"PS- just came in from down-town miami to my home on Miami Beach, top down and 70 degrees with not sign of humidity! hate to rub it in but, it did feel good."

Ouch. That was rubbing it in! :(

I've got to admit I've caught a pretty nasty case of spring fever too. It's actually a warm day today in Michigan - high of 44! I'm thinking I can probably make it home with the top down. ;)

As to the rattling sound. It sounds like the same thing I was referencing in Post # 257. It is mentioned by another in #259. I hope we can all get it figured out and share the method of fixing. Its the only thing I don't like about the car.
Oh yeah, the gas mileage doesn't come close to what's on the sticker.

We're in the upper 40's in Indy and I briefly considered putting the top down. However, we still have 6-12" of snow on the ground, plus the snow mountains in my work parking lot are nearly 2 stories tall. If I put the top down, I was afraid someone might call those guys with the white jacket with the long sleeves. :D

Hope you feel guilty down there in Miami ... my case of convertible fever just became even more severe!!!

I just purchased my G6 HTC and like many others have rattles - windows up or down. My passenger says that the rattle is also on the passenger side. It seems to come from the panels to the rear of the door panels. On a previous post, it looked like Topper had found a solution. Would love to know what it was.

One comment on the warranty - I bought the GMPP Major Guard warranty and it does cover the top. I confirmed that with the salesman (but they will tell you anything) and then I confirmed it with my service writer who takes care of my other Pontiacs.

The rattles can be fixed! The day I drove off the lot, the car developed a loud rattle in the roof/trunk. The dealer took a few days to fix/adjust it but it is now totally rattle free. It has something to do with tightening some tension springs just right....the technician had to adjust it 3 times before he got it right. The dealer also worked w the Pontiac factory rep and they extended my 36K bumper to bumper warranty to 60K for my trouble.
I got a great deal too! $5000 off before I walked in the showroom and negotiated ($1000 rebate, $1000 conquest cash, $500 presidents day rebate, $1000 GM Card points and $1500 Bonus GM points). I have to admit that the VW Eos was my first love but I couldn't resist a savings of about 12k for a G6 versus the Eos
  • jack15jack15 Member Posts: 25
    Thanks for sharing the fix.
Could you be more specific as to where these "tension springs" were located ? This would give my mechanic a head start on fixing the problem.
  • jvonderhjvonderh Member Posts: 4
That's all the Dealership GM told me...he also said that if they are overtightened, the hood when raising will "pop".
Sorry, I can't be more specific. I've put 500 miles on the car since repaired and the rattles have not returned.
    Good Luck

I just received my new G6 convertible. I like it a lot, but have two issues. 1st, the seat back does not adjust forward (because of a lower back issue, i need to sit reasonably straight and upright in a car seat) I called the dealer and he looked at the car on the showroom floor and reported the same non-adjustability. This week at the Cleveland Auto Show, i sat in the show car convertible, the coupe and the sedan and all had adjustable seats. What is the experience out there? Adjustable or no?
2nd issue. Can you believe that the visor does not extend to the rear when shifted to the side window? I haven't had a car with non-adjustable visors for years. What's the deal?
  • shouldbeworkinshouldbeworkin Member Posts: 26
I have a convertible w/ power seats and it has an adjustable lumbar support. My only complaint would be that I wish they made the recline power adjustable and not just the lower seat.

For your second issue, I'll have to look closer at the visor. With the damn Michigan winters, I haven't seen the sun in months to have to worry about that issue!
  • shouldbeworkinshouldbeworkin Member Posts: 26
You mechanic should have access to GM service bulletins. On my invoice from when my car was worked on, I had the roof tightened per bulletin #06-08-59-003A, and the roof latches adjusted per PI# 1865996. Hopefully that helps!

Like the guy in Fl, I to am having spring fever, oh wait, I live in Southern CA, I've got convertible weather most of the year. Sorry, I really had to rub it in. I came from the midwest where having a convertible wasn't practicle for most of the year, so I have to admit, that even with the problems I experienced last summer when I first bought the car, I am still very happy with my purchase.

To the guy about the seats, mine sit practically straight up, I know this because it's the way I like to sit while driving too.

