Hi! In PA, looking to order a factory build of a 2018 C43 sedan, metallic, leather, advanced lighting pkg, night pkg, smartphone integration pkg, parking assist pkg, LED logo projector, heated & ventilated front seats (cold & warm weather pkgs). With destination fee the MSRP comes to $61,025. Dealer offer is $57,867 selling price with and wants $2000 upon ordering to come off of monies due at signing (estimated at ~$2100, which will be 1st payment + $895 bank acquisition fee + taxes + plates + doc fees). Considering this offer against one for an Audi S5, which we like about equally as much, and would like your opinion on this offer. Thanks!

Monthly was estimated at the time quote was given (using the MF and residual that were current at that time) for 15k miles/year 36 month lease as $838.50, which includes tax. In this county in PA, tax rate is 7% + 3% use tax. They explained that the MF and residual will change when the car is delivered from the faculty and the payments will be different based on what they are then. This is why I am focused at this time more on the other aspects of the deal, like the selling price of the car being offered, bank acquisition fee, etc. Thank you!

The one thing I would negotiate prior to ordering?
Ask them to guarantee the base money factor, in writing.
Also, the base acquisition fee (currently $795).

Otherwise, you are at their mercy, once "your" car shows up. No leverage then.

1) There is a base money factor. Dealers can mark it up higher for extra profit. You want a guarantee of the base (or buy) rate, at time of delivery.
2) Yes, ask for $795

You'll have to check with the dealer as to how the extra 15K miles would affect the residual.

It's possible. I like to insist on the base money factor, so I can at least compare pricing. Once we settle on the deal, if they want to adjust price down and money factor up to get the same payment, I don't care.

But, if I'm negotiating 10% off MSRP, assuming I'll get the base money factor, and they bump it, that ticks me off.

That is just a duplicate of the factory window sticker, not a lease worksheet.

We don’t track pricing – use the “make / model / year” tabs at the top of the page to link to the Edmunds price tools.

If they don't want to be up front with the numbers, it may be time to find another dealer to work with.

The residual is calculated off the MSRP.

The depreciation, however, is the difference between the negotiated price and the residual amount. The smaller that difference is, the lower your lease payment.

With the residual being calculated off MSRP, it's a fixed amount for each vehicle. After all, the vehicle is worth the same at lease end, no matter what price you negotiate.

This is to your advantage. If the residual were based off the selling price, you wouldn't realize all of the benefit from negotiating a lower price, as the residual would drop along with the price. With residual fixed, every dollar you negotiate lower, reduces depreciation, dollar for dollar, all dropping to your bottom line.

Hi- I have this quote based from Oregon, on a 2018 C43 Sedan. Does what they quoted me add up? It’s based on 0.00181 MF, which I know is marked up and I’ll have to negotiate that before I sign. I have been using the lease calculator at it’s not adding up to what they sent me. Not sure what I’m missing. When I add it up I get a $695 payment but they show $751. Thanks

No mention of the acquisition fee - $795 base, but dealers are known to mark it up to $1095.

And, find out what the "cash down" amount covers.

I get $781/mo with the prices shown, and the base MF. What adjusted cap cost are you using to get $695? What is the dealer using to get $751?

EDIT - don't negotiate the MF; simply tell them you won't sign a deal where the MF is inflated. They know what the base rate is.

Thank you for the information! I was using the edmunds lease calculator with a $65907 cap cost plus the $820 in fees and $44679 residual. I must be missing a calculation.

I’ll find out acq fee and what cash down covers.
