You can dial while driving, even at 110 mph. It is called the "Dial by Number" feature. Simply hit the voice command button on the steering wheel, when prompted say "Dial by Number" and follow the instructions. You can dial hands free while driving.

So, I'm just guessing here; but, dialing someone while doing 110 mph would be to like what,..........say "Goodby"?

For those of you with the Ruby Red and Cashmere interior how long from the time the order was placed until you drove it off the lot? I have been waiting 3.5 months. A shipment is due this weekend to the port of Jacksonville,I'm being told it may be on this allotment. I certainly hope so!
  • robynlrobynl Member Posts: 38
I informed my dealership (Lexington, KY) around the first or second week of July that I wanted a Ruby/Cashmere UL. They called my back the next day and said that somehow their regional manager had managed to "snag one" somewhere, somehow. They did also know that I was willing to do business with Louisville and Cincinatti too and that I would go with whoever could get the car the quickest. (They all were offering same discount of only $1000.) I just picked it up last Thursday, August 24th so that's about 5-6 weeks. I am, needless to say, thrilled with it and it was well worth the wait. Many comments on the color combination!!
Hope yours is on this next allotment.

I got my Ruby Red/Cashmier about 2 weeks after I started looking for one. My local Lexus dealers said there weren't any in the whole state of Ca and that it would be 2 or 3 months, but a dealer in San Diego which is only about 80 miles away had one on the lot with no hold on it. Don't trust what the computer says or what one dealer says, call or email all of the dealers within a distance you are willing to travel to.

Hello everyone, I just picked up my ES this evening, Crystal white / Cashmere, I am a happy camper now, will post a few pictures tomorrow, cheers!

You must work for GM. This is a 2007 ES350 morum, not 2006. There is no hesitation! All other aoto makers should be concerned about Lexus.
  • scoti1scoti1 Member Posts: 676
You think I work for GM because I thought someone was talking about a 2006 ES350? You lost me on that one bud.

I would say the jury is still out on the 2007. If it is resolved, I would like to know what they did to fix it and whether the remedy can be retrofitted to earlier models exhibiting the problem.

By the way, what is a "morum"?
  • petlpetl Member Posts: 610
I posted a couple times concerning this perceived issue. I have not read anywhere where there is a hesitation problem with the new ES. There have been a couple posters complaining about the transmission "searching" during deceleration. That problem is common with all 6 speed transmissions from all manufacturers.

Looks like a one person jury looking for something that doesn't exist. It's your choice, if you believe there is a problem, move on to another vehicle. If your intentions are to actually buy one. Good luck.

I noticed that the Body Side Door Molding is now available on the ES 350 for $199. I tried to purchase the Molding when we bought our ES but it was not available at that time. Today, I called Arrowhead Lexus, Peoria Arizona, and was told to have it installed would now cost $400. I don't understand why Arrowhead now wants twice as much money.

Does anyone know where I can purchase the molding and have it installed cheaper than $400? Since the molding is apparently only glued on it doesn't seem like it would be a job that would take very long.
  • alien2alien2 Member Posts: 33
I have a 2007 350, an early one. When in full automatic, there is a hesitation (1/2 to 1 second) between a fully depressed gas pedal and the back in your seat exceleration you expect to feel. However, if you use the "manual" feature, vice leaving it in auto, the hesitation goes away. Has anyone experienced this? Alien.
  • luvblacluvblac Member Posts: 4
Read post #2039 about body side moldings. They're very simple to install if you read the directions carefully. Most dealers will do it for 50 to 80 dollars as it takes about an hour.
  • hartwlmhartwlm Member Posts: 4
I called our Lexus dealership in Peoria (parts dept) and they said could be ordered for $133+tax and they would charge $112 to install. My husband or his buddy that does car body repair work will end up putting them on... you should try your parts dept if you haven't already
  • psychdocpsychdoc Member Posts: 147
If the car was on this shipment they would already know. The dealership would have the VIN number and the car would already have be allocated for you.

If you haven't heard these things and that shipment is already on its way, you're not getting your car off that ship.

    Sorry, maybe the next one.

Hello everyone, I just posted some photos of my ES, let me know what you think. Has anyone thought about aftermarket wheels, I saw a GS430 parked at the dealership with what appeared to be 19 inch rims on it. The issue with the tire sensors would cause me to hesitate.
  • vluuvluu Member Posts: 100
Nice ride.... congrats! If I get the Premium Plus, I might upgrade to the 10 spoke like the ones on the UL package.
  • ryguy1ryguy1 Member Posts: 10
    Hi normal,
I am curious to see the photos, but I don't see a link where they can be viewed?

