Really? Don’t get so mushy. The second cordless drill I bought in the mid 90’s was a Dewalt 14.4 volt. Just a few weeks ago when I received the Craftsman Club sale flyer I bought the 20 volt Lithium battery powered drill. I think I now have 5 of those battery powered drills (don’t tell Mrs. jmonroe). You are probably asking why so many? Because I don’t like to spend the time changing from drill bit (several sizes) to counter sinking bit to screw driver bit (straight /Phillips) etc. It takes the fun out of doing the job when you waste time doing that.
Or some guys have whole socket sets.
And then there are some that have more than one of each (SAE and metric) 3/8 and 1/2 drive. :surprise:
It cracks me up.
Still cracked up? Or jealous? Hopefully not in love.

Got my freebie card filled out with the dealer code, so I can submit for my $100 gift card. Sat in the IS, GS and ES, but resisted the temptation to drive. Fair number of customers, but they still seemed way outnumbered by salespeople.
They even had a CPO 2005 IS300 5 speed on the floor. If they existed back then when I was buying, I might have bought it. Smelled like a smokers car though.
IS was too tight. GS not bad, but pricey. The ES was actually very comfy, but probably drives like my sofa. It would be nice to have perforated leather with heated/cooled seat though.
One thing that bugs me is that for the IS and GS, they only (and this is for the entire NE region) have AWD models. If you want RWD, you either go way south, or special order (so I doubt there is any deal to be found). ANd the massive hump behind the gas pedal on the IS would be a true deal breaker for me.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
The ES is a glorified Camry/Avalon. And yes it does ride like a sofa. I like the ride on the Avalon and Camry better. The ES seems to be completely isolated from the road and the driver.

Right now we have one making the rounds at the Auo Shows. Its called the Explorer America Concept. It is not slated to be built yet but it is looking positive.
In my opinion we really don't need it. With the Edge doing so well and the Flex on the way I think we have that market covered. The Explorer has been colder then a well diggers [non-permissible content removed] since the Edge came out.
I'm afraid that GP is much like most of the 20-somethings I work with every day, in that their knowledge of pop cultural history goes back to about 1985. This is not meant to be a slam, just an impartial observation. I often take a survey at the beginning of each semester where I ask my students to rank their top 3 American films of all time (like the American Film Institute survey). You don't want to see their responses! For them, a "classic" (meaning "historical") film is ET from 1982. Then again, my knowledge of films from the 30s 40s and 50s was pretty spotty when I began college in the mid-70s. I'll never forget the exchange I had with a group back in the early 90s. I was recounting how much "The Birds" had scared me as an impressionable 6-7 year old. I could see a look of bafflement being expressed and figured, well, they have been exposed to so much more frightening imagery in the intervening years. Imagine my horror, when I discovered that they thought I was referring to a movie called "The Burbs"--a film made 25 years after Hitchcock's film. The upside is they must think that I am really young...or they just can't count.
At least their knowledge of automobile history is a little broader. perhaps because they actually see older cars more regularly. I do get the occasional student owner of a 70s El Camino or 80s Jeep or Bronco. Had one student who drove a well used, but still loved GTO. My favorite: an early 70s Vespa.
"On the whole, I'd rather be in Philadelphia." Is that the quote?
Groucho is the attribution that I've always heard for the "Club" quote.

very very dartlopnik :shades:
If you'd like to be scared again, the Birds is on TCM, April 1st at 8 PM.
Might be a good class project before the school year comes to an end. Then in the fall you can ask your students how many of them spent some time in a quaint ocean town during the summer.

Think I might celebrate tonight?
The morning starts with me always getting up first and going to the curb to get the paper (BTW, whatever happened to delivering it to the door? That’s what I did for years when I delivered papers), while Mrs. jmonroe is still getting her
handsomebeauty rest. I put the paper on the kitchen table so it’s where I can get to it after breakfast. Since you know who isn’t up yet, I make my own breakfast. I’m not complaining, I’m just commenting. As I turn around from the stove and am on my way to the table to plop my eggs out of the pan onto my plate, there she is with the paper sprawled out all over the table There’s barely enough room for me to eat (now I am complaining)After I clear the table of my mess (I know better than to leave it there), I see she is looking at the sale inserts with all the pictures. I say, “can I please (note the courtesy?) have the part of the paper without the pictures”. She says, “wait a second, I’ll find the Auto section for you; like that section doesn’t have any pictures and you can read your “precious” Click & Clack article”. :surprise:
If I wasn’t in such DEEP you know what on “Team jipster”, with all those unwarranted demerits, I ‘d go to the head coach and ask him if it would be alright for me to send her over to the “Richard Re-programming Dept.”. I wouldn’t just dump this kind of a project on them. I’d warn them that they’ll have their hands full because this crap didn’t just start this morning.
To stay on topic, nothing of any great interest to report from the Click & Clack article. Just a couple (you never know today if this is a full commitment marriage or otherwise) with a turn signal problem only when it’s cold outside before the car warms up and a woman that doesn’t know how to drive in the snow (big revelation there). :confuse:

I'm on my way with the family including grandson and parents to Mongolian BBQ. It's one of their favorites so I'm happy to oblige. Talk to you later. We are taking one Camry and one Corolla. Weather is kind of crappy, rain on and off BUT we will manage.

