You're welcome, timmboj. Tennessee might be in one of those regions, I'm not sure exactly which states are included.

Hi rz06. The options and transmission that the GTI you are interested in have will have no impact upon its lease program, other than the Fahrenheit Edition package that lowers its residual values slightly. The lease program for the 2-door GTI is exactly the same as the program for the 4-door model.

Timmboj, Volkswagen Credit charges an acquisition fee of $575 and a security deposit equivalent to vehicles' monthly payments rounded up to the nearest $25 increment on every vehicle that it leases. It will waive its security deposit requirement in exchange for an increase of .00015 in the money factor that is used to calculate vehicles' monthly payments.

Hi skier07. I'm jealous, I love the GTI. The money factor that you were quoted is right in line with VW Credit's buy rate for a 36 month lease of this car with a waived security deposit. This is a good thing. As far as the selling price that you were quoted goes, the car that you described only has a spread of around $1,500 between its full MSRP and its dealer invoice price. So the $1,500 discount that you are being given makes this a very good deal. If you like the car, go for it.

    Hey,

    A few questions on leasing a GLI/GTI

I'm looking at either a package 1 Jetta GLI or GTI (2 or 4 door)
Can you please let me know the residuals and money factors for 2yr/30k and 3yr/45k leases on all 3 models. I really like the cars and am looking for the best deal.

Also, I currently own an 04 Passat and plan on trading it in. Is VW currently offering any incentives for loyalty or passat owners.

Also Also, I graduated college in December (but can also prove current enrollment) does this entitle me to any college/ college grad promos?

    Thanks man,

    J

I'm looking to lease a GTI in June, and I realize no one has the MF or residuals at the moment, but I figure I'd ask anyways. I'm looking for a 10k or 12k 36mo lease. Also, if you happen to know the residual on a fahrenheit, I'd like to know that as well. To anyone that knows, how much will your credit rating effect the money factor? I'm going to need a cosigner if that's any help.

One other quick question. I'm leasing in IL, so the sales tax is added to the cap cost up front. (at least that's what the dealership told me) I was also told that I pay tax on MSRP not on the actual sales price, which seemed a little suspicious. After all, you don't pay sales tax on the MSRP of a TV, you pay it on the sale price. I checked around, and can't seem to find any info on the topic.

    Thanks for the help!

    CarMan,

Thanks for all the helpful info.

The lease deal I was quoted for a 4 dr. GTI, option 2, manual trans. for 36 months / 10,000 miles is:

    MSRP: $26,520
    Cap Cost: $24,400
    Money Factor: .00117
    Residual: 58%
    Upfront fees: $1600
    Monthly pymt: $314 incl. tax

I'm going to sign the deal this evening, I'll post if it turns out to be b.s.
  • crosswindcrosswind Member Posts: 3
Well I signed the deal on the 30th, but as of the 31st they say they couldn't track down the car. They said that they will honor the deal we worked out into June.

I'd be interested in the new June lease numbers when they are out.

    Thanks,

    Hi CarMan,

I'm getting ready to work up a lease on a GTI. Do you have the MF and residuals for June yet? I'm thinking about a 2-Year or 3-Year lease with 15K miles per year.

    Thanks!

    Car_Man,

I noticed the VW website updated today by keeping the same offers from last month and just extending the expiration date to July 2, 2007. Does this mean all the lease figures you gave me for May are the same for June too?

    Thanks!
  • 2fast4me2fast4me Member Posts: 2
    Car_Man,

I'm reading on this site that VW GTI leases are having a MF of .00117 in May. Not sure what June's are. My local dealer is telling me that VW has offered nothing lower than 0.00215 for the past several months. Is he full of it or is there an alternate explanation? I'm in Iowa if that matters. Please help.

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share my deal with you as my way of saying thanks for all the people who previously posted info and made my research and negotiating so much easier!

I signed my GTI lease in the Seattle area last Friday...

    Car Details:
2007 VW GTI, 4 door, DSG, Pkg 2, 18" Hufs, iPod adapter, mats

    MSRP $28,5xx
Invoice: $26,998 (after regional costs added)
    Selling price: $27,100 + ttl

3 year, 10K miles/yr lease: $381/mo (including 9.2% sales tax) with $2K total out of pocket at signing ($1,2xx down, $235 for registration, license, title etc)

Calculated with .00175 MF and 58% residual.