Will post some photos in a few days, I've upgraded to the E17 Sport wheels (only because I got a great deal on e-bay). Wasn't sure how I would like it but turned out great.

Has anyone seen the ES350 with spoiler? I'm considering it but not sure how it would look. Any opinions?
  • wireguy1wireguy1 Member Posts: 7
Here is a photo of the spoiler. It is not very large but adds a nice style to the rear end.

Did you put on your new wheels yet? If so, how about a photo?

Thanks for photos! The spoiler adds a real nice touch. Mine's Blue Onyx Pearl with cashmere leather interior. I do like the ruby red but my previous car(Acura TL) was red and I didn't want another red. Will definitely post some photos later -- weather is real gloomy here in NYC this week-end. Have a great holiday week-end everyone!!

Your ruby with grey interior looks fantastic. I am waiting on mine. Should come in sometime in September. I am getting the same color combination. The inside doesn't look that grey. Also, what kind of wheels did you get? Those aren't the standard Lexus wheels are they? Very sharp car, I can't wait for mine.
  • dwlunddwlund Member Posts: 1
Ordered my Ruby/Grey UL on July 5 - told me 3-4 months. Ugh! Saw a pic of wireguy's Ruby/Grey with the sport wheels. WOW! Those wheels sure dress up the car. Just curious - - where did you find yours on e-bay? and how much did you have to pay? I think they cost around $2000 if you order through Lexus. Anxious to see your pics. Good luck with Ruby!

I think it is amazing that in august of this year, Lexus sold 7,973 Es 350s in the United States. And less, actually much less of those buyers of this awesome vehicle are members of this Forum. We need to attrack more members. That would tell us many more things we need to know. For instance: are people really having Tranny problems or any other kinds of problems. Also, are people getting better deals on the vehicle than we did a few months ago. I would like to here from more people.

I went to my Lexus Dealers website (Prestige Lexus of Ramsey New Jersey)( I live in New York but their deal was too good to pass up) I took a little train ride to pick up the car. Looking at the inventory which you can check on the site I saw something hard to believe, two new colors "Obsidian" & "Starfire" are listed in stock.Anybody know anything about this?
  • normalnormal Member Posts: 19
Thanks for the compliment, I recommend the premium plus unless you go for the UL, either way, you are going to really like it.
  • lexusguy3lexusguy3 Member Posts: 12
I have a fairly early version of the car and love most of it BUT.. The transmission seems to hesitate going from 2nd to 3rd gear. I brought to the dealer and he could not duplicate. I tried again and it happens when car is in the first 1-5 miles out of the driveway. Maybe the transmission fluid needs time to heat up. Anybody have a good idea how to get this fixed? I don't think transmissions have adjustments.
  • johngreisjohngreis Member Posts: 70
I have this "problem" on my 04RX, had it on my 2000RX and also have it on my '99 corolla. I believe this is built in and has something to do with pollution.

It requires you to race a cold engine which I hate to do.
  • moeharrimoeharri Member Posts: 108
Almost ALL new vehicles do this, and it is on purpose. It is done so that the engine gets up to temperature quicker and thus is more protected (by oil) and also probably helps pollution by allowing the engine to operate at its peak more quickly.
  • pcusatopcusato Member Posts: 1
I recently purchased a 350 UL Blue Onyx Pearl w/grey interior, via special order. I have not noticed any issues with the transmission. All shifts have been smooth.

Have read on posts of people complaining about the tranny.
However, the people I have talked to who own a 350 have had no such issue.

I will update as more miles are put on the car.

Pro's: The increased HP is welcome and it does
handle better than my '02 ES.

Con's: The center console is a little narrow

Agree - the center console is pathetic!

Dealer in PA told me that the colors are the same / new names. Black = Obsidian Black Amethyst = Dark Blue Onyx

Going to recheck the colors as the Black Amethyst appeared to be blacker / darker than Dark Blue Onyx.

Have a Dark Blue Onyx / Cashmere Ultimate on order and may want to change colors. Even Ruby Red is renamed.

I have a 2007 ES-350 Ultra. This morning on the way to work in the rain, the driver's side windshield wiper failed. It can be moved with no resistance in all directions. It chipped the paint on the hood and jammed the passenger side wiper. I hope it is not a design flaw (as with the VR problem) with the 'winterize' feature allowing you to manually set the wipers in two different 'at rest' positions. Has anyone else experienced this condition? Thanks, alien.