    :) :shades: :shades:

The back position on my G6 convertible are adjustable through a long manual lever that rests on top of the seat form. It is the same type of lever that the passenger side has to move the front seat forward so someone can get in the back seat. Mine allows me to be almost perfectly upright if need be and provides other levels of reclining as well.

Hi Has anyone replaced or found covers or inserts for the side mirrors? I hate the flat black mirror. Even the G5 has color inserts to change the black mirror to match your car color. Actually the G5 and G6 seem to have the same style mirror. Does anyone know if we can remove the place inset and snap in a color from the G5? Any suggestions?

My beautiful 4 month old, Crimson Red Convertible saved me and my precious wife today but gave its life to do it. Two questions for you folks. Thinking about replacing this car.

    1. Is one really able to get the rub, squeak, rattle that is behind the driver's door (rear quarter panel) fixed? I took mine in twice and the service manager said mine was one of the quietest he has driven. "I'm lucky!" To me, as much as I like everything else about the car, that squeak drove me nuts.

    2. I had the 3500 engine and was pleased with the adequate performance and gas mileage, 19-20 city and 26-31 hwy depending on the wind. However, I hear a lot about the 3900. Which engine do you like?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Wow, that sucks, sorry to hear. At least your wife is fine!

Yes I got the squeak out! the bulletin mentioned in a prior posting here worked. I took the bulletin number with me to the dealer and they fixed that problem however in doing so I now have a more annoying creek where the roof closes above the windshield on the drivers side. Very annoying!!! Now i'm back off to the dealer on Thursday to hopefully get that worked out!

I have 3900 engine and test drove both engines a few times and i prefer the 3900. The ride feels better as well. If they can work the creeks out, the car is great. I also use a spray silicone every month or so on the rubber where all the windows rest as that is where I get some squeaking. If you hit the window button down and back up, it seems to disapte a bit! Good luck to you.

    Thanks for the info.

Now that we've counted our fingers and toes and all are still with us, today I'll work with the insurance company to see what happens. To me the car is new. Next month was to be our first road trip. To them, it may be used.

I was just sitting, waiting to pull into traffic when a car, traveling at hwy speed, drifted across her lane came into the parking lot and hit us. She has insurance but limits of liability are too low in Texas to cover much of an accident.

However it works out, we're counting our blessings. She glanced off another car first or she would have hit right at my door. Today's another chance at life, thanks be to God.

Wow, what a story. Like you said at least you're counting your blessings. Best of luck with your decisions. I will post a note after my visit to the dealer tomorrow to see how we do with the new creek they created when taking care of the one I brought the car in for.....

My top rattled either up or down. They have fixed the rattles in the down position but I still have some when the top is up. Frankly, when the radio is on, I really don't notice them anyway. If they get too annoying, I will take the car in again but in the meantime, I am enjoying the top down whenever the weather here in North Texas allows. A few creaks are a small price to pay for so much enjoyment.

Fully loaded--but could not find the Mp3 jack--is there one? Salesman had no real knowledge of the car.

Thinking about leasing but way far more expensive than buying.

Car was a bit underpowered but appears pretty decent.
  • gmerilligmerilli Member Posts: 25
One of the disappointments that I have with the stereo system is that the CD player will not play MP3 CDs and there is no AUX jack to plug in an IPOD or other MP3 Device. However, I love the sound and I love the XM radio.
  • hal56hal56 Member Posts: 94
i have the convertible and am disappointed that there is no lock on glove compartmnets--either one of them

but the car is nice--its certainly not a top performer or best in class in any category, but its still a nice car

I'm interested in a G6 convertible but want to find pricing for a GMPP - mostly cause I'm nervous about the hardtop working in 5 years - I've found some info - does anyone have any feedback with this protection program? ordered one through a dealer? knows if the pricing is negotiable?

    Thanks for any info.
  • hal56hal56 Member Posts: 94
i did not buy an extended warranty--if as i near 3 years i do not like the car -it goes--i originally intended on leasing, but the deal on a purchase with 0% financing was better.

but watch out for the warranties. Last month i read about one of the warranty companies going bankrupt.
  • stevensorianostevensoriano Member Posts: 40
I got the GMPP....7 years or 100,000 miles, $0 deductible.

The dealer started at $1,200 and worked their way down to $600 by the time it was over. I took the $600.

