I'm afraid not entirely. My '00, built the last week of November '99, has the vibration problem. As I have posted before, 3 out of 5 trucks I test drove had the vibration. All were 2wd, reg cab, short bed, auto. Various wheel, tire, rear end, etc. This problem has still not been figured out by the boys in engineering. Either that or its too expensive to fix easily, i.e. the truck will have to be re-engineered from the ground up to fix it.

    it's the V-6?

    Was it a 6?

Well, my 2000 Sierra Ext Cab 4dr 4x4 SLT is scheduled to be produced for the week of March 5th, and hopefully arrive around the first of april. Traded in my 99 3dr with 20k miles for it. Ordered the base tires this time. What does anyone know about changing tire sizes on them. I will go to either 265s or 285s from the 245s the dealer thought the computer could be reprogrammed for the 265s but not the later, any comments. I sure hope that GM extends the customer loyalty or puts on a different rebate on the trucks. After going the the National Farm Machinery show in Louisville, KY this past weekend I may have to trade off this one on a new HD next year, they had the new 300 HP 520 ft-lbs diesel with the 5spd Allison automatic tranney. It would be real nice in a full crew/ shortbed. I have seen pictures of it and it looks real nice.

    Best of luck,

    Huntman

For vibration discussion jump over to the 2000 Silverado Vibration topic. Or the 1999 although it isn't very active, most have moved to the 2000 thread.

Thanks, but I knew the cost of the fourth door. What I really want to know, is those who ordered the three door and are getting the 4th door (like me)..is your dealer/Chevy charging you for the extra door, since your contract (if it's like mine) on the back, says they won't raise the price?

I just replaced my GTS Omni Guard with the dealer's MPC or MPA bug guard at $59.99 plus tax. The new guard is thicker and has noticeable less give against the wind than the GTS, it is also deeper and extends further down to protect the fenders. It comes with tons of strategically placed rubber bumpers to protect the paint (for extra protection it also comes with clear tape that can be placed against the paint under the rubber bumpers). It attaches to the existing holes on the truck within minutes. The Omni Guard works great but does not last. The adhesive circles stayed glued on the truck but kept coming loose at bug guard, the Velcro glue and others that I tried did not bond great with the bug guard material. There were not enough disks to keep the guard from flapping against the hood at some places. The bug guard also developed cracks at the two points of attachments with screws.

Who makes a high quality plastic bed rail protector that matches the tailgate version? And if you have them on your truck, how do like them. I remember reading that Chevrolet makes a set, is this true?

    Thanks, Evan

i am pretty sure gm does sell a set for about $130 list price. I don't have any yet, but i have been looking at some made by a company named Wade. supposed to fit really good. Hope this helps

There was an addendum in my owners manual on how to turn off the Electrochromatic mirror. It says to hold the temp button for 15 sec until the green light goes off. I didn't time mine, but it is at least 15sec. With engine on, just hold that button till the green light goes off. Same to turn it on again.

Has anyone added tow hooks to the front of a 2000 2wd Silverado? My 2000 2wd LT has the fog lamps and holes where the tow hooks would be on a 4wd. I am considering adding the hooks if they will fit. When I went to the dealership the parts dept. couldn't find an order number or what is required to install them. Looks like the hooks simply slip into the frame and are secured using two bolts.

I am interested in getting a set of flush mounted retractable tie downs that insert in the stake pockets on my 2000 Sierra. Does anyone here have an opinion about them?

A good Bug guard should be stiff enough so that is does not require the pads on the hood itself. Only part that should touch is where it mounts under the hood.

The GM caps that come on a stepside look nice and fit great. Haven't seen a fleetside with GM ones yet?

And an air dam for an LT that has both spots for fog lights AND tow hooks is available. It comes on 4WD models.

    Good Luck

Don't worry about vibration on the 2500, the 3/4 seems to not have had that trouble.

