    >>I also own an Acura TL with 270 horsepower, which is no slouch, but the TL feels like an unresponsive tank after driving the G6.

This has got to be the best endorsement for me since I'm returning my TL and considering the G6 convertible. Thanks.

I was unimpressed with the sound system, but that was sitting in the dealers only G6 which I do not recall if it had the "Monsoon" label. Maybe it didn't.

I'm going to test drive one tomorrow. When I was there last week I got handed off to three different people all trying to get me to buy one right then and there. Finally the manager came out and offered me a $1500 cash out of pocket (mostly fees) and $420 a month for a 36 month lease. He then offered me to roll my last 4 Acura TL payments into the lease for no extra money. Must be some wiggle room there. Of course there was no real incentive to get the car now just to keep the top up through January and February. I thought they weren't going to let me leave. I promised him I'd return. I need one on March 15th when my Acura lease is up.

You people are really convincing me to get this car. Lets see what I think of the test drive. I'll let you know.

I am a little annoyed with the jolt I get from the delayed acceleration. I really gotta be sensitive starting from stop. If I needed to accelerate quickly to avoid an accident, the delay might be a factor in having a problem. The other thing is occasionally the dash tells me to service the Stabilitrak. I gotta take it in to the dealer.
  • sobeg6sobeg6 Member Posts: 50
Hi, let me know what happens when you bring the car in. I have the 3.9 and no delay in acceleration and never had dash advise of the stabilitrak. I'm just amazed the avg speed seems to be in the high 20's and low 30's when i can be on I95 for 45 min at about 75mph, than side streets for 15 min about 30mph. Does not make sense. Well good luck!

the little TC light will come on when the traction control kicks in. If you look at the center radio display you will probably see the message "Low Traction". If you want to be really fast off the line press the button that turns the traction control off and put the transmission in manual mode(M1). guaranteed to light the tires. Watch out for the cops you may get an "exhibition of speed" ticket.

I agree, I've only had this car for a little over 700 miles and just one week. It's nice to look at, fun to drive (top up or down), and good for the money. I do wonder how many creaks are normal for the windows/top/trunk lid, but with the radio on, its negligible. As long as it remains reliable, I guess there cannot be too many compliants! I got the hardtop mainly because I have no garage so the car is always out in the elements. I did buy some Dupont Teflon Silicone spray to put on the weatherstripping thinking it will help preserve it.

I got mine for under $30k out the door with every option they had.

(ask your salesperson about the $1,000 Conquest dollars)

For an extra $200 I can pry off the Pontiac badges and glue on some Infiniti G35 Convertible ones they sell on Ebay.

    Then, for $30,200 I have a $50,000 car!
  • ndbandondbando Member Posts: 2
I don't think it's a traction control problem, it feels like there's a delay of fuel getting to the engine. It may very well just be my getting used to the new car. I'll update after taking it in.

    2007 G6 Convertible
    MSRP 32,250
    Discount 1,439
    Rebates 1,500
    Out the Door 29,311

Anyone out there care to share gas mileage stories on the 3.9 that comes with this car ?
  • gmerilligmerilli Member Posts: 25
Don't plan on getting anything over 20 around town.....admittedly I use the remote start in the morning, I have a heavy foot off the line and I have a 3 mile city commute....I am getting 16 to 17. even on a highway trip I got only 24. But, I have lot's of fun driving the car and despite what other say about the monsoon speakers and stereo I love it, especially XM radio.
  • jack15jack15 Member Posts: 25
I love it too, but still have less than 100 miles on it. It says I'm averaging only 12.5 MPG and my projected overall range (16 gallon tank) will be between 240 minimum to 280 maximum miles per tank. It seems very strange to me. ???
  • kevgretkevgret Member Posts: 37
    Hi:

I have been getting around 19 mpg with the basic g6 convertible and thats with 85% highway miles. In my opinion they are totally misleading the miles per gallon with this car.

I am hoping that after my first oil change (I have 4500 miles right now) the milage will come up slightly to the 22 range.

Has anyone's mileagle increased after their first oil change?

I wrote to GM complaining that they were falsely advertising. When you look up the window sticker for their 2007s they all show the MPG for the smaller 3.5 engine (even when the car has the bigger 3.9). I wonder why they do that? Is it because the 3.9 gets lousy MPG? Naah, couldn't be. Anyway, they never wrote me back.

