I think I just entered the Twilight Zone!

Help! I've fallen and I can't get up.
This is going to take awhile. I think my senority was stipped from me, too.
A great Canadian consumer TV show called "Marketplace" exposed a quick lube chain in Ontario. Employees were given commissions to sell uneeded products. They also said they flushed radiators or changed brake fluid etc. but they didn't actually do the work - though they charged for it. The particular chain they showed on the program was a total scam. This is a 3 minute preview:

Happened to a lot of us. Interestingly, it's only really senior members who got stripped. We've reported it as an error, but no idea if it can be fixed.

2013 FORD ESCAPE IMPRESSIONS
If anyone remembers; a lady smashed my Regal in June when she went through a red light while texting. After a short search I decided to buy a Ford Escape. The Escape is just the size I was looking for and I have never owned a Ford before. The fact that it is 4-wheel drive was another thing I decided to try. Although my wife always had 4-wheel or all-wheel drive, this would be my first trip there.
It is an SEL with the 1.6 liter EcoBoost engine. Power is sufficient but, obviously, not overwhelming.
I had the oil changed at 5,000 miles since it would be the first one even though the oil minder said there was 65% life left in it. That seems like a good time to reveal my impressions so far.
The seats are comfortable and supportive. I regularly haul kids in the back and there’s plenty of space. The few times I have had adults back there, there have been no complaints. No power passenger seat on a vehicle that stickered for over $34k? That seems strange.
My Ford Touch and Sync are not without their problems. I don’t know where one ends and the other one starts actually. Occasionally the time is off by hours when re-starting. The radio occasionally will be tuned to the flash drive I have in the USB slot when I had it set to SeriusXM when shutting the car off. Messages sent to my phone will play if I hit the Listen button on the screen – usually. Sometimes it shuts itself off and isn’t available.
Ford has a web site where you can do things such as update Sync by downloading files to a flash drive, taking the drive to the car and inserting it into the USB drive. That’s sort of cool. You don’t have to go to the dealer for any updates. Recalls are also on that site, but are there long before the dealer is ready to perform the recall work. That frustrates the dealer. I know because I asked about a recall presently listed on the web site.
The 4-wheel drive works great and only seems limited by the tires. I was pleasantly surprised after our recent snowfall here in central PA.
There are colored lights in the doors that come on when the doors are opened at night and they are adjustable for different colors. The driver’s side is red and the passenger side is green. I don’t get it. Plain white light would have been more than sufficient and the effort probably should have gone elsewhere.
The keyless entry and keyless start is nice. I missed it after having it on my Mazda 6. It’s funny how you really get to like something like that – never having to get your key out of your pocket. It locks when leaving the vehicle by touching a pad on the door and unlocks when touching any door handle. It also has the number thing on the door to unlock it, but I don’t know what the number is and never use it. It seems Ford is the only one still doing that and it seems weird. Thankfully it isn’t obvious unless at night when it lights up. Otherwise it is invisible.
The power tailgate is nice and the fact it will open when you move your leg under the rear bumper is nice too, but, once again, not necessary. Occasionally it won’t close completely and has to be opened slightly and closed again. That can be done from the button on the dashboard.
I have used it almost exclusively around town with only 3 short trips. It is averaging around 20 mpg.

This place is waaaay to clutered. Almost impossible to read and follow with all the distractions from pictograms, colors, etc. Proportions are all messed up, e.g. names too big vs. the actual messages. This thing looks like designed by a 12 year-old-kid. All techno may be here, but the actual content it's drowned by flashy and unessential junk. Overdone, not too intuitive, distracting - that's my review.
BTW, how one responds to another post? Can you?
2018 430i Gran Coupe
Just click on "quote" under the comment box, and it'll show the post of the person you wish to respond to---in your case, I edited part of the re-quote before adding my own comments here.
You may find, as others are finding, that these new forums are faster and simpler. Sometimes it's like getting into a new car where you don't know the controls---so give it a test drive for a few days.
and now, back to our regular programming!

So I see there won't be threads, but one can at least quote the other. For that there are positives and negatives. Threads are useful, but they sometimes go too long and completely off tracks. Like it could be titled "Re: My car", but talk about refrigerator, dishwasher, or latest news.

Exactly Dino--I find this format cleaner.
I suppose it's normal to resist change rather than to embrace it but at this point, I'm finding this new format to be very difficult to navigate. I think I've lost my seniority AGAIN which means I'll lose my company vesting, vacation time and everything else. I've been here since these forums began in (I think) 1996! Maybe I'll get used to this but at this point, it's not looking good!
Like it could be titled "Re: My car", but talk about refrigerator, dishwasher, or latest news.
Hey, what's wrong with talking about dishwashers?

Enjoy your newer ride.
I wasn’t around in June. I took some time off for no reason so this is the first time I heard about this. Since you didn’t mention any ills from the event, I assume it was just car damage which is good news.
I agree. It sure does make you wonder where/how/why they come up with this stuff.
Congrats again.

