    Thanks.

Now don't get your hopes up but what's the deal on yours? Color, etc?

A store simply makes a decision not to accept a nothing offer on a popular car.

Is that a reason to pout and get mad especially when another dealer offered to sell it for that price.

    Kinda makes you wonder?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,751
Unless the warranty covers the convertible top, I wouldn't worry about it, because that's about the only thing that may give you a problem within the warranty period AND cost you a good bit of $$.
I had 2 issues with my T5 that were covered under the extended warranty within 100k miles and those cost the warranty company about $350 total.

by the way, expect about 24 mpg, and premium is recommended.

Gray on tan interior so not quite as sharp as the blue on tan IMO.

    Pictures there

I haven't seen this car in person as it is at our Volvo dealer.

    Full listing

The other C70 with the manual tranny is still listed as incoming so no pictures of it. The computer says it is Nautic blue though with no mention of interior color.

I was thinking the same thing. Don't know why bvdj84 feels he was treated poorly. If they can't do the price... then they can't do the price. No reason to take it personal.

I on the other hand had very good service today at the dealership.

I was going thru some puddles on the expressway a few days ago, my Mazda MPV hit a decent sized puddle, then started shuddering badly as if water had gotten in a plug or ignition coil. I immediately thought coil, as the OEM coils Mazda put in their MPV's have a reputation for early expiration. I had Autozone read the code, came back misfire in cylinder #5.

Took it into the dealership today and was in and out in under an hour. The service advisor did a good job in explaining the problem. Asked if I had a trans. fluid change yet, which I already had. The repair was covered under warranty. Which would have been around a $130 job.

You have a manual tranny coming? Ooohh... keep me posted - unless you mean a new one which would obviously be out of my territory.

I'm about to look at the pictures...

The manual tranny one is a 2004 model as well but no mileage or price listed yet since it is not ready.

Also, its not a deal that no one will offer, it is a deal that other dealers are offering, and they simply come back to me, and say "No!" we cannot offer it. I reply, "so, you are going to let me walk right out the door, when I am ready to buy?"

Simple question. hope it will answer your confused mind, and mine as well.

Why don't you buy it from the dealer that is "offering" the price that you want? What is the point of going to the dealer that is "not offering" the price?

Is this some kind of high-school logic that everybody wants to date the girl that says " No" to a date?
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
Oh, well... do tell when it is. Years ago I had an exploding clutch issue on a Volvo but it was a 1969 and while it went through a couple only the original was remotely Volvo's fault. This was way back when somebody was "a god foreign car mechanic," even when he wasn't. Once I switched mechanics I never had a problem again.

I looked at that one you linked and then two others at different dealers in your group. Man oh man....

"you do own a Lexus and a Acura if I remember correctly just taking a little shot at ya "

    Doesn't everybody?

Yeah, but when I head into The Hub of the Universe, I usually take the T! I kinda know what you mean about the directions to the pizza shop. But, being South Shah, on the rare occasion I go to Logan (TF Green in Warwick, RI fan here ...) I take the Teddy Tunnel. And, of course, my chances!

Ya know, even with the price of gas about to nick me for $4/gallon, driving to DC and back was still less expensive than Amtrak or flying. Even w/tolls. Not counting wear and tear on the TL, of course... Just an observation.

And, New Haven for me was when I was resident of the Great State of Connecticut. Oh, so long ago. Go Huskies!

Tried to go home on the way back from DC. My, how things change... :(

(The Fairfield County Border Guards checked my tax returns for the last few years. They wouldn't let me off I95 as I would have cut the per capita in half!;) )

Yeah our Volvo dealer has a lot of good CPO cars as they are trying to be the number one CPO Volvo dealer within the next few years. I think they are 14th or something right now. We also have a smaller Volvo dealer that carries a few good CPOs as well.

Unfortunately we have a bunch of buttheads that don't know how to deal with the general public. We have them here too. It makes me wonder why people still go ahead and buy from them. Some of them outright lie to customers.

My "buddy" Frank sold a used Sienna to a young Hispanic customers. He worked them for two days. First night they were in together and took the van overnight. The next day he returned the van and did a little more negotiating. That evening the wife comes in by herself trying to get a better deal and he tells her this: "Look I went in there to fight for you. I got them to take $500.00 off the price. I've spent all this time with you so I have to be compensated for my time." So she says, "In other words you want a bigger commission right?" and Frank says. "Oh no ma'am I'm not on commission. I get paid a salary."
    image

Me and my buddy Tiny are in the next cubicle and hear every word and just shake our heads and roll our eyes.
After the customer is gone we see him outside and say: "So you're on a salary? How much are they paying you?" he laughs and thinks we are joking. "I had to sell a car." he says. And Tiny tells him "So you are saying it's ok to lie to a customer." more as a statement than a question. So Frank says "I didn't lie to her, I just stretched the truth a bit." and I say "It sure sounded like lies to me." and he walks away.

