Just bought a Liquid Platinum GT/AWD. MSRP was $30,890 and the dealer said he had already sold two CX-7's at invoice. When I told him I had received a quote of $1500 below MSRP from another dealer (true), he took $1550 off my beautiful new car. BTW, got 18.2 MPG on first tank (driving gently until break-in is over, then we'll see) http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/12h/www.edmunds.com/media/townhall/webxicons/- emotorcons/emo_wink.gif wink
I recently purchased my CX-7 sport from People's Mazda in Las Vegas. They stated that they weren't going to charge me a "fair market value" mark-up that many other dealers were charging. They did however add a $1,995 upcharge for a paint and dash protectant. They said they could negotiate it down a little , but this had already been added to the vehicle. How many of you have heard of this desert protection package? I think it's bs myself. I just really wanted the vehicle and they were hard to find in early June when I purchased. It's too bad that the dealers play such games! Out the door my base model (Total MSRP was 24,955)cost me 29,403.83! Taxable seling price was 27288.94 plus sales tax of 2114.89.
My best advice to you would be to contact the Attorney General for your state!
What you have was outlawed a few years ago, and I'm guessing you might be able to get your money back on this! Someone else on this board called it "Mop n' Glo".
I seem to remember one of the news magazines doing an expose' on this subject back in the 80's early 90's.
Absolutboy20, which dealership in bay area give you the 800 over invoice. I will be taking a test drive this weekend. And hope to start the shopping soon. What is your experience with other Mazdo dealership in bay area (My last Mazda is a 323 which we bought used may be 10 years ago. So need to catch up with the dealship around the bay area).
Suggestion: instead of fishing piece meal for pricing and availability, why not click on the Edmund's link at the top of these pages for price quotes? Simply fill in the info, i.e. your zip code. The web page will provide all of the Mazda dealers in your area. Check the dealers you want to query and see what happens?
That's exactly what we did when we were looking into the CX-7. Using all the data he gathered from Edmunds, my husband actually made a spread sheet and emailed it to the dealer we were working with. It worked out very well - once the salesguy saw all the data right in front of him, he couldn't do much but better those numbers. The numbers spoke for themselves (to our advantage!)
I started my search with Al Sanchez Mazda in Gilroy, which is where I got the $800 over invoice. Yesterday, I went to Seaside's Cypress Coast which is also a Subaru dealer. Fortunately/unfortunately all of the salesmen were busy with other customers so I was able to sit in some and get a better feel for the vehicle without a salesman breathing down my neck. They had about nine in stock, most were GT models and all without the tech package. At the end, I wanted to talk to the salesman to see what he would be willing to go for.
Since I'm pretty sure that I want to go with the Mazda, I have been avoiding going to the dealership at all cost and have been using the internet sales departments to the full extent. I just sent out several more bids to other dealerships, I'll keep you posted.
It was interesting to be at a Subaru/Mazda dealership since they have the B9 Tribeca there as well. From the side profile, the cars do have a similar look, but there is a significant height/size difference between the two vehicles. I've been going back and forth between vehicles, Rav4, CX-7, and the Pilot. Just yesterday I was reading that Pilot's are going for $6,000-$7,000 under invoice. That puts a Pilot with navi under $30k.. I LOVE the technology on the CX-7 and it's looks, but I wish it were a tad larger. The Pilot on the other hand has the space but not the look. I wish BOTH offered IPOD connections. The Pilot does but you can't get it with models that come with leather..
I'll keep you posted on my efforts, would be great to bounce off dealership numbers with you TopGun.
I agree AC seems underpowered. Test drove Outback and CX-7 back-to-back and Outback AC was much better. Too bad CX-7 is slicker looking. Decisions decisions.
