Our 2003 CRV was quietier than our 2000 and our 2011 is MUCH quietier so they must be working on this.
One of these times that isn't going to work. There are forces at work that will keep the price of oil at higher rates. There is no reason for gas to be almost $4 a gallon during this recession, yet it hasn't come down.
I don't think I would buy a Hummer today....just in case.

December is a long way from now and I think I would wait until you are more in the actual market.
But, that's me. I didn't even test drive a 2011 CRV before I bought it. I knew what to expect and I was very happy with the result.
I once bought a used Miata without driving it. I liked the owner and knew it was a good car. It was pouring rain and the Maita was garaged and spotless.
I gave him a deposit and picked it up the next day. all was well.
It might take me another month or two before I formulate an offer on something I do like (depending on whether I have a trade, whether a dealer has what I want, etc).
Our 8 year old Elantra steers better and more safely.
I remember years ago I think it was Motor Trend that compared an Accord to a Camry. They said "The Camry rides and handles like a ten year old Buick".
That's not to say some people prefer that.
let's see, pretty good so far. Though the weekend prior when the wife, duaghter and I rip up all the ceramic tile was certainly not fun!
got through all the demo and rough in work. Lot's of "where you want that switch" type of stuff, but a lot of progress. just seeing the walls opened up, beams gone, etc. makes me excited to see the end product!
big item for this week is tiling the floors and patching in all the drywall, so a good week to be away (and not have the dog there), especially when the tile is going down. By the end of this week, supposed to be ready for me to paint. Cabinets get delivered Friday, and installed early next week, so we are steaming ahead!
all tile picked out and ordered (well, backsplash not ordered, but that is not available now anyway), and our granite came in yesterday so we can go pick out a nice slab when we get home.
interesting living with a gas grill, and toaster oven and microwave on the dining room table, and no kitchen table.
Actually had a bunch of overnight company last Friday (on the way to vacation), and since we kept it all a secret, they were (to put it mildly) surprised!

Given your statement I think you'd be much happier with Honda's Acura line. GG really liked his and the interior materials and soundproofing are superior to the Hondas. Plus, an Acura would be closer to your Caddy in both materials and refinement. As a bonus you get Honda reliability.

It is a bit early I guess. I think I'm just getting a bit excited (and ahead of myself!), about the next vehicle.
That used to be very typical of Honda. If they spotted a perceived flaw they'd attack it with a vengeance on the next generation. I remember when I got my generation 2 Accord how much better the stereo that came with it than what came with my generation 1. On that first one it drove me crazy enough that I put in an aftermarket unit. With the second one it had teh factory radio until its dying day - and it died only because a guy ran a stop sign and t-boned me.
HA HA HA HA. That's the worst pick-up line I've ever heard. Besides, she probably got all creeped out wondering how you knew she waxed her legs instead of shaving. :P

You are probably right about that in regard to SUV's. Still, I remember that it wasn't as good as it should have been.
"Not sure that any do today."
Well, it did take some research (leaving out the hybrids) but I found five:
1. GMC Terrain---32 mpg hwy
2. Chevrolet Equinox---32 mpg hwy
3. Ford Escape---31 mpg hwy/ 20 mpg city (Hybrid gets only 32 mpg hwy, but gets 34 mpg city. Interesting that hwy mileage isn't higher.)
4. Mercury Mariner---31 mpg hwy
5. Mitsubishi Outlander Sport---31 mpg hwy
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. As you say, I was coming down too hard on Honda. They really are good vehicles.

