Congrats on the SRT you will love it! Don't worry about the 13 miles, I was standing next to the transport truck when they unloaded my friends and it had 16 miles from the factory.

The only option is a sunroof. I told the manger this when he got it from the other dealer. Anybody that would trade a SRT8 GC for a base PT already knew that this Jeep would be hard to sell.

Hey jeepvet hows your SRT coming?

    Steve:
The SRT8's don't come with a spare tire....are they supposed to come with a tire jack ? If so where's the blasted thing located?

Can anyone tell me how to decipher the VIN:
I'd like to know when it was build, the build number and anything else that may be told by the VIN: (1J8HR78336C241213).
    Thank You.....

Alas...the Hemi gods have not yet deemed me worthy...

I got a message today from my dealer (AFTER I sent him a message asking about it!) that NOW they think it'll be ready FRIDAY!

    SIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It appears that there was some alignment problem with the sunroof that they noticed, there was a bent part or something, so they ordered another part, and he thinks it'll be ready for pickup on friday now. I just can't believe this whole thing.

Thanks for the tips, some good info there - now I just hope I can remember it all on FRIDAY...HOPEFULLY FRIDAY!!!!!

    Argh.

Oh, and mine is black also - but ours will be out in the parking lot, since they'll have OTHER srt8's on the track for us to trash - ahem, I mean drive... maybe I'll just walk around saying "anyone here post on Edmunds?" :)

Boy, I can't believe this. I'm glad my wife already verified the vehicle is there. And I guess I'm glad they found this before I took it home - though I pray that the sunroof hasn't been leaking all this time......

And don't worry, I do plan to honor the breakin period...since it's only 300 miles...though my philosophy is usually to break it in the way it's going to be driven!! :) But I'll wait this time, I think.

I am wondering about the attention factor, do people really notice that it's something different? I have yet to see one on the road myself, believe it or not!!

I figured at least when I'm blowing away those kids in the mustang gt's that they'll notice... :)

good tip on the tire pressure, I'll take a gauge with me - what pressure should they be set to? Are the fronts the same as the rears?

Also, for the benefit of anyone else reading this, I'll add a tip of my own - take cd's with you, pre-recorded and homemade (and maybe mp3 too), to make sure the cd player works...probably true for dvd's too, for those that get a dvd player.

If you want a detailed build sheet email the webmaster at WKJeeps.com. I can tell you that it was built on March 20, 2006.

The SRT8's don't come with a spare tire....

lol, no spare? You guys never talk about run-flats so I just assumed that the SR8 had a spare (and jack), even if the spare was a donut.

The recommended tire pressure should be on a placard on the door jam or in the glove box; the salesperson should be able to point it out to you.

The jack is in the rear, you'll see what look like 2 compartments. I forget which one it is but the jack should be in there. I brought it up to the local car show, there was about 500 cars, I had the only one there, parked it next to my friends 71 Challenger, young people come over and know exactly what it is, the rims def. stand out, the older crowd walks over wondering what a jeep is doing with it's hood open at a car show, look at the engine and go "damn". It's a nice feeling, I haven't really had anyone try to race me yet, I still have to get it tuned, I tryed to have it dynoed and was unsuccessful due to the traction control kicking on, so I ordered the torque management system from GSmotorsports which supposedly disables the traction control 100%. But the sound and power from the headers are amazing, what a difference. Good luck to those who are waiting.

If you have a GC SRT8 and you have a jack, you got a bonus from the factory. As stated above and per page 256 of the SRT8 owners manual, due to the run flat tires, the SRT8's are not equipped with a jack or spare

As for the attention factor, people notice that the SRT8 is different. The wheels really make it stand out, but the exhaust note turns heads.
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
Ron, I guarantee that we'll link up at MIS. There won't be that many black GC SRT8's there and I'm guessing that we'll be parked in the infield. We'll probably see each other on I-94 on the way.

My wife will be with me as a "non driver". She's already done the Skip Barber 3 day and neither of us thought it would be worth $500 to sign her up for this.

