If they give you a hard time, then go to the parts department, and tell them you just bought a brand new Element, and you need a locking gas cap for it. It's the same part number as the Fit's (17680-SAA-G00).

Anyone know what the drain plug diameter & pitch are? I'd like to lay one back for the next oil change
    Thanks,
    Ken

Spoke to the service manager at my local dealership. I told him that a locking gas cap is available for the Fit, even though the parts dept didn't believe this to be the case. I told him I orderded the part on line along with other accessories. He graciously offered to install the accessories I purchased when they arrive. A decent :) thing to do.

Got the armrest and assembled it. The bottom is plastic, looks to be pretty sturdy, and has lots of room inside. It's not adjustable (unless you take it apart first). But one big problem: it installs using double-sided adhesive tape, which was NOT included in the package. I wrote them of ocurse, but have not yet had an answer. Otherwise, I like it even though it won't flip up. It does have a built-in plastic cupholder that pulls out in the back, and it will hold CD jewel cases (probably around 6). There's also a front compartment inside, which looks good for small change, matches, small pocketknife, pack of gum, etc. etc. Now to see if they send me the tape so I can actually use it...
  • shneorshneor Member Posts: 66
So the vendor said that they would not send tape, and screw the armrest in. But no screws are supplied, and you can't screw it in without remoovint the front seats. I bought some double-sided foam tape and installed the 2mrest. So far, so good. Still easy to snap the seat belts in, and use the handbrake and shift.

I know that this has been discussed (sort of) already, but I thought I'd bring it back up. In most of the preview for the Fit they mentioned a footwell lighting kit. However post release, all mention has disappeared and the kit doesn't seem to be available.

Now when I was initially looking at Civics a little while back I DID see the footwell lighting kit as an available accessory, so I did some digging.

At College Hills Honda, they list a "Courtesy Light" for the 2006 Civic Sedan/Coupe/Hybrid. (Part #08E10-SNA-110) Its pretty much what I imagined when I thought of the footwell lighting kit and I think the blue color would match the other light scheme well.

Does anyone have any guesses as to whether or not it might fit into the Fit? (Really, no pun... its just so tough!) Has anyone seen the footwell kit in a Jazz accessory list?

I got an alarm installed on my Base model Fit last Saturday for $200. I got it mainly for the keyless entry because it bugged me to no end to lock the doors when exiting my vehicle and then having to unlock the hatch, get what I needed out, shut the hatch, and relock the hatch. Who has that kind of time? ;)

I didn't want to spend an extra $3K to get the Sport model with the alarm when I could spend $200 to get an alarm installed elsewhere.

Best move I've made, I'd have to say.

what's the deal with the flapping back license plate thingy? How do you secure the bottom two screw holes of the back license plate so it doesn't clammer every time you close the hatchback? I thought those two black stoppers were magnets, but don't seem to hold the dang thing.

This was a problem on my Accord Wagon too...but wasn't nearly as obnoxious. There was a plastic frame which notches that I could tuck the bottom of the plate behind to secure it.

NOT on the FIT. Now it's just bugging me.
  • hungarian83hungarian83 Member Posts: 678
Have you taken off the back license plate frame? I took the frame off, and the plate no longer makes any noise since it only hits the foam strips.
  • getnfittywiditgetnfittywidit Member Posts: 50
thanks, I'll try that. I do have a frame the dealer put on there. I don't need it or want it, but they were so decent to deal with I thought I'd give them a HOLLA! I guess 4 weeks is enough. :-)

why can't the darn thing be secured like the front one? Even though it won't make noise, it'll still flap.

Which brand of alarm did you get? Was it quite a sophisticated system? Hood/doors/hatch protection, siren, audible locking confirmation, the works?
  • familyofmoonfamilyofmoon Member Posts: 9
    Glad you are honest!
I used to think the problem was with used car dealers but after buying my FIT i realize that is not so. and don't get me talking about trade ins!!!!!!!!!
Perhaps my experience will help you to see why some customers are uncomfortable with car dealers.
I went to a honda dealership who told me the only way i could buy the fit was with a $1400 option package (upholstery package of all things!!!!!) and that all the dealers are doing the same.
went to three dealers in a 50 mile radius of them and NONE of them were forcing the package onto their customers. In fact one of the dealers i went to laughed when i told him, he was an older gentleman and said "all car dealers used to do things like that back in the old days to make a better profit, but nowadays i didn't think anyone did that anymore."

