I think this was a good deal and hope this helps others negotiate better deals! Could have saved another 20/month by declining the prepaid maintenance but caved in at the last minute knowing that I was probably paying around $200 more overall. Advertised price $30,880. 46k miles.Targeting $27k purchase price. going to offer $26,500. Came to that by taking the residual % from the example above, 49%. If original purchase price was near $58k, taking 10% off MSRP for a final price near $53k. 49% residual puts it at $25,970.
Am I off base in my thinking? Given that sedans aren’t the popular vehicle choices now, do you think my offer is reasonable?

The CPO status will add a few thousand to that number, me thinks (and, I think the dealer will agree).
Offer whatever you think is fair, then see what the dealer responds with.
Keep us posted; I've been starting to think that a luxury CPO may be my next vehicle, once my Jetta lease is up in 14 months.

Residuals are a percentage of the MSRP, not selling price. Also, lease residuals may not reflect real-world resale values. Certainly, not the residual on a 2018 model vehicle, when compared to a deal from three years ago.
