Hi. Is $280 a month for a Honda CRV LX AWD with only putting the first month payment and DMV fees down a good deal?

    Hard to say....

    MSRP?
    Selling price?
Lease term and miles per year?
    ZIP code?

    .00016 MF
    54%/57%/57% residual
    $1200 incentive

The $1200 will likely be accounted for in any selling price given.
The loyalty should be applied as a rebate/CAP cost reduction

This site is so great for ensuring you are well informed to negotiate a good deal!  Here’s the deal I secured today:

    2018 CR-V FWD EX-L (no navigation)
36 mos lease w/15K miles per year
    $360 per month

    MSRP $30545
    less $1,200 lease cash
less $2,425 dealer discount (estimate on my part)
    No trade In
    No money down

Lease includes all taxes, tags, fees, etc.

True no money down lease = not making first payment, negotiated that into deal = just 35 lease payments.

I am also received a check for $339.00 that dealer is giving me to make my final payment on a different lease that I’m turning in (didn’t trade as LEV is way above ACV) after I make final lease payment on it.

I'll guess you have to have a Honda registered at the address you will registering the new car at.

    The loyalty is $750.
But, it looks like you must have a maturing Honda Finance lease to qualify for it.

Hi, and thanks for the help. I'm looking at an '18 CRV LX AWD in 92009, dealer used the .00016 MF, and MSRP is $26645 (same as advertised national deal), but at a higher cap cost ($23819). the quote lists $595 as "adds to cap", but I believe the national ad includes the acquisition fee in the down ($2199). I've attached the quote, can anyone suggest a good strategy to get the payments under $200/mo? I'm ok with increasing the down a bit, but would prefer to have them lower the cap cost. Also to verify, is the residual 56% on a 36/15, and if so, 58% on a 36/12? I think that would help my #'s, since I only need 12k/yr.
Also, is general consensus that the 18's are better deals than '19's because of the MF? and I didn't find the LX underwhelming, but is the EX that much better?

    Thanks for any suggestions

    36/12 on 2018 CR-V LX
    .00016 and 56%
    $1200 lease cash

The $595 is the acquisition fee.

In CA, we recommend you only pay the first payment and DMV costs up front. Anything else only gives you the perception of a lower payment; it doesn't reduce the total cost of the lease.

And, you'll lose that up front cash if the car is stolen or totaled.

You should be able to get a better deal on a 2018, because of both the lower MF and the bigger discount you should be able to negotiate from sticker.

I'd suggest you test drive both the LX and EX to see if you notice the difference; that's the only opinion that matters.

Thanks Michael, so as a counter, I should try to reduce the capitalized cost, use the $1200 against the first mo. pmt and DMV fees, and go from there? The aquisition fee I thougt was rolled into the down, but that has to be paid up front as well? Trying to find the angle for this deal to make me pull the trigger, daughter isn't 16 for another 5 mos., but cheap '18's won't be around by then. Any suggestions appreciated.

I don't see any point in leasing a vehicle for someone that can't drive, yet. That's throwing money away.
As long as you are shopping an LX, even the 2019 has a low money factor. Just wait until June. If the CR-Vs aren't cheap, something else will be.

The 2018 CRV has notorious engine problems that have plagued sales. The 2018 sales and 2019 sales have slowed drastically. There will still be 2018's in 5 months. If not, then the 2019 lease will be just as attractive. You would be throwing away $1500 + right now.

The LX model uses a different engine, so no issues.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the logic in your comments, I think the wife and I were OK with having an extra SUV in the stable for a few months, she sold her Jag Fpace and bought a Tesla 3, so she kinda misses the extra cargo space (I know, first world problems. . . ) Daughter has her permit, so learning to drive on a $60k Tesla is stressful on the parents, (another weak argument for early purchase)
I saw the oil/fuel mixture issues with the CRV, but thought it was only in cold weather climates, and only on the turbos. Intentionally didn't drive an EX because I thought the LX was adequate for first time driver.
If I can get a cap cost at say $21500, I might just do it anyway, but dunno if that can be done.