And for you baseball fans, here's a nice collector's card!

"...You drive a school bus oldfarmer...what's a kid gotta do to get kicked off nowadays?..."

The only time I was able to get a kid kicked off my bus on the spot was when a fine young man pointed a gun at my head and told me to "Get moving or I'll blow you away". The gun turned out to be a replica. I was not amused.

Speaking of guns, have any of the sales folks ever had a customer use a gun as a bargaining tool?

Funny we haven't seen anymore posts from him. Don't you think?

The guy that wanted the Honda at his price from that one dealer was correct. (Hey, somebody has to ease his pain).
Personally I go to the dealer with the best coffee. French Vanilla, Espresso, big ADM...fine. If I go to one with crappy coffee I wouldn't take the car for free. Customers are allowed to be picky, and so are salespeople. It's still a free country.

If you don't want my business, that's OK.
I had a dealer once tell me that paying cash was bad for him because he made less. Fine, later on you...or not.

Honda dealers (at least the one and only that I went to) were rude and cocky. I had a 4 yr old Mustang GT when GTs were hot. He acted like he didn't want it on his lot. Great. Checkered Flag Toyota (where Mack works) liked it on their lot just fine.
Traded for a 4Runner and my first stop on the way home was the Honda dealer. I said "manager here"? guy says yes, back there. I went in and thanked him for lowballing my Mustang and putting me in a 4Runner instead of a Pilot. He then came outside to see the 4Runner and question the benefits over the Pilot. Big mistake. 4Runner sells about 6 to every Pilot and for many reasons.
Sometimes a customer just wants to be right whether it costs more or not. Then sometimes they can be right and make a better deal.

"I keep getting treated horrible at my local Honda dealer! It drives me nuts, but I guess it is my own fault, because I keep going back to see if they are willing to do a deal."

Why do you keep going back to a dealer that treats you so bad?

    Are you kidding me? LOL...

Nothing for nothing but I have worked with retards like that before and the only thing it does is make the whole dealership look bad.

We had this one tard who started on presidents day weekend. Now granted we had pizza and sandwhiches delivered for customers to eat while they were here.

Only a one time special ya know what I mean.

Well 6 months later on his service walk I hear him telling the customers that we get bagels for breakfast and pizza for lunch for the customers.... Needless to say he didn't last long....

I had to say something to him because I knew one day I would her customer ask me "Where's the beef?" :P

"...I keep getting treated horrible at my local Honda dealer!..."

Maybe you are not "Honda material". After all, they can't sell to just anyone. They have the best cars in the world and they are probably worried that the average bum will screw up the look of their fine rides.

When I was looking for a sporty coupe I stopped to look at an Accord coupe. I had to beg the sales guy to re-attach the battery cables so I could see if the seat would go low enough for me to fit inside. The faces he made told me that I was not Honda material. So I left, weeping, and purchased a less exclusive car.

I suggest you do the same.

Well, I was at the mechanic's to pick up the Celica (fixing the AC) and mention the Volvo to him. He says "don't buy from that guy." Seems he's been known to buy accidents and fix them up himself. Enough of a question mark when added to my previous experiences like the two year Subaru to keep me away.

So, BR, if I go crazy you could get your chance yet....

If that four year old Mustang GT sat on thier lot for three months before they finally lost money on it when they dumped it at auction, I'll bet they didn't like it then!

Used car managers make decisions based on past experiences. right now, we have two nice Linclons on our lot and several Mustangs including a couple of convertables. They sit and sit....

A lot of times, it's not a matter of "not wanting my business". It's just that the deal doesn't make any sense.

No excuse for being "rude and cocky" but showing off your new 4 Runner afterwards to them kinds fits that catagory too, wouldn't ya say? ;)

make sure you take a good test drive on the stick C70. I drove a couple of S70s and a C70 of that vintage, and the stick/clutch combo was a big disappointment (and I am a long time stick driver, obviously!)

IMO, on that car, a geartronic AT is just better suited and nicer to live with.

richard was in here sticking up for teachers this weekend. The survey deal sucks for you guys. I am a teacher and would have a very difficult time giving perfect scores across the board.

Does it hold this way for service as well?

As I was leaving a Pontiac/GMC/Buick service center this morning, the adviser tells me about the survey I should expect. He tells me that any thing less than "Completely satisfied" on any question is a complete failure for them. There is a reminder stapled to the service ticket telling me to immediately call the service adviser if I even consider answering something other than "Completely satisfied" on any question.