The 6.0 is great, mostly. It is smooth and strong and all the towing comments I read are positive. I carry a full size slide-in camper and have no trouble maintaining freeway speeds up even steep hills. A vast improvement over my previous trucks. You should choose the 4.10 rear end for heavy towing.

On the down side, it idles a little rough and gets only okay mileage. The idle isn't terrible, just not what you would expect from a new design. The mileage runs about 10-15 mpg with 13 a reasonable combined number. This doesn't sound so hot but remember the Ford and Dodge big engine mileage is worse. There is a topic devoted to 6.0 mileage, read back quite a while to get a good feel.

Otherwise the 2500 is really nice. The tranny is great and tow/haul is actually functional and helpful. It's much better than a simple OD lockout.

Do you have a File # w/GM Customer Assistance regarding the vibration problem on your truck?, have you kept copies of all service tickets for requested repairs/complaints about vibe problem? Have you spoken with the Owner of dealership regarding service depts. lack of intelligence or ability to resolve? If yes then get a complaint form from NYS Attorney Generals office & file under Lemon Law. The forms can be had over the internet by going to NYS government web page or look up in your phone book for the local AG's office to file with.

It sounds like this is the route your gonna have to take with this unresponsive dealership. You have 18 months or 18000 miles to file for under NYS Lemon Law.

    Been there, done that!

I am searchiing for a good set-up that includes a tonneau and in-bed tool box that allows the flexability to haul two dirt bikes.
The Access soft cover or Rugged Aero cover appear to fit the requirements of easy removal.
I have seen the "saddle" type toolboxes that go along the side of the bed and ride over the wheel hump. Cabela's has a single Contico and a SteelHorse that goes in front and behind the well. I have recently spotted one that goes below the back window but not the full length. It tapers off on the outboard edges, kinda like a "vee" shape. It appears this would allow a bike wheel on either side still.
Anyone have info on this type of box or suggestions? Thanks, scott.

I just ordered a set of gloss black fender flares for my 99 4x4 ext.cab from my dealer. For some reason they gave me different part numbers (12497244 and 12497245)than the chevy website says. they are charging me $154 per set of 2.
Has anyone installed these yet on their truck? I would like to know how they attach and is there any drilling involved. thanks.

I installed the factory flares on my 99 4x4 in April. No drilling needed. They mount into existing holes and come with all fasteners needed.

Mine came poorly packed and required repaint prior to use.

I paid $275 for 4, and the dealer said that was at cost because I bought them at the same time as the truck.

Ok, so I had a TPW of 14FEB00. I called on Friday and again today. The customer service reps don't have a clue. It should have been built...maybe not. The said they had to wait for the production department to update the system. Does this sound right? How about you guys that have your trucks. Did you keep close tabs on when the vehicle was actually complete? How soon after the TPW did you find out? I'm kinda PO'd at Chevrolet right now....
  • dmr3dmr3 Member Posts: 119
I too had a TPW of 2/14..and mine was built on the 16th and shipped. I called every few days.

Stupid AOL. Logged me off due to inactivity. Ha! As I was typing before my connection was rudely dropped: I've never had any vibration problems from my truck. 99 Z71, Ext cab, 5.3, 4.10, autotrac, 265's, etc... Got the LS model, so I got the sliding rear window. It leaked at the top of the cab. Dealer replaced the whole window unit. Radio reception was poor. Dealer replaced the antenna cable and mount. Both problems were resolved, 1 trip. That's it. 30k+ for a truck with two "issues". Stop the presses! I've bought a few new cars, all had issues when new. I have worn out several company cars, vans, all had some sort of inital defect when I picked them up at the dealer. So what. That's a result of mass production. The Silverado is the best looking, best put together truck available today. I know several people that own 99's or 00's. They love their trucks. I've had the most major issue (the window, not the radio, ha ha). Most are like me, owned other vehicles/makes/models and all rank the initial build quality at least at par, mostly above, with their previous ownership experiences. Complainers are the super minority of the group. But the most vocal. If you've a problem, get it fixed. If your dealer's a hack, go somewhere else. If it can't be fixed, lemmon law it.

