Joel, I sent the email and minutes later talking to the wife, she said, “Lets go to Titus Will and drive the Taurus again” :confuse: Go Figure.
The good news is, she wants to look at cars
I do? I thought my resale value couldn't get any worse driving a Buick, now I come to find out I've been driving a Hyundai (cringe).
Actually mac, I think you have me confused with the other "Team Jipster" member who drives a Hyundai. That would be jmonroe (current holder of 15 demerits)

Nothing at all. I think Hyndai has come a long way... and they have arrived. The quality and reliability seems to be equal with the big guys now. The Hyundai name perception is changing for the better, as it did for Toyota and Honda when they first started out. Resale value will likely improve.
150k and 130k miles? I thought you were close to buying a new car about 6 months ago? :confuse:
It was a chore to get him to just turn the rotors as they wanted to replace them, even though they would still have been within specs. I just had them put on new brake pads and turn the rotors.
Please don’t take this the wrong way.
I can’t understand why you would reward them with doing work for you when you already knew about their credibility.
I realize that going somewhere else would have been an inconvenience but doing this and letting them know why is the only way to stop this kind of behavior. If the guy ahead of you did this, maybe you wouldn’t have had to face this yourself. I call this the ‘trickle down effect of doing business with the wrong people’; buying, repairing, etc. it all applies.
If you know how to do this kind of work, doing it yourself would have been less of an inconvenience than taking the car somewhere else anyway. That’s why I do the easy stuff like this myself.

Hmmm, weren't you preaching this a couple months back
Ford's made some good progress and now with more cash, maybe they can finally turn things around, although the economy will not help.
I thought you a few weeks back. I picked up a rental at the airport and they gave me a Montero. Nice little car, but it a had a 4 cyl that made it almost unsafe to drive on freeways. Good gas mileage, but merging and passing were a bit dicey. Have to admit, I have not driven a 4 cyl Camry or Accord in many years, so I have no reference.
And I know it's just me, but two things I won't do on my cars is brakes and crawling underneath while the vehicle has to be on stands, ramps are OK, but not jack stands.
I realize that going somewhere else would have been an inconvenience but doing this and letting them know why is the only way to stop this kind of behavior. J, you're right, but I don't think it would have changed their behavior. They make too much money doing unecessary repairs and it works enough to lose the customers that catch them on it. It's like the screamer ads and aggressive sales tactics. Works enough of the time to warrant teh fall out as a cost of business.
I'm laying odds than when you get there you're going to forget all about the talk. And while you're at it, take greenpea with you. He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that would ruin a good beer session with talk :shades:

Appears to have been a deliberate attempt to mislead into having service done that was unnecessary, along with the resultant unnecessary expense. At the very least it revealed sloppy laziness on their part. Surely this ruse was not the first time this has happened with this shop. Won't be the last as long as they get away with it.
It’s not just you, a lot of people think that doing a brake job is beyond them. All that’s needed is the will and to have someone show you a time or two. It’s a lot easier today with pads than it was years ago with brake shoes and all the springs that went with them. In fact that could be dangerous if you didn’t have the right tools. Like the time when I was home on leave and decided to replace the front brakes on my 56’ Chevy.
They didn’t have to be changed, it could have waited until I got back to the base and took it to the Hobby Shop but, nooooo, stubborn jmonroe decides to do it with a pair of long nose pliers instead of spending a few minutes and a few bucks (probably about 2 bucks in 1961) going to the auto parts to buy a spring removal/installing tool. Big mistake and I learned well from it. You see, the long nose pliers that I had a two hand death grip on, slipped off the return spring and I smacked myself in the mouth, HARD. When I realized I was bleeding and my lip was starting to swell I went upstairs to get some ice cubes. My father was in the kitchen and started to laugh saying, “I thought you were changing brakes, what’s the other guy look like”? This is one of the reasons why I’m a firm believer in having the right tool for the job. It’s a lot safer having them and the job can be done right.
You should give it a try, you only need a couple wrenches and some knowledge to pull the calipers on these new machines. I know you can do it.
About those jack stands, I don’t like the idea of working under them either.

When the car arrives the dealership's owner refuses to accept and prep the car. The dealer from MA is on the phone and tells this so called owner that he too spoke a person who said he represented the owner and had agreed to prep the car for $500. The MA dealer said who is this guy "Jackson" who agreed to prep the car. The owner replied, dam that must've been my son.
Nothing wrong with Hyundai. I posted in another forum about the eye opening I had last tuesday. I sold an 07 Santa Fe and while at the store looked at their other offerings. I came away very impressed. It's a shame they have to put those big rebates to move them. Doesn't help with the resale value but I guess it doesn't matter if you plan on keeping the car until the wheels fall off.

