I do agree. Those old Jeep Wagoneers were beautiful. I like wagons, too. I had the big Buick Estates wagon---white with the wood grain exterior panels and blue velvet seats (biggest tank that I ever owned), the Dodge Aspen wagon---gray with black interior (cute little 4 cyl. that my wife enjoyed), and the Chevrolet Caprice wagon...light tan exterior and interior (a boring, non-descript wagon).
With your right foot, you gotta go for the HEMI! Second point, I read somewhere they are coming out with an 8 speed automatic for the Jeeps to give them even better fuel economy.

I read somewhere they are coming out with an 8 speed automatic for the Jeeps to give them even better fuel economy.
You read right, ny, but it will take awhile.. In the review in the National Post it says:
If there is a gremlin hiding under this new Jeep it’s the transmission. Not that there is anything wrong with the veteran five-speed automatic, but that’s just it — it’s still a five-speed when the competitors have gone to six-speeds. The reason? Money. With only so many development dollars available, Chrysler has opted to partner with German transmission builder ZF on a forward-looking eight-speed automatic rather than just catch up with a six. However, this eight-speed box won’t be available for two to three years. That’s a shame because, while the power of the Hemi overcomes the gaps in the five-speed, the new Pentastar V6 feels it right between first and second. Is this a fatal flaw? No. While you feel this slight lag, you might also notice the gas station you’re passing and decide you’re on the right end of that trade-off.
The Daihatsu Sirion actually wasn't that bad. I enjoyed it.
Here is a Daihatsu Sirion or Datsun Sirloin car! I'll take the Lincoln Town Car any day. But, people seem to like them. Boomer, do you know where they are made? For The Sirion is incredibly spacious for its size, it has a stylishm, easy-to-use dashboard and it comes with loads of kit for the money. It is solidly built, too.
Against The engines are noisy, the handling is stodgy, with too much body roll in corners. The boot is on the small side. What Car? says4 out of 5 stars This cheap and cheerful supermini is big on equipment and space. A bargain, but it makes most sense to stick with the most basic version for maximum value.
Thanks for the review. It was interesting reading, though not as engaging as Boom's. You can find much better pictures on the Chrysler website. BTW, I'm not hard to please at all---just particular, with discriminating tastes. :P
What i am saying is the JGC was designed first, then development was slowed down so that Mercedes could use it for the ML 350 and release that before Jeep could become production ready. Also, I got my new tires today and I think they are going to work out pretty well. They seem quiet and track well. I don't think there will be any fuel mileage penalty. They were way overinflated to start, so i am still adjusting the tire pressures to my liking. As far as the Fusion damage goes, I took your advice. We have been enjoying egghead's high school graduation and letting thoughts about the Fusion fade into the background and not simmering about it.
2024 Ford F-150 STX, 2023 Ford Explorer ST, 91 Mustang GT vert
I see what you're saying. It's interesting that they slowed the JGC production so that Mercedes could bask in the lime light first. I suppose that is the influence of European cars today on the market.
Glad that you like the new tires. I'm sure that it makes a big difference in the overall ride. That is one less thing that you now have to worry about during your vacation.
I'm glad that you are not simmering about the Fusion. These things happen to the best of us, and there is no need to dwell on it. Be thankful that "egghead" didn't get hurt, and that her graduation moves her on to better things in life.

Have fun, gents. The Mrs and I are heading off to Williamsburg as a 25th anniversary (last Tuesday actually) trip. This is probably the first time in 15 years that we've gone off somewhere without any of the kids. The last one I remember was actually 1996 when we went to Vancouver.

Have a wonderful trip to Williamsburg. We've been going every Christmas for the last 15 years. Take in one or two of the taverns. The food is delicious. Happy Anniversary!
true about the pictures. other than that, the site worked nicely.
not cheap though. Built a Laredo X (whatever that is), and only adding the panoramic moonroof (on a 4x4) brought it up over 38K. At least it did seem to be pretty loaded, and luxury crossovers, even the small ones, tend to be pretty pricey.
will be interested in seeing one in the flesh soon.
Thursday I took my wife's X3 to Swope BMW for the Inspection I(30K mile) service and to touch up the rear air deflector/spoiler. They gave me a 328i xDrive(AWD) sedan for a loaner. My wife ran some errands in it an then came home and announced, "I HATE Swope!!! They always give us a really nice loaner and it makes me want to go buy one just like it!" Fortunately we both have agreed to continue to remain debt-free, so the diabolical plan failed again. That said, if they give me a 335is or an M3 sedan all bets are off... :P

imidazol97....In the Friday edition of the Cincinnati Enquirer, there's a weekend pull out showing everything going on in the different communities in and around Cincinnati over the weekend. They may have it on line, too. Not sure about that, though.
Further, there's a weekly local "Suburban Press" type of publication in my area (Liberty Township/West Chester) that has local events near me.
When I had my boat on the Ohio River, I spent a whole lot more time in and around Cincinnati. Now, Butler County (where I reside) is much more close knit that it seems Cincinnati (Hamilton County) 'burbs are. Lots of "word of mouth" about different happenings around my general area.
Since you're relatively familiar with my home area, we find less and less reason to go into Hamilton County (Cincinnati) much for anything....unless we're going to a REDS or BENGALS game, maybe Riverbend for concerts. For shopping, groceries, community events, recreation parks, pools, golf courses, etc....we don't have the need, nor want to head anywhere near Cincinnati.
Love your shirts! I need to put you in our July 4th parade. I'm cooking BBQ ribs afterward for 300 people. To stay on topic: My cobalt blue convertible will be draped in red, white, and blue.
To Driver: Even Tea Party folks like nice cars, especially those manufactured by the Big Three.

