yeah, the text is brutal. It happens on occasion. I assume eventually they will wake up the hamster and put him back on the wheel.

I'm still amazed at the deal you got returning the V6. How many miles did you put on it before they took it back? Some day you'll have to tell the whole story of that negotiation.

=>When you apply brakes hard they actually detect that and automatically try to stop you as quickly as possible.=<
That would have been nice if worked for the woman who was speeding out of control in her Kia Sorento SUV on a Missouri highway. According to the driver the accelerator was stuck and the SUV started gaining speed up to 115 miles per hour. That ordeal lasted for about 45 minutes as she weaved in and out traffic on the highway.
An excerpt from the article: “Ulvestad can be seen in the video swerving to dodge cars and driving over the highway median three times in order to avoid a crash.”
Watch the video and read her horrifying story here.
in 45 minutes it never occurred to her to either turn the ignition off, or put the thing into neutral? Not like a Kia has a fancy electronic shifter or anything. Unless there was some kind of fatal electronic crash that prevented every system except for WOT to not work it does not make much sense.
No where in that video did I see any brake lights coming from the Kia. If the accelerator was stuck, she could'be lifted it up with her foot, stepped on the brakes HARD, pushed it out of gear or turned off the key. I find it hard to believe that she couldn't door any of those things but was able to pick up the phone and call her husband.
in 45 minutes it never occurred to her to either turn the ignition off, or put the thing into neutral?
A poster on another thread offered this bit of advice:
"It was not long after I got my drivers licence that I learned the best way to control a car with a stuck gas pedal is to shove the gear in neutral, or in the case of manual transmission, depress the clutch. That will cut off power to the wheels and then you can use the brakes to bring the car to a safe stop.
I hope that does not happen to any of you, but it should be taught in driving schools so that it becomes an automatic reaction should that happen."
The 911 operator suggested that and the woman responded that she had tried that and either she couldn't do it or it didn't work. Don't know why that would be.

Much like the Toyota fiasco of a couple of years ago. All greedy lawyers and driver error. People with their own agenda were ready to lynch Toyota but apparently it has all died a natural death now.
Obama just decreed that the fuel efficiency standards for the year 2025 will be an average of 54 mpg. Welcome to the sardine can revolution. We get 54 mpg and the oil companies charge $15. per gallon to hold their profit. What have we gained? Hope and change.
Hopefully, he and all his new rules will be tossed come November.

5.0 Yes. NYcarguy, I saved many of the introductions posted here from 2010 and while looking you up found your post to be very interesting. Replaced by 4 people because of your workload, etc. If you don't mind, I'd like to post it so some of the new guys can get a glimpse of one of our younger guys. Thanks for the GT review.
That stripe really works Thanks, fezo. I was wondering if it was too bright, but so far the reactions have been great. Plain white needs to be offset.
I told the salesman I'm available for consultation on new car ordering since this one was copied from the order I did on the Red one back in April. Stone (off white) interior, Polished wheels (easy to keep clean), etc.
I also made them put the spoiler back on this car as someone in purchasing did a spoiler delete. Oh No. I said there is a name for a Mustang without a spoiler...it's called a Taurus.
Well, driver & his wife are happy with their Audi A4 & upcoming Passat. Mako1a has the pimp daddy mack car on the board right now with his 412 hp, V8, 5.0 Mustang GT (I dig the car in case you hadn't noticed). Graphicguy's sister got a smoking deal on a scorching red Camaro Drop Top. Fezo is feeling better today & Mike didn't get whacked by a hurricane. I think I'll tell a story with a happy ending to keep with the theme.
Last week I spoke of my friend who's beautiful '07 A4 3.2 met its untimely death at the hands of either a large puddle (according to the dealer & his insurance company) or masterful VW engineering (according to roadburner & explorerx4). He really loved the car. He bought a set of 19" RS4 Wheels & tires for it. He even bought an RS4 flat bottomed steering wheel, & installed it himself. He was planning to do some suspension work to it. It was a keeper in his mind. He was devastated when he got news that his A4 would need a new engine.
I told him, don't worry Rob. everything happens for a reason. You'll find something else that'll make you forget about your beloved Audi. He starts poking around looking for CPO Infiniti G37S sedans. I tell him he should look at BMWs because I'm so incredibly happy with my car and the way it drives. He's thinking an '09 CPO 335i is in his price range.
He wants a car with Automatic, Sports Pkg, Premium Pkg, preferably Blue, Silver, or White. He finds a dealer that has an '09 335i with only 15,000 miles (no Navigation) listed at $34,995 (Black/Black). The dealer won't budge off the asking price. He finds another '09 335i, Silver/Black with 31,000 miles listed for $31,991. They are 2 1/2 hours away from him & after some back & forth, agree to lower their asking price by $1000.
I tell him to keep looking. Yesterday he leaves a VM with the internet mgr @ the BMW dealer in Ft. Lauderdale. Says he's looking for an '09 CPO 335i w/ Sport Pkg... The guy calls him back today & says they don't have any '09s that match his criteria, but do have a few 2011 Executive Demos that they MUST BLOW OUT by the end of the month. He tells the guy that an '11 will most likely be out of his price range (given the high asking prices of CPO '09s) & he (my friend) has a different idea of BLOW OUT than the guy working at the BMW dealer in Ft. Lauderdale.
My friend bought a very nicely equipped (sport, prem, auto, cold weather, navigation, automatic...) 2011 BMW 335i with 7,000 miles on it. The car is an untitled demo. $37,500 + TTL (a discount of over $14,000 dollars). He called me and I can literally hear the happiness in his voice. He says the car is unreal & he loves it!

