Close enough,.. and it beats driver dropping his cell phone in the toilet story. :P
Congrats on your baby boy!
That's why I was teasing him with the Mr. Spock reference. LOL. I would never be so foolish to debate him on science, but on emotions and fear, well, I'm the expert there.

Hey, it wasn't my cell phone that dropped in the toilet...I just said it happens a lot, from what I read it is women in public washrooms :P

Good grief! You'll still have 27 hours to spare. Some of us take it right up to the actual last minute.
Ah, if we could all just take the Geitner option. . .but we're among the great unwashed who actually have to follow the rules.

My CPA always said to mail the papers so they'd arrive 1 or 2 days before the deadline.

Two things: 1) e-file eliminates the USPS (a good thing) & 2) last I heard the postmark was the key, not the date the letter arrived.

That's the main thing. If she's happy, then it was a good deal.
Yes, the cell phones do serve a purpose. I'm glad to hear you say that, as a dad, you keep up with your kids. That's really important. I'm proud of you.

Not to worry. It's all in the name of "change".
Richard
Why pay to get my own money back or to pay my own due amount?
> last I heard the postmark was the key
It wasn't the postmark that was the goal; it was having the papers go in at the beginning of the large number of pays to make it less likely to get extra attention.
This was before efile existed or was even a dream.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
Time is not on your side.
Every month, a new book comes out and every month the value of that Tahoe drops.
Also, the price of gas ALWAYS go's up starting in May. If it go's crazy like it did last year, it will KILL the value of it.
Now repeat after me:
Just because my cell phone rings does not mean I have to answer it.
I am allowed to leave my cell phone home.
I am allowed to turn off my cell phone.

A lot of those prices stated are fiction and as gentle as I try to be in pointing this out, a certain host jumps down my throat.
The trouble is, people believe these numbers that I know never happened. and they go NUTS driving from store to store.
" I know some guy in Florida bought that car for XXXX"
And I don't know how much is fabrication or oneupmanship and how much is they just don't really remember what they paid?
Rule number 1. If you are in a bathroom and realize someone is on their cell phone immediately flush and flush often.

I had one guy one year come in at about 9:30-10:00 pm on April 15th to get his taxes done. Had him out the door with a paper return to drop off at the post office in just enough time to make it.

When you buy a new car you are usually offered insurance on the loan. In this case the fellow was buying a GMC truck and he bought the extra insurance in case he died for example and couldn't pay off the loan. Well, the fellow did die before the payments ended, he had paid over $1200 for the insurance, but the insurance company would not pay off, because he had a pre-existing health problem, not directly related but close enough. The fine print says they won't pay if there is a pre existing condition, but the dealers don't mention that. This happens a lot. What say you car people?
Also on the show they showed how extras at Best Buy could add $800 to a $1500 TV, if you buy a $400 warranty, $80 cables that they could buy for $12 on line, glass cleaner for $30, power bar for $300 (when an ordinary one would do but this one cleans the electricity) etc.
They also exposed those metal bracelets that get rid of illness's with their magnetic energy field. The expert says you could buy some metal at the hardware store and get the same result....nothing.
And, bacterial soap. It doesn't do any better cleaning than regular soap but costs more.

Actually, by being on topic... you are off topic. I think that's how it works around here.
They're nice, Isaac's that is. Grandson #2 is an Isaac, turned 5 yesterday.
May your Isaac give you as much joy as our Isaac has given us and I'm sure he will. The fun is just beginning.

Last time someone tried to sell me life insurance on a car loan I was single and 20 some years old. I told the guy if I die they can repossess my car.

1. No cable/satellite TV
2. No Internet connectivity. The neighbors had secure wi-fi
3. Poor cell coverage
Hated it the first day. Enjoyed the next 5 days immensely.

It is the consumers choice to purchase or not.

Obviously it is the consumers choice but that kind of attitude is part of the reason we are in the financial mess we are in. Because some business's don't have ethics. They sell toxic mortgages to school boards and say they are 100% safe investments. Bernie Madoff tells you he can make you double digits every year. People get a zero down low interest mortgage without understanding what they are getting into.
Maybe you are bright enough to get through the pitfalls of life but unfortunately there are a lot of people who are not equipped to get through life and make smart choices. Are they there just to be taken advantage of by unscrupulous business people.
Do you always read the fine print that closely. I haven't bought insurance for car payments but if I did I would think it would cover me if something happened, especially since you don't need a check up before taking it. By the way the same thing happens with mortgage insurance....they won't pay because of a pre-existing condition...WHY WOULD YOU BUY THE INSURANCE IF IT DOESN'T COVER THAT?
JB, are you in the insurance business?