Once you finally get your SRT8, you will see that people will notice it on the street. They immediately see and hear that there is something different about it. Car guys (and gals) notice it even more and understand what it is.

The fact that you haven't seen one on the road yet should tell you that it will stand out. I've only seen two and one had manufacturer plates and test gear on it, so I'm fairly sure that it was from the Chelsea Proving Grounds.

I just got my first oil change at the dealer this morning (4,400 miles). It even gets special attention from the dealer personnel. Downside is $85 for an oil change.

Has anyone had an issue with their run-flat tires yet? Does your dealer carry a replacement in stock? Have you priced replacements?

There's at least two gripe discussions on Edmunds concerning run-flat tires on other vehicles.

I actually never looked for the jack in my truck, so I apologize if I was incorrect, however though if there is one, that's where it would be, so if someone's bored check it out and let me know. Thanks

I can't check your truck unless you bring it over, but I've been in those storage compartments in mine and (not surprisingly) there's no jack....and as you might imagine there's no spare hiding back there either.
  • 1finejeep1finejeep Member Posts: 29
The only jack that will be in the SRT8 is some guy named that, our a somebody being a JACK [non-permissible content removed]. If you look in the "jack box" it is just as empty as the other. Good luck and hope your muffler bearing doesn't go out! 8-)

I have a 2006 srt8 with all of the options. I have been having some issues with it after it sits for a few days like 2 or 3. It is dead! So far it has been back to the dealer 4 times for the same problem. First they replaced the battery, second time back they replaced the alternator.
third they said they had to reprogram the computer and now it is back at the dealer again. And they can't figure it out! It just goes dead after sitting for two or three days. I have been in contact with the regional people and I'm waiting to hear back from them needless to say I only have like 300 miles on my truck and 200 of those miles have been trips to the dealership after having to jump it to get it there. Can I get some advice here?
    Bill
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
Bill, I remember your post of this problem from a couple of weeks ago and I can't believe that they haven't figured out what is draining your battery. DCX should be all over this, especially on what is argueably a "halo" vehicle of theirs. I wish I could give you some helpful advice, but the hard to diagnose, repetitive problems are where most of the manufacturers fail miserably in working with their customers.

    Good luck with it.

I’m interested in making a few modifications to my 3 week old 2006 Silver JGC SRT8. I’d like some input from our SRT8 community on availability that may be known by those of you who’ve had your rockets for the past 6 months.
    1. Cold Air Intake System (suggested manufactures)
    2. Electronic Cutouts placed before the Catalytic Converter
    3. Hypertec Type ECM Re-Programming device

Well, looks like tomorrow's the day! But, I'll believe it when I'm driving it out of the dealer's lot.......
The dealer did confirm today that it'll be ready tomorrow. Come 4:30pm, we'll see!!

    Can't wait...
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
    YeeeeeeHawwwwwwww!!

Of course, it'll be more fun when the break-in period is done...I'm trying to behave somewhat...but it's very cool! Love the sound.

Not much activity here lately - is everyone just out driving? I didn't get as many looks as I expected so far...maybe because I'm driving (somewhat) low-key?

Did you find the jack yet? ;)

    Congrats!

It was quiet here because we were holding our collective breath and keeping the channel open for news from you! Congratulations on finally getting your truck. Now wasn't it worth the wait?

Hey the good news with your delayed delivery is that you missed the spike in gas prices and they're down slightly from a month or two ago.

I think that you will find that it gets stronger (and you'll get better gas mileage) once you pass 1,000 miles. I suppose that it makes sense that would happen as the engine loosens up.