Wow... You just compiled all of JM's posts from the last 6 months in one paragraph. You were really were a teacher... :P
GP
Jm,
I am not sure if you are understanding the irony of my post :confuse:
I definately understand having a couple of drills for home projects because time is of the essence. Especialy for guys like you and me. We want to get the job done right and fast :shades:
I used to work for a plumber so I am pretty familar with working with many tools.
Now picture a salesman putting 2 screws on a plate that are about a 1/2 inch long. The holes are already pre-drilled. It takes a some of these guys long enough just to set the screw in the whole. Never mind if they don't have a battery ready and charged becuase someone might have unplugged the charger
A couple of turns with a screw driver does the same thing.
Now as a I may have said before taking some these old screw off that get rusted together in the metal clips.... I don't care what size drill you have you ain't getting those off. That is when these guys come and ask me for my vise grips.
GP
How about getting a LS :surprise:
gP
Sorry
It was funny because I read it out loud and one the guys now that you say that did mention the same thing you just said. And I do remember Jimmy mentioning Groucho also after I read it.

What's lucky for the car salespeople around here is that they at least don't have to shovel snow.
Black being the optimum color at night, the valet guys commented that this was the nicest looking vehicle in their lot. Course I have to give credit to Zaino which optimizes and enhances black like you wouldn't believe. Course the rims, 1/3 drop and custom front end helped a bit too. All I told the valet guys was this truck is 6 years old and I'm in need of a new one especially since this one just turned 40K miles.
Once when picking up a part for the Denali, I had pulled into the dealers lot and a salesperson came up to me asking what polish I used as this old SUV outshined the 2008s on their lot. He said they need to use the same polish on the rigs that they were trying to sell.
Zaino is an amazing product. No this is not spam though off topic. And oldfarmer, it's too bad you didn't decide to use zaino on that new car of yours. Most zaino loyalist will tell the dealer NOT to prep the exterior of the car as they put a lot of surface scratches on a brand new vehicle. That's one thing a zaino loyalist could not tolerate.

I understand where you're coming from. Having the right tool for the job is where I'm coming from. I've use Vise grips plenty of times. To remove rusted in place screws on license plates it's a good tool for that job. Once when I was on a latter and too lazy to go down and get the hammer that I dropped, I used Vise grips to hammer in a nail on a piece of facia that was sticking out before I painted. Of course I'm glad I didn't drop the wood filler to fill the nail hole. Spit wouldn't have done it.
Sometimes you just gotta go with what you have.

BTW, what do you teach? Back in the late 80's I drove a 1966 Ford Galaxy sedan, top of the line, to school each day. Instead of my students admiring this emerald green with a cream colored top and interior as an antique, they asked me why I couldn't afford a nicer car. Those poor little dummies didn't know that I had a new Buick Park Avenue in the garage at home. Children are so funny. :surprise:

Did you--"Get, up, get out of bed, drag the comb across your head?" GP will have to consult one of his colleagues to get the reference. Later, did you love to turn anyone on? By that I mean hook someone up with a new Toyota, of course.
By the way, I saw a commercial that absolutely seemed directed at you. It was for the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. The tag line:
Life...To be continued.
I usually don't get very excited by the jingles that the ad companies concoct to get us to covet products, but this commercial struck exactly the right chord.

I'm a Professor of Art at a large state university in OK. Since film can be a form of art, student's choices about what constitutes a great film are relevant. I also ask them to name three books that they have read, their favorite book and, in their opinion, the greatest American novel. The (non)responses I get to those questions are much scarier than anything from Hitchcock.
My first car was a 1969 Ford Galaxy 500 (four door). I inherited it from my father and drove it for most of 1975, but when I went away to college in the fall (no cars allowed) my folks got tired of looking at it in the driveway and sold it. Alas, it was never really my car. My recollection is that it was a block long and a 1/2 block wide with a trunk that would please any mafiosa. Since it was powered by a substantial V-8 it had plenty of get-up-and-go.