Oh, are those the one's that are made by unions?
(I could be getting in over my head here, but in Canada most of the unions seem to be aligning themselves with the far left. Not sure if it applies in the U.S., but that might be one reason for not buying a Big 3 car).
July 4th parade. I'm cooking BBQ ribs afterward for 300 people.
Make that 302, for sure I am going to sign up....I'll be coming down on July 4 to get my free dinner.(No books or cars to buy as gifts!)
kyfdx.....Yeah, the car show in Sharonville is a good one. I missed it this year and really can't remember why.
I've caught 3 REDs gamse this year. Weeknight games that probably had fewer than 15K people in attendance. We could pretty much sit wherever we wanted. I get the feeling it's going to be much harder to get tickets as easily for the rest of the season while they battle St Louis the rest of the way for the Central Title.
I had an opportunity to get Jeff Beck seats in the first 5 rows, but had to be out of town for work. I bet that was a great concert. I'm officially jealous.
It's actually shaping up as a nice summer, with lots going on....and lots more to come.
Depending on traffic, I'm about 30 minutes from downtown Cincinnati. Probably 40 minutes from Riverbend (outdoor concert venue).
Haven't been to Newfoundland, but you reminded me of something. We went to Nova Scotia in 1996. Though we have traveled to many countries in both Europe and Asia, we both agree that Nova Scotia is the most beautiful place on the planet. It was all that I hoped that it would be and more...clean, green, beautiful waters, quaint villages, excellent food, friendly people, etc. It's the one place beyond the U.S. that I would consider living.
Well, let's see now. My wife has experienced three episodes with my convertible in a year and a half: (1) She backed into the light pole. (2) She got stuck in the mud at a farm. (3) She stepped in dog poop and tracked it on the carpet. We now have a new one to add to the list.
She went to visit a friend yesterday who only lives about three miles from our house. She asked if I minded if she put the top down on the convertible so that she and her friend could enjoy a little ride around the area. I figured why not. After all, what could happen just riding around the village? When will I ever learn?
Her friend, being the nice lady that she is, fixed two glasses of iced tea for them to enjoy as they rode around the area. (You see this coming, don't you?) As my wife made a sharp last minute turn into a new subdivision that they wanted to see, the tea glass slipped from her right hand. The tea managed to spill across the console area, on to the passenger seat, and finally to the carpet below. It goes without saying that her friend also received a nice dosage of it on her skirt. When my wife returned home, we had a nice cleaning session. Our discussion session was rather brief because any further discussion had been taken care of with the three former episodes. I did ask my wife to answer these questions, "Can you tell me what it is that you have against my convertible? Did you not wish for me to purchase this car? Are you jealous because you want your own convertible? Have I done something terrible and need to be punished on a regular basis?" Her response: "I don't know why these things happen. I never have any trouble when I drive the Explorer." She is correct. Nothing happens when she drives the Explorer. We managed to get it all cleaned up, but I'm still going to have ANOTHER interior detail done this week. I try to look on the bright side. If that is the only bad thing to happen, it is easy enough to fix. I'm beginning to wonder if I need to trade the convertible as well as the Explorer.

I feel for ya but I don’t have that problem with any car that I drive. The reason? She doesn’t drive the car that is mine. She has never and I mean never driven the Genny and I’ve mentioned this before she just isn’t comfortable driving anything that she isn’t used to driving, so that’s why I’m safe.
Being an old teacher, you might want to set up a program like we have in our household. But given your wife was also a teacher she probably feels like she can learn to do anything, just takes time to get it mastered.

mine almost never drives my car. Partly because there is no particular need for her too (well, other than the medical emergency issue..). It is also a stick, and she hasn't driven one much since we got the first minivan (before that, we only owned sticks for almost 10 years, so she can still do it). And whenever we are together, especially with my car, I am the one driving.
You also make it hard on yourself having a nice new car. Stick with old beaters like the Explorer (or a well worn Odyssey like we have) and a little tea on the carpet? Just mush it in with your foot and forget about it.
we both agree that Nova Scotia is the most beautiful place on the planet.
Thank you. And some places that are even more beautiful are Lake Louise Alberta, Vancouver and Victoria British Columbia. Maybe keep them in mind if you are ever heading in that direction.