Cars.com Recommends the 2012 Honda Civic
2012hondacivic
Yesterday, Consumer Reports announced it would no longer recommend the Honda Civic after its 2012 redesign.
The editorial staff at Cars.com has tested various versions of the 2012 Honda Civic over hundreds of real-world miles, and today, we still recommend the car to consumers.
We recommend it for numerous reasons including its terrific mileage, comfortable cabin, top safety scores, high resale value and a long track record of reliability. When the class is so competitive, these factors are what many car shoppers focus on.
In our review of the 2012 Civic we did note that the interior was a step back from the heights of the 2011 Civic. In terms of ride, the new Civic actually is more comfortable than before, but it sacrifices sporty handling in the process.
In a recent Cars.com Shootout we pitted the Civic — an LX model with 15-inch wheels and tires, which is what Consumer Reports tested — against the redesigned 2012 Ford Focus, 2011 Kia Forte, 2011 Chevy Cruze and 2011 Hyundai Elantra. The Civic came in second to the Elantra and was well-ahead of the rest of the group in our scoring.
It was praised for superb visibility, front and rear seat comfort, and acceleration. “The Civic’s automatic is among the group’s most responsive,” Cars.com editor Kelsey Mays said.
The 2012 Civic, which gets an EPA-estimated 28/39 mpg city/highway, returned mileage of 36.8 mpg in our Shootout mileage test that mixed city and highway driving. It topped the Shootout competitors, besting the Elantra at 34.5 mpg. With gas prices still hovering near $4 nationally, the Civic is one of the most efficient non-hybrid models that can fit five people.
The 2012 Civic has been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This is IIHS’ highest safety award. The federal government has not yet tested the new Civic.
Consumer Reports with its well-earned history of studying car reliability gave the previous Honda Civic sedan its top score for predicted reliability the past three years, and the 2012 earns a Better Than Average score. No other compact car scores higher with Consumer Reports.
Automotive Leasing Guide currently rates the 2012 Civic at 58% residual value for a three-year lease. The segment average is 49%. Residual scores directly impact resale values down the line.
While it may have flaws, the 2012 Honda Civic is still one of the best cars in its class and should be on any short list for compact-car shoppers.
The Mustang is a great car. Enjoy!
I was at Enterprise today buying some cars.. they had some 2011 Fiestas... one had 18k, one had in the 20s.
$17k+ if memory serves.. and they're getting that at the auctions. Insanity.

I have this fantasy where I get a Mustang GT now and hide it in the barn until 2025. I then bring it out and become the fastest car on the road.
Kind of like Sly Stalone did in the movie "Demolition Man" where he found a classic Oldsmobile 442 buried underground and went out and blew the doors off all the modern EVs. Maybe I can even pick up Sandra Bullock as a bonus.
I think the movie was set in the year 2025.

I read a sci fi story way, way back in 1976. It was called "Tricentennial," I think, and was set in the year 2076. It was kind of post apocalyptic, but I don't remember the exact scenario. The thing I do remember is that in that year of 2076 the characters somehow find or have in an air conditioned garage an almost perfectly preserved 1976 Chrysler Imperial! There's an old guy of c. 80 who inherited the car, I think, who is asked by a young guy in his 20s to demonstrate how this thing works. And the young guy has never seen one in action because there are no cars on the roads at this point. They somehow get good tires on the thing and take it out on the road. The old guy hasn't driven in something like 40 years and doesn't remember how very well. Plus the interstate is mostly ruined. But it's a Chrysler Imperial with a big V-8 and he gets it up to 75 mph--which amazes the young whipper snapper. But because the road is in rough shape shortly after that they wipe up--but are saved by seat belts and a technology that the 76 imperial had: a driver's side air bag, which inflates in a surreal way as they come to a stop....
Silly stuff, but I remember enjoying that story as a kid.
You should enjoy your Mustang now! Are you getting an auto do you think, or a manual?
A really well thought out review that makes a lot of sense. Sometimes CR gets all hung up on things that don't matter. I remember I checked CR before I got my 1973 Maverick. They didn't like the 2-door Maverick because of the small amount of space in the backseat. I thought it seemed more like a sports car having a small backseat area, and it was designed very smartly.
Their comments might have made sense in their world, but for me, I bought the car because I wanted a 2 door with a backseat that could be used if needed, but when not used the car had a sportier feel.
It had a 302 V8 and moved out pretty nicely and was an enjoyable car to own.
I think you have to read CR and decide for yourself if their comments apply to you. In this case, I think the important information is other cars in the segment have improved, is it time to check them out?

can justify with statistics and potential popularity.

I don't think the Japanese manufacturers have caught up since the tsunami tragedy. Stock levels are low. Add to that, Detroit isn't cranking out the cars in nearly the same volumes since the big bankruptcies.
There just aren't as many new cars available.
So, simple economics points to a rise in used car prices and demand.
I'm also wondering if tight credit on new cars has any impact. But, I'd think if getting a loan on a new car is more difficult, it would be even more difficult on a used car. I'm just wondering if credit has loosened up at all for car dealers.
They said the same thing when they had to add catalytic converters, seat belts and airbags. Just like any business, they complain when they have to innovate.
The article also says over 80% of cars will have turbos (try fixing that yourself).