Apologies for not having a more detailed breakdown of all the costs, but I don't have the paperwork with me at the moment. I am pretty happy with this deal because the 4 door pkg 2 cars appear to be hot property in the Seattle area and I had some difficulty even finding one to buy!

Thanks again, and good luck to those of you still looking!

    Hey Car_Man,

I am interested in leasing an 07 4dr GTI, 15,000 miles per/year. What is the residual and Money Factor for June and July? Are there any incentives?

    Thanks in advance,

Hi polyvw. Through July 8th, Volkswagen Credit's buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 24 month lease of a 2007 VW GTI (both the 2- and 4-Door) with 15,000 miles per year are .00175 and 64%, respectively. The numbers for an otherwise identical 36 month lease are .00175 and 55%. VW is running a special program on this car that enhances its money factor to .00117 in the Central and Eastern U.S. This is a pretty good deal on an amazing vehicle. It's a lot better than its previous lease program.

Through July 8th, VW Credit's buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 24 month lease of a 2007 Jetta GLI with 15,000 miles per year are .00068 and 59%, respectively. The numbers for an otherwise identical 36 month lease are .00068 and 51%. When negotiating your lease on the GLI, make sure to take the $750 VW Credit bonus cash that is currently available on it into account. It will help you to negotiate an attractive capitalized cost for your lease. I am not aware of any cash incentives for loyal owners or recent college grads.

Hello wylyth. Through July 8th, Volkswagen Credit's buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2007 GTI with 12,000 miles per year are .00175 and 57%, respectively. This money factor is enhanced to .00117 in the Central and Eastern U.S. If you were to lease this car with only 10,000 miles per year, its residual value would be 1% higher.

I know that Illinois' sales tax laws for leases are terrible. I don't know the exact details of how sales tax is calculated in your state, but I would not be surprised if the way that you described it is correct. You may be able to find out additional information on how sales tax is calculated in your state by visiting the following sites: CyberDrive Illinois or Illinois Department of Revenue.

Thanks Car_Man. You Rule! I nabbed an excellent lease in Philadelphia last Saturday, June 30th. I got Edmunds invoice price, plus the .00117 MF and 55% residual. I calculated my "best case scenario" lease numbers and they agreed to it, no games.

I researched about two months, and it paid off big-time -- this is the best deal I've ever gotten.

Awesome deal. I'm in Phila too, who did you deal with? My GF is looking to lease a wolfsburg edition. We had a quote of $261/mo taxes included w/$1000 out of pocket for a 48/mo lease. The MSRP on the car was $21,500. Do you think that's a good deal? I thought it to be kind of high.

    Hi Carman-

Could you provide the numbers for VW's leasing program subsequent to the promotion that ended on July 8?

    Thanks!

I live in Boston (so I'm on the east coast) and I was just quoted a MF of .00205 for a 4-door, 36 month/15k mile lease, with residual of 55%. Has the program for the second half of June really gotten that much worse than the one you mentioned through the 8th (MF of .00117)?

Additionally, could you please provide the residual and MF for the current 24 month program as well?

    Thanks a lot- Josh

Hi mediaguy2. My advice to you is to find out this car's MSRP and selling price. That is the best way to tell how good a deal you are getting. Not only will these numbers show you how much of a discount you are being given on your car, they will also enable you to use VW's current lease program to estimate what your monthly payment should be. I would be happy to give you my opinion of this deal if you provide me with this info.

    Hi Car_man-

Thanks for the response- can you confirm that the residuals you posted are correct? Something about 54% residual on a 24-month lease and 55% residual on a 36-month lease doesn't sit well with me. Maybe 64% on the 2-year?

Also, are the rates the same for the four-door model, or does that have it's own program?

    Thanks so much!

    Carman,

North Jersey is out of 07 GTI's. I just drove an 08 and really wanted it. Unfortunately, they are at $349 for 36 with 15k miles with $1600 out of pocket.

Do you have the 08 MF's and residuals. In particular 08 GTI 15k miles 36 months no cap cost. Thanks in advance.

    MSRP of $23370.

    Hello Guys,
Today I test drove a 2007 GTI 2-Door and I absolutely loved it! I want to get one really bad, hopefully this week. Could you please tell me what is the approximate monthly rate I can expect to get on a 36 month, 15,000 miles lease on one that's around $27,000 - with basically no money down (just the first payment, etc.)? My credit score is around 650. Any help from you is greatly appreciated, since I am on a limited budget, but in love with GTI! Looking for a ballpark figure, not an exact one.
    Thank you very much.

