This has got to be the best endorsement for me since I'm returning my TL and considering the G6 convertible. Thanks.
I was unimpressed with the sound system, but that was sitting in the dealers only G6 which I do not recall if it had the "Monsoon" label. Maybe it didn't.
I'm going to test drive one tomorrow. When I was there last week I got handed off to three different people all trying to get me to buy one right then and there. Finally the manager came out and offered me a $1500 cash out of pocket (mostly fees) and $420 a month for a 36 month lease. He then offered me to roll my last 4 Acura TL payments into the lease for no extra money. Must be some wiggle room there. Of course there was no real incentive to get the car now just to keep the top up through January and February. I thought they weren't going to let me leave. I promised him I'd return. I need one on March 15th when my Acura lease is up.
You people are really convincing me to get this car. Lets see what I think of the test drive. I'll let you know.

(ask your salesperson about the $1,000 Conquest dollars)
For an extra $200 I can pry off the Pontiac badges and glue on some Infiniti G35 Convertible ones they sell on Ebay.
Then, for $30,200 I have a $50,000 car!
MSRP 32,250

Anyone out there care to share gas mileage stories on the 3.9 that comes with this car ?
I have been getting around 19 mpg with the basic g6 convertible and thats with 85% highway miles. In my opinion they are totally misleading the miles per gallon with this car.
I am hoping that after my first oil change (I have 4500 miles right now) the milage will come up slightly to the 22 range.
Has anyone's mileagle increased after their first oil change?
Kevin
That no longer matters to me though, as I finally decided to spend just a little more and go with the VW Eos! Am I glad I made that decision. Good luck to you on yours.
As far as the 3.9 getting "improved" economy for 2007, that's because the engine gained Active Fuel Management I believe. It can run in 3 cylinder mode when engine loads are low, thus saving gas. It's a great tech, and if it made it into the G6 like I think it did, that explains the bump in economy. 3.5 doesn't have this, not yet anyway.
What kind of deal did you get ?
Anyway, we've run into two issues and are curious if anyone else has had the same or similar problems.
1) After the windows fogged on the inside several times, we discovered water in the trunk. After 2 tries by the dealer, it appears to be fixed ... at least for the time being.
2) Opening the door with frost or minor frozen water in the seal between the windows (enough to tug just a bit on the door) causes an air leak between the windows. The first time happened a few days before the appointment for the water leak, so they fixed both at once. It happened again this morning, although I haven't yet had a chance to call the dealer.
Have any of you had similar experiences?
Thanks.
The higher end plans cover the top.
I just pulled out my paperwork for the extended warranty I purchased for my G6 convertible. On page 3 of my contract it states the following
“When the GOLD coverage plan box has been checked on the information Schedule, only the following parts, in addition to the parts listed under the SILVER coverage are covered. Parts that are not listed are not covered.”
Section 11 Additional Parts- .CONVERTIBLE TOP MOTOR, POWER SUN ROOF MOTOR.
“When the PLATINUM coverage has been check on the information schedule we will remedy ANY BREAKDOWN of your vehicle except those items listed under the section titled “What this service plan does not cover.” (the hardtop is not listed in this section)
I think we should be covered with a Gold or Platinum coverage plan. I have the Platinum plan so I hope I’m ok when/if my top goes bad
msrp $32250... liquid silver with black leather
39 mo lease 12k miles $320 per mo. incl NJ tax and reg TOTAL out of pocket $1091. $2986. off sticker plus $750 rebate plus $1000 conquest rebate (for owning non GM product) These cars were $600 a month when they first came out and then went "on sale" to around $450 per month!!
Best time to buy a convertible is the winter!!
Dealers have many in stock and should be willing to deal.
Car is OK, looks neat with top up or down... talked to a VW dealer regarding EOS... no discount and lease #'s in the mid $500 range... NO THANKS
After sitting in the Redline, my head touched the roof, there was no shoulder room, and there was no storage, I told the salesman that he could keep the Redline....I wouldn't do the trade Straight Up, much less with $9k of boot.
If you have a G6 Convertible you understand. It is a very underrated car. Sure, the plastic dash is ugly, but the Sky Redline was just as low end, but with more engine, and less room.
Again, I am happy with my G6
"Redline" - almost every Saturn model has a top of the line performance package, called their Redline. They also have hybrid trim levels which they are calling Greenline.