Don't forget to sign up for MIS in October.
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
I've looked all over that darn car for the jack, twice...in fact, I think I'm going to go look again right now...Then I'm getting right on the phone to my dealer, darn it!!! :D

    Thanks!!
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
hahaha - thanks for keeping the channel open! I want to say it was worth the wait, but frankly, THE WAIT SUCKED!!!!!!! Well, actually, it was still worth the wait. :D:D

Yeah, I was lucky that my first fillup was with premium at 2.98...I've heard the 1000 mile thing before, and am looking forward to that - though I hadn't heard that it also helped the mileage! Right now the car says I'm getting 14.8, but that's undoubtedly because I'm "behaving" (well, mostly......) during the break-in...which I should be done with tomorrow!!

I am signed up as of this morning, for the 20th! Looking forward to meeting you there!

And now 2 questions...I've looked in the manual, and I still have these questions...

    1. it mentions that you can "tap"(?) the turn signal, "if equipped", and it will signal 3 times and then turn off...darned if I can get it to do that! What am I doing wrong? I have every option (were there more than 3? been so long since I ordered it...) except for the dvd player and nav system, so I have to believe I'm "properly equipped"...help?

    2. I couldn't find this in the manual - there are 2 buttons on the rear-view mirror - "auto", and "off"...what do they do? something with the auto-dimming rear-view mirror? and what does the green light in the rear-view mirror indicate?

I'm guessing I'd find these answers in time, but I was hoping someone here could speed up the process for me...
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
    Ron,

You're getting better mileage than I did out of the box. My average was around 11 mpg. Now its running around 13-14 and I can get in the low 15's if I'm on the highway under 70. In answer to your questions:

    1. You can stop tapping the turn signal, because the GC SRT8 is "not equipped" with the tap function. I think they may be adding it in the 07's. I rented an 06 Dodge Magnum while I was waiting for my SRT8 and it had the tap feature. It was convenient and it's silly that the 06 SRT8 doesn't have it.

    2. There are four buttons on the rearview mirror. The two on the right are for the auto dimming feature and the two on the left are for what DCX calls "U-Connect" which is the "Bluetooth" wireless connectivity to your cell phone.

    Hope that helped.
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
It's only the second tank of gas, so I don't know how much I can trust the 14.8...but see, I said I was trying to be good! The first 100 miles or so showed avg about 7!

So the 2 buttons on the right - one turns it on and one turns it off? Seems silly to have 2 separate buttons? And those buttons definitely aren't mentioned in the manual, I looked today. Oh well. Love the U-connect, that's nice and working well.

Just wish the temp controls were digital - and finer gradations on the speedo would have been nice too. AND - why doesn't DECEL on the cruise do -1 mph per tap??? Accel does! wtf??? What kind of savings could they have gotten by not including that??

And boy, some power would have been nice... :D
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
Of the two mirror buttons on the right, the left one should be marked "Auto" and the far right one should be marked "Off". If you look up Mirrors in the SRT8 manual they take you to page 78 which only shows a the button version of the mirror which I'm guessing you get without the SRT Option Group I.

As you found, the left two buttons are for the "U-Connect" system. HOWEVER, if you try to look up "U-Connect" or "Bluetooth" in the manual index to see how to use it, you won't find anything. You have to look under "Cell Phone" which takes you to page 82 and there you will find the detailed explanation of "U-connect" and a photo of the mirror that you get with the SRT Option Group I package...which has two buttons for the auto-dimming feature.

The manual could probably use some "tweaking"

One thing that I wish they'd have done is to have put a less "chinzy" radio antenna on the car. I think that thing is crappy looking and right out of the 70's.

As for the lack of power, you might check to see if the emergency brake is engaged....
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
Has anyone experienced a high pitched and loud "whistling" or almost "whine" through the drivers side ventilation system in their GC SRT8 when you accelerate hard to 90+ with the air conditioning on?

This only seems to last for a few miles and can be stopped by slowing down (and who wants to do that?) or shutting off the ventilation system (no fun on a hot day). I usually get it under hard acceleration onto an expressway and it just started as the weather got warm and I was using the air conditioning.

It's a very loud and obvious noise, so if it happened to you, you'll know it.

