Just got back from dinner with you know who so I know it ain't her but I did get a real kick out of that post. :):D:)

However, this could have only come from about one of five or six people here and since Edmunds doesn't allow dual identity posters, I've ask 'tidester' and/or 'kirstie' (who ever is on duty now) to run a tracer on this. When you're found you will be charged twice as much for dues at your next billing. :(

ha ha... get him mrsjmonroe. We'll all pitch in and buy you that diamond necklace if you whop him a couple times with that infamous cast iron skillet you have.

non-Mrsjmonroe, if I didn't know better I'd say tidester is having a little fun because you are late with your "Tidester Fan Club" membership dues again. :P

A young girl (16 years old) comes on the lot with her mother in tow and says she wants to look that new yellow G-5. We look at it and I'm trying to get a feel of the situation from mom and she is not saying anything. Girl is yapping 90 miles a minute. I ask her if she wants to test drive it she says she only has a learners permit. I say I have a license and so does your mom. Mom says she doesn't want to go. 2 miles into the drive she says "I'll take it!" I ask her if her mom is going to co-sign for her. She says "no, I'll just write a check." Sure enough she's been saving up checks from soc.sec. from her father passing away when she was 6. She paid full sticker and bought ex-warranty. I'm still waiting for another one just like her to show up.

What I want to know is why mrsmonroe and jmonroe live 680 miles apart? Mysteries like that make me mad, man! ;)

Seriously, and as funny as it was, let's stick to using a single user name so as not to conflict with our Terms of Use.

I don't think a 16 year old can validly sign a contract in any state in the USA. I only hope mom signed off on that.

And any case, if the 16 year old wrote the check, she could have probably made you take the car back after wacking the front suspension into a curb, even if mom had signed off on it.

I had posted earlier that we had some wheels and tires stolen. Well over the course of a week they came back a few times. They came to the well one time to many last night. One of Metro's finest sat and watched them jack the Expedition up, put the blocks under it, load the tires and wheels up and as they pulled off they stopped and arrested them.

They hit us for a total of 8 units at an average of $2000 a unit. I would guess that if they can prove they are the ones that did it all 8 times then a total of $16K in stolen merchandise should get these folks some pretty good jail time jail time.
  • jipsterjipster Member Posts: 6,299
Hopefully the cops will get a search warrant and check the lair where those punks are probably storing previously stolen tires and wheels. They don't sound very bright hitting the same location so often within a short period of time. Unfortunately, they'll probably get off with probation and a fine... promise to repay.

There's no contract to sign. She paid cash for the car. It's not a handgun. If you pay cash in Kentucky you don't even need proof of insurance to drive it away. She did, however, register it in her moms name for insurance purposes.

    They'll probably sue the dealership.

No kidding, their claim will be that we were enablers due to the fact that we had no security in place and that if we would have had a fence around our dealer then they would not have had access therefore would not have been tempted to steal from us.

Kind of like the lady who wanted to sue us because no one told here that a 6 cyl Contour was peppy (her words) and that is why she got 3 tickets in 5 days. If we would have told her then she would have bought a 4 cyl.

Now we have you sign something that states we are not responsible for what you do with the car once you leave the lot.

One time, we were having a super sale and had a giant godzilla outside the dealership. Someone stole it overnight. We caught some of it on camera, but not enough to catch them. They just stopped along the side of the road and drug the thing across the shoulder and put it in their van.
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
You have to admit, that is a funny gig. I actually fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

Having a very computer savy and practical-jokes wife myself, it would not be beyond reason that she would get an ID and do that to me....so figured you might have the same.

Probably will be back up to Pgh in a couple of weeks, having to move MIL's nursing home.

A couple of years ago we had an unhappy enviormentalist come on the lot one night and key every panel of 6 brand new Range Rovers. Our security system (since upgraded) only caught fuzzy pictures of the culprits vehicle. This malicious protestor of SUVs was driving a Ford F-150 of some vintage. What was the saying about those in glass houses?

Those Enviro folks are crazy. I was born and raised in timber country and they would go climb trees and not come out of them. But one real dangerous thing they would do is go into a stand of timber and drive 12 inch metal stakes into trees. When the blade in the saw mill hit that stake it would explode and send pieces flying all over. Usually hurting some one and occasionally killing them. Now trees go through metal detectors to prevent that from happening.

I wonder what would have happend if you had stationed a Black Bear at the base of the tree. Would that have been called "Just Deserts"?

A couple of weeks ago some stupid kids were street racing and lost control of their car. It spun out slid over a ditch/sand berm and hit a LR2 parked on the edge of our lot. It didn't do a lot of damage but it did enough to probably require a door replacment. Some woman saw the whole thing happen but it was late at night and raining so she only got a partial plate and a very vague description of the vehicle.

So far the police haven't found them yet.