I just came in for a test drive this morning. There were more than 20 CX-7 on the lot at El Cajon Mazda( I saw another ad with more than 30 CX-7 available from Mazda of Escondido). There is no shortage of supply here in San Diego, CA. Wonders if paying several hundred dollars over invoice will be the thing of the past soon since the internet pricing has allowed customers in So Cal to look for the best price from LA, Orange County, Riverside and San Diego. My overall test drive experience was positive, Pros: Look.....wow Acceleration Interior
Cons: Air condition, weak, no vent for back seat. No illuminated Vanity Mirrors ( my lady's complaint)
We got one on the first CX-7's sold in So Cal on 5/28. It has been trouble free with a current 3,000 on the odo. The only issues I have heard about are a sensitive CEL (Many post 2004 cars have this). As well as a shudder in the transmission on a few cars in 5th and 6th gear. There was talk about an updated software program to fix this issue (Ours does not have it). We wife(her CX-7) also complained about the lack of lighted Vanity Mirrors. Our A/C seems to cool fine here in hot So Cal. When we have passengers in the rear we shoot the center vent up and back to provide passengers with cool air. There is no shortage on CX-7's here in So Cal, should have no trouble getting close to invoice.
Hi all, I just contacted an internet sales representitive for his best price on their copper red awd gt with tech. Can I negotitate downwards from his price? What is the best way to do this? I'm really new at this. Thanks!!!
I am not sure if you have more than one Mazda dealers in your area, I would contact as many dealers as possible for price match and comparing purposes. You then can have them beat each other's price or throw in extras (free oil change, side step)to sweeten the deal. Last year, I contacted more than 15 Honda dealers in So. Cal for my Pilot EX-L, I stopped contacting other internet sale managers when the lowest price dealer agreed to throw in mud guard and running board. Good luck........by the way I called him back to negotiate after he emailed me the price. It's a good idea to have him email you OTD price after you have agreed on the sale price.
Picked up my AWD GT with Bose/moonroof, Homelink, and trailer hitch last week. I live in Dallas area and paid about $1200 off MSRP and got 6.25% dealer financing for 60 months. (ELoan also came in about 6.35%)
Can't speak to the MPG just yet, but it is 100 degrees F here, and I have had no complaints about the A/C at all. Although... I wish the black leather interior didn't get so hot while parked in the sun. Will definitely be looking into a sunshade for the huge windshield. Stereo is great for a OEM unit. Looking forward to finding a confirmed iPod integration kit - hopefully in time for xmas!
All in all, there are several things that are done "cheaper" than I thought they would be on the car, but there are also many things that are done so well, I wonder "why don't ALL manufacturers do this?" I was cross-shopping the RAV-4 (faster) and the RDX (more luxurious), but this is definitely the looker and the value of the bunch.
Talked to a Boston, MA area dealers and they are giving $2200 under msrp for any GT package. That was without negotiating. I have been monitoring two dealership inventories and it just keeps going up. Talked to two salesman and they said everyone is concerned about the premium gas and weak engine. One salesman said if the engine was as good as the body we would be getting 2200 over msrp". Looks like I will be buying a minivan.
That's amazing - and a little hard to believe, since there is barely $2200 difference between invoice and MSRP on a GT with the Tech Package. Maybe Boston is the place to shop for a CX-7!
As far as the premium gas, I personally don't sweat it too much. I'll be at the pump right there with the guy in his $37,000 RDX...
Forget MSRP because nobody pays it, I hope. Invoice is only what the dealer supposedly pays for the vehicle. This does not include holdback, usually equal to the delivery charge, for the incedentals like vehicle set up and polishing. this is released to the dealer when the vehicle is sold. Then you have cash incentives which american companies give to the buyer, japanese to the seller. Since this is a new vehicles there are no incentives except for the dealer to clear lot space and create volume.
From the Boston Globe on sunday August 13,2006 Ira mazda 2900 off msrp, Quirk mazda 2400 of msrp. During the week 128 Mazda advertised 2690 off msrp. I know that these are just to get you in the door, but the biggest factor is that the seven dealers near me have over 250 vehicle in stock up from last week of 230.
I have an email from a sales manager that he would do $250 below invoice for me to earn my business. Told him they were up against another dealer. He was seeking me out after he saw my for sale sign while my RX 8 was in getting serviced so I began to chat with him through email. I am just waiting for my investment property to sell before I buy the CX 7. Now I can go back to the other dealer and see if they can top that or get me more for my trade....it's still a buyer's market gang. Go for invoice pricing right off the bat! This dealer has about 4 CX 7's the other about 9 CX 7's. Hold out for your deal!!!!
