I test drove an 06 Back in May, and then let the dealer know that I wanted an 07....the 06 I test drove was the only SRT-8 the dealer received. Well, he called me in July saying he was receiving an allocation for an 07 and asked if I still wanted it...Hell yes!

The 07's are just going into production now. THe dealers should know what their initial allocation will be...no doubt it will be tight, so all you can do is call around. I still have yet to see one in the Chicago area, although I know some are around. I think a few just put them in the garage....to look at. So, you dealer may be telling you the truth....but if you search, you will find one without getting ripped off....in the Chicago area, there are no GC SRT-8's sitting on the lots, so I laugh when I hear about EP on the 0-6's. It is a BEAST

I say go with the 06, unless the one the dealer can get you is not what you are looking for re: color, options. With employee pricing now, you can get it for a good deal. I just missed employee pricing by 7 weeks. It would have saved me over 4K. Employee pricing is your only chance to save $ on this vehicle. The dealers don't budge much on price with this one.

You can equip and price the 06 at jeep.com and the employee pricing discount will display for you. Build the one the dealer has to see the discount and decide from there.

I know this doesn't help you much with where you live, but Teterboro Chrysler Jeep in NJ has 4 in stock. 3 black, 1 red. Hop on a plane tonight, buy it and drive it home. Break in will be done by the time you reach home.

    I have 4,000 miles and 2 quarts.

What's up with the oil consumption in the GC SRT8? Is this normal? Finally taking an'06 out for a test drive on saturday, any advice? Thanks
  • jlandbljlandbl Member Posts: 9
My GC SRT8 has 2300 miles and the oil is still full. However, I wouldn't be surprised if I had to add some. Any car I've had that prefers synthetic oil did occasionally need oil added in between oil changes. I had a 1990 Chevy Beretta GTZ (Quad 4 HO) and a 2001 BMW 325i which occasionally needed oil. Both used Mobil 1. I'm not a mechanic, but if oil is needed after 1K miles something doesn't seem right. But if it needs it after 4K miles, then that seems normal to me. But what do I know. By the way, the GC SRT8 owners manual does say you can go 6K miles in between oil changes. I gotta believe if you decide to wait until 6K you will add oil at least once.
  • blkhemiblkhemi Member Posts: 1,717
I personally haven't experienced any loss of oil, altho Chrysler admits that the 6.1 can "lose a minimal amount of oil in it's life cycle". Some people with 300 SRT8/Charger SRT8's have also reported oil sludge build up on the cylinder walls with very little mileage. Well 5k miles, and mine is still pulling strong with nothing more than the first oil change already performed.
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
It's normal for a high performance engine like this to go through a quart or two of oil between changes. My M5 used to use a quart every couple of thousand miles and that was expensive oil that was only available from your friendly BMW dealer.

Jeep says that the SRT8 may use more in the first few thousand miles, which mine did. I used three quarts in the first 4k miles, but I had the oil changed at that point and now have over 7,000 and haven't used any oil since.
  • 2002svtf1502002svtf150 Member Posts: 30
Thus far my GC SRT8 has not used any oil. I check the oil at each fuel stop & changed it at 2950 miles, it was still exactly at the full mark. I now have 4500 miles & it has not moved from the full mark.
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
I'm glad to hear you're not using a quart every 1000 miles like you were, kec8...I was concerned about that! But, I had my oil changed at 1000, checked it at 2000, and it was still right on the full mark.

By the way, blkhemi - did you ever get a chance to get those pics up of your spoiler? I'm still hoping to see that!

