That's my region so either you have to come down to Va Beach and buy the Sienna from me or you have to drive across the bridge to Jersey. South Jersey is part of our region so they have the rates. Go to link title and see which dealers fall in our cat region. Hope this helps!

metmdx, let me get back to you on this tomorrow morning when I get to the store. I swear to God those rates were up last week. All I see now is cash back on the 07 Sienna. I have all the incentives at the dealership.

Hey ol' buddy, we've seen a lot of changes on Edmund's haven't we? Thank you for your best wishes and I plan to be around for a while. Who does my doc think she is to tell me when I'm going to go right?

Gee, I'm sorry I put you in the wrong boat. I could have sworn you were a salesman. You talk just like one. Besides, I just said that you guys were nice. I didn't distinguish b/t who was in the biz and who was kicking the tires. Be careful because we don't want to run into your dingy as our yacht goes cruising by.

..Good thing is you can "read" the box with the magic key and find out who the last person to use the key was. That's how we caught a salesperson taking cars home for days.

And to think...we always thought you guys in the biz were pretty clever. Not anymore. :shades:

"...To my way of thinking that's very unethical..."

Sure it is. This is the way some companies do business these days. Pit the sales staff against a "call center" or other telemarket section, sit back and watch them cut each others throats. The management laughs as you and the phone people kill each other over the same dollar. Very bad long term strategy but by the time it destroys the company the "consultants" who sold the owners on the idea are long gone.

I kind of got a taste of this yesterday. After watching the early ball games we decided to go to Ya'all Mart and pick up a Crib for soon to be Grandson. Any how my wife looks on line and one of the stores showed to have 4 in stock of the one we wanted. We jump in the truck and away we go for the 20 minute drive. We get there and the lady tells us "Oh we have been out of that model for 2 weeks" I ask here about the web site and she tells me that it hardly ever updates correctly, and it probably just means that they are scheduled to get 4 more in the next week or so.

We just shrugged it off and bought another brand. I guess there business strategy worked on us because we still spent some money while we there. :D

Mack I got to sign up at home because firewalls at work won't let me on carspace. I'll figure it out this week. I'm not that computer savy.

    Joeland JM,

Only 11 games left. i have to admit if they keep playing like yesterday I'll be a little nervous.

Not even half way through the sales event.

Wait, what's that I see on the horizon? Yep, it looks like a tough customer that's coming this weekend. You might not be able to close this guy but stay nervous, even if you do there are others. ;)

"...firewalls at work won't let me on carspace..."

I'm having the same problem. I looked at e-mail in box for the first time in months (never saw the need for e-mail) and found lots of buddy requests. When I tried to get into carspace I couldn't.

Guess I'll have to drag some 5 year-old off the street to show me how to make it all work.

Ok, I was billing out deals this morning and came across one I delivered last week that I was holding till a check was good.

It was a A Plan deal, I figured commission and put the cost in and hit the compute button. For some reason a $800 deal came up as a $4000 deal. I re-did my math like 5 times and was stumped. The I figured it out.

On our system when you put the stock # in it pre-fills the price with the MSRP. I was BS'ing with the customer and never changed it to the A-plan price.

i sent them a $3200 check this morning. Won't they be surprised.

My boss told me I am a dumb [non-permissible content removed] and am lucky for the happy ending. If the customer would have noticed it before we did they never would have believed it was a mistake. I tend to agree with him.

Why do I keep getting emails..." Paula wants to be your friend, join her on Car Space"? etc...I get about five of these a week. I'm actually friendly, I just don't have the time.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Carspace now includes the Forums, Blogs and a myspace/facebook like page.

I am like you I don't really keep up with the blogs and personal pages although I try to accept people's requests.

I used to get those kind of e-mails but mine said Paula only wanted to be my friend if I purchased some male enhancement products.

Its great that you refunded the difference. My question is how in the heck did the customer not notice it? I could see missing a few hundred, but over 3K?

My question is how in the heck did the customer not notice it?

That was the same question I had.

If you're paying cash how can you miss it and surely if you're a payment buyer, like most people, I would think you'd fall off the chair when you saw your payments unless that amount was under your ceiling. Also, if they are a payment buyer it makes you wonder if they really know the number of months they've sigh up for.

Just shows to go ya what a lot of people know about simple math. :surprise:

Easy, they trust us. They have bought allot of cars here over the years and never read anything any more. Just point and sign.

    Easy, they trust us.

