rv65, thanks for the reply. Could you provide a link to the pricing for the 08 Veracruz? I cannot find it anywhere, not Hyundai, Hyundai News, Edmunds, etc.
Steve, thanks for the link. Sadly, I need a VIN to register at Hyundai's site. Grr....
I dont think pricing will be pubically revealed until they put it on the website. That probably wont be until after the big duh sales event. You could ask the HMA people but I dont think they want to be bothered with pricing info. I think it's under embargo until the sales event.
Just got my Veracruz Limited - Awesome. We had to drive 100 miles to find the right dealer, but find him we did and are very happy with the dealer and the buying experience (as detailed in my posted in the Prices Paid forum).
But like a dummy I left the owner's manual at my in-laws after showing off our new baby. I have joined the owner link at the Hyundai site, but it says the manual is not available yet as a .pdf. Anyone else have luck with this?
If not, two questions: What is the little button at the bottom on the keyless immobilizer fob for? Also, how do the rain sensing wipers work? Is there a setting, or an adjustment if you don't like the auto start? Does it turn on the headlights as well? (It's illegal here to run your wipers without your lights being on)...
Great, great car. Beautiful, well thought out design, quiet as a library.
I share the "awesome." I just took delivery of VC AWD Limited Ultimate. A very well thought out car with great attention to detail. That six speed transmission makes all others outdated. Very smooth too.
The button on the fob pops out a regular key in case of fob electronic malfunction. You have to pull on the key ring to get the key out at the same time you push the little round button.
If you don't like autostart wiper, then don't have the wiper control arm on the third "auto" position. Place it in the second position from the top. Mine does not turn on lights automatically. Good suggestion, though.
I may have been the person who posted the "bit off" mileage. Turns out that the odometer has several readings, one of which is your average MPH and one of which is your average MPG. So, I think I made a mistake and got all excited about gas mileage when it was miles per hour. Ugh!
At any rate, I've had the vehicle since April, and I am getting 19 miles per gallon with my split between highway driving and city driving being about 35/65. But our city driving here isn't really city - - it's quite a few country roads which you can drive rather like a highway . . .
All dealers should have them in by this weekend. Maybe most dealers. Not many changes. Navi, bluetooth, reorganizing of the trims. Navi can't be ordered with the dvd player. Saddle leather will be on the 08 since there was a larger than expected demand. Navi is coming in Oct/Nov. DVD player can't be ordered with the navi system.
Just picked my 2008 Veracruz Limited in Satin Beige with DVD last night. Spec sheet said it has saddle interior but the interior is black leather not the burgundy/brown leather that the 07 limited has with black carpet. Not sure if 08's made later will have the 07 ultimate package leather or not. I have not checked everything yet, but it does not appear to have bluetooth but heard it can be added on as an accessory.
The only other 08 they had was Khaki w/out DVD. We liked the 07 Titanium Blue SE. An 08 Titanium Blue LTD would be even better! I believe most dealers are trying to clear most of their 07's before they get the 08's.
Saw an '08 VC LTD at the dealer last night. I was told that the FWD version dominated early production and the the AWD will soon follow as we head into the winter months. Also, navi is due out late Oct/early Nov. The LTD I saw had the upgraded sound/DVD option at $1500...dealer said the navi would be in the same range, but is not available w/DVD.
Still don't have my owner's manual, entirely because of my absent-mindedness... I left it at my in-laws. And it's still not available to owners electronically on the Hyundai site either, but supposedly they will be putting up new versions of much of their website Friday, so I have hopes.
In the meantime, can someone answer a question about a function I won't be needing for a few months here, namely where is the switch to control the heated exterior door mirrors? My wife asked me to confirm the Veracruz really has this feature, but I can't prove til I find the switch!
cplyons......I would be screaming at my in-laws. You left the book on the 19th. Where is it?
Anyway, because you have a VC, I will help you.
Yes it will warm the outside mirrors [if so equipped] when you turn on your rear window defroster. Third button down on the left of your AC control.
Now that I have settled the family question - call your in-laws ad get your owner's manual back. There are a zillion things you have to read about so you get max enjoyment and I am going to start charging you if you ask more questions.
We got the roof cross rails on our Veracruz LTD as a gimme, and while the design is slick as he**, I suspect they are adding wind noise and lowering MPG...
Since Hyundai did such a fantastic job lowering the wind resistance of the VC (while keeping it beautiful and contemporary looking), I would like to take the cross rails off until I actually need them... Has anyone tried this? They look like they might be installed at the factory. And I don't want to touch them if it might mess up my new baby!
You answered your own question. Do you really want to be illuminated when you're in the mood? I'd say it sets the mood so that you will eventually work on needing to upsize from the VC to an Entourage someday...marketing ingeneuity at it's finest!
They look very similar to the ones that are on the Santa Fe, so they probably come off the same way. If you have strong hands, you can just squeeze the rear end caps and they will pop off. Be gentle, because there are some retention clips (kind of like mother board standoffs if you know what I mean) that can get deformed if you are too rough. You could also use nylon bicycle tire levels to pry them off. Once the end caps are off, slide the cross rails to the end and depress the tabs that are on each side. The cross rails come right off. Snap the end caps back into place, making sure the fit is tight or they will fly off at highway speeds (listen to the voice of experience).