How about $1500-$2000 below invoice 3 months from now when you run out of room to park all of your CX-7's that you can't move at the current invoice....just kidding.....On a serious note, I was impressed with CX-7 but it seems that Mazda is not selling them as fast for a brand new model, even in the first few months of its release. If the trend continues, you will see big time discount toward the end of the year.
I understand you salesman don't want to sell all of the cars at invoice but people who do their research and know all about the vehicle etc., are the ones you may have to sell them for less or close to invoice, Unfortunately, the car biz is not exactly booming. My uncle owns a Ford dealer, my sister in law manages an office at a Lincoln Mercury dealer and my brother has been a salesman since 1985. I feel bad but finally I can get a decent price on a car instead of feeling taken. I would buy through my family members and I have in the past but since I have been buying brand new Mazda's I am on my own. Hope you have a good year anyway!!! Good luck!
Just wanted to let everyone know that I used Edmunds to send quote requests to some Chicago area dealers, and just signed for a Copper Sport AWD w/ Sunroof/Bose/Power Seat and mirror w/ compass for $26,531.
Didn't even haggle - they offered invoice, and I took it.
Very nice car buying experience. Pretty soon the CX-7 will take up a place in the garage next to my '93 Miata.
The fiance fell in love w/ the CX-7, and I wasn't going to argue!
Mazda's historically don't fly off the shelves initially...the 3 actually took 4-6 months before it started to take off. The 6 was the same way. When the Tribute was launched it sat for a few months and then had 6-8 month waiting list after that. Mazda doesn't have the marketing might of Toyota or Honda so word of mouth and other forms of creative marketing often take a while to catch on......Also there is another angle that folks may not be aware, this past week there was an article in Automotive news stating that mazda was essentially getting out of the rebate game and the CX7 was not going to be rebated like some domestic built mazda's have been...a price comparison vs. the cx competition shows the price to be right on target. Mazda also made the dealer margins very tight to keep wheeling and dealing to a minimum.
The CX-7 is a very good vehicle that brings alot to the table for a very fair price....the word will get out and if gas prices level off a bit the CX will sell fine. Build a great vehicle and people will come.
I agree it will take time like the other Mazda's to catch on and sell briskly. The Mazda 5 has been out a year and I never once saw a commercial for it and it's a great vehicle for the money! The 3's sell really well and the 6 that is a great looking sedan and seems to sell well also. The only other issue right now for the CX7 is gas mileage....many are buying cars that get 20 mpg or better so sales may be slower. If you test drive one you may forget or even not care about the gas issue. It's that good! We bought a new Mariner....a step down from the Mountaineer we had only because we wanted something more fuel efficient...we miss the space it had though. CX 7 rocks for the money!
Here is all the information about my recent lease deal for my new CX-7 here in Clearwater, FL. Hopes this helps people!
Vehicle Information: Mazda CX-7 GT FWD with the Tech Package and Preferred Product package. Galaxy Gray with Black leather interior.
Gross Cap Cost: 30732.50 Capitalized Cost Reduction(ie down payment/trade in): 0 Residual Value: 17689.95 (57%) Depreciation: 13042.55 Rent Charge: 4671.61 Total of base monthly payments: 17714.16 36 month lease 15k miles per year Lease payments 492.06 plus 34.44 taxes Base monthly payment 526.50
Due at signing 1247.66
I only paid 650 which included first months payment and "app fees". The dealer "absorbed" the rest of the cost of the amount due at signing. Thus bring the actual price of the vehicle to 29688.
Hope this helps everyone in negotiating their leases! I love the car so far. Zoom Zoom!
k, this is just my comparo, so nobody get their panties all tied up in a knot, take it or leave it ..it's just my .02
Forestor XT - the BOMB at ~27k, great view from inside the car, you feel like you r sitting in a art gallery. Great power plus the car like feel - you don't feel like you might topple over when pushed hard. great AWD system. I purposely parked the car with 2 wheels on the road and 2 off and floored the gas - no sign of wheel spin -
CX-7 obviously much better lookin - wifey digs - personally not a big fan of the high azz lines;
PROS- looks
CONS - high center of gravity, I can't handle that feeling of the car lungin when you want to dig into a turn
power - k compared to the forestor
Matrix - totally diffrent league but we want somethin with room inthe back so we can atleast fit 4 or 5 large size suitcases. It would do the trick obviously very very poor in power but great gas upto 35mpg highway.