After a short search I decided to buy a Ford Escape.
I really enjoyed reading your review of the new Escape. Some comments I can identify with, I really like keyless was one...not having to look for keys. My automatic trunk doesn't always open easily by swiping my foot under the bumper, but, sometimes it goes up if the dog runs behind the car.
We are back home in Canada for a few weeks-I am not sure why, about a foot of snow on the ground and about 25F....we could be in Florida where it has been about 75F all month. I am using a friends 10 year old Honda CRV. It hums along but it is very basic transportation. It has over 60K miles on it, but it is tight and competent. Just not much fun.
My 535 is still in Florida so I drove my wife's A4 yesterday, for the first time in a long time. It is the most enjoyable car I have driven, actually more enjoyable than the 535. It is a manual and the shifts are very smooth...lots of leeway as to which gear you should be in. Fantastic steering and handling, and the Quattro is great for getting through snow. I know GG has had his problems, but I love the A4.

Tough to like this new format. I was asked what browser I was using. It's whatever came on this I pad. Could that be a problem?
TMV is useless now. When I try to price a new car I get almost to the end and get kicked off the site. When I come back I'm immediately kicked off again.
This is terrible.

It could be. I don't know a lot about iPads, but if you have a very old operating system or browser, it could be that our site isn't designed for that system/browser.

Great write up venture. I'm glad you are happy with your Escape. My Father In Law has the exact same Escape as you (1.6 ECO Boost 4WD). You impressions seem spot on. After 3 Subarus, he test drove the Escape and loved it. I've never driven it, but have been a passenger. The seats are exceptionally supportive and on the firm side. Enjoy!

There's a little magnifying glass down there, next to the "leave a comment" tab and the row of numbers (which show you the last post number BTW)---that's a search feature.
CORRECTION! that row of numbers are PAGE numbers, not post numbers. Sorry
Great write up venture. Yes it was!
My Mustang does the same trick with the radio. I leave it with a good song and come back to FM or whatever and have to find where I was. Also I checked and saw power driver seat and manual pass seat. Booo.

Definitely worried about Richard. This new format is going to take its toll on us old folks who could barely manage the old format.

I hope it's not too off topic, but I think I should relate this to our family of posters.
When we arose this morning, we heard on the news broadcasts about the TARGET hacking that took place over the past few weeks. We don't usually shop too much there, but when I looked back over our receipts, I saw that we had, in fact used our credit cards there several times since Thanksgiving.
So rather than get all worked up over checking for cash withdrawals or bogus charges, I just called the bank where I had my credit card. They suggested closing the account and that they would overnight a new credit card to me and Dad just to be on the safe side. They said they have been swamped with requests to close credit card accounts. It took me 30 minutes to get through to a customer service rep even at 8:00 AM this morning. So that is what we did. So long as the overnight the cards to us so we have them to use this weekend and next week.
Sure is some hacking job. They claim that over 40 million customers could be affected. Things are certainly getting out of control with this ability to hack just about anything.

I'm concerned myself. I just happened to purchase some shaving lotion from Target last week and am in this affected group.
I hope the car manufacturers are watching this and properly securing the drive-by-wire and other integrated computer systems. I do NOT want the last thing I see on Earth to be a Microsoft blue screen of death as the car veers into oncoming traffic.
I got an email that I am a 10000 poster and I got 20 points, and I am a name dropper (replied to someone else), so I earned 5 points. I hope these are points towards getting a new Audi.
P.S. I am worried about Richard too.....he's not going to be happy about the changes.

If anyone gets credit for lots of posts, especially if in only one board, you are. . . the man.
I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that I do not KNOW what is causing that issue, and that I hope you use "contact us" at the bottom of the page so that people who do understand these things can assess and address the problem.

Hey hosts, did I miss the what's hot article on the 2015 MB C class? Can't seem to find the Edmunds write up, though a google search reveals everybody else had an article?
By the way somebody might want to do a UX review of these forums on a tablet...just saying...
I am sure things will work out in the end.......but for now I have some major problems trying to navigate the new site. Briefly;
I think there is more but that is all I can think of for now. If I was away for a few days I wouldn't have a clue where I left off.....poor Richard!

As for Richard, he ain’t so poor but this new format will take its tole on him too. I think he mentioned a while back that he shaved his head. So, losing his hair over this new format won’t be as painful for him as it has been for some of us. It’s a damn good thing that I had lots of it to start with so I’m still not looking too bad. Not nearly as bad as that picture they show of me.

Driver, just one new users opinion. But I think using the bookmarks is the easiest way. Especially if you do what Richard does (not sure about you!) and only visit 1-2 topics. Click the star to put this thread into bookmarks. when you come to the site, just click on the bookmark link, and it tells you how many new posts, and if you click on the topic it takes you right to the last one you read (or 1st unread). Just like the old software in that regard.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
@stickguy I just put all the forums I visit in Bookmarks. Then when I go to Bookmarks if there's a yellow box over a text saying there are new posts, I click on that line and go there.
I have set the Bookmarks as my Favorite in the Firefox browser bar. So to come to Edmunds, I just click on that and it takes me to Bookmarks with autologon.
After reading each topic, I right-click on a bare area of the desktop and choose "Back" from the fly-out menu, which takes me back to the Bookmark page to click the next unread topic. It's the best we can do with the "Read New Posts" link we used to have. In lieu, I suggested a Bookmarks link at the bottom of the page next to "Home" and "General."
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
Haha. Good one shifty.
These new emoticons are quite silly.
If y'all could put comments/suggestions about the new software in the "welcome" topic, that'd be great. It's getting hard to follow members' wants, likes, dislikes, etc. in all of these separate discussions. If you hit the "recent discussions" link on the right, it's pinned to the top of the list. Thanks!