A good article on the shortage of new cars, especially Toyotas and Hondas, this year.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------
The auto industry staggered through another sluggish month in July, as General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. posted modest sales gains while Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. suffered big declines because of shortages.
Chrysler Group LLC was alone among the major car makers in posting a significant U.S. sales increase, logging a 20% gain.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------
One Honda dealer says he will only have 130 cars to sell this month when he usually sells 350.

Every other week I get a mailer from Mitsu offering me $30K in credit any time I want it. Since they know how little my income is from my last credit application they are really being generous.
I bet people with the 540 FICOs aren't so lucky and they're the one's more likely to buy cars frequently.

How about this little car chase scene from What's Up Doc? From 1972. Watch what happens to the VW Bus...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecfDHBUmHXc
So, 2 cylinder cars have been made. I have to admit I don't think I'd want one, but for those looking to hypermile without a hybrid this may be one of the answers!
Crosly....Have to look for some pix of those...
"The original engine is the Waukesha Model 150 Cub Twin, a 580 cc air-cooled L-head opposed twin-cylinder engine built by Waukesha Engines of Waukesha, Wisconsin, and used from 1939 through 1942. It was replaced in 1946 with the CoBra (for "Copper Brazed"), a 721 cc overhead-cam four. That engine in turn was replaced in 1949 by the new and more reliable CIBA (Crosley Cast Iron Block Assembly) engine utilizing five main bearings.
[edit] Crosley CoBra (1945–1949)
Crosley CoBra Block and Valve Cover
The CoBra (Copper Brazed, also known as "The Mighty Tin") was originally developed by Lloyd Taylor, of Taylor Engines in California, for military use aboard PT boats and B-17 Flying Fortress bombers. The engine was made from sheet metal rather than cast iron like most other engines. This was done to get a thin, uniform wall thickness and thus avoid the creation of hot spots around the combustion chamber that could ignite the fuel, causing pre-ignition (knocks). These engines were used mainly to power generators, refrigeration compressors, etc., and were widely praised for their successes in the war effort.
The engine was not adopted for automobile use until 1946. It was a very small, very lightweight engine; the block weighed only 14.8 pounds (6.7 kg); complete with all accessories (including the flywheel) weighing only 133 pounds (60 kg). The engine displaced a mere 44 cu in (0.721 L) and produced 26 horsepower (19 kW) at 5200 rpm. Longevity was not a requirement for their wartime duties, but unfortunately corrosion became a problem for these engines in long-term service, as in automobiles. These problems led to a tarnished reputation by 1948 when used as powerplants in Crosley cars."
The lightest car you could make today and still meet safety standards would probably weigh about 1900 pounds. But a 2 cylinder engine might be able to propel a car like that 0-60 in about 10 seconds...Again, I wouldn't want one, but probably some people would.
OK I tried my worst. Sometimes your best ain’t good enough. :P
Just wait until your wife finds out.

'15 Genesis V8 with Ultimate Package and '18 Legacy Limited 6 cyl
IE.. say I take in your old TL, and I figure that with a unibody damage announcement that it does, I dunno.. $27,500 maybe $28k.
$27,500
-75 detail
-200 ship it to auction
-300 est auction fees
I'd be $26,900 on the car at the most.
There is a huge shortage of inventory right now, especially for us at Hyundai, right now we have less than 40 new cars in inventory, down to 3 Sonatas, just got 6 Elantras in, and they're light blue Limited with tan interiors.. yuck. And they're still selling!
We have 1 Tucson.. 3 Veracruz and the rest are Genesis sedans and Santa Fes.
Oh, 2 Gen coupes too.
We should do 160-180 new cars a month....
And used car prices are still high, but some are starting to come down, Priuses are way down... so are some SUVs
The mooches are learning that and they aren't happy when they have to open their wallets a bit more.
He also had a business where he sold small (relatively) radios, cheaply. All when radios were being sold in large cabinets, that cost a lot.
Then, he founded the first (and most powerful) radio station when radio was just coming into its own as a media powerhouse (WLW). That station's tower isn't too far from my home.
He's even been credited to discovering the likes of Bob Hope, Roy Rogers/Dale Evans, Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney (George Clooey's Aunt), and many others to put them on his radio station.
My understanding, at one time, it pushed out so many watts, broadcasts could be heard all over North America.
And, as you pointed out, he also owned the Cincinnati Reds at one point in time.
He was a true entrepreneur.