Hey, I own 5-count 'em-5 American products powered by IC engines: my Wrangler, a Cub Commercial ZTR mower, a Dixon ZTR mower, a Bunton push mower, and a Merry Tiller roto-tiller.
That said, everything else came from Shindaiwa or Stihl. And the Cub does have a Kawasaki engine(thank goodness). I'm afraid I've corrupted my wife as well; when we recently undertook the Massive Kitchen Remodeling Ordeal all but one of the appliances she selected were built by either Bosch or Miele... :P

I'm safe, it appears.
I was 16 and broke as usual. I wa so broke that I bought my brake shoes used at a junkyard! Vise Grips are a wonderful thing and that is what I used to pry the return springs off.
For the little hold down springs I used pliers I think.
A lot of bloody knuckles back in those days!
I remember I had some old car and it blew a rear axle seal. The grease got all over the brake shoes but I was too broke to buy new ones. I soaked them in kerosene and lit them on fire in the alley behind my parent's house Talk about smoke!
Ah, the hungry years...
I'm safe, it appears
Are you kidding? With a name like pinhead... you're automatically in. Besides, I think jmonroes days are numbered. He's already on triple secret probation for excessive demerits. As hard as he tried, Richard was just unable to achieve any significant results with jmonroes reprogramming.... just too stubborn I suppose.
p.s. make sure you drive one of these for better fuel economy:
Yeah not to long ago we were looking for new rides. But we got to thinking that our current daily drives are running very well so we are putting off buying anything new for a while. This will allow us to put even more away for the down payment.

Our 00 Accord will hit 150K this week.
Now I replaced the 02 Ody at about 120K because I was getting nervous have gone through one tranny. It had gone through one and I got antsy. So I replace it with an 04 CPO. For my trouble I've got a roof rack, power sliders and a monthly payement. Hmmmmm.
HUH !!!

Have you guys seen this happening? Does somebody come in looking for a Lincoln and go home in a Focus? How about optional equipment? Are people putting fewer expensive goodies like nav systems on their cars? Are people walking out of the Lexus dealers and buying those throw-aways instead?
I would imagine that high-liners like Moo have clients who don't feel the economy but some of the high-mid lines like Honda might be feeling some of this.

Does that mean I am on the " special bus "?

I really wanted to know what the negotiating tactic would be. But I got lost in my own imagination. After what I pictured she would have free lube jobs for the life of the car.

To tell you the truth our business is no better or worse then it has been for the last 4 years.
We sell big SUV's every day and the sale of our good MPG cars has really not jumped like one would think. We are getting a little bit of plus business from people who think it is smart to trade for a smaller car but not enough to make our Focus and Fusion supplies low.
If I would have to pick one line that is down I would say that it is the work series trucks, the base F150's. Usually we sell a bunch of them but with the housing market in limbo those guys are not pulling the trigger like they used to.
People blamed the slow Jan and Feb on the economy. I blamed it on the fact it was Jan and Feb, it is slow every year during that time. We are having a decent March and will have a good April playing the fact that we are moving to our new store May 1 and every car we sell is one less we have to move,
Vise grips are my favorite tool. They can take ant plate off. Even when you sometimes have to rip the plat off. My only other tool is the 4 in 1 screw driver. And I ussualy just use that for putting plates on. I love these guys with 18 volt Dewaltz power drills... :confuse: Or some guys have whole socket sets. It cracks me up.
GP
I have toi agree with Joel
People buy what they want. We just extend the term to make it fit their budget but we have already had this discussion.
In my opinion I think we have already been through the recession and I think we are on the way out of it.

LOL That brought back a memory of a trip I took to NYC is the mid 70's. I passed a theater in Times Square which was showing a movie called "LUBE JOB". I regret not taking in the show and learning some basic car care tips.

You are correct. When I went into jmonroe's system, the bolt was stuck on "Tightwad Attitude". I couldn't budge it. The light on the compartment containing "Car Incentives" kept blinking a message saying, "No new cars will be purchased here." There was also a "Miscellaneous Compartment" with a message saying, " Give wife no new purchases." The only positive system message said, "New tools welcomed here." When I closed jmonroe's system, a recorded message stated, "Cannot be reprogrammed until the self-destruct button is engaged in the year 2090." I'm afraid that he is a hopeless case.