    Hey guys and gals,
just thought i give you folks and update. I just bought a Jeep SRT8 in black and I pick it up in the morning. I paid 42680.00 out the door with every option. This employee pricing saved me about 4300.00 bucks. So if you want one, get it now. The '07's will be out in 1 month(SEPT 06). Thus the Employee pricing ends on 8-31-06. Dont miss out its the best time ever.
  • 28throw28throw Member Posts: 2
    Hey Guys and Gals,
If you price a jeep srt8 online you'll see that option group #1 shows navigation included. This is not the case at the dealer. 5 dealers in Charlotte, NC confirmed. The navigation is 1200.00 additional...... So overall 3160.00 for option 1, 1200.00 for Navigation, and 1200.00 for Informational/DVD player group. Add this to EP pricing of 36,154.00. Then add tax, tag and title. Even the options can be discounted a little if you know a manager at a dealership.
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
    28throw,

I priced mine out a number of times from Dec.thru March and I don't remember Navigation as ever being listed as part of Opt. group I. I just priced one out again at jeep.com and it still shows "DVD-based Navigation System" as a separate option under "Sound Systems". It does show Sirius satellite digital radio as part of Opt Group I. Are you sure that's not what you are thinking of? Were you using jeep.com?

Have fun with your SRT8. Let's just hope that no more oil fields go "off-line".

    Chrysler Financial.
  • megasrt8megasrt8 Member Posts: 37
The manual say 6k under normal driving conditions, but 3k under more extreme conditions (flip the book over). Extreme includes very hot/cold weather, lots of stop and go, or long highway trips at constant speeds.
So to be safe, i'd change it every 3k/3mos.
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
I'm taking the average and changing it at 4,500 miles.
  • butta_fabbutta_fab Member Posts: 6
Does anyone know the "break-in" needs for the SRT-8? I just ordered a 2007 and it should be here in March. BTW, the prices I see on some posts are pretty low. $41,000 with all option is a hell of a deal. I got mine for $44K at the 2006 prices and I didnt pay tax. (I live in Germany). How did you get those prices?

What's it like to drive in the states...? I cant see the point over there when you cant enjoy it. In Germany, the autobahn is unlimited and you can go as fast a you want.

cant wait to run into a Porshe.
  • upstatedocupstatedoc Member Posts: 710
I was quoted at 41,400 for the loaded 06' because it qualified for employee pricing. The salesman was quick to point out it saved me $4000. Decided against buying however due to probable $4.00 a gallon gas by fall. I know... I'm a wus...
  • kodiaktenkodiakten Member Posts: 7
To me this car is so fun to drive that the price of gas is minor. It’s part the cost of admission and more than worth it. You just can’t get this sort of enjoyment, for this sort of overall cost without paying a lot more (automotive or otherwise).

Haven't viewed this site in awhile, but wanted to let you all know that I saw the new 2007 steel Blue color on the road over the weekend. I live in AZ and have the Silver SRT8. I wasn't to surprised to see the jeep wearing Michigan plates. I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of the new color, the color seems to have Tammed the vehicle. My wife and I also ran into a black SRT8. For what we know, less then 10 have arrived in AZ. I had to get mine from Colorado. Good day
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
Steel Blue was available as a late 2006 color, but according to wkjeeps.com, only one steel blue 2006 has been confirmed to have been delivered at retail and that color was basically delayed until 2007. I agree that it's not a great color for the SRT8.

I'm about 10 miles from the Chrysler Chelsea, Michigan proving grounds, and I've seen a steel blue 2006 SRT8 test car on the road. The only way that I can think you would be able to tell the difference between an '06 and '07 from the outside is that the 2007's have the rear spoiler lip as a standard feature.

According to wkjeeps.com, there were 49 GC SRT8's delivered in Arizona and total USA production was 2,800. Here's the link with the state-by-state rundown if you are interested:

Kec8, from what have I have read, I thought it would have been the 2007 model based on the delays, maybe I saw the only retail 2006 Steel Blue SRT8? The year wasn't really the importance, it was the color. I didn't notice a rear spoiler?
I'm familiar with wkjeeps, but those numbers must be fluffed greatly on the number "ordered", not delivered. One dealership here in Arizona said they had 5 due in back in January, 4 which were pre-orders and 1 up for grabs. Only the 1 arrived and it was sold before they took the darn thing off the truck. I too pre-owned one back in Jan. Come April 30th when my lease was up on my Bimmer, I flew to Colorado to pick one up from a dealer who had received 5 and had one left. I bought that one, Got married in May, went on my honeymoon and didn't cancel my order until late June when they said they still haven't received a Build-date.