That no longer matters to me though, as I finally decided to spend just a little more and go with the VW Eos! Am I glad I made that decision. Good luck to you on yours.
  • bxdbxd Member Posts: 186
Gas mileage complaints are rampant across the board. It's because the test is too mild in driving style and it's too easy to work it to achieve good numbers. If you think a few MPG is bad, look at the Honda hybrids. Real owner reports are 10-20 mpg below what the sticker says.

As far as the 3.9 getting "improved" economy for 2007, that's because the engine gained Active Fuel Management I believe. It can run in 3 cylinder mode when engine loads are low, thus saving gas. It's a great tech, and if it made it into the G6 like I think it did, that explains the bump in economy. 3.5 doesn't have this, not yet anyway.

Bought my g6 hardtop convertable 3.9 liter loaded today in Pompano Bimageeach Florida. Charcoal grey with black interior. Great car, I couldn't be happier
  • jack15jack15 Member Posts: 25
Congrats !! Same colors as mine. People can't believe it's a hardtop or a Pontiac !!!

What kind of deal did you get ?
  • sobeg6sobeg6 Member Posts: 50
Great! Miami Beach here and have my G6 Conv. for about 3 months now. love it! I have the Blue Gold Crystal Metallic with the light taupe leather interior. Took all the options along with he silver radiator grill replacements and lower body color grill replacements that replace the ugly black around the fog lights. Changes the look so much for the better. Also had the window slightly tinted. I have gotten stopped a few times now, some asked if it was a new Audi, someone else thought it was an Infiniti and Mercedes! Pretty fun! Well I'm in Pompano alot maybe see you on the road! Happy New year

I've had my G6 convertible since May and love it. It's only the second car I've ever owned that regularly receives compliments from perfect strangers. (The first was a 69 Camaro while I was in high school in the 70's. What I'd give to have it back now!)

Anyway, we've run into two issues and are curious if anyone else has had the same or similar problems.

    1) After the windows fogged on the inside several times, we discovered water in the trunk. After 2 tries by the dealer, it appears to be fixed ... at least for the time being.

    2) Opening the door with frost or minor frozen water in the seal between the windows (enough to tug just a bit on the door) causes an air leak between the windows. The first time happened a few days before the appointment for the water leak, so they fixed both at once. It happened again this morning, although I haven't yet had a chance to call the dealer.

Have any of you had similar experiences?

    Thanks.

I feel kinda funny writing on this board when I made the decision to go with the VW Eos (and still loving every time I am out with it), but those considering the G6 need to know the extended warranty DOES NOT cover any of the roof mechanisms. I think that was the last push for me to go to the VW. The G6 roof mechanism is only guaranteed for the 36,000 miles no matter what extended warranty you buy (I know I read at least one poster that felt safe thinking their roof would be covered by the extended warranty - so beware - it is not!). Again, best of luck with your decisions and your cars! I am not a VW salesman, just a person that spent several months researching several convertibles, wanting to make a good decision with a $30,000 purchase.
  • druebachdruebach Member Posts: 5
That's one of several reasons we chose to purchase the GMPP warranty and for the maximum length of time. We were adamant that we weren't going to purchase this model in it's first year if the extended warranty didn't cover the top. And we did read it at the time to confirm it. However, based on your research, I plan to re-read it this evening just to be sure. FYI, dealers generally try to steer you to other after-market warranties (probably based on their margin), but we've always insisted on GMPP based on prior work experience my husband had in dealership service.
  • bxdbxd Member Posts: 186
"brothert" - which GM plan doesn't cover the roof?? GM offers a few plans, a range of protection. Some people just want cheap protection against powertrain failures... others want an almost bumper to bumper policy.

The higher end plans cover the top.
  • kevgretkevgret Member Posts: 37
    Hi:

I just pulled out my paperwork for the extended warranty I purchased for my G6 convertible. On page 3 of my contract it states the following

“When the GOLD coverage plan box has been checked on the information Schedule, only the following parts, in addition to the parts listed under the SILVER coverage are covered. Parts that are not listed are not covered.”

Section 11 Additional Parts- ….CONVERTIBLE TOP MOTOR, POWER SUN ROOF MOTOR.

