Tomorrow morning I will be visting Steven's Creek Lexus for my wife's IS250. When we first laid eyes on the Glacier Frost Mica, We fell in love.
Enough with the BS, the price is $33,800.
I hope they can follow through with the deal; else I will visit Concord Lexus for $34,000.
Have any of you purchased the Service Warranty? How does it work? I do not understand how they calculate those amounts.
Also, Have any of you considered the 3M CLear Bra? I hear it works great to prevent rock chips. I'm not too sure what places are authorized to install this type of film.
Well anyway, I'll update you guys with the progess.
Take care!
I went to a Socal dealership (glendale lexus)
2007 IS250 w/nav and Premium (breakwater blue metallic)
for 38,800 OTD.
good deal or not?
My folks got a terrific deal on an ES a couple of years ago at Putnam (Stevens Creek wasn't even close so there wasn't much back and forth with them). They went back once or twice but stood firm on an OTD price. Didn't care about the invoice they were claiming, just named what he was willing to pay. Ended up paying at least $3k lower OTD than they were initially demanding. The MSRP was like $38k but they paid $33k OTD.
So they went back next year to see what they could get for an RX330 and Putnam would not budge. It was relatively new at the time but it wasn't setting the world on fire in terms of sales.
$34,000 Plus fees. Fees were about .093, or 9.3%.
$38,800 OTD? I would say No.
I paid about $37,400 OTD. Nearly $1,400 less then your offer.
Must be a dealership policy not to disclose pricing unless the customer is in the door. I submitted an internet quote request to several local dealerships (Pohanka, Silver Spring, and Lindsay) a few weeks back. A Lindsay employee responded and I assumed he was the internet manager. I suggested a starting point for negotiations ($500 over invoice). His emailed response was simply 1 word: "Pass". I responded by not responding.
Wouldn't you know it that just yesterday the same sales rep emailed me back inquiring as to whether or not I purchased yet. I went to the dealer's website and found this individual to be a sales consultant and not the internet manager. My guess is that the end of month/model year pressure is building and sales reps are looking at old leads to try to secure a deal.
I am going to try to bypass the sales rep who wrote me off earlier and contact the real internet sales mgr directly next week. My concern is that the selection will be extremely limited.
In any case, I appreciate your response and congratulate you your purchase.
what dealership did you go to in NorCal? I need to get me a deal like that. We tried to negotiate at 37,100 and they wouldn't budge....I guess NorCal people are getting a better deal.
$34K plus fees.
I was suppose to visit him at Concord Lexus but I bailed out last minute becuase my wife liked the color they had at Steven's Creek. Steven's Creek matched the offer so we got it there instead. So yeah.. keep it hush and act like i didn't buy it yet. LOL.
Goodluck!
Nothing personal revangel but how do you know things just didn't fall right for you and you caught the dealer when they were ready to deal?
===end===
hmmm... interesting comment.
well, here's how i'm reading your comment. so, the GM somehow wakes up the morning i'm toying with the idea of buying a car and he says to himself, 'today, not yesterday, and not tomorrow, is the day i sell an IS250 for $500 over invoice'. then my sales guy knocks on his door that afternoon and says, 'yo, i got this dude on the phone who wants to buy this car for $500 over invoice, what do u say?' then the GM says, 'yea, i'm down.'
what you're suggesting is that the "stars lined up" for me to be able to make the deal that i did. moreover, that no further effort on my behalf, and none of the research that i did, nor the extremely useful information from this forum, actually made this happen for me. he was just "down" with it that day. i didn't have to do much. it could have been anybody and it just happened to be >me<. i disagree.
i will tell you this. had i not reviewed this forum, and used this site to gather more information i could easily have been one of the "shafted" guys we're all laughing about now.