I am going to look into this Honda pilot thing I heard 5 - 6 k off MSRP..sounds attractive, a bit larger SYV though but if the CX-7 is only going to give 15-16mpg it might not be such a bad option plus you get the open view form the inside as well.
Picked up my CX-7 yesterday. Very happy. Had a wonderful buying experience with Wayne Mazda. Got GT with everything except nav. system. Paid below invoice. :P
I've had my CX now for approx. 3 months, 3800 miles, and yes the first tank I got about 16 MPG, broken in now, and I average approx. 21 MPG...I would rethink your process, if you see this car as only a gas hog....
I purchased a new '06 Outback about 7 months ago. I did to a lot of research but now I am finding that I have a lot of trouble getting comfortable. Specifically no place to comfortably rest my left foot. It's really gotten to be such an annoyance that I am now looking to trade it in for something more comfortable. I sat in a CX-7 the other day and found ample room for me - and my feet. One thing I did notice was a lack of other amenities - such as the ever popular cup holders and other storage spaces, ie coin holder. I was in the base model though so can anyone tell me if the upper-scale models do better in this area. tx Jeffer3
There are bottle holders in each front door pocket. Two cup holders in center console behind shifter, as well as two rear cup holders in rear center fold down armrest. Coin holder is inside cemter armrest console and is lockable.
thanks for the info zoom49. i stopped at the dealers this afternoon and was going to go for a test drive but it was a little too late so I just browsed around the parking lot looking at the different vehicles and their stickers.. one thing I noticed there was not one with roof rails. i got the impression they don't make 'em. that's too bad because I kayak and bike and a good roof system is essential. those crossbar only systems like the toe-rag has are not as desirable as a full rail and crossbar system. In the cx-7 any roof system seems like a complete add-on which I'm trying to avoid.
They offer several add on factory roof systems, but I believe they are only cross bar type. There are sockets in the rails for attaching a rack. Maybe the aftermarket will step up to the plate.
Mazda has been having great sales since 2002, very few that are profitable Mazda is one of them, and MOA stated they exceeded their goal for CX-7 sales for August! Wait a few weeks and you won't find this car on the ground..just wait and see..it will be like the 3.
SWEET!... and congrats. I find myself wanting to drive my CX-7 at night just because of those HIDs and the dash lighting. Good luck with your new baby, and let us all know how things go for you.
GREAT CAR BUT IT SHOULD BE FOR THE EXTRA $300/MO I'M NOW PAYING. HAD THE CX FOR 2 WEEKS. I FOUND THIS BLOG LAST NIGHT AND READ ABOUT THE A/C PROBLEMS. SO WHAT HAPPENS TODAY? MY A/C WENT KAPUT. AND THERES EVEN SOME HOT AIR COMING OUT OF THE VENT WITH FAN OFF. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE HAD A PROBLEM WITH A NEW CAR. OVERALL IMPRESSIONS SO FAR IS I DON'T HAVE THE CONFIDENCE RIGHT NOW ON RELIABILITY. THE CAR SEEMS A LITTLE DAINTY. THE MAZDA 6 WAS A WAR HORSE FOR 3.5 YRS AND 100K MILES. THE CX IS ONE HECK OF A RIDE AND HAS A GREAT SOUND SYSTEM. I HOPE IT HOLDS UP. A RADIOTOR PIPE DID SPRING A LEEK ON THE 6 AND THAT WAS THE ONLY PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS OK TO USE LESS THAN PREMIUM GAS ON THE CX. I ALSO LIKE THE LITTLE PORT WINDOWS. THE LEXUS SUV DOESN'T HAVE THEM.
Wow, your A/C problems are nothing compared to the trouble you're having with your Caps Lock key... :P
About the regular gas, you need to show the dealer mechanic your owner's manual: He's wrong. Regular gas will kill your mileage, sap your power, and it ain't good for your engine over the long haul. Good luck with your A/C; hope it gets fixed for good.