“When the PLATINUM coverage has been check on the information schedule we will remedy ANY BREAKDOWN of your vehicle except those items listed under the section titled “What this service plan does not cover.” (the hardtop is not listed in this section)

I think we should be covered with a Gold or Platinum coverage plan. I have the Platinum plan so I hope I’m ok when/if my top goes bad
  • brothertbrothert Member Posts: 3
for you. I told the dealer I wanted the top of the line GM warranty with 0 deductible, and he informed me that would still not cover the top past the 36,000 miles. After he told me that, I did not investigate any further and just went with the VW Eos. If he gave me incorrect information I can only thank him, as I might have went with the G6 had he not told me that (just to save a few dollars). Right now, I can't imagine my being as happy with the G6 without the enormous sunroof (that the Eos has) in addition to the power top. The VW roof operation is also so much cooler than the G6 roof operation. Hopefully, both the G6 and the Eos with operate without any flaws for many years. Best of luck!

I ordered a Sky Redline a year ago, and it came in this weekend. They wanted (after negotiation) $9,000 to swap my G6 Convertible for the Redline.

After sitting in the Redline, my head touched the roof, there was no shoulder room, and there was no storage, I told the salesman that he could keep the Redline....I wouldn't do the trade Straight Up, much less with $9k of boot.

If you have a G6 Convertible you understand. It is a very underrated car. Sure, the plastic dash is ugly, but the Sky Redline was just as low end, but with more engine, and less room.

Again, I am happy with my G6
  • sobeg6sobeg6 Member Posts: 50
Hi, what is a sky redline? Agree with the G6 being under rated. Lot's of car for the $$$! What's real nice, they are not a dime a dozen. Like being the differnt one!
  • bxdbxd Member Posts: 186
Saturn Sky is the corporate sister car to the Pontiac Solstice. They are RWD, 2 seaters, with nice power and very fun to drive. Soft top convertibles. No trunk space.

"Redline" - almost every Saturn model has a top of the line performance package, called their Redline. They also have hybrid trim levels which they are calling Greenline.

Methinks brothert has realized he purchased a Volkswagen, but he did give me pause. I double-checked, and yes the top is covered under the extended warranty. The icing on the cake is I purchased the warranty right before GM announced that all 2007s would have the 100,000 mile power-train warranty, so GM refunded a portion of the price ($385). I ended up with a 72,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty for about 300 bucks.

After having to have my first GTP replaced under the lemon law, I was still willing to give it another chance and am thrilled that I did. I've now had my '06 GTP in silver since the end of Aug and couldn't be happier, I did however purchase the top of the line GMPP for 4 yrs, cause I know I won't keep the car forever. Mine will cover the top, and if I am lucky enough to not have to use it during that 4 yrs, it will be great to add to the down pymt on my next car........whatever it is at the time.

What happended that you had to replace your car.
  • artrvlrnartrvlrn Member Posts: 6
I got my car on 6-11, and the next day noticed that the trunk was not closing properly. Took it straight back to the dealership, and it took 18 days to repair. Had it back for 2 days, and then the top would not go back up when I got home one night. I found out that I was one of 3 in the nation at that time to have this happen too. Last time I checked, they have still not figured out what the problem is. It took from July 1 to Aug 22 for Pontiac to replace the car, and I did get in writing, that if there was any problem with the top on this one they would repurchase it immediatly. So far I have loved it. Part of what took so long to replace the vehicle was trying to find the one that I wanted. Everytime we would locate one, it would get sold right before we could get the dealer trade paperwork done. In So Cal they are flying off the lots.
  • sobeg6sobeg6 Member Posts: 50
Wow, that sounds like a a big headache. Glad to hear you are having no problems now and enjoying! I have to say. I have my vehicle since Aug (07 model in crystal blue/gold metallic) and use that top (live in Miami Beach) sometimes up and down 4x a day. Never a problem. Thank God! I did have to bring back to dealer twice to figure out why the drivers window in the down position was rattling in the door. Seems to be good now. Very nice car! I get stopped often to ask what kind of car it is, I must say I pulled off the pontiac badge from the trunk along with the litter letters that spell pontiac and than purchased ne G6 letters from the dealer and placed them on the left side of trunk, so all u see is G6 on the left and GTP on the right. My dealer added the P after the GT when i purchased, because in his opinion when you order the sports and premium package you're getting what the 06 GTP had in the way of engine leather etc....

I also swapped out the black grills for the silver and the lower black ugly grills around the fog lights with the body colored grill. amazing how it changes the look! Well you all enjoy your vehicles! Ciao:)
  • druebachdruebach Member Posts: 5
I had posted a few weeks ago about having a water leak into the trunk. It appears that after numerous tries, the tech has located the source -- a seam in the body that was not sealed properly in production.