About 5 years ago we had a row of Discoveries parked along the edge of our lot. One morning we awoke to find all the lug nuts on the spare tires had been loosened ready for a quick snatch. A cop hung out for a couple of nights. They must have driven by and given up. We then installed wheel locks on all Discos.

    Very clever, Tidester. :surprise:

Month is almost done and I'm excited. I'm ready to move onto the high line. GM at Porsche is understanding and is happy to let me finish out the month for bonuses.

I've planed out though. I'm sitting at 17.5 with only a little bit working. 2 done deals tomorrow and another split on Sunday puts me at 20. I need 1 more after that for insurance and I'm good to go. Nice month.

I'm slightly worried about November, but we'll see how that goes. Peaace!

A salesman explained to me that they can't sell cars at invoice because of their double pack. He explained that double pack= Inv + 2%(for owner) + 2% (for managers). So in theory he said the lowest they could sell cars for was INV + 2% unless you could convince the owner to give up his 2%.

I never heard of that but that I guess would be a good reason for selling cars at INV + 2% assuming the managers would be willing to give up their share. :confuse:
  • dino001dino001 Member Posts: 6,191
Why not 3%, 1%, or 25% for each? A "policy" of automatic markup, is fine as long as there are enough customers to support it. If so, they just found minimum markup that sustains the store's sales levels. If not, let them have all those unsold cars on the lot. All you can do is say "OK, I'll take it", or "See ya, call me when your owner gets fed up with all those cars left on the lot".

Bought my car last weekend at invoice price. Several dealers were willing to match the price. He just wants to make more money off you.
  • lrguy44lrguy44 Member Posts: 2,197
Are we discussing the same car with the same equipment in the same market area?
  • verdugoverdugo Member Posts: 2,288
I was just telling him that they don't *have* to do anything. If the market supports the price, then by all means pay it. But a rule that they have to charge Invoice + 2%? That's not true.
  • lrguy44lrguy44 Member Posts: 2,197
That may be the minimum they can sell the car for and does not automatically mean the cars will be sitting there unsold.
  • mrsuzukimrsuzuki Member Posts: 58
That could just be what the dealership charges the sales person before they make anything more than a mini. I would ask the salesperson what their mini is. More than often than not, a place with that big of a pack on a new car, has a pretty good mini, if not the sales person needs to find a new dealership. Unless it is a high line store or something like that. A 15000 car prob only has a 1000 or 2000 mark up over invoice. If they are charging 4% over invoice in pack, no one will ever make over a mini. But if its a 80000 BMW there is more like 10k of mark up and everyone can be happy.

It appears that they have a UAW for the sales folks in that dealership
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
I was at a Toyota dealership talking with one of their salesguy. We were talking about a Chevy dealership that he worked for and that I bought a truck from some years ago. He said minis paid $75.00. He agreed with me when I told him his GSM was a donk with his "no exception" rule on credit forms filled before giving any pricing. He said combined with the double pack and the credit form as his reasons for being at the Toyota store.

I also remembered that Chevy store as an acquaintance of mine was in F&I and back in 2005 when I was looking for another truck told me he could get me one at MSRP since taking his new position as an ASM. Had a hard time beleiving what I was hearing and asked him why MSRP was such a good deal when he explained that I had qualified for 3K in rebates making MSRP minus rebates a better deal than INV+ the double pack. Thanks but no thanks...

You have to admit, that is a funny gig. I actually fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

That was more than funny it was hilarious but it may get me in trouble if I don’t stop thinking about it.

About an hour after I read it I thought about it while we (you know who I’m talking about) were watching TV and I started to laugh. This happened again and she said, “what is so funny” and I said, “it’s something I read on Edmunds, you wouldn’t understand but everyone on that site thought it was pretty good”. A little while later I thought about it again, laughed again. Finally she said, “cars…men actually think comments about cars and buying cars is funny…yeah…you’re hanging out with an intelligent bunch alright”. If you think that’s bad, she goes on to say, “the next time I’m at the desk, I’m going to see if anything there is so funny to me”. :surprise:

If I go down over this I’m going to find the guilty one if it’s the last thing I do.

...a couple stole a 2004 Honda CRV from a lot in S. New Jersey and got into a 100 mph+ high speed chase with the local police. The police called off the chase, but the couple managed to crash the CRV into a thick tree three miles down the road. The CRV was on its side wrapped around the trunk. The male driver was killed and the female passenger in in the hospital in critical condition.

Early this morning, a couple of kids were in a 2003 BMW 3-Series and hit two metal poles on Rising Sun Avenue and Knorr Street in NE Philly. The car bounced off the poles, went airborne, landed on its roof, and slid down the pavement. A female passenger was killed, another female passenger is in the hospital, and the 20 year-old male driver escaped with a few cuts and bruises. Among other charges, the driver was arrested for underage drinking. His life is pretty much over.