I have been waiting for 2 months for my Black SRT8, and it will arrive next week. I have not seen one on the road yet, and very excited!
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
You're right, I did see that picture when I hooked up my u-connect, but of course there's no explanation of those buttons.

emergency brake - ha! good answer!

As for the antenna, I washed my car tonight for the first time, and I noticed that the antenna was loose!! I had to get a wrench to tighten it...check those antennas, new car owners!
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
Not I...and I had mine up to 90 and 120 in two separate (short) runs today - oops, wait, that wasn't me...ahem...a "friend" had his up to 90 and 120 today! Yeah, that's it! Anyway, with the a/c on, no noise was heard.

However, I am a little concerned about something I saw this evening...right before I washed my car, I went out for a little run, just a few miles, demoing for a neighbor...stepped on it a few times, etc. Then I get home, wait a little for the brakes to cool, and washed the car. It sat for at least an hour during the wash. Then, I pull it into the garage, and just as I'm pulling the key out, I see in the "evic" (I think they call it evic) "transmission temp high". Yeow!!! I'm hoping this is not the case by morning, of course, but has anyone seen this?? And I'm pretty sure it had sat for at least an hour, and I only ran it for 10 or 15 minutes, and it had sat for at least 2 hours before that!

    ??
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
This message could have been posted by me 2 weeks ago!! Of course, my wait was almost 3 months...and if this is the first time you've heard a delivery date, be suspicious! I heard 4 before I got mine...not trying to dampen you, just letting you know...

It's mega-fun once you get it, though!!
  • srt8cansrt8can Member Posts: 5
It shipped from the factory 10 days ago. How long was it from when your shipped?
  • blkhemiblkhemi Member Posts: 1,717
I had the message appear last month for the first time. I researched a bit, and it seems that this is a warning for us to back off a bit. My '01 and '05 JGC's both had a warning light in the IP. I think it should be applauded that DC would give us the heads up before destroying the tranny.

The day mine appeared, it got up to about 98 degrees, and I was running along at 100-110mph on a deserted strech of I-40 in AZ and it flaired up. When it first appeared, it was a bit startling. But once comforted by a Phoenix dealer, I was on my way back to OC without the problem reoccuring..
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
I've had to tighten my antenna twice as it keeps coming loose. It gets the job done with reception, but it really is a crappy arrangement and looks cheesy.

I have not had that warning on the trans temp. You suppose it was telling you that you were still in the break in period and to knock it off?

I just drove to my cottage in northern Michigan this afternoon. The good news is that I could blast around anyone that got in the way and there was nothing they could do and I made great time.

The bad news is that I barely made the 245 mile trip on one tank of gas. The warning message said I had "6 miles to empty", however when I filled it, it only took 18 gallons. There seems to be 2+ gallons hiding in reserve somewhere...but I'm not brave enough to test it.

I slapped a $500 deposit on a loaded, Red SRT 8 last week and am having second thoughts. I'm thinking, "how practical is this vehicle". Other options would be a the overland package or possibly heading down the road to a Chevy dealer for a 07 Tahoe.

Someone please convince me to buy this thing.
  • redsrtinjcredsrtinjc Member Posts: 2
The truck is practically impractical. If you're looking for practical, get a Commander.

If you're looking to impress the he|| out of everyone else on the road, get the red baby.
  • azsrtazsrt Member Posts: 21
I kinda agree with (redsrtinjc). My wife asked me how are we going to tow things. I asked her, what do we have to tow? We don't own a boat and before I attempt to tow anything, I'll just rent something that is meant to tow. The SRT8 is just flat out amazing. You can't make it out of a gas station or valet, without someone asking you about the Jeep. It's unique and the best way to look at is is, it's a very practical "sports car", because of all the "luggage space".
  • azsrtazsrt Member Posts: 21
I've recently added some pictures of my Silver SRT8 to Carspace.com To view the pictures, click on azsrt. I think the dark tint looks great. People can't see in and because I also tinted the windshield, you think it's being driven by a ghost rider! Personalized plates should be here within the next few weeks.
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
Mine said it was scheduled to ship from the factory on 5/18, I picked it up on 6/16...they held it back, apparently to fix a "flange" issue? Dealer said the exhaust wasn't lining up...don't know why it would take a month to fix...