But I don't think that the cross rails lower mpg appreciably, and if you slide them all the way back you would never hear them.
Roof cross rails. We have two VC LTD's: one with cross rails, one without. Really no difference.
These are GREAT cars for the money. I only have 2 complaints: a little wind noise at highway speeds which may be in all SUV's due to height of vehicle, and the suspension.... a little bumpy.
In the market for a replacement for our '03 T&C. Came down to the Mazda CX-9 and the Veracruz. Both were great driving cars, but the seats in the CX-9 were too hard. So my wife decide on an '07 Khaki LTD with the Ultimate Package. Should be at the dealer in a few days.
I keep seeing that is available on all trim levels for 2008, but there are 2008's out of lots that don't appear to have it and nobody seems to know what the deal is.
This is a must have feature for me--its an important safety feature, and its illegal to drive and talk on a cell phone in many places, including in Washington DC.
I believe it will be available later in the model year, just like the navigation system. Preliminary availability date on the navi has been stated as Oct/Nov. Maybe bluetooth then, too?
I have what may be a silly question. If it is illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving, how does Bluetooth make it legal? Or does it just make it less likley to be caught since one is not holding up a phone to one's ear?
I shouldn't have worded it that way but I knew what i meant (ha!)
Its illegal to use a HANDHELD device (cellphone), not to actually talk. Using Bluetooth like I have in my 07 Camry Hybrid is no different that chatting to the person next to you in the car. Its one of those features that I had given no thought to, but it came with my car and no I simply will never buy a car that doesn't have it, its awesome.
I couldn't agree more. Considering all the time and money that is spent on R and D in order to meet consumer needs and demands, it really blows me away that something that today is as basic as Bluetooth has been missed on a vehicle that is competing in this class. Bizarre. I want to buy the Veracruz but if Bluetooth doesn't show up real soon, I will spend my money on something else.
Are there any bluetooth devices that can be integrated into the stereo? I have seen some aftermarket navigation units that have this capability but have seen some mixed reviews on it.
I found this retailer with some nice looking aftermarket Bluetooth kits. They also have Hyundai Veracruz specific "plug and play" adaptor harnesses for their installation: Parrot Kits
Well that is interesting news. But I would be very surprised (although pleasantly surprised) if it was as fully integrated as a true factory solution. For example, in my Acura, when the phone rings, the radio volume automatically decreases and the calling number is displayed in the instrument panel. Also the buttons to make and receive calls are integrated right into the steering wheel, just like the audio system controls are.
I want to be able to hear my ipod's music from the car's speaker system. Currently that's not possible b/c the veracruz stereo system does not have an input jack.
I searched but didn't see anyone else ask this so...
On the right side next to the climate controls, opposite the Emergency Flasher Switch there is a round grill like object. It is the same size as the Emergency Flasher Switch so maybe it is just a filler but if so why have the hole there? Is this some sort of intake for the automatic cabin filter?"
A dealer installed aux jack for the Santa Fe and Veracruz will be available soon. For the Veracruz, it is installed in the storage cubby hole located below the air conditioner controls.
08 veracruz site now on hyundaiusa.com. Still not complete. They need to finish it. Some models are listed as 07. No mentions of the nav and bluetooth. Should get it finished up by next week. I hope hyundai reveals the lg navigation system.
My understanding is that Hyundai made 1000 Limited models with blabk interior but that this is not a standard option. Too bad because the black interior is stunning! I bought a 2008 two weeks ago. I initially wanted the black/saddle interior because I don't like the standard biege interior. When I saw the black interior, I immediately put down a deposit. Five minutes later, another customer tried to put down a deposit on the same car not knowing it was just sold.
If you can find a limited with black interior, check it out - it is beautiful.
I read about your inventories going up. You've have to lower your sales expectations worldwide.
I want to help you guys out. I'm looking for some specifics: tow package, auxiliary audio jack, and bluetooth. Get those on the lot, and I promise to lower your inventory by one by purchasing one.
Make that two, that's what I am waiting for as well. I want the Veracruz, but if I don't hear something within the month, I'm will purchase the CX9 (wife's vehicle falling apart, can't wait much longer)
I have had a history of Ford vehicles, but my '02 Explorer has been such a money pit. No more. I'm ready to move on, but I can't move onto what doesn't exist on the lot. I don't need the GPS, but please provide bluetooth.
When I traded my Acura for the Veracruz limted I was certain I couldn't do without navi and bluetooth phone.
So I did what Hyundai thinks all of us should do: I bought a high end portable with the same features. I got the Garmin Nuvi 660 ($549 from BuyDig). It is portable, light as a feather with a big screen, does handsfree phone at least as well as any in dash I've used, is easily updated via usb, displays pictures of my kid, plays MP3s through the stereo etc etc. It's just a better solution for me. Your mileage may vary of course, but I would hate to see a bunch of folks pass up this great vehicle for lack of something available both better and cheaper elsewhere...

Congrats on being one of if not the first to get an '08 Veracruz!
I saw on Cars.com that they added a Titanium Blue for '08. Did you happen to see this new dark blue when at the dealer?
How many '08s did they have in stock?
