yea...the taxes and everything else checked out. would need to bring like 2300 to signing...which included first month. seemed like it lined up with sales tax, doc/dmv and etc. but the payment is way off, as i suspected, when you put the aq fee in. it's like talking to an imbecile trying to explain to them that the total of the payments is well above the amount of the car i'm "leasing" based on their own numbers!

The dealer is not allowed to modify the residual; just confirm its for the term and mileage you want.

I'd ask for a full accounting of the $2300, just to make sure there isn't any "junk" in there.

And, get the adjusted cap cost from the dealer along with an explanation of how they got there from the selling price.

I get $511/mo, if the acquisition fee is added to the CAP cost.
0.50% APR = .00042 MF, approximately

reason why i asked about the residual is because two dealers gave me two different residuals on the exactly similar vehicles with same MSRP. i was given 51 and 52% residuals for 36m/10k. the numbers i gave you are obviously the lower ones.

but i'm confused...i was at $486 with the AQ fee and 0.5%? what am i missing?

Selling Price: 40619 (after dealer discounts and rebates from MSRP)

Fee: 650
Interest: 0.5%
Taxes and Other Fees (DMV) are being paid upfront at signing

Lease Cost: 16777 + 650 + Interest

I'm still getting $486. How are you arriving at 511? Am i missing a step? Is the interest applied against the rebates?

36 months is generally the sweet spot

36/12 numbers; add 1% for 10K

52% (SEL) or 50% (Ltd) and .50%

They can't change it. 48% is the 36/15 residual. That's the one that is listed. They have to add 2% to get 36/12.

Here are the numbers they gave me on a 36/12. Even though they told me 48% the number ended up being 50%. Still trying to hone my lease math so I can play with the numbers. My tax rate with this dealer should be 7.25% but I can't make that line up with their numbers so maybe Illinois does taxes differently.

Used the directions at https://www.edmunds.com/car-leasing/calculate-your-own-lease-payment.html and came up with $473.

Used .5 / 2400 to get the MF.
Any math tips would help.

MSRP: $46055.
Selling Price: $42993.
Residual: 50% - $23027.50
Lease Cash is $4000.
Taxes: $1534.62
Payment: $518.

IL collects the tax upfront. Plus, the incentives are taxable. So, just assume the dealer has calculated taxes correctly, and add them to your selling price (assuming you are rolling them into the lease). Then, put a zero in the tax field, on the calculator.

Anything you are paying upfront, just leave out of the calculator.

If I add the tax, then deduct the lease cash, I get a payment of $499/mo. That's a little bit away from $518/mo, but I don't see any mention of the acquisition fee in your numbers? Just ask the dealer for the adjusted CAP cost on the deal.

Did a little research. Looks like IL taxes the down payment (and I assume incentives) and the monthly payment. Weird. So you have to run the numbers without tax to get the payment, then figure the tax on the payment and work that BACK into the numbers, assuming you roll it into the lease, to figure the real payment. I think...

Every state that taxes the monthly payment, also taxes CAP cost reductions.