I checked out the Maggie rack but the Melrose is the one for me. Does drilling into the roof and mounting them on the car invalidate the warrantee? The Melrose is a "disappearing roof rack": http://www.toplinemfg.com/html/rck-melroserack.html

For those who bought the locking gas cap, how did you guys remove the old cap?? Did you guys simply cut the wire connecting the cap and the small door or using other method? Since I want to retain the old cap in case I want to put it back later for any reason, but I found it difficult to take that wire out... help please...
  • kagedudekagedude Member Posts: 407
No cutting needed. Just push the pin out using a pen where the tether connects from (the gas lid).
  • fittasticfittastic Member Posts: 18
Hm, not sure. I think it's Alpine or something. I got the very basic they had, but it locks all the doors and beeps once to indicate the alarm is set. If you unlock the door w/out disarming the alarm (or if you kick the tire or whatnot), the alarm will sound -- beeping, lights flashing, etc and will go off for 30 seconds or until it's disarmed. When you disarm the car, it beeps twice and flashes. If it beeps three times, the alarm went off already. It was well worth the $200 in my opinion -- especially since I only need my key to start the car.
  • manlokmanlok Member Posts: 11
I tried yesterday but seems it's not easy to push the pin out.... let me try it today later again :confuse:
  • bodble2bodble2 Member Posts: 4,514
It may be basic by today's high-tech standards, but, to me, it appears to be more than adequate, and very user-friendly. It actually sounds like a Honda dealer-installed system we had years ago on a CR-V, and I believe that system was also made by Alpine, for Honda.

Like you said, it would beep three times if the alarm had gone off due to an intrusion. And I think it would not beep at all, if the doors were not locked in the first place. I always liked that feature because it tells you what has, or has not, happened.

I was wondering if I could trouble you to confirm the exact model number of the system? It should be in the Instruction Manual, or the sales invoice.

    Many thanks! :D
  • fittasticfittastic Member Posts: 18
no trouble at all, but I can't get that to you until tomorrow so... stay tuned. :)
  • dewaltdakotadewaltdakota Member Posts: 364
It was almost tooo easy for me to take mine off. I just took a 10 penny finishing nail, and used the head to push up on the pin from the underside. It popped right out, so be sure to catch yours, or at least note which direction it rolls in, as it hits the ground.

Has anyone ever put in, or even considered installing an aftermarket Ragtop sliding sunroof on thier Fit? Streetbeatcustoms.com has kits for like 400 bucks, They are similar the ones on pre 63 VW beetles. they are around 35" X 40". I like the looks of them and they may even allow me to haul more stuff!! From looking at the Fits metal skeleton photos though, it looks like there are structural brackets going across the top of the car that would have to be removed? Any thoughts?
  • cmkcmk Member Posts: 59
I... don't think you should try and remove those.
  • fittasticfittastic Member Posts: 18
So, I forgot to look who's the maker but the keychain thingamajig says PRESTIGE. I do remember the guy telling me that this PRESTIGE is from the makers of a big name and that I can go anywhere in the country and still get service if I need...
  • bodble2bodble2 Member Posts: 4,514
Yes, I've seen the Prestige name around some. As you said, the manufacturer may be some big name company such as Alpine.

I appreciate your looking into it for me. Thanks!

PS: Is a siren part of the parkage, or does it beep, when arming and disarming, via the horn (which can be quite loud)?
  • thirtmcgirtthirtmcgirt Member Posts: 1
after over 2000 miles and no problems, the locks no longer function properly. when i hit the lock button(on the door or the remote)i hear a double 'locking' sound. unlock just clicks so i know the solonoid works. i manually unlocked all doors and hatch but the problem remains. the manual says to take to dealership for this. has anyone else experienced this?

This URL was posted on another group. Quite a nice looking installation. Be interesting to know what was in there and what was removed:

The beeps come into play when arming/disarming the vehicle. If the alarm sounds it's like your average siren type of alarm -- loud enough to draw attention, but nothing too fancy like one of those talking "Step away from the vehicle" types. ;)

I was very hesitant to go forth and spend the $200 simply because I've never had a vehicle with an alarm and am pretty clueless as to how it all works. But the guys at the place I went to (an independant auto electronics shop) were awesome and really explained everything to me.

If I had to do it all over again, I would. And, for me, it made more sense to spend the $200 than get the Sport version. Good luck!

A quality aftermarket sunroof will cost $700 to $1200 depending on region and type of sunroof.

There has been no listing of sunroof on any of the pre-production equipment lists for the Fit.

I know there's been some discussion re: roof racks for the Fit (thanks drknife, johnnyb11, lynivere)... called a local roof rack company and there is nothing set up yet for the Fit. They quoted that they can do a custom Thule rack and mounts for appro $700 Cdn. Seems expensive to me. I will contact Honda Canada to see if there's anything coming out for the Fit. I've also read in this Forum that the max weight capacity for the Fit roof seems to be about 100 lbs. Is this right? Does anyone have any updated info? Like lynivere, I'm not keen to drill holes into my precious Fit. I'm wanting to install roof rack for kayaking. Appreciate any tips...
  • frogdaddyfrogdaddy Member Posts: 33
Nope. One press of the button and it locks all doors. If I press twice I get the horn. This is up to 1100+ miles so far.