I also swapped out the black grills for the silver and the lower black ugly grills around the fog lights with the body colored grill. amazing how it changes the look! Well you all enjoy your vehicles! Ciao:)
THE GOOD NEWS FOR OTHER CONVERTIBLE OWNERS -- based on our research, this appears to be an isolated case. There have been no other leaks of this sort reported in GM TAC cases, and none in the preliminary issues section of TAC either.
As to how my situation is going to be resolved ... that's still to be determined. I still love the car, but ...
Assuming we can get this resolved satisfactorily, I can't wait until warmer weather returns in the Midwest so that I can take the top down again.
And being from Indy I have to add ... GO COLTS!!
Sounds sweet! Are those changes options through the dealership or aftermarket?
Otherwise, I love my G35 Convertible.
Also, I have the 3.9. Do mostly city driving and I am getting, it says, 15+ MPG. This last full tank will be lucky if it gets 200 miles out of it before fillup. 200 divided by 16 gallons is just 12.5 MPG. Is anyone else getting these results?
Thank You.
I am also interested in taking a look at this option. Please let me know if you hear anything.
I have noticed that when the weather is really cold I hear all sorts of noises on the drivers side.
When the car warms up the noises go away for the most part.
I think the cold weather is somehow affecting the latches on the top. I didn't hear any of these noises until the weather changed from fall to winter.
I don't know if it's worth it to take my car in to get it looked at or I should wait until April to see if the noises go away completly when the weather changes.
Also- I have been getting 20MPG with my G6 convertible (GT) driving 48 miles a day (mostly highway miles). I would like to get 22MPG.
Has anyone used one of those K and A air filters? It's suppsed to increase MPG 1-2 miles. I'm trying to see if it's worth it to install one in my car.
Thanks for the help
Kevin
As far as my mileage, I have a 3.9 and drive about 1/2 freeway & 1/2 city to get ~17.5 MPG.
I've also got the 3.9, and my info center has been reporting around 17MPG lately. I was at 213 miles from my last fill-up and just put in 14 gallons this morning to refill. Doing the math, that's 15.2MPG. I live in Michigan & have been enjoying the remote start feature a lot during the recent cold spell. I'm thinking that the on-board computer must not use remote start gas usage in figuring the MPG. If I burned 1.5 gallons in remote start time, then getting 213 miles on 12.5 gallons would match with what the info center reports.
Does anybody not use remote start? Does your mileage match with what's reported by the vehicle?
My warning light turns off after about 5 minutes - I'm assuming the system rechecks input signals at a regular period and receives the appropriate data allowing the system to turn back on. This all started when the cold weather hit Michigan a few weeks ago. I'm hoping the issue goes away as things warm-up, otherwise it'll be another trip to the dealership.
Anybody else living in cold climates have this problem? Anybody in warm climates seen this issue?
Thanks.
You should see an improvement as the weather improves.
Let's assume 25mpg in highway driving.... that means at 60mph a gallon is burned every 25 minutes.
So *IF* your engine was working as hard idling as it does going down the highway you'd use 0.4 gallons in 10 minutes of idling (i'm going to stick to 10 minute remote start length to keep things simple).
BUT IT DOESN'T work that hard.
First - Your RPMs at idle are typically 1/3 of highway RPMs. 1/3 of 0.4 is 0.13 gallons in 10 minutes.
Second - Throttle position is much lower (low engine load - less fuel injector duty). I don't have any actual data on this point but I think I am being very conservative when I say that idling is 1/2 the load of going down the highway (it's probably MUCH less).
But let's just say 1/2... which means 0.065 gallons used in 10 minutes.
0.065 gallons at $2.50 per gallon equals 16 CENTS to run the car in remote start.
Hopefully that gives everyone some numbers to think about.
Brian
Anyone getting rattling somewhere on drivers side back maybe behind plastic panel under rear window? sounds like metal of some sort and happens every time I go over road imperfections.
1) If you're considering the K&A or similar air filters, be sure to research them thoroughly and ask around on various user forums. These filters contain some oil and that can affect the amount of air flowing through the filter with the end result that the mass air flow sensor may get confused when the air flow is outside of it's expected parameters. Just be sure to do your homework before investing your hard-earned bucks.
2) I use the remote start almost everyday and love it! HOWEVER inquiring minds want to know ... especially those of us who have been shivering in sub-zero temps and where the snow is just starting to melt ... why on earth is the person in Miami using it every day??
3) I always suffered from spring fever about this time of year, but I must say that the combination of the recent severe weather and owning a convertible for the first time in my life have made the symptoms much more severe this year ... a condition I'm calling CONVERTIBLE FEVER!!! Come on, Spring!!