Too much cold medication for me. Have medicine head effect going. Gotta go.

Roger, I checked out Drawtite controls -- 2 models, your 5500 and the 5100 which is slide control and no digital readout. Is the thumb wheel adjustment a better way to go? I have a single axle 19 foot 5th, so capacity is much less than yours.

Has anyone used the camper mirrors that slide over the factory mirrors for towing? I deliberately did not order the factory camper mirrors because most of the time I'm driving without 5th wheel and I liked the regular GM mirror.
    Thanks for any input, Al

Thanks for the info on the Wade and Chevrolet bed rail caps. I found the Wade version at Performance Products ($58.00) and I am going to check out the Chevrolet ones at the dealer. I would imagine that the ones on the Stepside is very similar in appearance to the Styleside ones. The wade caps use double stick tape, does anyone know how the Chevrolet ones attach? $130 sounds a little steep, but maybe I can get a deal due to purchasing my truck from them.

DOnt get the wade at rhino linings they are $85 there performance products are much cheaper than any other place ive seen em at.

About 20-25 days after TPW to delivery, depends on distance. All info was sporadic and unexact after that. Ask for a VIN number, that should make you feel better!

I purchased a small toolbox from Sears that goes in the back of my Silverado. It's about 15" deep and 32" long. I mounted it on a board that allows me to put plywood underneath it - however, I think you could mount it to the bed or bedliner or carry it loose. There should be room on either side of the toolbox to put the wheel of a dirt bike. The toolbox does lock.

I believe the box is the Hopper chest by Delta. You can see a picture of it at http://www.pickuptruckaccessories.com/deltapg13.shtml. You should be able to order it from this site if you can't find it locally.

liked your post. That's about as clear as you can make it, regarding all the nagging problems we face with new and used vehicles. I just got my 2k 1500LS recently(450mi) and and loving it. Gotta get used to parking it, but so far - so good. Rides like a dream.

I also had a TPW with the Feb 14th date, I was told it was built on the Feb 16th, not sure about
ship date. I am located in Houston, where are you
guys from? Also, do you know the location of the
factory where yours where produced? My dealer did
say it was about 10 days for delivery after build
    date, will see!!

.....dealers tell you delivery is about 10 days after build date, it's been 2 weeks today from build date & still no word on delivery yet! The call is into the dealer to find out where it's at.
I just got notified by dealer I bought cap from that it's in and ready to install. I told him to wave his magic wand & make my truck appear so he can mount the cap.
Initially I was told 50 days order to delivery for my truck, that was December 17th, guess what? seeing is believing!!!!!!! & I haven't seen it yet. There are no more finger nails left to chew on!

My '99 with 5.3 seems to have a fan roar that is at most speeds. Is this normal? Dealer says no problem, but my '88 never had this problem. Comments?
  • rshornsbyrshornsby Member Posts: 200
The Drawtite 5100 unit would work just fine. My son-in-law has that unit, and he says no problem. He tows a tandem axle, 21' Road Ranger. My 5th wheel is in the 8,500# bracket, 26' with slide out, so I have the 5500. It is really a matter of preference, I just like the LED readout. Wish you luck....

Is that the radiator fan or your in-cab blower?
    - If the recirculator is on then you will hear much more noise from the blower, and that is normal.
    - If it's the radiator fan, make the dealer fix it. With the windows down and at idle, you shouldn't even be able to hear it.

    - GRACZ - if you get it within 3 weeks, consider yourself lucky. Good luck anyway.

I just ordered my truck today & will receive it in about a month! The dealership that I finally selected had a large allocation of the model I wanted. They just received conformation yesterday that the four door extended cabs they ordered for stock are being shipped this week! All I had to do is choose the one that had the options I wanted!

The only thing that I didn't get on the truck was the color that I wanted! I didn't know that the LT is not available in a two-tone? Who decided this??? I wanted the Dark grey & Pewter color combo. I selected the Pewter with graphite leather seats!