I have been F'ed by aftermarket extended warrantees on previous cars. The companies sell you the warrantees and then go out of business.

I have fewer fears with the GM plan, and you can use it at any dealer. I believe others have confirmed that the warranty covers the convertible mechanism, which scares us all.

I really like my G35 Convertible (AKA G6). It is good looking, and the hardtop/no top option makes it an all weather joy.

    Rock on.

Thanks for the info Steve & Hal. Going to visit local dealer tomorrow and see what I can work out.

When I bought my G6 hardtop/convertible this weekend the dealership had attractive 3 year leases. I should be covered for all of the 3yrs/36,000 miles I signed up for with the standard (read no additional cost) warranty.
  • bxdbxd Member Posts: 186
Would you mind posting the lease deal you got? How much down, how much per month, how many miles? Thanks!
  • hal56hal56 Member Posts: 94
    I too would be interested in the lease offer;
i shopped at 3 dealers and the price to buy was 1500 different--but the price to lease was the same

tells me they play with leases.

Hey all... I'm happy to report that I am now the proud owner of a brand new 2007 G6 granite metallic convertible. I picked it up last Tuesday and I love it  .

I have, however, gotten the rattling/rubbing window sound and when I take it in for its first "check-up" I'm gonna have that taken care of. Other than that, I'm happy. I've wanted this car since early 2006 and now that I'm a college graduate and I have a great job, it's mine. My boyfriend plan on taking it on vacation with us to Holden Beach this summer and I can't wait :)

Congrats on the car. Hope you love it as much as me! Funny, I just got back in after being in the car and I notice more when the car has been recently cleaned, the window sitting on the rubber squeaks more. However, If you buy spray silicone and spray the rubber, it does help. Let me know what the dealer does for you! Thanks.
  • hal56hal56 Member Posts: 94
congrats on the car--sounds like we have the same car. Looks Like Granite Metallic has been discontinued.

I am going to have an MP3 jack installed, and perhaps new speakers for a cleaner sound.

I looked for new tires--upgraded--at tirerack.com but they did not suggest any tires other than OE, which are less than stellar.
  • gmerilligmerilli Member Posts: 25
I would love to know how you make out on installing and MP3 jack. I don't believe that you can just change out the radio because the display is tied into other functions.
  • mikey00mikey00 Member Posts: 462
There are aftermarket kits out there that let you add a aux or ipod interface to the stock radio or even change out the radio all while keeping the Driver Information Center.
  • hal56hal56 Member Posts: 94
my dealer told me they could do it for a bit over $200--and I shoudl have it done there to preserve teh warranty.
  • sobeg6sobeg6 Member Posts: 50
Hi Guys, would you let me know for sure if this can be done. I have the 6 disc in dash system with XM and was told it could not be done. Please let me know what it entails and if a ipod and play through whatever you're talking about! Thanks.
  • hal56hal56 Member Posts: 94
check with your dealer--mine said it could be done and they do it--they said they should do it to prevent warranty problems. They said a little over $200

Wanted to share my unpleasant experience with my G6, I bought this one for my wife on Valentine's, was a big mistake, I had it already 4 times to the dealership, Lone Star at Mckinney (Texas), can not be trusted (had the car worked on before selling it to me as a new). Rattle noise in doors and hardtop, they replaced many items including A/C Compressor because of freon leak, trims on side panels, trunk, and top and others, striker in door. Noise still there, I am looking at going through LEMON law to have it returned. NOT a good buy, Pontiac GM should perfect this hardtop concept before going to market.
  • hal56hal56 Member Posts: 94
are you sure the car was not in an accident before being delivered to you? Or something else.

Mine is in very good condition--no leaks, very little rattle or squeaks (passenger window squeaks a bit but I put silicone on it and the noise went away)

I had dirt on the trunk seals and cleaned that up and put on silicone to avoid problems.

why would you buy a car new that needed work before delivery? Unless they discounted the heck out of it.
  • kevgretkevgret Member Posts: 37
I have had my G6 since August and I have had no problems with it. There are some small rattles with the top but nothing out of the ordinary.

I am more than pleased with the technology. I'm sorry you got a bad car but I can assure you it's not that common to experience the problems you are.

I'm looking forward to dropping the top once Jersey gets the sunshine coming in...