    Where are the pictures?
  • garsarnogarsarno Member Posts: 72
Reviewed colors again at dealership - following the IS350 color choices:

Starfire Pearl = old Crystal White

    Obsidian = Black Onyx

Black Saphire = Blue Onyx Pearl

Breakwater Blue not available on ES350 as yet.
  • garsarnogarsarno Member Posts: 72
Can you share pictures of your Blue Onyx ES350? Have Ultra on order with Cashmere interior. Saw only one in PA.
  • zekeman1zekeman1 Member Posts: 422
So what are we talking about here, new colors for which car, the IS or ES?? Since this is the ES forum, I would assume color changes for the ES, no?
  • garsarnogarsarno Member Posts: 72
Color name changes for the ES350, more in line with the color names from the IS.
  • ryguy1ryguy1 Member Posts: 10
garsano, here's a couple photos, which happen to be not too great, but I will post some updated photos in a few days. You won't be disappointed with the color, it's quite sharp looking.I have since upgraded my wheels to the E17 Sport wheels which added a nice touch. I also bought the spoiler and body side moldings which I haven't installed yet. So hopefully I will be posting updated photos in the near future. I didn't think I would want that color , but after test-driving the vehicle at dealer in late July, I went out to their lot with new vehicles and focused on colors. The blue onyx with cahmere really caught my eyes. I also liked the ruby red,but didn't want another red as my previous car was. I also liked the smoky granite. Here's the link to my album http://www.carspace.com/ryguy1/Albums/original/
  • cablondebluecablondeblue Member Posts: 72
Wow, that looks soooo good. I never saw a Blue Onyx in person before I decided on my Crystal White UL. I probably would have fell in love with it, like I did the Black. Since I don't have the time or patience with keeping dark colors clean, I went with white, which I also love. Thanks for posting the pics. At least I can admire dark from a far.

    ******

BTW, "lookinginscv" did you ever buy an ES? I haven't heard from you in the forum lately but noticed you are still checking out the colors quite often on the carspace site. ;)
  • hakpoonhakpoon Member Posts: 15
It happened once with my 2002 ES300. In my case, the screw holding the wiper arm is loosened. Once you tightened the screw.. everything went back to normal. However, that was certainly not a pleasant experience as two wipers jammed with each other under heavy rain and I barely saw anything in the highway. I had to pull off the shoulder by emergency.

If your ES350 is slipping gears, check to see if the VSC light on your dash is illuminated or ask the service tech if he/she had to clear the fault. You should ask your service departmet/technician to call Lexus USA and open a service ticket and request Engineering assistance. The local tech cannot fix the problem.

Lexus engineers have a set of paramaters for the local service tech to perform to check the transmission. The car must be driven over 20 miles, by the technician, before the tests can even be performed. If the car fails the test, Lexus USA will buy back the vehicle or you can wait forever for a new transmission (there are none to be had).
  • moeharrimoeharri Member Posts: 108
His transmission isn't slipping gears, it is HOLDING gears in order to get up to optimal operating temperatures as soon as possible. This is as intended and happens in almost all new cars. Some people may just not notice this as often or perhaps live in super warm climates where the oil never really cools down much.

    cablondeblue....

Yep, still looking at colors. Went to the dealer you used but they have nothing in stock. They are supposed to let me know in a few weeks. I'm ready to go for white, too. I've heard it's impossible to get red. He had the silver in stock but it didn't do anything for me. So, I'm in a wait and see mode.

    Thanks for asking.

In regards to the wheels, they are an option that you can find on the back pages of the brochure. They were dealer installed.

Good luck on your ruby with grey interior. You are going to love it.

The term "slipping gears" is a misnomer on my part. The faulty transmission issue usually only occurs after the vehicle transmission fluid is heated to its normal operating temperature. That is the reason the engineers at Lexus USA have the local service tech drive the car at highways speeds for 20 miles before performing a series of tests involving different speeds and RPMs. The tech is to record the actions of the transmission and to see if the "VSC" light illuminates. The tech reports the findings to the engineers and they decide whether the transmission is faulty.

The bottom line: If the "VSC" light illuminates or you suspect the transmission is not performing correctly when shifting gears between 1st and 2nd or 2nd and 3rd, take it and have it inspected and insist that the technician open a service ticket with Lexus USA, whether they can duplicate the problem or not.

Don't be a "shade tree" mechanic and try and explain why the transmission is not working to your satisfaction, regardless of the operating temperature, your climate or your location. You paid damn good money for the vehicle, you don't like the way the transmission shifts, so, let Lexus tell you why the transmission doesn't operate to your satisfaction.