    Again, thanks for the comments.

That's true. Residual is 3% higher on the EX

    EX: 1.5 turbo engine

The Honda market in SoCal is cut throat.

Does that $1888 include or exclude fees?

So, if you skip the $1888, the payment goes to $281/mo, before tax. Still, not bad for a $28K MSRP. But, you can shop that number all over SoCal to see if you can beat it. Maybe you can get the payment down.

  • [Southern California zip code 90630] I came across this ad for a Honda 2018 CR-V LX FWD. $229/mon for 36/12. $1999 due at signing. Includes down payment and $0 security. Excludes taxes, title and either dealer fees or doc fee. MSRP $25,245. Net capitalized cost $22,172.03 which includes $595 acquisition. Residual is $14,137.20. Is this a good deal? Furthermore, is it possible to wiggle down the payment of this vehicle?
  • This is another offer I came across. $198/mon for 36/12. $2,488 drive off on approved tier one + credit through Honda Financial Services. Plus government fees and taxes, and finance charges. How is this deal compared to the LX one and is it good? Furthermore, is it possible to wiggle down the payment of this vehicle. I am well aware of the turbo engine issues for the CR-V but Southern California doesn't get as cold as other areas.

Those are just ads. No guarantee that the dealer will even meet that price.

yeah, guy quoted the $1999 $199 then showed me the screen printout at $241. Gah.
  • Just had a dealer quote me $2000 due at signing and $219 a month + tax. Was going to go but they called me back and said they "sold the last one". At least the person had the courtesy to let me know right away, had a dealer tell me after I arrived that they just happen to "sell" the vehicle I was looking at and offered me something else. Have another offer at $2388 due at signing with a monthly payment of $229 + tax but that's more than the other one. Another deal I'm looking at is $2488 due at signing for $198 + tax. Waiting to get more information on that one. Is there any legitimate web sites I can look at to compare lease offers to see if the deal is truly good?

Nope - you'll have to evaluate each deal on its own.

Ask all the dealers to quote you with $1000 due at signing - that way, you'll have a more level playing field with which to compare.

  • Thank you for the help. I'm going to go tomorrow to the dealership about the 2018 EX model for the $2488 total drive off for $198 a month. Almost all dealerships I talked to said they don't deviate on lease specials such as the ones that states "only 5 in stock" and such. Is that believable or no?

Dealers make the rules. But, dealers can also break the rules if they are motivated enough.

Look at it from their point of view. Some random person calls or emails them asking for a quote. The dealer is afraid of that quote being shopped (which is true). So, they'll play hard ball until you are standing in front of them. That's when you'll likely get your best deal.

  • That's actually an amazing deal an EX-L for $2200 drive off and $240 a month? Right now the deal I'm looking at is $3000 drive off $213 a month for 36/12. Your vehicle only payments costs 972 more but my drive off is 800 more so for 100 bucks more for the next tier? Sign me up for that as well

Thanks to Michael and others on this forum, drove a new 2018 CRV EX-L last night, so far happy with the deal and the car. $2200 drive off, $240/mo., 36/12 in San Diego County. Cheers, Joel
Congrats! These seem to be the car of choice in my subdivision.

    .00016 MF and 59% residual
    $1200 incentive

    The math is correct.
The discount is about $2800. Given the $1200 incentive to the dealer, that's an effective discount of $1600. Is that good? I don't know. If there is anywhere to bargain, that is the place.

However, the lease program on the CR-V is very good. Overall, it's a good deal.
    I wouldn't put $3000 upfront, though.

The same deal with $1000 upfront would be $274/mo.
That's how I would structure it.

Just wanted to say thank you all for the help. I ended up getting the lease! Girlfriend is pleased to have a brand new car to drive while I'm stuck with the same car going 4 years strong. Lucky her >.> Definitely next time I will focus on having $1000 or less due at signing to minimize my risk. The prior lease for the Ford Fusion SE was $0 due at signing and $199 + tax.
