You need the technology package with the upgraded audio if you do not have the mobile entertainment system. The DVD player in the center console (for DVD-Audio) will play DVD movies on the front LCD with the car in park and the parking brake set.
  • james27james27 Member Posts: 433
Unless you have the package with the rear displays, you can't do it. The player for the nav system may use a dvd, but it is for exclusive use of the maps and will not play a movie.

I leased an M35 Sport a few months ago and have noticed a rattle in the rear end on the passenger side only at low speeds (under 25 mph) on uneven surfaces such as railroad tracks. Sounds as if someone is rattling loose "change." Have cleaned out the trunk, jack and spare are secure, but noise is still there. Took it to the dealer, but they couldn't isolate the problem. Anybody have any idea what this might be or what I should have the dealer check at the next service appt? Thanks!

    jjbones,

Check out post 185 I think that might be your problem!
  • carnaughtcarnaught Member Posts: 3,582
As docnukem said, you need the tech. pkg. to play DVD's when in "park". The premium pkg. will also play DVD's with the rear facing ceiling mounted unit, when the car is in motion.

Thanks for all your help. I told my friend and he called his sales rep to let him know. His sales rep happens to be the asst. manager and swears that this can be done. He told my friend that a rep will be down from Japan tomorrow for a visit and he will ask him personally. Just so I am clear, if you dont have the rear entertainment pkg then you cant play DVD's even if you have the upgrade radio with navigation? Is that right?
  • docnukemdocnukem Member Posts: 485
No, you can play DVDs without the rear display, but you have to have the tech package (with the DVD-audio). The player in the center armrest is the same whether you have the rear display or the tech package.

With the tech/NAV, you actually have 3 optical devices--a CD player (in the dash), a DVD player (for audio or movies in the center console armrest), and a DVD-ROM reader for the NAV (in the glove box).

The only problem may be in controlling the DVD menus. It can be done with the dash controllers, but I have found it is much easier with the rear display and the remote controller that comes with it.

    Hi,

I've had my M45 for about a month now with about 700 miles on it. Just yesterday I started to heard this annoying rattle near the moonroof area and figured it was the interior headliner making that sound. I believe some people might have had the same problems when I glanced through the forum a few months ago. Can anyone tell me what experiences they've had fixing this problem?

    Thanks
  • ksterkster Member Posts: 13
This does not seem normal. I have an M45 and it idles around 1200-1400 rpm. Under automatic mode, I think my rpm is around 3000 when I'm traveling about 70 mph. But I've noticed the rpm is higher under the manual mode, probably to make more responsive.

When I enter air recirculate mode, the car insists on turning on the A/C. Of my three Infiniti's, this is the first that won't let me recirculate the air without turning on the A/C. This seems like a bug...

We live in an area where skunks get creamed regularly on the freeways. We always leave the recirculate on though this strech of road, but forcing the A/C on is a rediculous waste of gas.

If the "A/C" is on, but the temp is set to, say 76, does the compressor actually kick on?
  • docnukemdocnukem Member Posts: 485
Probably. The AC comes on to dehumidify all that exhaled air being recirculated. I believe that dehumidification is not a separate process from compression. Whether the air is cooled (when compressed) when the temp is set higher, I'm not sure. It would seem that it would have to be (in order to dehumidfy through condensation). However, maybe the compressed air is only cooled a little by ambient temperature before being decompressed (and thereby becoming cooler and drier).

This is not correct. The upgraded audio system in the technology package has a DVD drive in the center console. You can play DVD audio while driving and video on the front display when stopped with the parking brake engaged. The 6 disk CD changer in the dashboard will not play DVDs.

You may want to reconsider use of the recirculate mode. It is usually available only on air-conditioned vehicles to allow a faster cool down in hot weather. All automatic climate control system I have seen switch out of recirculate mode when the temperature in the car approaches the desired temperature. This is for health and safety reasons. Many people tend to use recirculate improperly on manual control systems. With passengers in the car and recirculate on, the cabin oxygen level will drop and the CO2 level will rise. Also, you are more likely to transmit air born virus infections via recirculate. In the event of an exhaust leak, undetectable CO can recirculate in the cabin and this can cause drowsiness or worse. This mode is also noisier. The fresh air intake reduces all of these issues.

As another poster mentioned, the A/C also serves to de-humidify the air making it more comfortable in high humidity areas and minimizing fog on the windows. Temperature is controlled by adding heat after the air is cooled and de-humidified by passing over the evaporator. With most automatic climate controls, even in cold weather, usually down to about 45 degrees or so, the A/C will still run for humidity control.

The air conditioner probably has only a 1 or 2 mpg effect on your mileage at most. Given that the M is not an economy car, the cost difference is not very significant. If you assume that you average 17 MPG with the A/C on and 18 with it off, and you then calculate the difference assuming you never turn the A/C on over 100,000 miles of ownership (unlikely), you'd save only 326 gallons of gas per 1 mpg difference or about $1000. In your case, turning it off only occasionally, your savings should be a lot less.

If it were me, I'd stop worrying about the MPG and enjoy the excellent climate control I paid for. If you continue to worry about fuel economy, you probably bought the wrong vehicle.

My wife's Verizon VX8100 has worked well in the M with one exception. She attempted to initiate a call using the M's Bluetooth directory just as another call was coming in. The phone kept ringing and wouldn't respond to the Bluetooth commands. The key pad on the phone also became inoperative. Even after the phone stopped ringing, it wouldn't power down or return to normal operation. The fix was to remove the battery to reset the phone. I suspect that this is a bug in the phone firmware and not a problem with the M.
  • davev1davev1 Member Posts: 14
Thanks for the Info. I am in the proses of buying an M
and the VX 8100 is not listed in Infinitis manual as a compatibal phone. Nice to know i will not have to change phones. :)
  • sjcbillsjcbill Member Posts: 82
You can't transfer the phonebook and you can't use the VX8100's voice dial through the M's Bluetooth but it otherwise works well. The Bluetooth does not automatically turn off like some other phones which means you don't have to keep turning it back on every time you get into the car. Of course this reduces battery life somewhat.

There is one setting on the phone that improves voice clarity. I don't have her phone here right now so I can't tell you exactly but, as I recall, you change the voice security setting from "enhanced" to "standard".

I have gotten the LG to pair ok and can make up the in car adder es book. But how do I ENTER THE AXXESS code FOR MY VOICE MAIL? :( Help
  • carnaughtcarnaught Member Posts: 3,582
Did you try calling your number (I assume it is your voicemail) and see if it asks for it? Mine in that instance (with Cingular) doesn't require the access code.
  • davev1davev1 Member Posts: 14
With Verizon you need to interuped the out going message
with # and a four digit to get to voice mail.
    Thanks for you post.

Hi , i have the same problem in my M35 . When it was cooling off it has this noise like something was breaking , i took it to Metro Infiniti in Monrovia and heat shields were ordered . Also , i have a noise on the rear suspension on bumps at the passenger side , some exhaust hooks were replaced and still is doing the noise. Also , and this one is the worse and disappointing one the engine knocks and pings at times but , mostly driving up hills . mm very upset with this problem and it cant be fix.. I had an 2004 Audi A4 3.0 front trak and i didnt have any problems , i traded for the M35 since July and in less than 4000 miles i have gone to the dealership 3 times . The engine noise is the one that really gets me upset . I miss my Audi !!

8 weeks was the "charm" for getting the parts in for my M35x. Now "only" 3-4 weeks left for the actual repair.
Word to the wise, if your M is damaged, insist the dealer order the parts at the highest priority (customer care). The national Infiniti association admitted that the local Infiniti didn't order the parts at the highest priority until a month into the order. Now I can look foward to paying the horrendous rental car bill just in time for the holiday bills.

I have had my wonderful M45 with some minor issues since April of 2005. I had to have my car towed for serious engine sounds (like a huge chain in my engine). At the dealer blue smoke came out when started there. Everyone is besides themselves as to why my engine probably blew. I will have complete details in a few days after all testing has been done. I was also told that this year they have a new engine but same 4.5L size as in previous editions in the new 2006 M45's. Surprising since Nissan/Infinities usually hold up.