THE GOOD NEWS FOR OTHER CONVERTIBLE OWNERS -- based on our research, this appears to be an isolated case. There have been no other leaks of this sort reported in GM TAC cases, and none in the preliminary issues section of TAC either.

As to how my situation is going to be resolved ... that's still to be determined. I still love the car, but ...

Assuming we can get this resolved satisfactorily, I can't wait until warmer weather returns in the Midwest so that I can take the top down again.

And being from Indy I have to add ... GO COLTS!! :)

I have found that as the outside temperature drops I the number of rattles and squeaks increases. After the daytime high dropped below 50 degrees I began hearing a squeaking sound over my left shoulder. Not a very loud squeak but the car is otherwise very quiet and the little noises nerve racking. Now that winter has`finally arrived in the lower northeast, twenty to thirty degrees, I hear a loud rattle over my left shoulder whenever I hit bumps in the road> I was wondering if anyone else has been having similar experiences and had any luck getting rid of them. Love the car otherwise, great looking and rides nice.
  • sobeg6sobeg6 Member Posts: 50
Funny you should mentions the rattle over your left shoulder. Just this last week when the music is low, I hear (only on city bumpy streets) somethig rattling in the same area. I checked the seat belt holder the back seat belts but cant figure it out. I'm thinking its in the door as the door is very long???? not sure but don't like it! let me knowif u figure it out and i'll do the same.
  • stevensorianostevensoriano Member Posts: 40
I don't know if it is temperature sensitive, but I noticed the headrests have some play in them, and rattle a bit on rough roads. What can I do to take the slop out of the headrest support rods?

Otherwise, I love my G35 Convertible.

After taking in my car for a squek in the passenger & driver windows they re-adjusted the roof lining and lubed the windows. While this made the squeek go away, I think they missed a latch when adjusting the roof lining on the driver side. I got a rattle in the roof by the driver side rear seat (over my left shoulder) whenever I hit a bump. I had that into the dealer last week and the fixed it... however, now I have a clicking sound from the roof just at the front of the driver side window when I hit a bump! I'm hoping this one might be noise sensative as it's been extremely cold here in MI lately (high of 6 degrees today). I figure I'll give it a few weeks before I risk having the dealer mess with the roof again.
  • jack15jack15 Member Posts: 25
I have the same issue with the rattling on the Drivers side only. I believe it is in the door, or possibly in the panel just to the rear of it. The dealership thought it may be something in the roof, but the sound was still there when the roof was in the trunk. I scheduled an appointment for a few days later. As luck would have it....... the day I brought it in to be diagnosed and repaired, the sound went into temporary hiding, so I decided to leave well enough alone for awhile. Its been back ever since, especially as its colder up here in Boston. I will stay in touch on this board to see if someone can get it figured out.

Also, I have the 3.9. Do mostly city driving and I am getting, it says, 15+ MPG. This last full tank will be lucky if it gets 200 miles out of it before fillup. 200 divided by 16 gallons is just 12.5 MPG. Is anyone else getting these results?
    Thank You.

    Hi:

I have noticed that when the weather is really cold I hear all sorts of noises on the drivers side.

When the car warms up the noises go away for the most part.

I think the cold weather is somehow affecting the latches on the top. I didn't hear any of these noises until the weather changed from fall to winter.

I don't know if it's worth it to take my car in to get it looked at or I should wait until April to see if the noises go away completly when the weather changes.

Also- I have been getting 20MPG with my G6 convertible (GT) driving 48 miles a day (mostly highway miles). I would like to get 22MPG.

Has anyone used one of those K and A air filters? It's suppsed to increase MPG 1-2 miles. I'm trying to see if it's worth it to install one in my car.

    Thanks for the help

    Kevin
  • shouldbeworkinshouldbeworkin Member Posts: 26
Don't waste your time any money on any of the gimmicks promising to improve your mileage. If a different airfilter could bump your mileage by 10%, GM would have them factory installed in a heartbeat.

As far as my mileage, I have a 3.9 and drive about 1/2 freeway & 1/2 city to get ~17.5 MPG.
  • shouldbeworkinshouldbeworkin Member Posts: 26
"Also, I have the 3.9. Do mostly city driving and I am getting, it says, 15+ MPG. This last full tank will be lucky if it gets 200 miles out of it before fillup. 200 divided by 16 gallons is just 12.5 MPG. Is anyone else getting these results?"