    hi,

I'm located in Kingston, Ontario & just installed a Thule roof rack, specially designed for the Honda Fit. Thule parts needed are:

    Kit 1312
    Footpack 750
& 120 cm load bars (i bought their 761 'square bars' although their 'aero bar' option = Thule 861 bars, will also work)

I was quite frustrated trying to purchase a Thule (or any) roof rack for my Honda fit. Our local Honda dealer was useless in this regard. So I bought the aforementioned parts from a Thule Retailer located in the U.K. The Installation instructions that came with the Kit 1312 (contains the clips) said the parts were specifically designed for either the Honda Jazz (U.K. version of Honda Fit) OR Honda Fit. So its weird that Thule in North America has no idea if & when roof rack for Honda Fit will be available. Anyways the rack was easy to install, looks great and now we can carry our bikes or kayaks with ease.

the shop in the U.K. I dealt with is:

    Roof Rack Shop UK
    9 Brewster Square
    Brucefield Industrial Estate
    Livingston
    West Lothian
    EH54 9BJ
    Tel: 01506 418218
    Fax: 01506 418123
    www.roofrackshop.com

The Roof Rack shop was very helpful processing the order; quickly responded to all my emails etc... total cost for the parts I ordered was about 90 pounds, but then I had to pay about another 90 or so pounds for shipping. whatever... I desperately needed the rack and am quite pleased to finally have one for our honda fit that works with our existing Thule rack attachments (= fork mount bike attachments, kayak ,& skiis).\\hope this helps.

How did you hard wire? It looks nice with wires hidden.
How did you tie into the Aux and DC adapter? I'm thinking about doing the satellite thing but don't want to tie up the connections either.
    Thanks.

I decided to order a non-folding leather topped armrest with cupholder for the Honda Fit we have coming. I found two sources for the same armrest.

The first is maxdax in Singapore. They quoted me a price of US$36 + US$39 shipping.

The second is an eBay store called HK-Plus in Hong Kong. Their current auction lists the armrest for $34 + $35 shipping. Since their price was lower, I decided to give HK-Plus a try. I put in an order earlier today.

Once it arrives and I have installed it, I will provide feedback on the vendor and the armrest.

the Thule roof rack I imported from the U.K. for my Honda Fit is working great. it was easy to install & appears to be quite well engineered for fitting on the roof of my Honda 'Fit'. i gave up waiting for Thule in north america to get their act together and am happy that i was able to get the correct roof rack from the U.K. good luck!

Just want to let you know that I ordered the Curt hitch, have had it installed, and now can finally transport my bike! Thanks for the heads up on this. It works great! Now it's time to hit the trails! (with the bike, not the Fit! )

I have drilled holes in the FIT roof and installed Yakima Landing Pads. The bars have a 48" spread for long kayaks. I will in the future install 24" Yakima Tracks under the rear pads in order to stiffen the roof for additional carrying capacity. For now carrying 60 lbs does not seem like a problem as long as I do not go off road! Below is a link to photos:

RackAttack.com was very helpful with advice and parts.

Does anyone have the dimensions for the Honda organizer? I haven't been able to find the dimensions on the College Hills Honda or H and A web sites.

The organizer on Target's web site is pretty small: 15-1/4" x 22-1/2". The one on display in the local Target stores was even smaller, with an insulated center compartment. Neither have the tie-down straps as on the Honda version to attach to the fittings in the Fit's cargo space.

Shneor -- how is your armrest working out? is it stable with just the tape? worth the cost? photo would be great, if not too much trouble. thanks.

I just got one from HK-Plus through Ebay. Looks nice and fits perfectly. Shipping was quicker than I expected too. :)
  • crimsonacrimsona Member Posts: 153
I actually have one of these on order, currently shipping.

The major question is: can you use it without any screws and how does it affect refresh mode/cargo mode?
  • manlokmanlok Member Posts: 11
I just got one from HK-Plus through Ebay. Looks nice and fits perfectly

I also wanna buy one but I just wonder is the armrest "compatible" to the interior of the Fit? As I see from the photos the exterior of the armrest is made by leather but there's no leather in our Fit... I'm afraid it will look strange to put it in my Fit...

I know what you mean, but it looks pretty good. It seems to blend in OK.

One of the sites I visitd gave the measurements for the Honda cargo organizer as 30" long x 13" wide x 11" tall. At Bernardiparts.com, it says that all the Honda vehicles use the same cargo organizer. I don't know if that's true or not, but the stock pictures on all the car parts sites I've looked at are of the same thing, so I imagine it's true.

Here's the site for Bernardi Parts here. And, here's where it gives the dimensions for the organizer (it's listed under the "Honda Pilot Accessories tab"

I'm trying to buy a cargo organizer, too, and I don't want to spend Honda money, but so far, it looks like the best choice. :( I don't see another organizer of that size or type anywhere.
