GAP insurance is automatic; there is an acquisition fee you'll get charged.

Negotiate your selling price just like you would if you purchase.

In Maryland, sales tax is assessed against the entire selling price. You can choose to pay that amount up front, or (our recommendation) add the tax amount to the negotiated selling price.

We suggest this because, if the car is stolen or totaled, you won't get a refund of the sales tax you pre-paid.

How should I handle a dealer saying they'll beat another dealers price? Should I forward the other dealer's price or just insist they provide their lowest price?

Most of those claims are just BS.

Ask them for their best price. Otherwise, they beat the other price by $50. If they don't know that price, maybe you save $500-$1000.

Not sure if this is the right place for this question. But I was told it would take 3 months to get the exact car I want but also heard you can order from the port of call in LA for a quicker turn around time. Any insight on whether this is true or not?

I doubt you can order from the port, but the dealer has access to cars coming in, that aren't already spoken for.

Find a dealer that's willing to find the car you want.

just about through my lease negotiation but have one sticking point that I'm failing to understand. Dealer has shown me their lease info printout over e-mail. Gives the breakdown of selling price, fees, rebates, etc.

One line item is $595 "Acq Fee (Capped)" This is a standard bank/acquisition fee.
Another line item is $595 Cash Cap Reduction. This seems like a credit for the above.

The adjusted Cap cost, which includes the initial cap cost, plus the two $595 lines that zero out, just equals out to the initial cap cost. This is the number we base the lease off of, yes?

However, in the Amount due at start, that same $595 appears again.

Would I be correct to assume I'm being charged twice for that, or at the very least, the dealer finding a way to get a free $595 by throwing it in, non-descript, as part of the signing payment I leave them?

It's convoluted, but you are paying the $595 upfront. They show it added to the CAP, then as a CAP reduction, because it's an item that is subject to sales tax.

Depends on the state.

Here in CO, registration is handled at the county level. Dealer sends paperwork to the county showing I bought / leased a car, the county sends me a postcard reminder, then I head to the local office to pay and get my plates.

In any case, pay the DMV costs up front, as they are non-taxable.

Assuming FWD, 00095 and 60%

Can't make them do something they don't want to do ... the concern is (and rightly so), that you'll shop their number to other dealers.

Expand your search area ... only takes one dealer to make a deal.