Some of the local dealers are still calling me to see if I was interested in purchasing the SRT8 because they are about to get one in within the next week...Doesn't matter now. I love my Jeep and whether there are less then 10 or 50, doesn't matter. People still don't know what it is, and the attention is amazing. Just hit 5,000 miles over the weekend and I swear she is getting faster!
  • loveipos1234loveipos1234 Member Posts: 15
The 07's are on hold pending resolution of a front Fascia problem....none have been delived as of yet, and full production will not begin until 9/1.

I like the Steel Blue, and I have the VIN for it....just wish I had it...but soon.
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
I agree that the SRT8 just gets faster...and the mileage gets better. I just hit 9,500 and I'm definately getting better mileage and it feels quicker than it did in the first few thousand miles. Not surprisingly there are a lot more of them in Michigan (around 250 according to wkjeeps), but they are still relatively rare and get attention.

My dealer sold one off the floor of the showroom a couple of weeks ago and the guy e-mailed him over the weekend and changed his mind prior to picking it up. I think the gas prices scared him.
  • blkhemiblkhemi Member Posts: 1,717
Is the party over? Or are we just enjoying our SRT8's a wee bit much?

Well the SRT just turned 8k miles and is still running like a champ. The lumpy idle has smoothen out, and the fuel mileage has increased 2/2, respectively, to the tune of about 17mpg combination.
  • asappasapp Member Posts: 9
Chryslar still can not figure out the problem. Chryslar has been extremely uncooperative in this matter. Does anyone have any suggestions outside of filing suit.
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
    What is the problem??

And it's funny, I was thinking of posting (since it's been quiet) and asking if anyone has had any problems with theirs? I turned over around 5200 miles recently, and I've been problem-free - thankfully! But, I have noticed (and this may have been from day 1) that my right exhaust is hanging about 1/2" lower then the left exhaust...anyone else?

I've also STILL only seen one other srt8 on the road, and that had a manufacturer plate!

Hey, blkhemi, did you ever get a chance to get that photo of your rear spoiler?? I'd really like to see that!

MY GRAND CHEROKEE SRT-8 IS ALL WHAT IT IS SUPPOSE TO BE BUT WHEN I TURNED 18K MILES { YES I DO DRIVE IT } MY BREMBO BRAKES WENT TO TOAST, ROTORS INCLUDED, AFTER FIGHTING WITH MY DEALERSHIP, I CALLED CHRYSLER DIRECT THEY FINALLY ACCEPTED THE FACT THAT THIS IS LIGHT MILEAGE { BREMBO ALSO AGREED TALK TO TODD } SO THE $ 1,000.00 YES $ 1,000.00 I DO NOT HAVE TO PAY. THEY ARE CALLING IT UNDER WARRANTY AND SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS WILL GENERATE A SERVICE BULLETIN OR NOT BUT BE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, HAVE YOU MECHANIC CHECK YOUR BRAKE AT THE 10K MILES SERVICE.

right around the time my jeep hit the 4k mark I noticed an OCCASIONAL slight vibration when accelerating between 35-50. I took the car in and i was told it was just normal, the jeep is wearing in and that these jeeps ride rough. After another few thousand miles the OCCASIONAL viberation becomes CONSTANT. I take the jeep back leave it for a week while in Chicago. Again I'm told they can't find any problems this is normal. Now the car grinds during any and all (10-100mhp) acceleration. The grinding has been so loud that other drivers notice. I take the head service guy for a ride and before we travel 1000 feet he says turn around "i"ll need the car for a week".

They spend the first week reprogamming the jeep, the second replacing the transfer case, weeks 3-5 test driving and talking to star. I get a call 2 Thursdays ago to come pick up my jeep i get there only to find out that they haven't been able to fix it and that they we bring it back in in 3wks when the hear back from star. Meanwhile, the jeep has increasingly gotten worse e.g. performance, vibration, road noise. Any help/advice in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