I've also got the 3.9, and my info center has been reporting around 17MPG lately. I was at 213 miles from my last fill-up and just put in 14 gallons this morning to refill. Doing the math, that's 15.2MPG. I live in Michigan & have been enjoying the remote start feature a lot during the recent cold spell. I'm thinking that the on-board computer must not use remote start gas usage in figuring the MPG. If I burned 1.5 gallons in remote start time, then getting 213 miles on 12.5 gallons would match with what the info center reports.

Does anybody not use remote start? Does your mileage match with what's reported by the vehicle?
  • shouldbeworkinshouldbeworkin Member Posts: 26
My Stabilitrak warning light has been coming on lately (~20% of the time) when I start the vehicle. This is the indicator that the Stabilitrak isn't operational. Usually this kind of fault is the result of the various sensors not properly reporting at vehicle start-up, and therefor the system is automatically disabled.

My warning light turns off after about 5 minutes - I'm assuming the system rechecks input signals at a regular period and receives the appropriate data allowing the system to turn back on. This all started when the cold weather hit Michigan a few weeks ago. I'm hoping the issue goes away as things warm-up, otherwise it'll be another trip to the dealership. :(

Anybody else living in cold climates have this problem? Anybody in warm climates seen this issue?

    Thanks.
  • bxdbxd Member Posts: 186
The bitter cold we've been having across much of the country till now really takes its toll on gas mileage. The engine runs richer, longer. That's even before you use remote start (which uses less gas than most people think).

You should see an improvement as the weather improves.
  • bxdbxd Member Posts: 186
Let me give you guys a general idea of how much gas you use by remote starting...

Let's assume 25mpg in highway driving.... that means at 60mph a gallon is burned every 25 minutes.

So *IF* your engine was working as hard idling as it does going down the highway you'd use 0.4 gallons in 10 minutes of idling (i'm going to stick to 10 minute remote start length to keep things simple).

BUT IT DOESN'T work that hard.

First - Your RPMs at idle are typically 1/3 of highway RPMs. 1/3 of 0.4 is 0.13 gallons in 10 minutes.

Second - Throttle position is much lower (low engine load - less fuel injector duty). I don't have any actual data on this point but I think I am being very conservative when I say that idling is 1/2 the load of going down the highway (it's probably MUCH less).

But let's just say 1/2... which means 0.065 gallons used in 10 minutes.

0.065 gallons at $2.50 per gallon equals 16 CENTS to run the car in remote start.

Hopefully that gives everyone some numbers to think about.

Hi, Miami Beach here. Use the auto start everyday as I leave the elevator bank and walk towards the car. I'm averaging about 18.5 19 miles per gallon, that is a bit of city driving and high speed I95 driving. Hope that helps.

Anyone getting rattling somewhere on drivers side back maybe behind plastic panel under rear window? sounds like metal of some sort and happens every time I go over road imperfections.
  • gmerilligmerilli Member Posts: 25
Mine also does this on extremely cold days(sub 20 degrees). It seems to take anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes before the indicator goes out.
  • gmerilligmerilli Member Posts: 25
I am in the northeast. I heavily use the remote start and I get the same results as you. I have a 10 minute commute and I heat up the car 15 minutes each morning.

    A couple of comments:

    1) If you're considering the K&A or similar air filters, be sure to research them thoroughly and ask around on various user forums. These filters contain some oil and that can affect the amount of air flowing through the filter with the end result that the mass air flow sensor may get confused when the air flow is outside of it's expected parameters. Just be sure to do your homework before investing your hard-earned bucks.

    2) I use the remote start almost everyday and love it! HOWEVER inquiring minds want to know ... especially those of us who have been shivering in sub-zero temps and where the snow is just starting to melt ... why on earth is the person in Miami using it every day?? :D

    3) I always suffered from spring fever about this time of year, but I must say that the combination of the recent severe weather and owning a convertible for the first time in my life have made the symptoms much more severe this year ... a condition I'm calling CONVERTIBLE FEVER!!! Come on, Spring!!
  • sobeg6sobeg6 Member Posts: 50
LOL, I'm the one in Miami that uses the remote start everyday! Reason being, like most of us in life running around in a rush most of time, I feel starting the car before i get into it, is allowing the engine to run a few seconds before throwing her in driving and going on my way! When I lived up North I did what you guys are doing. Always started the car 10 minutes before heading out. Stay warm! PS- just came in from down-town miami to my home on Miami Beach, top down and 70 degrees with not sign of humidity! hate to rub it in but, it did feel good :shades:
