I love it.
I think it is a great car for $30K.
Thanks.
Another thing, I wouldn't force anyone but a small child to sit in the backseat for any length of time.
BTW - they also had a maroon G5 on display with a sign on it that said "not available for retail sale." Salesman told me GM dropped it off as a surprise. It must have been a preproduction model.
THANK YOU.
The new steering wheel was limited to only 5 functions and BAND was not one of them.
Went to one dealer in town and they told me they would call,if they ever got a G6 convertible on the lot. Went to another dealer 3miles from my house and they had 3 sitting on the lot (2006). With $1000 rebate because we have another non-GM vehicle in the family and 0.0% interest for 36 months, we had to go for it! We even got them to budge a little on the MSRP. They would not even talk GM family employee (family member works at Delphi) discount on these cars though, unless I ordered one.
I have had it less than 24 hours and so far, I love it!
Free oil changes and car washes as long as I own it from the dealer too!
Pontiac G6: Prices Paid & Buying Experience
Has anyone found anything serious about the 06 GTP Convertibles that would tell me to not buy one??
2. I assume you're trying to compare the G6 to a Miata. Totally different cars. With how short the Miata is, if you flip, you and front seat passenger's heads will be scraping concrete. With the length of the G6, unless the crash is extreme, the windshield header will provide *some* protection and the angle should help keep front seaters safe. Now a serious hard flip, and the windshield header will squash. See point #4 below.
3. Even the Miata's factory bars aren't very highly regarded. That's why there's two large businesses selling "serious" crash worthy rollbars. The Miata's ain't too bad but SO many cars with roll bars out there are only for "show" and wouldn't hold up to any flip. There are no standards for these bars. The manufacturer can make it out of any thin old aluminum and claim it would help in a crash (and to a tiny amount, it would) and that would be "legal".
4. When was the last time you saw a car flipped? They have a low center of gravity. Sure it happens, but usually it's a matter of the driver being asleep or drunk and driving off the highway and through a ditch or something.
SUVs might flip in a "normal" accident (tire blow up, someone ramming you, sliding on ice) but cars don't flip like that. They tend to slide. Years ago my father lost control of his car on a slick highway. I was in the backseat and so scared, but despite sliding off the highway into the right ditch at a high rate of speed (60) we just SLID and spun, never came close to flipping.
A good set of roll bars would be nice, but there's a lot of convertibles out there without them because they're not all that necessary. I'd worry about having the side air bags as a priority.
I sat in a G6 convertible today, as well as a Solstice. I am 6'2" (34 inch inseam). I was too tall for the G6. I could find a position for my head, but I still had to "find" that position, even with the seat back and the back reclined too much. I fit better in the G6, but I realize they are very different cars. I liked the feel of both cars. Impressive for the price point. And nice looking.
The windshield, the way I understand it, only has to support the weight of the vehicle, in other words any decent roll over, it caves in.
I check the Internet CHP, which is the highway patrol site, and see lots of roll overs every day listed. I have a scanner, which I listen to now and then, and hear a TC roll over quite often. Maybe it is a California thing, but I would think any part of the country where cars travel over 30 MPH, you are going to have roll overs. Come to think of it, an SUV can help you on over while sitting at a stop sign.
Things happen! That is why you see roll over protection for every convertible made in Germany, since I believe it is the year 2000. They have a video on the Net of a roll over test on a VW. The roll over tee in the back did the job beautifully.
GM is just saving some money. If people don't care about head protection - fine. Why bother with side air bags, anti-lock, ESC and the rest of the jazz, if ya lose your head? :P
Enjoy the ride. Hope it has the steering from the GTP and not that electric assist steering.

Just picked up the car today and drove from Orlando to Miami Beach, had top down and up for the trip. Wow, must say, I'm coming out of a 99 slk230 and this car, although no mercedes, was very impressive. The accelarating on the turnpike was great, as well as breaking and ride. Loved the xm radio and the 8 speakers, what a great car for the money!
Just not use to that slight shimmy feeling in the steering wheel. Can it be front wheel drives do this?? I stopped and double checked the tires. They all had balance weights! Any feed back would be appreciated
The Solstice and G6 Coupe are the two good looking cars, IMHO, in the GM line, until you get up into Cadillac expense, or Corvette.
Out of curiosity, why did you sell the SLK?

I'll agree with you GM is saving money. It's a $30k convertible. You can only buy so-much car for $30k. To get anything substantially safer you're looking at $40k. There's also the question of packaging. To add roll bars that actually DID something, they'd need space, and the trunk thanks to the hard top is already crowded.
I live near Cleveland and drive 44 miles to work each day. During all the snow/ice storms I've seen over the years, I remember maybe 1 or 2 rollovers of cars on the highway. I've never seen a rollover on secondary streets. Perhaps it is California.
If it was an oscillation that you noticed after driving over a bump in the road, that would have cowl shake. Probably not much you can do about that. A front strut tower brace may help though.

I am posting today for a very strange reason. I have been very blessed with a very successful Tupperware business. Well, Tupperware rewards those of us that meet 12 - 18 month challenges with this wonderful car. The Pontiac G6 convertible 2007. I received my car 3 weeks ago. It is beautiful, but just not practical. I have 2 children, a husband and lots of stuff. So I have decided I need to sell it.
The car has 1007 miles on it, it is Silver and all the bells and whistles - including remote keyless start, 18" aloy wheels and much more.
I guess I am asking if any of you could suggest a way to sell this car - I had a dealer tell me I wouldn't be able to get more than $21,000 - I think he is crazy.
If you have any advise for me I would appreciate it. BTW, I am on Coastal GA.
Thanks in advance!

This one was ivory with black, 07 GT (I think), and it was very classy looking (better than the Solstice INSIDE).
Hope Pontiac has another hit on their hands!!
There are not that many options for this car, but you may want to print out the option page from this site and understand the interaction between the packages. During my searching, some of the salespeople provided some misinformation out of confusion. For example, I was told twice that I would need to find a GTP if I wanted the 3.9L engine. In reality, the GT with the sports package includes that engine. Tip for when you are cruising the lots: If the car has two chrome exhaust tips, it has the 3.9L engine. In addition to the larger engine, the sports package adds the StabiliTrak, 18 inch wheels, automatic air conditioning and 6-way power driver seat. I'm 6-2, and my head hits the roof on the passenger's side, but I can move the driver's seat down, which provides ample headroom. Also take a hard look at the premium package (which is required if you get the sports package). That package also gives you the power driver seat, the leather "appointed" seats, remote vehicle starter system, and a mandatory item for me -- XM radio.
I've only had the car all of one day now, but I really love it so far. No problems with the top.
Here was a surprise: I was playing a CD I had burned, and when I looked over at the CD player the name of the song was displayed. Not sure how that works, but it appears the G6 has some ability to read tags.
Nothing happening at the office today, so I drove up and down the coast for a few hours. The car has a nice feel and ride. I'm very happy with my buying decision.
The radio has an automatic volume feature that raises and lowers the volume to compensate for the ambient noise. I don't have a great deal of experience with convertibles, but on a recent vacation I rented a PT Cruiser convertible for a week. At freeway speed, I was very aware of the wind in the cab and I couldn't really listen to the radio at a comfortable level. The G6 is a completely different experience.
Also, do you notice if you have the drivers window down and hit some road bumps, pot holes, you can here it rattle in the door?
Anyway, my Silver G6 Black leather interior (premium package)is officially for sale. I hope I will be able to sell quickly or I will put too many miles on it and have to lower the price - LOL - It is FUN to drive!

I would like to share my experience with my recently purchased G6. I have been looking for one for most of the summer. Every dealer I went to did not want to take anything off and most wanted above sticker price.
A few weeks ago I went to a dealer in Turnersville, NJ and the salesman wanted to charge me 8.8% for a 72 month loan. I politely told him I have a credit score close to 800 and he should run my credit so I can get a lower rate. He refused so I left. He also tried to tell me I would not get a better deal anywhere else and I should just purchase the car from him. He also told me he sold 3 G6’s last week alone (which was not the case at all since I had been monitoring their inventory and they have the same 3 G6’s listed on their site for the last 4 weeks). I hate bad salesman.
A few days later I went to a dealership in Marlton, NJ and they had listed on their website a blue gold crystal metallic G6 with the leather package upgrade with remote start, heated seats, side airbags, and the price was only $800 more than the base model. Normally the leather packages run around $1500 above the base models.
When I inquired about the car they had no idea where the car was. Apparently the website is updated when the car ships from the plant and not when it arrives so I did not get to see the car.
They wanted to charge me $1500 over invoice for a chance to buy the car before it arrives. Of course I refused and then they came down to sticker price and ultimately I got the car for $500 under sticker, 3 yrs worth of oil changes, and a 7 year power train warranty thrown in as well. Plus in the end I got an excellent interest rate. I have been hoping to score a blue gold crystal metallic car too. I took possession of the car last Thursday and I absolutely love it. It rides great and it feels great to drive. Lots of stares as I drive down the highway too.
Is this a good deal? I have not had any luck getting a better than this and I have gone to 5 dealerships in my area over the last few months. Does anyone think there will be incentives for this model anytime soon?
Thanks for reading .
Kevin
My SVT Contour has all of the above plus the seat-back reclining, and it was marketed as an 8-way.
You could go check out some G6 coupes/converts at the dealer to see if yours is normal.
PS- do you notice a slight shimmy in your steering wheel around 60-70 mph? Thanks!
