But the interior and the drive and specs are supposed to be really good..

The interior is very nice. Even the back seats are adjustable and plenty of room in the back seat.

As for comparisons with the Lexus LS and MB E I really don't see it as being the same exact type of car. The Lexus LS and the MB E series seem to be more sportier while the Equus seems more of the (for lack of a better name) "old school" luxury. Either way coming in at 10-15K less than the LS the Equus is a strong contender.

You can't really consider the LS sporty can you? I mean the E-Class in certain versions sure but the LS has ZERO sporting intentions at all.

I'll try to be brief since we are off topic here. When I studied in India during the summer of 1977, I had my first exposure to Wren & Martin. The Indians learned English mainly from this series of books. Pros: good foundation, all of the rules, excellent reference source; Cons: not enough examples, too detailed, not a usage source. Would I want my child to learn from this book? Yes, along with Martin's Practical English Handbook. Why? Both are a disciplined approach that require you to use your head for something other than a hat rack. :)

I have a strong suspicion that you learned from this book as a Canadian. The British introduced it in India. Am I correct?

I said sportier not sporty (there is a difference).

Sportier then what an old school Buick or a Caddy DTS?

That is about the only cars in that class that would be less sporty then a LS.
  • snakeweaselsnakeweasel Member Posts: 19,592
Well let me ut it this way, in the LS one would most likely want to drive it. The Equus seems to invite you to the back seat to be driven.

That's exactly what I was talking about. The bias that still affects Korean cars.

The initial offerings were dismal and than a company called Daewoo burst on the scene and made things even worse.

They still bomb at the auctions and as used cars, even though they can me bought for thousands of dollars less than a Honda or Toyota, people just shun them.

Yes, I do believe tha gap has narrowed and I hope Honda is watching this and taking measures of maintain and increase their market share.

    Looks are strictly subjective.

I disagree on interior quality. Both do a good job.

I never said that neither one did a bad job. just that the Honda doesn't look as good quality wise as the new Hyundai.

The car I was really disappointed in was the Ford Fiesta.

I have owned various Mercedes, BMW's and most recently a couple of Lexus automobiles. My current 2006 LS 430 is by far the best automobile I have ever owned. Is it as sporty as my son's G37 Coupe, of course not, but it is taut, rattle free, and handles like a dream. I would also say that it is sportier than my two previous Mercedes.

I can't comment of the latest version of the LS.

Thanks, the whole city here is really excited. My sister is going to be dancing in the closing ceremonies, and a family friend of ours was running with the torch during the relay.

The bad thing is that business will slow down for the 2 weeks because everyone is preoccupied with the games. There are heavy traffic and parking restrictions in downtown as games organizers are encouraging folks to use public transit.

Otherwise lots of stuff to do and see without having to spend a dime on events tickets.

RIP to the Georgian luger Nadar. Too young to go.

Here in NY only criminals are allowed to have guns, so Mace is the best a woman can hope to carry.

"...an armed society is a polite society..."

That is so true of the south. When we were in Tampa we went to the shooting range for a little fun. The very polite southerners on either side of us were so polite that the had silencers on their machine guns. (True story) ;)

And did I mention that the cars don't rust?

" Doesn't look as good quality"

Again, subjective but if you feel that way others will too. Some will feel the opposite.

    I'm glad Hyundai has improved.

I would add eventually to that saying.

In both cases your momentum will carry you forward for a good while which is what we have seen happen with Toyota just recently and GM plus the other domestics in the past.

A lot of luggage? Nobody brings more really important stuff (crap) on a trip than my kids. I have an 18cu/ft cargo box I put on the roof rack.

"A rising tide lifts all boats"

Bad analogy! Tides are a zero sum game. Wherever the tides are rising, there are other places where they are falling. I prefer win-win games. :)

    Hey,

If the tide is rising where I am, that's all I care about!

Then there is..." Yesterday's hits won't win today's ballgames"

Just got home from Florida and heard an interesting ad on a Toronto radio station. Applewood Chev, Buick will give you breakfast or lunch if your car is in the repair shop for more than 45 minutes.

Seems like a nice touch :)

The interior seemed just so bland and looked cheap, the seat wasn't as comfortable as it should be. I was really excited about the Fiesta until I sat in it, just didn't work for me. I will spend the extra bucks and get a Sonata.

The 3rd row would come in handy with the kids. A cargo box on top? You do haul the luggage.

Of course you didn't mean anything by it. I'm Scottish and people rag me about being a tight [non-permissible content removed] all of the time. I never take offense. This political correctness is getting out of hand.

I was just wondering if you see many men buying cars for "the little woman" on Valentine's Day. Or would most women view that the same as Marge when Homer bought her a bowling ball with the finger holes drilled for him? :confuse:

And don't tell me you don't know who Marge and Homer are. ;)

"...I don't know who Marge and Homer are..."

Main characters in the "Simpson". Has been on TV for over 20 years.

Homer has been driving the same car for all that time. It must be a Honda to have lasted so long.

If you want a laugh go to YouTube and type in "Simpsons Canyonaro".
