    Hi Carman!

I live in Florida and am in the market for a new GTI. I sent several quote requests to several dealers and so far I got one that looks good but wanted you to confirm:

The only thing this GTI has are the 18" Detroit wheels and sunroof (Carbon Steel Gray Color) which is all that I wanted.

    $326.40 + tax for 36 months / 12k miles per year
    No money down
    Inceptions: Aprx. $1700.00

Seems like a very good deal to me but I believe the inception fees are a little high. Any suggestions on reducing this? I know they differ from dealer, is there a solid number on inception fees to go buy to know if the $1700.00 is too much?

Thanks for your help and look forward to your reply.
    Rgds,
    J~

Just signed for my new 2010 GTI 4dr 6MT with

    Upgraded Stereo
    Bluetooth
    Sunroof
    18" detroits w/ summer tires
    xenons

    MSRP: 28,080

The lease is 3yr 36k miles. Residual 54% and .00082 Money Factor w/ $750 in friends and family discount.

Sign and drive $0 out of pocket. Payments are just over $400.

Sounds like a nice deal - did you pay invoice or below? This is just how I would like mine configured but am having trouble finding one in Northern California.

    What color did you get?

    Nice car - congrats!
  • polyvwpolyvw Member Posts: 59
I paid 500 above invoice and used the friends and family to cover the fees and registration, etc. They ended up doing a dealer transfer to get my car. It's the dark gray color. I'm very against putting any $ down on leases. I'd rather sign and drive and have a higher payment.
  • polyvwpolyvw Member Posts: 59
Oh, I'm in San Fran and the car was in Roseville. My dealer was awesome during the whole process.
  • carrerahcarrerah Member Posts: 23
Do you mind sharing the dealer name? I'm in the East Bay. I agree with a slightly higher payment and no cap cost reduction. I have to go back and check your deal. It sounds like I'm after the same car you got. Did you happen to see the Black Pearl? I may consider that color as an option if I can't get the darker gray color.

    Thanks for sharing!
  • carrerahcarrerah Member Posts: 23
I just looked at your deal again. Does your "just over $400" include tax, and if so, what is your tax rate - I'm at 9.25%.

Thanks again, and oh - how do you like that new car????

I bought at Royal VW and dealt with the internet manager, who will remain nameless due to forum rules. He was awesome, the whole deal was done in an hour. The car is great, just got it tinted. Yes, my payment included tax. Tell him Jarrett says hi if you do buy from him.

Here you go, spektre. Volkswagen Credit's March buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2010 GTI 4-Door with 10,000 miles per year are .00082 and 55%, respectively.

Hi jnijankin. To me, the best way to tell if you are getting a good deal on a leased vehicle is to look at the selling price that was used to arrive at the payment that you were quoted. The selling prices of leased vehicles are negotiable, just as if you were paying cash for or financing them. Without this number, it is difficult to tell how large a dealer discount you are being given and in turn if there is any room left to negotiate.

Find out what this car's MSRP and selling price are and I'm sure that either myself or another helpful community member will gladly tell you what they think.

As far as the amount that's due at lease signing goes, Banks typically charge vehicle's first month's payment, security deposit, and acquisition fee at signing. On this deal those things would amount to $326.40 + $350 + $575, which equals a little over $1,250. The rest of the money that the dealer is asking for may be for some sort of taxes or state fees. You should ask for a breakdown to find out for certain.

Hi polyvw. Here's the information that you're looking for. Volkswagen Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2010 GTI 2-Door with 12,000 miles per year are .00060 and 53%, respectively.

The numbers for an otherwise identical lease of a 2010 GTI 4-Door are .00082 and 54%.

If you were to lease either of these cars with only 10,000 miles per year, their residual values would be 1% higher.

Unfortunately, I don't believe that VW is currently providing any cash incentives on leases of the '10 GTI right now.

    I just leased a 2010 4 door with:

    rubber mats
    xenon lights
    upgraded stereo
    sun roof
    summer tires
    bluetooth

for 330/month (with tax) and 1350 down. Dealer took 2500 off MSRP and used $750 credit for drive-offs. There are deals to be had out there. (This was in socal)
  • twizzletwizzle Member Posts: 1
Do you mind sharing the dealer name? I am also in socal, looking to lease.

    Thanks!
  • carrerahcarrerah Member Posts: 23
    That's a nice deal - what color?

In Northern CA, I had a similar deal on the same car but needed 1900 vs your 1300. It did include the 750 deal. and was at 10K miles per year. It was Carbon Steel which was hard to get and the only one around at the time. I decided to wait.

Would love to get some feedback on this deal before I sign away on it. I'll share info and the specs.

    2 door GTI
    w/ Bi-xenons, sunroof, 18'' rims, sound

    MSRP:26,689
    Negotiated price: 24,900

B Tier credit: money factor of .0009

No money down, except first payment. I do have a trade in which is my Audi A4 2.0t FWD, premium package, everything but nav & quattro, also Certified Pre-Owned 100k bumper to bumper. I owe 19,500 on the audi, they offered 17,500; negotiated too 18,500.