Almost since I've had my M35 premium, I've noticed an annoying 'click' on occasion when turning the steering wheel (the click is both felt by holding the steering wheel and audibly heard.) I THINK I have pinpointed it to the top portion of the steering wheel (The airbag and top cover unit) and not deeper within the steering column. Sometimes I can reproduce the sound by pressing on that top portion.

Has anyone else had any funny steering wheel noises or clikcs when turning? Solutions? Thanks.
  • carnaughtcarnaught Member Posts: 3,582
Yes, I hear a sharp brief click only when the turn signal is engaged...same with you?
  • emergency_mdemergency_md Member Posts: 3
No, it doesn't really seem to be related to the turn signal.

I'll notice the click when just making normal turns. It seems like it is related to the top portion of the steering wheel. Sometimes it seems like I can reproduce the sound by pushing the top or bottom of that top unit to try and move it.

Does anyone know how the buttons on the steering wheel are connected to the electronics in the steering column? Is there some sort of connector? I would almost venture to say that a connector of some sort doesn't rotate smoothly.

I've taken it in for service at my local Infiniti dealership and was told that they couldn't identify the problem nor could they find a TSB related to it. No help, really.

Do you have the Tech and Journey packages? If you do, then you can do what I did: Buy a good quality stereo cable, i.e. Monster or something similar, that has 2-into-1 ends. You want to be able to plug one end into your iPod and the other two ends into the plugs at the rear of the center console (beside the power outlet). Then, go to DVD as your audio source in the car, but switch that to "AUX" by using the left directional button on the center dial. Then simply play the iPod and it plays perfectly through the sound system. This is much easier than I probably made it sound :-)

Infinity2, I just picked up my m35 on 11/26, and in about a week the dealer will be installing a rear deck lid, and XM radio. I will be able to share my experience shortly thereafter. I am dismayed by the "display" issues with their XM unit, and hoping collectively we can raise enough noise that Infinity will correct this. Seems we are handicapped in this (one) area for no reason!

Voice command is useless with my wife and three of her lady friends in the car jabbering away.

Perhaps the voice prompt should be changed to "Everyone please shut up for 5 seconds while I attempt to understand what the driver is going to say!"

    Hi,

I've a bit more than 2000 miles on my M45 non-sport. I've noticed extremely annoying buzzing sounds when going over highway seams or driving over those plastic lane markers (plastic reflectors). It seems to always come from a different location but mostly from the front passenger side. My suspicion is that it's coming from the seatbelt height adjuster on the right B pillar... Has anyone else noticed this?
  • docnukemdocnukem Member Posts: 485
Just try knocking the passenger shoulder belt. I have something similar which I think is the belt latch vibrating against the passenger seat. When I move it, the sounds goes away.
  • boz94086boz94086 Member Posts: 12
Thanks, I'll try to pay around with the passenger seat belt. When you talk about the latch, do you mean the slot in which you put the seat belt metal part? Or that metal part itself?
This noise is just pissing me off so bad right now...

Infinity, I have had the spoiler and XM added by the dealer. I am happy to report that, after 2 days of driving, both options have performed to expectations! No issues. Dealer did a good job on the installation, no noticeable damage to ext or int of the car, and with the new lower profile antennae, it is aesthetically pleasing to the eye! I still have the gripe about the display being cut short, but aside from that I am well satisfied! Only disappointment was I thought I was getting the "sharkfin" antennae that is color-matched to the exterior, but discovered that is a factory installed component (I think associated with Nav system?). Oh well!

I hope your experience is as good should you choose to do aftermarket installs with your local dealer. Best of luck!

I have diligently read my manual cover to cover to understand how the ignition button works. I am definitely getting used to keyless! However, I have one misgiving and hope it is (or can be) addressed. Remember in the good 'ol days when we used keys? Remember taking that hot girlfriend out, and at the end of the evening parking somewhere private (or maybe not so), turning off the engine but leaving the music and other accessories on? The mood was set -- bring back some memories? To do that only took one key turn to the left, generally.

Fast forward to 2005 -- how is the same accomplished in our lovely M35/M45s? I clearly see the design supports OFF-->ACC-->ON, but can we go from ON-->ACC without having to go to OFF first? I find it really hard to believe the engineers did not design that sequence in the ignition system. Can someone please tell me it ain't so? If I have to cut the car completely off to get back to the music, the girl may be lost.....