Even though you've been skating on thin ice, since the inception of "Team Jipster", I may be able to solve your problem without having to re-program your wife. I get the "Click and Clack" column on Friday mornings. For a small fee, I will have it drop shipped to your abode next day air. This early arrival will help avoid the dreaded table sprawl problem. :shades:
But, we seem to be getting different columns. This Friday's column dealt with some lady who thought human hair was growing out of her tailpipe. Of course this problem was like gold to "Click and Clack", as if provided them free range for flip remarks and brotherly insults. Turned out a human body hadn't been stuffed into her Civics 20 year old cars exhaust system, the insulation in her muffler had managed to break free from rusted out innards. .
i saw the quote on a jalopnik thread about dodge darts
Though you are a 30's Something, you need to record W.C. Fields into your memory bank. He was the originator of movie comedy, and the first stunt man of real consequence. His son, Calvin Fields, was an actor of the 1930's and 1940's. Unfortunately, he never enjoyed half the fame that his father did. W.C. Fields wasn't just an actor; he was an artist who choreographed all of his own scenes. He was truly the Master of the Black and White Film Age.
To stay on topic, W.C. Fields was quite a car buff himself.

6 years old is OLDER? Gee, that's usually the age that I buy them at.
"...it's too bad you didn't use Zaino..."
You know, I started to read the Zaino board and it sounded just like a cult brainwashing session. So I went over to the slightly less obsessed detailers on the store bought wax board. If you are as devoted as the rest of the Zaino crowd I bet I can get you to come over to polish my car for me, right?
"...zaino loyalists will tell the dealer NOT to prep the exterior..."
Dealers still do that? When I made my recent new car purchase they gave it a very bad car wash, handed me the keys and sent me on my way. No follow-up call, no CSI, nothing. Maybe I should be grateful.

I still see him as my first little boy. I thank God he have me three great kids that have brought a lot of joy to my life.
Gogi, I woke up, fell out of bed, but skipped the comb across my head, grabbed my coat, got my hat, made the bus in seconds flat. Found my way upstairs and had a snack and somebody spoke, and I went into a dream. Ah, ah aa.
Love that song. History tells us that that verse was actually an unfinished song that Paul suggested be put in the middle of "Day in the life" it sure sounds like it was originally a part of the song. Well, enough of Beatles history.
Oh, before I forget, "Stairway to heaven" is not about Mary Jane, or other drugs but about a very rich lady that has not led a good Christian life and is now making amends and hopes she will get to heaven.
Ok, boys and girls. That concludes our daily Rock'n History lesson for today.

I got that article last Sunday. Now I see your problem, you’re a week behind me and can’t understand where I’m coming from. Don’t feel bad, Richard is a lot further behind than that and he doesn’t have a clue. :P
Turned out a human body hadn't been stuffed into her Civics 20 year old cars exhaust system, the insulation in her muffler had managed to break free from rusted out innards.
I was going to comment about that Civics problem but I knew isell would jump me for saying anything negative about a Honda. Even though that Civic was getting old I never heard of other cars that age having that type of a problem. He’d probably say the reason I never heard of it is because other cars that age had their mufflers replaced long ago or they aren’t on the road any more.
I now have him figured out and you too for that matter. It’s just that I have to back up to be on your page. :shades:

For my Red Brawn Titan I use Meguiars NXT which I recommend for a daily driver. Course seeing how your dealer prepped your car I would suggest claying the car while washing with Meguiars Gold car wash. I prefer the NXT over zaino for any color other than dark blue or black. There was a comparison made here:
NXT vs Zaino
Good luck!!
To keep it on topic after I had explained to the salesperson about zaino he said forget it as their prep people would in no way do all that to get a car to look good after the sale.
I guess that means I can't expect you to be coming over any time soon, right?

I will second your opinion on "The Thing". Nearly scared me to death when I was a kid. Did you know that James Arness played The Thing? GP would not know him either.
I drove by the Lexus store earlier today to take a look at the LX 570. Nice but hard on gas. Also saw a new LS 460 priced at $61,500. It was discounted about 3M. Not a demo. Almost a bargain.

There are too many experienced guys around here. I'm thinking I saw it in 51' or 52'. I wasn't scared a bit. Whenever I thought something was going to happen I went to the refreshment stand and bought a nickel candy bar. I think I spent a buck at that movie doing that.

I find that the cars at the car shows don't even have a great finish, particularly under the harsh lights they use. I was just at the NY car show to see what's out there and I was surprised at how bad some of the finishes looked.
Oh well, I keep mine as nice as I can. Once you get the Zaino routine down it's great and the protection lasts through a NY winter. Have to love that protection and it looks great to boot.
Funny, I've seen hundreds if not thousands of old high mileage Hondas and I have yet to see this.
Must be the climate.
If you'd like to enjoy their upcoming season I wouldn't do that.