You're right, Josh, that was a typo. Sorry about that. Volkswagen Credit's September buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 24 month lease of a 2007 GTI 2-Door with 15,000 miles per year are .00158 and 63%, respectively. The numbers for an otherwise identical 36 month lease are .00158 and 54%. The numbers for the 4-Door version of this car are currently exactly the same.

Hi cicilbri. The best way to get a good deal on a leased vehicle is to negotiate as low a selling price as you can and then have the dealer that gives you that price calculate your car's monthly payment using its buy rate lease money factor. You are off to a good start because you already know what selling price the dealer you are working with is using. It is tough for me to give you my opinion of this price without knowing what this car's MSRP is, but I can tell you that you should shoot for a selling price of right around dealer invoice on a leased '07 GTI right now. The $500 lease cash that Volkswagen is currently providing on this model should make a selling price of dealer invoice possible in areas that have a decent level of competition. You can look up the invoice price of the exact model that you want by visiting the following section of this site: Edmunds.com - New Vehicle Pricing.

Once you arrive at a selling price that you are comfortable with, have the dealer that gives it to you calculate your monthly payment using VW Credit's current buy rate lease money factor of .00043.

Here's the information that you're looking for, pollofrito81. Volkswagen Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2008 VW GTI 2-Door with 15,000 miles per year are .00171 and 55%, respectively. The money factor for an otherwise identical lease of a GTI 4-Door would be the same, but its residual value is one point lower.

Hello s_atl. I completely agree with your opinion of the GTI. I love this car. I almost got one myself the mast time that I was in the market for a new vehicle, but its lease program just wasn't that great at the time. Of course, Volkswagen enhanced it significantly the month after I leased something else  . Oh well :) .

Your lease payment for this car will depend upon what its MSRP and selling price are. In your post you mentioned a price of $27,000. Is that the MSRP or selling price of the car that you want? For now I will assume that it is its MSRP. Always remember that the selling prices of leased vehicles are negotiable, just as if you were paying cash for or financing them. A base 2007 GTI has a spread of around $1,500 between its full MSRP and its dealer invoice price. Plus, VW is currently providing $500 lease cash on it. This gives you a total of $1,500 to play with. Let's assume that you are able to negotiate a discount of $1,500 on the car that you want to lease and see what sort of lease payment we come up with.

According to my calculations, if you were to lease a 2007 Volkswagen GTI 2-Door that has an MSRP of $27,000 and a selling price of $25,500 through Volkswagen Credit right now for 36 months with 15,000 miles per year, your zero down, pre-tax monthly payment would be around $367.

The numbers for an otherwise identical lease of a 2007 model are .00158 and 63%. Volkswagen is currently providing a special $500 cash incentive on leases of the '07 model through VW Credit, but no cash on the '08 model.

    Hi Car_man

I am located in Los Angeles. and I am planning to lease a 2008 VW GTi 4-doors with manuel transmission. The ONLINE price (MSRP?) of my personalized option ended up to be $22,919. Looking for a 36-months period with 15,000 miles per year lease. My credit score is around 750 and I am willing to pay around 300-350 tax included monthly. Approximately how much the downpayment is need to walk out the door. Thanks

I want a 2008 4 door GTI, "autobahn". It seems to have more rear seat head room than an A8 and is very versatile and does not waste fuel. It is a practical a fun car as I can imagine.

I am about to get a A4. That is because Audi wants me to. I can't help it. The MSRP on a A4 6MT, premium package, convenience package, Bluetooth, is about $36500. The VW is $26,800.

However, when you want a 36 month lease at 15,000/yr. the VW has a 54% residual and a MF in October of 0.00238. A4 has a residual of 59% which you can buy up to 60% by purchasing the all included service plan. The MF is 0.00128. Both spec out in the mid $400s.

I feel sorry for VW dealers and for me. Audi doesn't want to lease A3s either. I think their MF is 0.003?? and the residual is down because VW/Audi thinks hatchbacks don't have resale. This from the company that makes A4 and A6 Avants. I don't get it.