check your sunroof too - dealer delayed my pickup by 2 days because he said the sunroof had a bent part and wasn't closing right or something...sure hope it wasn't sitting out in the rain leaking in that time......

and don't forget to check those tire pressures on delivery!
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
kec8 (are those initials, by the way?) - this was at 450 miles or so, so the break-in period was done...didn't see any problems today, and like I said, with the parked times I had, I was surprised to see that message then...I only drove it 25 feet into the garage!

I'll keep an eye on the antenna...but I'm still annoyed at the cruise...now I see that the light comes on when the cruise is ON, not when the cruise is ENGAGED...that's highly annoying!!

Ford's standard is the light comes on when it's engaged, and that makes more sense to me, maybe because that's what I grew up on - this is the first non-ford I've bought myself in my life...but they just didn't step up to the plate! Even the new shelby cobra looks slow...0-60 in 4.6, according to car&driver! for 500hp, that's pathetic!! We can even beat that! Sheesh.
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
Convince yourself that the practicality comes in that you can haul 4 people (plus yourself) and lots of stuff in the back, and still blow the vast majority of the rest of the cars off the road!...it's about fun, man!! This thing is fun as hell! Even when you're just cruising, that great engine sound plus knowing that at any time you could stomp on it is grin-inducing.

If you're at all a car guy, you need this vehicle...though I'd get black, myself... :) Oh wait, I *did* get black... :)
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
Correct on the initials. I pretty much never use cruise control, so I haven't noticed any issues with that. I have noticed that every car manufacturer seems to use their own system for on/off/engaged buttons and lights. Too bad there isn't a standard.

One comment on an earlier posting from Sandman4 about "practicality" of the GC SRT8. If anyone truly wants to pull a trailer, than this is the wrong vehicle to purchase. If that is part of the criteria, I'd recommend a GC Overland or something else. This is a 4 door, all wheel drive performance vehicle and if you purchase one thinking it's anything else, you are really going to be disappointed.

It has a hard suspension, gets bad fuel mileage and it's loud. However, if you want has neck snapping acceleration and eye popping braking in an AWD package at a reasonable price in a vehicle that you don't see on every corner than keep your money on deposit, because this is what you want.
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
Okay, the initials I'll find out later, does the "8" have a significance?

As for cruise - maybe that's why I'm seeing better mileage out of the gate... I use mostly freeway to/from work, so that helps the mileage...and using cruise helps me (somewhat) to "behave"...I'm on my 4th tank now, I believe, and last time I looked (I reset between every tank) the car said I was doing about 15.2 ...which isn't bad considering that includes some spirited driving! I'm just hoping it keeps up, or maybe(?) gets better?!?!

Total agreement with your comments about towing...car & driver had it all wrong, this car isn't about towing, and any towing you get out of it is just a bonus. Can you imagine forgetting you have that boat on the rear end and stomping on it to go after that mustang gt that just passed you???

In other news, I had a chance to experience the auto highbeams in use last night - very cool!! And very well behaved!

Anyone in Northern NJ with an SRT8? I have a red on in Jersey City (obviously), but have only seen one other in 4 months on Greenwich Street in Tribeca (NYC). Just curious as to where the 160 (according to wkjeeps.com) are.

    THE MEANING OF SRT4/SRT6/SRT8/SRT10

    STREET RACING TECHNOLOGY-SRT

THE NUMBER IS HOW MANY CYLINDERS
    NEON-4
    CROSSFIRE-6
    300&GRAND CHEROKEES-8
    VIPER & TRUCK-10

AND THAT IS HOW THEY GET THEIR NAME!
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
...er...I'm guessing that he probably knew that. He was asking about my initials, not the car.
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
    Of course, that's true! Thanks...

though you didn't say if the 8 does mean anything... :)