Exactly! And thats why there will be a 3200 dollar check in their mailbox. I once told a customer that I was giving them a deal of invoice less the dealer cash. After they ha agreed in numbers and went home I discovered and extra 1000 dollars dealer cash that was available to them. Guess who got a very nice phone call. Actually kind of funny. I told them on the phone " there has been a mistake in the numbers on the car you were buying." You could actually FEEL them tense up. And then when I told them it was in their favor I could FEEL them sigh with relief. The heck of it was, I had promised them something and they would have been totaly ok with paying the extra money. But it wouldnt have been right.
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
Well, I'm sure they'll pay a little more attention next time they buy! ;)

metmdx, sorry I took so long to get back to you. I thought I was losing my mind but I'm ok. There is special APR on the 2008 Sienna. This is the breakdown: 3.9% for 36 months, 4.9% for 48 months, and 5.9% for up to 60 months. Tier 1+, Tier 1, & Tier 2 customers only. I think that translates to 670 and up. I have the page in front of me if you want me to fax it to you. I believe the link title didn't post it as they probably want to move the 07 first. Instead of the $1500.00 cash back they have 1.9% for 48 mos and 3.9% for 60 to the same tier as an the 08 customers.

Yeah maybe I am a little jealous. But it is what it is. I have a couple buddies doing leases at fico scores of 560 what can you do?

Is it true that with Toyota finance the more Tier 1+ customers you finance the better chance they will finance a poor credit customer for you?

Mack, no sweat; at least you have a mind to lose. I just put in a 13 hour day, so I don't have much of one left. Are you telling me it's a national program on the '08 Siennas? I know for a fact it's available in VA, WV,MD,PA,DE, and southern NJ. They may not want you to know so that you finance at a higher rate unless you tell them you are getting x% at your bank and can they beat that. Let us know how it goes. Which Sienna are you interested in?

Just a tuneup for the first true football game of the year this Sunday. When was the last time the Pats were in Dallas?

Pats won, but the offense seemed a bit out of sorts. And still, 34-17... I guess all you have to do is shut down Moss to hold the Pats to 34!

Someone ain't gonna go 16-0... (And unless Big D reverses fortunes tonight, it won't even be an issue!).

I've been eyeballing the 2008 Accord Coupe for weeks now, calling and emailing dealerships like crazy. This past weekend I got a call from one New England dealership that the car I wanted was in. (2008 Accord Coupe EX-L V6 with Navi in black). I went to this dealership today and got there about two hours before closing, saw the car, test drove it, and was offered a full $1000 off MSRP as part the holiday weekend sale. $1000 off on a brand new 3 day old 2008 top-of-the-line Accord Coupe! I would've been fine with paying full MSRP (as other dealerships aren't even budging)

I was ready to buy, when some lady customer came in to screw it all up!!!! She wanted the exact same car. The salesguy who was helping the lady kept bothering my salesguy about getting the keys to the car to let her test drive it. My salesman kept telling him that she was too late and that he got a sure buyer in me. I was about to sign a deposit check for the salesguy when the manager started to play BS & games with me. At first, he tried to change the price by claiming that the holdiy weekend sale of $1000 off the 2008 Accords was only for the sedan version. I pointed to the salesguy that the sign said "$1000 off 2008 Accords" not "Accord Sedans". The salesguy agreed with me and promised to stick with the discount no matter what. Then, when I told them I had prefinancing with a credit union, he said that the manager couldn't accept outside financing. The car was to be paid in full or be financed through the dealer if I wanted to leave with it. I asked the salesman if this was usual practice, and he said "no". They sell cars to people with their own financing all the time. However, he couldn't give me a reason why the manager wasn't letting me use my own financing. They brought in a credit application and basically gave me an ultimatum: either I finance through them or they were not selling the car unless it's paid in full. Obviously, I was pissed, let the salesman know that, and left. I could tell they wanted to give the car to the lady customer who was still inside the dealership when the doors closed. She was like a hyena, reading to spoil the kill of the lions. Ok, lame analogy, but whatever.

In truth, the lady probably offered more money or agreed to finance there. But it was unfair because the salesguy had already filled out the initial deposit agreement! This was ridiculous. Also, I couldnt help but think about the fact that I am a young Asian guy while the other customer was a middle-aged Caucasian woman. Whether or not the age and race cards were played, I was basically shoved away from buying the car right then and there.

I was angry, yet relieved at the same time. If these were the type of people I would be dealing with after having bought a car from that dealership, I think I'm better off without the purchase.

Another way to look at this is that the woman saved you some money - just wait a bit and prices will drop.
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
This is no different than real estate sales, when multiple people are bidding for the same house. Price goes up until someone drops out. The dealership is maximizing its profit, and you would do the same if you owned the dealership. If you were buying a vehicle that was out of favor, they'd be lowering their price to try to close the deal with you, and you would be the beneficiary of that situation.

If there was no demand for this vehicle, and the dealer had many of them on the lot, economics would predict that you'd both get your deals. However with constrained supply (at least at this point in time and place), they sold to the highest bidder.

Just wait a bit, you'll see other vehicles and have other opportunities to make a deal.

I am going to assume that TMC is allot like FMCC and that if you are a supportive dealer they will stretch more for you on questionable paper then they will for a dealer who does not support them.

By support I mean send them the majority of there business, not just the stuff they need help on, floor planning with them, sending them Used business also, letting them look at every app, etc, etc.

Thats what we do and I get stuff bought at FMCC that my special finance places won't touch.