    Is this Jeep an SRT?
  • asappasapp Member Posts: 9
Yes sir this is ABSOLUTELY a silver SRT8 with the rear spoiler, chrome grill and chrome bug deflector. I've had it since Jan. I shared the some enjoyment and experiences as all of you until recently. One of the service guys told me "not to worry, Chryslar is in big trouble" because they had my car for over 30 days. He also stated they will have to give me an 07. The interesting thing is that once other dealers run my VIN they refuse to work on my jeep. Needless to say I can't properly express my anger and frustration.
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
Kind of ironic that you would ask that. Hey, blkhemi I've been trying to find a snow tire & wheel combo for my SRT8. Can you post some photos of "your SRT8" with the after-market black wheels that you said you had? I'd really love to see them.
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
asapp, thanks for the heads up. My trans has had some very minor anomalies since I got it (very minor vibration; BANG downshift when you nail it at highway speeds). I got mine in March and have 11k miles, but nothing has gotten worse. I've been keeping an eye on it, but your posting give reason for me to watch it even closer. I will post if anything changes.

My guess is that they won't hand you an '07 for your trouble and that to get that kind of resolution you have to go through some official or legal procedure first. Good luck with this and let us know how (if) it gets resolved.
  • asappasapp Member Posts: 9
Thanks kec8. The funny thing is that I to had a trans issue back in late March. But, the issue was quickly resolved when they realized my trans fluid was low.
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
I think I'll check my trans fluid tonight....
  • asappasapp Member Posts: 9
I just got off the phone with Chryslar and they explained my situation to a dealership in DE. They seem to think the problem is traction control related and feel confident that they can fix the issue. On a side note has anyone else been told to "get used to" their brakes squeaking because of the excess dust given off by the Brembo brakes?
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
Although brake squeal can sometimes be a side effect of "high performance" brakes, I'm not sure that it's really due to increased brake dust but rather the material that they use to make the pad itself. Mine don't squeal and I've got 11k miles on them. Have yours done this from day one or is this a new issue?
  • blkhemiblkhemi Member Posts: 1,717
Why would it be ironic that I'll ask such a question? What, still can't teach an old dog new tricks?? Still up to the same ole same ole.....
  • tomtomtomtomtomtom Member Posts: 491
Does anyone know if there is any changes for the 2007 model? New colors (ext. or int.)?
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
wkjeeps.com is your best bet for that information. Here's the web address:

I WAS NEVER TOLD " GET USE TO " BUT AS I SAID MINE STARTED SQUEAKING AT 4K, U TALK ABOUT BRAKE DUST MY INNER WHEELS, ARE THICK WITH DUST, AND STILL NO PARTS YET, IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO CHECK YOUR BRAKES ! UPSET IN OCEANSIDE CA.
  • asappasapp Member Posts: 9
Kec8 my brakes and this annoying chassis creaking were non-issues before the 39 day stint in the shop in which they put 468 miles on it.
  • asappasapp Member Posts: 9
Thanks onebadhemi56. I didn't think that would be an issue at 13k but, I will certainly take a look.
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
Sounds like they beat the hell out of it "trying to find the problem." These types of "mechanical anomalies" are the kinds of things I was worried about with this vehicle and is one of the major reasons why I leased mine instead of buying it. I'm very interested in seeing how they deal with these issues.

At 11.5k, I've had no service other than oil changes, but I have been concerned about a minor trans vibration from day one. I will certainly keep an eye on the items that you have brought up. Keep us posted. Thanks.
  • asappasapp Member Posts: 9
Kec8 I tried to lease mine but, was told in Jan. that it was too early to lease these because finance companies didn't have an idea how the car would depreciate. Hopefully, all of this will be a mute point in a few months because I have recently sought legal representation and i will definitely keep you posted on all the proceedings.

Anyone find any winter wheel & tire packages yet? Every website that I've checked either doesn't show anything or says that the recommended tires aren't available.
  • htronhtron Member Posts: 74
yeah, I haven't found anything either...
  • guertinguertin Member Posts: 39
I have just ordered a 2007 Jeep SRT8. Boy, do I look forward to getting this car (delivery is estimated to be late December). I was not able to order (from factory) a skid plate to protect some exposed items under the front of the car. However, the dealer will put one on for $49.

I have two questions. Is it wise for me to add this skid plate? (For example, might it imbalance the car? Or, create other problems?) Also, why would Chrysler Jeep offer this for the SRT8? (They offer it for the Laredo and Limited and it's standard for the Overland.)