There seems to be a shitload of fees associated with this purchase. All the lease calculations I did are correct using the numbers, but some of the fee's I am unsure of. I have been doing a lot of research on lease's but could use some help on some of these fee's.

    Fee's:
    Cap cost fee's:1,298.50
    Doc & Acq upfront: 568
    Transportation fee: 699.50

This in turn takes my negotiated price of 24,900 too the new price of 28,613.56. Which also includes my Audi's negative equity of 1100 dollars. Though I personally feel my Audi is worth the 19,500 I owe. After all this, the final payment is 460 a month including everything.

Thanks in advance for the feedback and help.

    -Matt

It sure seems like they are double dipping on the fees..

First..I'm not even sure what a cap cost fee is supposed to be.. I thought it might be the negative equity from your Audi, but if the difference is $3700, then that isn't it...

Doc and acq.fee: I'm not positive on VW's acquisition fee, but most are around $500-$600, so this looks okay.

Transportation fee of $699.50: This looks bogus.. Doesn't the MSRP you listed include the destination fee? If so, then so should the negotiated price. From this number (ending in .50), this looks like a massive dealer/doc fee that they are adding to the price... (you aren't in Florida, are you.. those dealers are notorious for this).

I see about $2000 in fees that are very, very suspect.. I'd require an explanation that made perfect sense, otherwise your price negotiation was just a sham. You seem to know how to do the calculations.. $2K is almost $60/mo. (you don't pay sales tax upfront in your state, do you?)

Hi liquid20t. Here's the information that you're looking for. Nissan Motor Acceptance Corp.'s current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2010 GTI 2 door with 15,000 miles per year are .00060 and 51%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its top aka "A" credit tier.

Thanks so much for your help on all these Car_man... these numbers really helped me to get a much better quote (they were going to charge .002 instead of .00077 on a jetta SE).
Well i drove a GTI and have fallen in love with them! so im trying to get the best rate i can of course so im wondering what the lease numbers would be for the 2010 2 door GTI with 12,000 miles per year... does it normally go up or down or stay the same?
    Thanks again

You're very welcome, chuck10553. I'm glad that you found the information so helpful. Here's the info on the GTI that you're looking for.

VW Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2010 GTI 2 Door with 12,000 miles per year are .00060 and 53%, respectively.

Volkswagen's current lease program is scheduled to run through the end of the month. It is difficult to say what its May programs will be like at this point.

Hey chuck10553. Interestingly, I don't believe that Volkswagen is currently providing support on 36 or 42 month leases of this car. It is providing support on 48 month leases though. VW Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 48 month lease of a 2010 GTI 2 Door with 12,000 miles per year are .00151 and 46%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its A credit tier.

I am looking for a 2-door or 4-door GTI in the Atlanta area. I am looking for an automatic car with 12k miles per year. In terms of pricing, what to expect? Any input from you will be really appreciated.

So i know this isnt a lease per se but i have been looking all over and cant really find the pros and cons of vw's drivers option vs. leasing besides having the car in your name... so im wondering financially which is a better idea... the have the title in my name isnt on the top of my list since im under a fairly tight budget... so does it make sense to do the driver's option over leasing and would it be cheaper monthly payments or about the same? any input would be appreciated!
    thanks!

Usually, they push the balloon loan programs in states where the tax rules for leases is not so good. Illinois and Texas are two of the states where the entire sales price of the vehicle is taxed, even on a lease. If you do the balloon note, when you trade, you get a trade-in credit against the sales tax on the new car..

If you don't live in a state with similar lease tax rules, then the balloon programs are generally not that great. You'd be better off leasing, or using the low APR purchase program.

Hi car103. Spec out the exact GTI that you are interested in over in the New Vehicle Pricing section of Edmunds.com and let us know what its full MSRP and dealer invoice price are. Using those numbers I can tell you want selling price to shoot for in your negotiations and what tis car's approximate lease payment would be if you were to lease it through VW Credit right now.

    Car_man,

I'm looking to lease a four-door, automatic 2010 Volkswagen GTI for a term of 36 months with an annual allowance of 15,000 miles. The configuration and pricing are below as calculated by Edmunds.

You can assume a selling price of invoice with no money down and all taxes rolled into the monthly payment. Please note in your calculation that since I live in Illinois, the entire vehicle is taxed.

    Model Year: 2010
    Model: 5K1DW3 GTI 4-DR 2.0T AUTO 50 STATE
Exterior Color: 1K1K CARBON STEEL GRAY
Interior Color: QW TITAN BLACK LEATHER
    Options: 9VE PREMIUM SOUND SYSTEM
    9W2 BLUETOOTH LOW
P79 18" DETROIT ALLOY WHEEL PACKAGE WITH ALL SEASON
    P83 XENON HEADLAMP PACKAGE
    W74 GTI AUTOBAHN PACKAGE

    Estimated Total MSRP $30,860
    Estimated Total INVOICE $28,778

Thank you for all the work you do on these message boards.