I'm getting the off road pkg, trailer tow pkg, locking rear axle with 3.73 & P265 WOL tires.

    I can hardly wait!

    gracz,
I'm also located in Houston. What dealer did you buy from? I went through Mac Haik Chevy, and he still hasn't received an allocation for my 3/4 ton.

    2000ryan,
saw in your post #281 that you received an order # within about 5 weeks of placing your order. As I noted to gracz above, my dealer says he can't get any allocations for 3/4 tons (says he hasn't had one for almost 3 months). I told him about this Edmunds forum, and he was stunned when I told him about you and DMR3 getting order numbers on 2500's so quickly after placing your orders.

He asked if I could find out which dealers are getting 3/4 ton allocations, so he can complain to Chevrolet about his inability to get any. Can you give me your dealer name and city location? Its been 7 weeks since I placed my order, and I'd sure like to get ANY kind of information on allocation possibilities from any source I can.
  • graczgracz Member Posts: 21
    Wight1,
You should give Bob Blackmon a call over at Mike
Hall Chevy on Hwy6, he is the sales manager, a very decent person to deal with, my deal was for
200.00 over no questions, he will let you know
if there are any allocations as well, Tuesdays
are his allocation days. I highly recommend him -
let him know where you heard this, I told him I
    would pass his name along.

Let me know what you hear.

    Best of luck, Greg

My truck came from DeNooyer Chevy (which was ordered 12/27 or 29) in Albany NY. It's in shipment now. The first dealer (which was Northstar - he raised the price when the truck came in, we refused the sale) kept telling us no one else had allocations either (and that truck, which is still sitting on his lot, after he said he could sell it ten times that day, came in in 15 weeks)..I complained to Chevy and the truck was allocated the next day..I don't think they really ordered it until I complained (Chevy called them while I was on the phone, since they had no record of the order)..or they were so small they just didn't have the allocations, and they wanted the allocations to go to the people they were making the most from. The second order (Denooyer was accepted almost immediately).
  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
I offer the following for you.........
Ordered 12/17/99 & recieved Order#(see Topic 555 Post 442 for details). 1/21/00 Got TPW for week of 2/7/00, Truck built 2/9/00 waiting for delivery. So far 9 weeks now.

Allocations?? If your dealer is having trouble w/allocations it's because he doesn't sell enough 2500 models (in GM's eyes) for them to give him that many allotments.

I went thru this w/my first order in August/99 before jumping ship w/this dealer & finding one in Danbury, Conneticut (City Chevrolet) who had allocations for trucks.

It sounds to me like you should go the direction Gracz is giving, but I don't know if the deal you got is worth switching, that's your decision.

Bottom line: No Allotment = No Order

Where are you located? If you happen to be in Northern California, just north of San Francisco, I have seen and sat in the exact truck you ordered. You might not have to wait 3-4 weeks. The truck I looked at was 1500 ex-cab 4 door 4x4 z-71 tow 265 wol locker 3.73 pewter graphite interior flares cellular phone 1 mile on it. This truck had me considering trading in by 3 door y2k, but I came to my senses and realized how much money I would have lost.

    Hi Kyle,
Thanks for the information, but I do not live in your area! I purchased my Silverado in southern Nevada. I was shopping in Nevada, Utah & Arizona. The dealership that I purchased my truck from was very good to deal with! My brother bought his Silverado from the same dealership last year.

The truck that I bought doesn't have the wheel flares. I know that a lot of people like the flares but I don't like the look of the Silverado with flares.

I've decided to post a made-up sample from a "problems with your Tundra" board (not on Edmunds).

"My Tundra has a problem with rattles behind the dash, harsh shifting, vibration from the wheels and a door panel that started wearing out within 50 miles of me driving it home. Other than that its been perfect. And I beat a Dodge Dakota off the line. Take that Big 3."

More proof that Toy owners have never driven real trucks.