'knowledge is power.' why did the steven's creek sales guy start getting nervous when he saw me pull out my edmunds.com 'invoice quote'? (you may ask, how the heck did you know he was nervous? i have a knack for this and all i can say is trust me.) when i said to him, 'well your numbers doesn't add up to what i have here.' (my wife and i slowly spread three sheets of edmunds.com research). without looking, he immediately comments that those figures aren't always accurate. and i ask without further argument, 'okay, so what's the right figure?'
the point is, i have a figure that is close enough. it may not be accurate but it is 'close enough.' actually, more than just close enough, it is 'powerful' enough to have him pull out what the invoice price is and show it to me. did the 'stars line up' or was it something more 'tangible'?
anyway, before i dig deeper into some random tangent the point that i am making is that this is no coincidence. anyone can do what i did. you just have to empower yourselves with information.
your folks got a 'terrific deal' not because they caught the Putnam dealership when they were 'ready to deal'. they got the deal because they "stood firm" on their OTD price. believe it or not, that is key---standing firm. how they ended up paying $3K lower than they initially asked for is beyond me. at the beginning of my transaction i asked Steven's Creek for $1K over invoice---how did i end up with $500 over invoice instead??
the problem with consumers is that we are easily intimidated by the dealers. we feel powerless. when you leave with your new car, you know you could have done better, but you didn't. and most of us would simply rollover and say 'oh well, those bastards are crooks anyway.' they're not crooks. and however 'greedy' and evil you see these people they are human beings just like you and me. in short, they can and they will break. treating them with respect *and* empowering yourself with information gives you a great deal of advantage.
always remember this one last point---WHO HAS THE MONEY?? *YOU* (the consumer). what does that mean? YOU ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN THEY BECAUSE YOU ARE THE ONE BUYING. so STOP being scared. if they don't want to take your money someone else will!
this should be my last post. this forum has been a great resource. i know i saved a lot of money. i could care less about the exact figure. it just feels good to know that i did.
i don't know who to thank. i just hope that by me sharing my experience is a way of 'paying back (or forward).'
ENJOY YOUR IS2/350 EVERYONE!!
I am lookin to get the 3M Clear Bra and 3M Tint all around for the IS250. It is on a special at KINGTINT for $699.99 or $799.99.
Also I am lookin forward to the OEM Lip spoiler for the trunk. It comes painted from Lexus. Currently seen on ebay for about $200.00 shipped.
revangel, do you got instant messaging? maybe we can chat sometime about our IS250.
btw, did you know there is a manual OVERRIDE for the navi? It only works for the 2006. It allows the user to use the navi while the car is in motion. Let me know. I'll share it with you!
Thank you revangel! Your the best!
If you can break down dealers that well, maybe people should hire you to negotiate car deals for them. Some people might be willing to pay $250 or so if you can get them a $500 over invoice price (with no bogus fees added in by the dealer) on hot cars.
I dealed my 2007 IS250 to a good deal. Most dealers laughed at the price of $34K but I was able to narrow down to two of them. Stevens Creek and Concord.
For the most part, I think it merely depends on the dealership and monthly quotas.
I've noticed that for the most part, towards the end of the month, they are more flexible with the pricing.
I followed revangle's advice about profiling and making a deal over the phone. I'd must say, it works! I got my deal over the phone. All i did today was test drive the car and wait to sign the documents. I was in-n-out within 2.5 hrs (including the walk through of all features for the car).
wco81, I am certain you can do it too! Be professional when you speak to them and you should do well.
Goodluck with your purchase!
I've been offered $32,885 on a 2007 IS250 AWD w/ HID, including preferred package (wheel locks, cargo net, mats), not including destination charge.
I believe MSRP on this is $35,947 (=$34,875+$875+$197), and invoice by my estimation is $31,650 (=$30,758 plus approx 80% of $875+$197). So about $1,300 above invoice and $3,000 below MSRP.
Not as good as istundra's deal I know...but it's the best I could negotiate across 4 dealerships. Do you think its a good deal? Many thanks.
did yours have HID lights on it?
Is yours a IS250 AWD Only? No Navi?
My deal was OK. Was not such a great deal but it was certainly a good deal.
What is it at invoicE? Did you negotiate over the phone?
I paid about $700 above invoice for my IS250 w/ Navi and Premium Plus pack.
$34000 + Fees
=
$37,142.XX OTD.
No perma plate or extended warranty.
Got another offer from another dealer (newport lexus, Southern California) and they wanted 34,729 before tax and license. Good deal or deal down some more ?