I paid 33.5K for it, I found out lately that they had worked on it (replaced top) prior to selling it to me, never disclosed this info.
  • hal56hal56 Member Posts: 94
first of all you probably can speak to the better bus bureau in your state and get a new car--not on ethat has been worked on--but you probably would be bettr off if you just nixed the deal and got your money back.

if you paid 33.5k --whats the sticker price?

Frankly and bluntly, most here have received nice discounts lately--minus rebates.

My Fiancee just purchased a 2007, the dealership didn't have time the day we purchased the car to do a full detail, so they asked we come a few days later. When she went back they found the same problem as yours after running it through the car wash. I'm pissed, already cursed them out twice on the phone. We've had the car for all of 6 days and this problem. Was the dealership able to fix the problem? Have you had additional issues? Your help is greatly appreciated

    Thanks,

    Hi:

I am thinking about getting a wind deflector for the g6 convertible. $420 is alot of money for a piece of mesh metal.

Has anyone purchased this? Does it reduce wind greatly?

    Any opinions are appreciated.

I bought my Pontiac G6 hardtop about 2 months ago. Less than 24 hours later it was sitting on a flatbed truck being taken back into the dealship because the hardtop had failed. I cried. It got fixed.

Jump to the present day and my hardtop is yet again going back into the shop due to hardtop failure. Same parts that broke when I first got it is broken yet again. The only good news this time is I knew what the crunching sound was and managed to get it closed so I can atleast drive it until the parts come into my dealship.

At this point is I were do have it all to do over again, I would have bought the Mustang convertable.

Sorry to hear. It's really rough when this happens. I must say after owning my G6 conv. with all the bells and whistles for 9 months, I just decided to trade it in and take a little loss (well worth it). I really tried to like the vehicle. The color was nice, the shape of the car is amazing, it looks benz or infiniti like, but the ride was so horrible, sloppy and all over the road. the roof squeaked all the time. especially after being out in the sun. The window rubber constantly needed silicone to stop them from squeaking and the steering wheel had a shimmy at speeds over 60, both with top down or up. I just realized if I held the car any longer it would depreciate even more and I would just become miserable with all the noise etc... Hope they fix your problem. Best of luck to you!
  • hal56hal56 Member Posts: 94
I have a slightly different take on the car: it's a nice car but not outstanding in any area--but also the basic car is a lower level car -the G6.

I plan on keeping it till just under 3 years for the warranty and trading up to something like the BMW hardtop convertible.
  • kevgretkevgret Member Posts: 37
I've just hit the 9 month mark with my car. I also hit the 10,000 mile mark as well.

So far, no problems with the ride. Car makes no squeaks with the top up and my gas mileage increased from 20 to over 22 mpg once I hit the 10,000 mile mark. I would like to hit around 23-24 and I do think they overestimated the mpg on the sticker. There is no way this car gets 30 mpg. I ride 90% highway miles so for me to get 22 is just not right.

    Really happy with my purchase.

Where to begin... After driving a variety of cars - Ford Explorer, Volvo S40 and a Jeep Wrangler, I decided to try something different and get into a Pontiac. I leased my HTC G6 on 1/30/07. Within 3 days it was in service and has been in and out since. I've been fighting with rattling from the hard top, front end, by the driver's side windshield (as many have mentioned in previous postings), the driver's side rear panel, but the most annoying/DANGEROUS by far are the rattling/vibrating side view mirrors when the "stock" radio is on. I found it very odd that not one fellow G6 HTC owner has mentioned this concern.. I've been told by my dealership Cunnnigham Pontiac in Bayside, NY, that the vibration of the mirrors are "normal" and to GM's specs. If this iis true - HOW ARE YOU ALL ABLE TO DRIVE??? No matter what volume or the setting of the bass, the mirrors vibrate violently making everything in view triplicate. Especially, dangerous at night, one cannot distiguish car distance when changing lanes. I was also tole to "lower" my standards and listen to my music w/o bass. HMMM.... does anyone out there see something wrong with this??
I wish I could say I LOVE my car... but I can't. Would anyone be able to help me? Provide me with some feedback?
I find it very hard to believe that this major flaw exists on all HTC G6 and not one person has made mention of it.
    Thank you for reading...