PLEASE DISREGARD MY LAST POST ABOUT THE A/C NOT WORKING. I STUPIDLY FORGOT TO TURN THE A/C SWITCH ON. MY BAD. THE A/C IS WORKING FINE. I THOUGHT IF YOU TURN THE THERMOSTAT TO THE BLUE AREA ON THE LEFT SIDE THE A/C WOULD COME ON. THE A/C LIGHT SWITCH HAS TO BE ON. I REALIZED THAT TODAY. THE CAR IS RUNNING GREAT AND HANDLES EVEN BETTER. I PUT PREMIUM IN TODAY. I WAS PLANNING ON DOING IT EVERY 5TH FILL. SINCE PREMIUM IN MASS. IS NOW DOWN TO $2.77 I MIGHT AS WELL USE IT ALL THE TIME. IS 87 OCTANE BAD GAS OR SOMETHING. IT POWERS MOST CARS. WHY IS THE CX-7 DIFFERENT. THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK. WHAT DID YOU MEAN BY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAPS LOCK KEY. NO COMPREMDO. (CARLITOS92)
All caps = SHOUTING on the internet and is generally disrespectful and annoying to read.
Manufacturers can program an engine's computer to get the most out of higher octane gas. With higher octane gas, you can have a higher compression ratio and do things with the spark timing that get more power. When used with lower-octane gas, these compression and timing tweaks can cause detonation (or knock) which is bad for your engine if prolonged. Many (most?) engines have knock sensors these days that can lessen the chance of damage, but the bottom line is Mazda says use premium. I can't remember the exact wording, but again - look at your owner's manual.
"Regular" gas isn't "bad," but your car isn't made for it. That is not uncommon these days.
In Oregon, I just purchased Electric Blue Grand Touring, towing, satelite, moon roof package, didn't need technology package MSRP was $31,600+ I paid $300 over dealer invoice, putting it at $29,600. I probably could have gotten better but that quote was the first price they gave me and it was lower than the other dealers I was dealing with. This was an internet transaction, never talked to them till the day I picked it up. Great transaction they even gave me exactly what I was expecting on my trade in (after the price was worked out) Also, thanks to edmunds for the process, I still came in a lot cheaper than TMV.
I got the Mica Red Touring with the electronic package for $29,xxx. The dealership took $1,000 off the stciker price. It also had the sunroof and just FWD. I added back a 6 year, 100,000 mile warranty and gap insuarnce. I ended up paying around $31,500. I had never heard about the CX-7 till the day I bought it and did no shopping around. I drove home with it the same day. They gave me $6,100 for my "03" Mazda 6 which had $100,000 miles on it. It is a small Mazda/Suburu dealership in the middle of no where in central Mass. I think one might do better at dealerships in small market areas. The salesman are not as slick. There is a real huge dealership north of Boston. A week later I wanted to compare and see if I got screwed. they didn't have one CX-7 with Nav and rear camera. They all had AWD. Even with there discounts of around $1,100 on each one, I paid about the same, everything else being equal. So, I think I did OK.
Bought ours at Cooley Mazda and Volkswagen in Rensselaer, NY. Treated very fairly. Salesman was ill with strep throat but really kept at it. Walked in pretty much knowing what we wanted. Car has AWD, Tech Pack. no remote start or garage signal, no Sirus radio, but nearly all other options. Very pleased so far, paid an even $31K plus tax.
Salesman keeps checking back every few days to see if all is ok. BTW, to our surprise, when we picked up the car, it had a full tank of gas!!!
Actually, NOT getting a full tank of gas from a dealer would be strange... Have never bought a car that hadn't just been freshly filled up. Guess I thought that was an industry standard.
I'm assuming "Darth Vader Grey" means "Galaxy Gray?" That's what mine is... I got a real kick the first time I pulled up next to an RX-8 that was the exact same color. Sweet! :shades:
Have never bought a car that hadn't just been freshly filled up. Guess I thought that was an industry standard.
when I first got in the biz you got enouogh gas to make it to the nearest gas stations...assuming you didn't turn on the A/C and the gas station was down hill..

Even with there discounts of around $1,100 on each one, I paid about the same, everything else being equal. So, I think I did OK.
BTW, to our surprise, when we picked up the car, it had a full tank of gas!!!
when I first got in the biz you got enouogh gas to make it to the nearest gas stations...assuming you didn't turn on the A/C and the gas station was down hill..
4 gallons fuel.... ... $4.00