Anyone know the invoice price for this particular package?
istundra,
Was your IS250 a RWD or AWD???
Yes, that's true they all come with the HID/AFS lights. However, am I correct in thinking that the 34,285 base MSRP for the 250 AWD does not include HID/AFS (and likewise the 31425 sticker on the RWD is w/o HID/AFS)? I believe I saw somewhere the HID is another $875 sticker. If anyone knows if this is true or not please let me know.
And yes, my offer was AWD only, no Navi. I guess it's not so good then? Honestly I think the $700 over invoice that you got is excellent for a model that's not even out yet. Though there is a regional factor to consider. Anyhow, I did negotiate over phone...haven't seen invoice sheet yet, the invoice prices I quoted are only my guesses based on expected markup.
Thanks everyone -
Color: Glacier Frost Mica
I think we have the same package.
I am sure they can give you better then 34,729.
What was the MSRP? Mine was 37,647 or something like that.
goodluck!
My question is..how much of a deal do you think she could get on the IS, after considering all the other purchases? Will it be a major factor or just a small one? I have no idea how dealers consider prior purchases when negotiating.
thanks
.00265 sounds pretty good, I'm surprised there is such a big difference between dealers.
Where were these dealerships? Which one offered which MF? Thanks.
Credit score of above 730 is Tier 1 I believe.
kgk3
2007 IS250 Auto, RWD
Preferred Pkg.
Premium Pkg.
Navi
HID Bi-Xenon Headlight
Spoiler
18" Wheels
MSRP $38,002 including dest.
Negotiated price $34,000 including dest. excluding tax and license
OTD $36,978.24
I initially started out looking at the 2006 and negotiated the price over the phone for it. My negotiated price including dest. was $1200 over invoice. When I got there they only had the one I wanted in the 2007. Unfortunately there is no invoice data for it out yet so I just had to wing it on my price. I'm hoping I stayed around the same markup of $1200 over invoice. My only complaint is that I wanted the XM radio and not the spoiler which is what I negotiated over the phone. I'm happy with the deal but I'm still in the dark on how good a deal I got until the invoice pricing is posted.
I just wasn't sold enough on the car to bother.
For most of the past year, it seemed you could get more of a discount, with the equipment you wanted (like HID which was a conspicuously missing feature on the IS) on the BMW 3-Series.
2007 seem to have better equipped cars. But I would bet tht for the 2008 model year, they increase the horsepower of the IS250 at least because the competition is boosting the performance.
I was wondering did you negotiate the price over the phone with a internet manager because I'm looking to drive over there since Glendale Lexus didn't give me a great deal.
I had actually talked to a salesman when I was at the dealership so I just thought I'd work with him. I went home and calculated the invoice price of the car I wanted with the options I wanted (I made sure they had a car with the options I wanted first). I then faxed over to the salesman a detailed sheet of the car with options and the price I would pay. I told them I would be faxing this offer to every other dealership in So Cal. He called me right away and said they could make that deal. My offer was for about $1200-1300 over invoice including destination charge. Of course this was for the 2006 not the 2007 which I eventually ended up getting.
Hope that helps.
51 more horsepower, and more torque
faster 0 - 60 time
2 full inches of front leg room - that's quite a bit

Direct injection
Heated and ventilated seats
Smart Access standard - no fuss with keys
Std. homelink
paddle shifters on wheel like formula racing cars
safer - with more airbags, plus they are impact sensitive
Thanks!

Go to Internet Manager and get your deals from him. He gave us the best deal out there and I got everything I wanted in my car. This forum was a lot of help, thanks to chrisl91 and istundra for their advise.
You got the same color as me!
Well anyway, I just added a OEM spoiler from ebay. It came painted from Lexus. Only $185 shipped and 30 min install time. (Not recommended for the non-technically inclined).
Will also be tinting all windows with 3M film and 3M clear bra to the whole front end!
Hope you love ur car!
Take care,
istundra
Assuming you were leasing a car with a $600 payment, making an extra 9 security deposits ($5400), would net you a payment reduction of around $55 per month (rough estimate..will vary depending on your lease paramaters)..
An annual return of about 12% on your additional funds.