I typically keep a car 3-4 years. Given the numbers below, is it smarter to buy or lease? I take good care of my car and have good credit.

VW is offering 1.9% purchase financing, 60 month term, monthly payment = $505.

Lease terms offered are 36 months; 15,000 annual miles; residual = 51%; money factor = .001 (2.4%), monthly payment including tax = $406.

I've never leased before so hope someone with lease/buy savvy can recommend best option.

    no money down
    taxes included in payment
    location-new england
    2-door manual
    only 2 options
    upgraded stereo and bi-xenon headlights
i dont wanna really pay anything over $400 monthly payments
I think the invoice for this is around $23,000

I've been thinking of leasing a 2010 GTI and would like some help from here. I'd like to know how much am I looking at if I wanted a:

    2010 GTI - 4dr
    -Candy White
    -Autobahn package
    -Bi-Xenon
    -Dynaudio package

-Looking to get 2 (if possible) or 3 year lease with 12,000 miles per year without any money down except for the first month and necessary fees.

MSRP is $28,811 and invoice is $26,840. I'm in San Diego if that matters.

Also, does VW have a Multiple Security Deposit program and if so, how does it affect the money factor on the lease?

    Thanks a lot!

I'd be happy to work up a sample payment for you. According to my calculations, if you were to lease a 2010 Volkswagen GTI 4 Door that has an MSRP of $30,860 and a selling price of 29,278 ($500 over invoice) through VW Credit right now for 36 months with 15,000 miles per year, your zero down, pre-tax monthly payment would be around $405.

  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Hi Susan. There's not really a right or wrong answer to this question. Not surprisingly, I personally prefer to lease my vehicles. Doing so assures me that my cars are always relatively new, always fully covered by the manufacturer's warranty, I never have to inspect them, I never have to perform any major maintenance on them, and I'm protected against the loss in resale value that an accident would result in.

There's a number of benefits to leasing. The downside is that by leasing you will always have a payment and leasing does have certain annoying fees associated with it, such as acquisition and disposition fees.

Both the special financing and special lease programs that Volkswagen is currently running on the 2010 GTI are attractive. Which way you decide to go is a matter of personal preference more than anything.

Hi oofie. Let's work up a sample lease payment on this car and see what sort of payment you're looking at.

According to my calculations, if you were to lease a 2010 Volkswagen GTI 4-Dr that has an MSRP of $28,811 and a selling price of 27,340 ($500 over invoice) through VW Credit right now for 24 months with 12,000 miles per year, its zero down, pre-tax monthly payment would be around $444.

The payment for an otherwise identical 36 month lease would be a much more reasonable $363.

I know that VW Credit reduces the money factor that is used to calculate the cost of 36 month leases by .00100 for consumers who pay for the entire thing in advance, but I haven't heard anything about a multiple security deposit program for it.

So the dealer is telling me that he couldn't bump me to tier A and can only give me tier B lease rates on the GTI (even though I have previous history and a current lease with VW) and says the rate is .00158. Is this the correct rate for tier b credit 36 month lease? Is it unusual to not get the bump to tier A for a loyal/current customer - should I press the dealer harder? (my credit score is just under 700)

I am very impressed wit the information that you are able to provide to consumers in this blog. This is extremely valuable. I walked into a local dealership the other day to inquire about a 2010 GTI. I was looking for a 4DR with leather. I figure the car is going to come in about 29k by the time I add a few bits. I was surprised when the salesman walked away and came back with a monthly price of "about $500" for a 3yr 10k mile lease. After pressing him he said it would certainly be "high 4s, 480 or so". Having this information about the residual and money factor that VW are using will be very important for me to validate how they are coming up with these numbers.

With Tier 1 credit and a 29k price (using the edmunds lease calculator) and the residual and money factor you provided before I could get to that price. I am wondering if those numbers would be any different for a :

    2010 4dr gti
    wolfsberg pkg
    3yr/ 10k mi

    figure all in $29k ish

i was using a residual of 52% (meaning residual value of 15k ??) - any different for 10k/year?
money factor .0008 ( as far as the edmunds will calc out)

    Let me know please
    Mike

    Hey folks,
The residual values I got from my dealer in VA are 53% for 12K/year and 51% for 15K/year.

Here is the deal I got and I wanted to know what you guys think:
    2010 GTI
    Manual Transmission
    2-door
    Bluetooth and Mats, nothing else.
    15K/year and 3 year lease.

    Sticker: $24,639

Paying $325 a month (for 35 months). No down payment, no taxes, dealer fees or any other fee. I paid nothing. Also, I am not paying the first months payment due to the college grad program they have. My money factor was 0.0006 (= 1.44% interest rate). I think I got a pretty decent deal. What do you guys think?

Hi egaertner. Here's the information that you're looking for. Volkswagen Credit's June buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2010 GTI 4DR with 12,000 miles per year are .00064 and 53%, respectively.

The numbers for an otherwise identical lease of a 2010 GTI 2RD are .00041 and 52%, respectively.