    Hey Sickntired,

How does your bluetooth work? In my car, the phones and car link up but the quality of sound both outgoing and incoming is terrible. I called infinity and the dealer and they are useless. Any suggestions? Also, who installed your satellite radio?

  • sickntiredsickntired Member Posts: 13
    Infinity2,

Regarding bluetooth, I am using a T-Mobile Razr. Setup was easy, and I was able to use BT to wirelessly xfer phone number entries to the car phone book based on the process outlined in an earlier post.

How does it perform? I have had persons say I sound like "i'm in a tunnel", but they get used to listening more closely during conversation. Incoming call quality is fine for me (or maybe I'm getting less sensitive in my older age!). Not sure Infinity/dealer can do anything about this -- I expect is working as designed, and there are too many variables at play (phone, signal strength, battery level of phone, BT transmitter, etc) to be bothered with from their perspective. Don't know if I have a suggestion here....other than ensure phone has as full a charge as possible!

BTW, my XM and spoiler were installed by local dealer in Atlanta area....

If you phone has a "voice privacy" setting change it from enhanced to standard. That improves the sound quality on many Bluetooth phones.
  • m454mem454me Member Posts: 2
R u really saying that you find it tiresome to push the button once to turn the car off and then have to push it a second time to put it on ACC? If this takes too much energy, who are you going ot get to take care of that "hot girlfriend" for you?
Just messin' with you. Anyway, I love my M45. The only issues I have with it is the poor sound quality of the voice recognition and the tracton control. I haven't seen what it will do for me in the snow yet, but you really have to finesse your launch to keep the engine from bogging down from a full throttle start. I would like to see a switch or button to disable it.
  • boz94086boz94086 Member Posts: 12
What do you mean by "poor sound quality of voice recognition"?
I think I might have the same comment as you on this one!
  • m454mem454me Member Posts: 2
Actually, I am really pleased with my cooling seats. I can tell almost imediately if it is on even the lowest setting. On the high setting, I usually have to turn it down because it is too cold, especially if i am wearing shorts. If your seatrs are not really cooling, I think you should definitely take it to the dealer.

I have had my M35X since June of 2005. I have to say, its the best, car I have ever owned. Drives great, fast and full of usable technology.

Last week, on a dry cool day, the VDC and Slip light lit up on the dash. I pulled off the parkway and shut the car down and restarted it. Both lights went out. I started driving again to see if it would light up again. In about 3 miles both lights came on together. I called the dealer and they told me to come in that day. I got a loaner and followed up the next day. The sensor they need (located in the stearing column) senses slipping and tells the car what to do as far a anti lock brakes and VDC are concerned.

The car has been at the dealer for 9 days b/c they cannot locate the part. The part will not be in the country until December 25th. Then a few days to get unloaded off the boat and to my dealer. I called the 800 number to complain and request expedited parts deliver via fed ex or UPS. Nothing, those people all tell me you must deal with dealer. I asked my dealer to put me in touch with the regional infinity manager. Nothing yet.

Dealer has been good, I have a loaner (2005 FX35), but I have become adicted to the creature comforts of my M. The one I miss the most is the bluetooth and the second in the keyless entry/ignigtion. I hate fumbling through my pockets for keys.

I have read this forum since before I was an owner. I remember other complaining about parts availability on the new M model. I hope this is not an ongoing issue with the car.

On a side note, I am in NY and we had our first snow of the season today. I was waiting to see how the M35X would handle with the stock Good Year tires and the all wheel drive. Can anyone out there share their experiences in the snow.

    Thanks

where did you find this service bulletin?

I live in New England and have a M35X. After talking to several people I decided to get snow tires with allow wheels for the winter. We have had two snow storms to date and the car handles magnificently.

I was able to get a great package from one of the national tire chains. I decided to get 17" wheels as they would provide better traction. I think the car has a more comfortable ride with the 17" wheels. Despite the up front initial cost, the snow and wheel combo is a great investment and it allows you to protect the expensive factory rims from scratches and pothole damage. You also save on the tread wear on the factory tires which are much more expensive than snows. You can get a wheel / snow tire combo for less than $1100.