Very good advice, but a lot of people just don't know that, and most couldn't understand what they are signing, even if they do read it before signing.
Car people, what percentage of buyers read all the fine print on a contract?
If everyone read what they are signing instead of believing what they were told, we probably wouldn't have the mortgage problems we do now. Even the banks that bought the stuff didn't know what they were buying.
It would be nice if the car dealer would say, here's the insurance package, I do want to point out it does not cover pre existing conditions. Of course everyone should read what they are signing, but I think there is a moral obligation to not lie by omission.

Chances are the F&I guy selling the policy has not read it either and has no idea what they are selling. Should he know? ABSOLUTELY - but the fact that he doesn't does not limit the responsibility of the buyer.
Bottom line. Consumers are responsible for what they buy and what they are signing their name too. It is one of my pet peeves when people blame others for their lack of diligence. If you are not sure what you are getting into and want to trust the person selling you a commissioned product - then buyer beware.
When I leased my last car, I didn't take the salesman word for it that AHFC had GAP coverage included in the policy. I called my insurance agent and had him review it.
Sure, there are things that we can be cavalier about purchasing, but there are others things where we need to be diligent in our own actions.
My favorite is the rental agreement for a car rental. Can you imagine reading that entire thing while in the long line at the busy airport terminal? The thing is freaking huge with tons of fine print. It would take a Philadelphia lawyer hours to read and understand the thing. And it's not like you have a choice either. What are you going to do if you don't like a clause, say no thank you and then go wait in another long line only to read their long contract?
Once the policy gets to underwriting they examine it. If you answered correct on all the questions you recieve notification that the policy is in effect and will not be reviewed until a claim is filed. Once the claim is filed they go back and do a medical history.
It is the same as if you were to buy a life insurance policy and told them you did not smoke to get a cheaper rate then died of lung cancer because you smoke two packs a day. The policy would not pay.
Sounds to me like one of two things happened:
1. The F&I guy did not ask the questions, just checked no and had the customer sign.
2. The customer lied on the health questions.
Either way, don't buy the insurance folks, it cost way to much. We stopped selling it about 7 years ago. I tell folks that ask about it to just go to there insurance agent and buy a policy that is equal to or more then the original loan amount for the length of the loan. I.E if you have a $30K loan for 6 years go buy a $50K whole life policy for 6 years. You can get it for a fraction of the cost of what the CL would cost you.
And that is the sneaky trick about the whole policy and IMHO that is why the insurance companies do it that way. The form is easy to fill out, with no examination needed. But, it isn't made clear that the claim is null and void if you had a previous medical condition, and sometimes it isn't even directly related. A person could die from a heart attack but might not get compensated because he has high cholestrol...and who can fight an insurance company?
Joel, I think your dealership is very ethical in advising people to buy separate insurance. You did a great job of explaining how the policy works too. I am always amazed at the quality of salespeople who are on this sight (I mean that in a good way).

That's what I mean, most people believe these contracts are standard issue and the government makes sure they are reasonable for the consumer. Imagine where we would be if the contracts weren't regulated...buyer better be really aware and take the contract to a lawyer. So, if most people just sign, it would be easy to pass the insurance form to the poor consumer and say, well it is mandatory that you also have an insurance policy on your loan.
If the form said in big bold letters, "THIS POLICY IS NULL AND VOID IF YOU HAVE A PRE EXISTING CONDITION EVEN REMOTELY TIED TO YOUR CLAIM" then I would say, it's up to the customer to read the contract before signing.
2017 MB E400 , 2015 MB GLK350, 2014 MB C250
There's a really good example. And you would probably have to bring your lawyer to the car rental place to understand it. What about your airline ticket, is there anyone who has ever read the fine print on it?
I will agree, everyone should read before signing. But, retailers should act in an ethical way too, and try to advise you as honestly as possible....otherwise there too much corruption and it's everyone trying to outscam everyone else.
How many people buy extended warranties at Best Buy? Most electronic stuff won't break down in the warranty period and if it does the replacement cost will be less anyway. It is basically extra profit for the retailer. Many people realize extra warranties are a scam, but to me it makes me distrustful of the retailer. We bought an LCD TV recently and they wanted to sell us $30 glass cleaner. They make it sound like you'll ruin your TV if you don't buy it. I am sure there are other things I can buy that will clean the screen for a lot less.