Great looking car, mako! Just catching up on posts and was super impressed with color and stripe. I had an '89 Mustang GT coupe with a 5.0 liter 5 speed stick. Always seemed to have problems keeping the front wheels on the road it was so powerful. Believe me, I wish I was just a little younger and a bit more flexible in my left knee - I'd buy a 6 speed stick GT at the drop of a hat.
at least at my local Hyundai dealer. Stopped in tonight unannounced (like to keep my salesguy on his toes!) to drive another Santa Fe. Figure 8:00 on a tuesday should be dead, right? Nope. Please was jumping, deals being done, every salesguy on duty was busy. But, we ere not in a hurry, so we hung out.
finally got our guy free from writing up a sale (good for him!) and unearthed a base engine (no turbo) AWD. figured that was the heaviest and slowest. But, seemed plenty peppy. So the wife did not see a need to spend extra on forced induction. Nice!
she even saw (though in the dark) the blue she was interested in. Just need to go see it in the daylight.
gotta love the dealer though. Kept poking to see if they could get us to buy this month to book another deal. Not likely (still need to drive an Acura again, then make a final decision). Plus if the Hyundai, supply is just trickling in, so it will take a while most likely to find our exact criteria. and of course, to convince them to accept my price!

What a deal. I am glad the higher price didn't hold him back...it is well worth the extra money to get a much newer car with 2 or 3 years extra driving time....and he is covered by the warranty. He may think about an extended warranty when he gets near the end. If you buy the warranty before the regular warranty is over it will cost a lot less.
All the best to your friend, and yes, things are progressing positively around here.
an Acura RDX, their smaller SUV. Trying to downsize!
my wife is ready to have a new car now. so yes, once we decide exactly what to get, we could buy on the spot, if the mood strikes us. Or wait a little while for supply if needed, but we are under no particular time crunch to do anything.
Funny though, after we left Hyundai, and got back into her Van, she just looked at the dash and said something like "it just isn't the same. Looks so old".
She has the new car bug, and bad! Must be repressed feelings from driving a minivan as her car for 17 years!
mako.....love the car........I have a soft spot for Mustangs.
NYC.....you have a gift to sum up recent posts in the most poetic and concise ways. Good job.
Edmunds....in all seriousness, you sort of depend on eyeballs hitting the site for ad revenue. You really should redo the forums....upgrade your hardware, redo the forum coding. We like it here, but not when things go caddywhompus.
I have not had any luck pushing used. She wants new, which is fine. And the 2011 RDX is an entirely different car, that she did not like at all.
The Hyundai is a new platform. Kia is still the old version, not in the running. Plus I won't go into a Kia dealership.
The RDX MSRP is higher, but I hae a big discount offer on the table. SO that puts it close to a higher end Santa Fe (even at MSRP there is overlap). So in the end, the RDX has a few less goodies for the same price, or a few more for a little more money.
but at most, is will be make 3k difference between the 2, so whatever she wants is fine.
The BMW X3, now that was going to jump a good 10K, and well above the price range (should really not have shown her that!)
pretty much, a baser Santa fe is the budget, an RDX is a slight stretch but doable, an X3 is don't send my daughter to college...
"You were doing a lot of biking. Did the accident affect your biking?"
Driver--
I'm trying to still commute as often as I can by bike, but, unfortunately, that has been affected by the accident. I have gone to a chiropractor, orthopedist, pain management specialist, physical therapist and had numerous MRIs, x-rays, cat scans and the like without a definitive diagnosis or prognosis. Clearly there is chronic pain to the left of my spine in the cervical area, but nothing seems to address it. The funny thing is I can handle the pain in my upper back (although sometimes I sleep in a chair) it is the resultant chronic headaches that have worn me down.