2008 GTI DSG w/ 18 inch wheels (PKZ), Sunroof, and GTI matt kit

Cap Cost $25,750 (That's $200 over their invoice)
    39 Month Lease
    57% Residual
Money factor .00261 plus addl .00045 for b tier
    Zero Down
    $430 a month

    Thanks in advance!

Hi Jackham. You actually would be better off paying a slightly higher payment and not making any down payment than putting money down to arrive at a target monthly payment. I always advise consumers against making large down payments on leased vehicles. Those who make them risk losing part or all of them if their vehicle is totaled in an accident or stolen and never recovered.

Let's work up a sample lease payment on the car that you are interested in and see what we come up with. You never mentioned its selling price, so for now I will assume that you are able to negotiate a $1,000 discount. According to my calculations, if you were to lease a 2008 Volkswagen GTI 4-Door that has an MSRP of $22,919 (this might now be the correct MSRP...it sounds a little low) and a selling price of $21,919 through Volkswagen Credit right now for 36 months with 15,000 miles per year, your zero down, pre-tax monthly payment should be around $342. As you can see, this is actually pretty close to your target payment with nothing down.

Hi jonahmc. $200 over dealer invoice is a very good selling price for a leased 2008 Volkswagen GTI. The money factor that you were quoted looks a little high though. VW Credit's current buy rate lease money factor for the '08 GTI for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier is .00223. So if you have to pay .00045 more than that because you don't qualify for the top credit tier, you money factor should be around .00268.

    Hello Car-man,

I want to lease a 2008 2-door GTI, automatic with autobahn package for 36 months, 12K/yr, with little or no down per your advice. I should be top tier credit. The MSRP is $26,825, and invoice is $25,062. So assuming a purchase price of $25,300, what would my monthly payments be? What is the current money factor, residual amount? Can individuals find the money factor and residual amounts on their own? Lastly, how good is VW's nationally advertised GTI lease special? (39mo, 12K, $299/mo., $2420 due, on $23,370 MSRP)

Thanks for this wonderful resource you provide!

    Hi Car_man,

Went in to the dealership this weekend where I was offered the following GTI lease deal. I am looking for a 3yr/36k miles lease on a base 4 door GTI MkV automatic.

Unfortunately there apparently are no "base" models left in the entire state of Arizona and the closest thing they have is one with upgraded wheels, that I do not care for and which adds $900 to the price of the car. Here is what I was offered:

    * $25,835, including startup fees of $1,100
    * $0 OTD
    * 0.00097 money factor, 55% residual
    * $379/mo + tax

What do you think of this deal? That price seems a little high even with $1100 startup fees and $900 wheels, it seems I'm still about $1000 over invoice. The money factor seems low (works to about 2.3%), although I have good credit (735) it seems lower than what I have seen posted here.

Looking forward to your feedback. Thanks in advance.

Wow, I'm so impressed with the info and help you provide. I need to lease 08 GTI, manual, with cloth seats, cold weather package (late intro, but already available) and sunroof. My current VW lease is up in 2 mos, so I qualify for the Pull-Ahead - waving security deposit, and they would pay my first payment. What would be the lease rate that I should get for 39 mos and 15000 miles/yr? I live in Illinois (suburban Cook County). Going to the dealer - again! - tomorrow... Thanks!!!

Of course the closest thing I find in my area is more like $25k. What do you think I can expect from the dealers as far as monthly payment with the more realistic MSRP? What money factor and residule value are they using for this promotion?

Hmm... new month, new deals! This is a much, much better offer than last month. From my (possible erroneous) calculations, it looks like the November GTI lease deal is $2520 cheaper apples-to-apples than October's national lease deal. Too bad there aren't many (any?) base models in my area, either.... :)

Car_man, for the month of November, can you please let me know what is the money factor and residual value for a 2008 GTI 4dr automatic? My credit is ~735 and I am looking at a 3 year, 12000 or 15000 mile lease. Assuming I can negotiate a decent deal on the car, what kind of monthly payment would I be looking at?

Thanks in advance for this great service! :)

If it is $309/mo. for $23,370 MSRP with nothing upfront...

    309 / $23.37 = $13.22 per thousand of MSRP

    $13.22 X $25K = $331/mo.

As far as I can tell, the advertised figures are based on sticker price less $200 dollars (the fine print says $200 dealer contribution). Thus, my guesstimate is a residual of 56% and MF of .0009.