I know from experience, because my first ES350 was bought back by Lexus USA. I took my ES350 to be inspected because it was not shifting gears properly. The technician did not have a clue what was wrong with the transmission and opened the service ticket with Lexus USA who determined, through testing, that the transmission was faulty.

If your car is under warranty and you don't take your car to get it checked, regardless of what problem you are experiencing or you don't tell the service department that you think something is wrong with your vehicle, they are not going to check that specific problem. They are not going to ask you: "Hey, is your transmission shifting OK?"

This same practice was used when the ES330 vehicles were experiencing transmission shifting problems. Three firmware updates were released (to date), after introduction of the vehicle, to correct transmission shifting problems. If you did not complain about rough shifting of the transmission when you had your car serviced or some other problem was repaired, they did not update the vehicle's firmware to correct transmission shifting problems because you didn't tell them you had any.

Every time you take your vehicle in for normal servicing, always use a service manager that you like and that you trust. Aways make it a practice to ask your service manager if there have been any software or firmware releases, or any problems noted for your particular vehicle model, since the last time you had it serviced. It's your vehicle, your money and your warranty. While under warranty, they are obligated to check every problem with the vehicle that you tell them you are experiencing, no matter how minor it may seem to you or anyone else.

Thanks for the pictures. At my Wilkes Barre, PA dealership, they had one Blue Onyx / Cashmere but it lasted 1/2 week. It was gone....

Dealer anticipates four weeks for my Ultra Onyx Blue / Cashmere but warned my that it was probably going to be Black Sapphire - just a name change for same color. Black is now Obsidian. Looking at exchanging the 17" Graphite wheels for chrome versions of same wheel.

Well, I can guarantee you that every new car I've driven in the last 6 years (4 of them from 3 different companies) has had this "hesitation" after the car has been started. He even indicated that this only happens for about 1-5 miles, which indicates exactly what I'm talking about. I'm not saying it's not slightly annoying, because it is; I'm saying that another car will most likely do the same thing.

If this explanation isn't sufficient, go try another car around the same time of day (morning perhaps?) that you normally experience this "issue" and I promise you'll see the same thing in every other ES350 as well as lot of other makes/models. I experience this every morning and to a much lesser extent at the end of the work day (since it is about 20-30 degrees warmer). If people aren't noticing this, it's either due to fairly warm weather or just not paying super close attention like other people happen to do.

Of course if there is a VSC or Check Engine light on, there is probably a problem. If there is no light on and the tranmission is holding gears for 1-5 miles, you can ask them to fix this issue, but they won't because it is protecting the transmission and engine.

Agreed. My 03 Camry does the same thing for the first 1 to 1.5 miles. I asked the service technician and was told it was a normal characteristic of the car and has something to do with protecting the drivetrain and achieving SULEV rating.

When it comes to issues or concerns about the performance or warranty of our ES350 vehicles, let's not turn the issues against ourselves. Collectively, we have this forum to voice our complaints or praises of the ES350.

We have a broad body of knowledge amongst the members of the forum and can have a significant impact upon the future of our ES350s. Lexus USA and Lexus Canada will do their utmost to please Lexus owners. Collectively, we can bring about change in the way Lexus interacts to solve our issues.

Unfortunately, when you have a perceived problem with your vehicle or bring your ES350 into the service department of your Lexus Dealer, it's still an "us against them" issue. Unless you're "armed" with knowledge that you have gleaned from this forum and other sources, you may not be aware of potential problems or solutions for your vehicle.

If I had not read about someone posting that they noticed a "VSC" light illuminate on their dash, I would still be waiting on a transmission for my old ES350, from my dealer, instead of Lexus USA buying back my old vehicle and offering me a new vehicle.

I was also able to upgrade the options and change the color or I could have selected an entirely different vehicle or walked away from deal with my cash. My old ES350 has been at the dealership for two months, waiting on a new transmission. Pity the poor Toyota Camry owner with a faulty 6-speed automatic transmission. That owner is still waiting on a transmission and was not offered a "buy back".

Cars manufactured in Japan are under strict quality control from not only the manufacturer but also the government. Just like the quality of wine and beer produced in Germany is controlled by the government, Japan has the same sort of authority over car manufacturers. Recently, a well-known manufacturer, that is near and dear to all of us, was fined for not keeping consumers abreast of potential problems with their purchased vehicles. It's a "Catch-22" for the manufacturer. If they notify us of potential problems, to satisfy the Japanese government, they risk the close scrutiny of the U. S. government.

Why are you so cold and defensive in your response to this issue?

The problem has been reported in the Lexus ES for several years. Doesn’t make sense that a potential buyer would want to make sure the problem is corrected before moving forward.... why so defensive?