Naturally, bicycling which I enjoy for health benefits, seems to exacerbate my condition, but then again, most exercise involves at least some twisting and arm movements which engage that area.
My strategy right now is to keep fighting on, but it changes from day to day.
I actually really like the way those Volvo XCs look, I'm just not sure I could stomach what would likely be much more frequent and expensive visits for service.
If it were me it would be "Daughter, working your way through college will be a great educational experience", and I would go for the X3. No, just joking.
It sounds like you have this well thought out. It is a good plan.
What is $500? The tires themselves? The way they say it it sounds like you can put nitrogen in your regular tires.
If it last 4X as long as air it could be a good thing. Of course $50 every 4 months to fill your tires compared to a few dollars for air and it could add up.
It actually IS a problem for virtually all direct injection(DI) engines. No fuel hits the intake valve so all the gunk from the EGR and PCV systems accumulates on the intake valves. Here's a look at the intake valves on a DI Audi RS4
BMW is no stranger to the walnut shell blasting procedure; it was first employed in the mid '80s due to intake valve deposits caused by fuels with inadequate detergent additive packages. BMW subsequently developed what is now known as the ASTM D 5500 (BMW) intake valve deposit test which tests the deposit contol of a given gasoline sample. This eventually led to BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, and Volkswagen/Audi working together to develop the Top Tier gasoline standards.
Unfortunately, the best detergent additive pack in the world won't help a DI engine, since no fuel ever touches the intake valve.

And here's why: a local Christian radio station partnered with a Lincoln dealer; test drive a Lincoln and you get a $50 gift card to a very nice local restaurant/orchard/winery. Further, the dealer would make a donation to one of my favorie charities- Food for the Poor. We made an appointment for a weekday afternoon and all went very smooth. The sales guy asked if I was interested in buying a Lincoln and I said "No." so he went and got the keys to a MKS. Note that it was an "old" 2012 MKS, not the restyled/upgraded 2013. That said, it was a pleasant drive. It was quiet and comfortable, while the interior had a quality feel and looked to be well screwed together. The car actually had shift paddles, which struck me as odd since the MKS is nowhere close to being a sports sedan. Overall I would have to say that the MKS is an excellent choice for someone who likes a traditional American luxury car that goes about its business with a smooth and solid feel. We had a good laugh on the test drive; the sales guy was demonstrating the voice recognition feature and the system misunderstood him and announced, "Now tuning to gay radio station." :P
Next up is a test drive of a Dodge Dart- my son is pushing for this one as he wants to write a automotive story for his school newspaper AND he wants a chance to win tickets to the iHeart Radio Music Festival, and you enter the contest by test driving a Dart. The Dodge dealer next to my Mazda dealer in Cincy actually had a Dart Rallye[sic] with a stick and no hole in the roof, but I doubt will find anything similar in Louisville...

Think about it, three things had to have failed on this KIA all at once.
1. Drive by wire.
2. Ignition turn off button/circuit.
3. Transmission would not come out of gear.
These are not cascading failures. Odds are driver is at error here more than anything.

pretty much, a baser Santa fe is the budget, an RDX is a slight stretch but doable, an X3 is don't send my daughter to college...

I think it'll be a Santa Fe of some sort.

Driver--
I'm trying to still commute as often as I can by bike, but, unfortunately, that has been affected by the accident.

Damn, do you guys in Canada really have to pay for air? It’s one of the free things still left in the USA. It’s gotta cost you guys a mint just to breath. How are you charged for it, by the day or by the cubic foot? Six footers pay more than 5 footers or what? :confuse:

How is an RDX different than a CRV. They're the same size, built in the same place, looks suspiciously similar in basis.
