    VERACRUZ 1,549
This is the number sold in June. It's good!

I don't know. 10,519 Pilots, 11,253 Highlanders, 14,204 Explorers, 4,639 MDXs, 1,955 CX-9s. Compared to these, 1,549 Veracruz doesn't seem like very many. For comparison 8,460 Santa Fes sold and BMW and Volvo sold way more X5s and XC-90s.

I think it has 3 things going against it:
    1. It's the smallest of the bunch,
    2. Dealers don't seem to have much of them, especially the Limited model, and
    3. Have you seen this thing advertised much on TV?

So the combination of all 3 means there's not much excitement and word of mouth. I wouldn't go as far to say that Hyundai botched the launch, but let's just say I'd love to see a Limited model and I can't find one...

Along with what nxs has pointed out, few additional item to note:

This is an unknown model, I'd bet you ask anyone on the street, few would know the existence of the Veracruz. Let alone the Hyundai brand. Even then, how many would give a try b/c of the badge on it. A good amount of posters here would but we know it's a good product, as opposed to many others which still percept the past history.

FWIW, the Veracruz has had increases every single month, without any heavily campaign, which should begin shortly, IIRC - this is a good sign.

I don't think it will sell 10K/month anytime in the near future, but anywhere between 2-3K/month is very respectable for a car that go as high as 38K loaded.

Also, the Veracruz is high in demand so that's another good sign, the available units are sitting on most dealers' lots in single-digit days.

I agree with the limited availability of the SE and Limited models. In Western PA, there are plenty GLS, but few loaded SE or Limited' s.
  • carbuyer11carbuyer11 Member Posts: 114
My local dealer has 4 GLS's priced in the upper 20's that are gathering dust on his lot. A loaded Santa Fe is only slightly more expensive due to discounting and rebates. I agree finding an AWD Limited is not easy. I found one but didn't get my first color choice. 500 miles into ownership and I have no complaints. I love all of the toys available that the current Pilot can only dream about. It rides great, is quiet and appears to be solidly built.

I'm not so sure it's that positive. I'd like to see higher sales and more competition. Consider this. Buick sold 3,659 Enclaves, over 7000 Acadias and almost 4000 Saturn Outlooks. Even Cadillac sold more SRXs.

Too bad, either they didn't have enough Limited's or the Hyundai brand is hurting sales. I would have thought 4000 a month was a good goal to shoot for, especially since they got the good review from Motortrend and used in ads. It was on the Yahoo home page.

Currently an owner of a '07 Santa Fe and Hyundai will be replacing following an arbitration ruling. Hyundai will permit me to upgrade to a Veracruz(of course I pay the difference in MSRPs) which we intend to do.

I am considering waiting for the '08 Veracruz because there is rumor that it will be offered with Navi. Can anyone confirm or deny this rumor and can I expect the '08's to start showing in Aug or Sept?

I looked at a Limited with Ultimate package yesterday. The salesman said they are throwing in the Garmin NUVI with every limited.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
Well they are testing navi models so it's likely that it will come. The problem is that there are 2 companies that are trying to provide navi systems for hyundai. Although one person who works as a rep has confirmed alpine but they are looking at LG. Hyundai has said the 08 model will come with navi. Some publications have confirmed it. It may not be available. Most likely the limited will get it. Santa Fe might get it too. As a bonus hyundai will provide bluetooth with the navi as well. Then again you can always get a nuvi system which is a nice navi system. I think they may offer it with a delayed launch.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
navi could be made by alpine or LG. It's hard to tell but LG is not an XM partner. Alpine is an XM partner. XM has its perks which can be great with GPS systems.

I got confirmation this past week from a Hyundai Motor America Consumer Affairs Manager that the 2008 will in fact offer Navi as everyone here suggested. He checked with his people and claims the Navi-equipped '08s will show in Oct/Nov area.

Here's my dilemma. Should I wait the 4 months(if the BBB and Hyundai will agree) and hold out for the Navi '08 or should I not risk putting miles on my Santa Fe that Hyundai is buying back(more miles the more I pay in usage fee). The wife is also concerned that if something happened to the Santa Fe in these four months that it would complicate the Non-Lemon law replacement the BBB ruled.

I just returned from my first road trip with my Veracruz. We escaped the heat of Central VA for the Blue Ridge Mountains and Luray Caverns. We used our Garmin 660 4.3" inch portable GPS which took us everywhere we wanted to go. There are 3 power sources on the Veracruz within reach of the power cord. I used to be a fan of factory GPS (the cool factor...) but the functionality, portabaility and affordability all convinced me the NUVI660 was a smarter purchase than a factory unit. I was able to sit in my family room Friday evening while programming my portable unit for the addresses I wanted to visit. Try doing that with a factory unit.

Another plus: through the internet, it's a snap to get updates, certainly easier than going through the hassles of a DVD based factory unit. Just my 2 cents worth- I wouldn't wait for the '08's if you're in a unique situation with your Santa Fe.

    Carbuyer,

Thanks for your insight. We also have a portable Garmin(C320) that I enjoy and understand each and every point you make. They are all solid. Some other considerations would be a Back-up camera(most SUVs come with 'em) and all the great radio interface touch screen buttons. Aside from that I'm thinking if we got an '08 we'd save a year depreciation.

I'm sorry, but I'm anxious about purchasing this vehicle but I have a few questions. Aside from the navi and bluetooth changes in the 08 model, does anyone think or know if the veracruz is going to receive any appearance changes that will match it more to the Korean version of the veracruz, such as the solid red LED tail lights, the electroluminescent display, and ipod input? I'm ready to buy the Veracruz tomorrow if not, but if so, I'll wait a few months so as to receive these features, at least the electroluminescent display and external input. And finally, if I purchased one soon, do you think the dealer could retrofit these features? Thanks.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
Well I dont know if that will happen. Usually 2nd year cars dont get many changes if that. Canada gets LED's so you could get the canadian LED's and retrofit them.

I've tried to play an MP3 compilation disc on my GLS Veracruz and it only comes up with an error message "Error 22". Anybody know what that means?
  • goochgooch Member Posts: 13
The first time I tried to play an MP3 CD in my Veracruz, I also got an error (I can't remember if it was '22' or '42') so I thought there was something wrong with the way I burned the disc. I decided to give it another try and the disc read successfully the second time.

I used WMP11 to create my compilation.
  • mjb56mjb56 Member Posts: 170
Thanks. I believe mine was created on WMP9. I'll try again.

I saw towing option listed in the Veracruz sales brochure. I was told by my dealership that the option is not available at this time. They seemed a bit vague as to when it may be available. I got the impression that it is not not going to be available on the 2007 models. I contacting Hyundai Consumer affairs for their response.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
It could come for the 08 model. If it's an accessory it should fit on an 07.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
Well some changes are in store. Some limited features are now standard or optional on non Limited trims. LG navigation system is available on Limited Models. No Alpine system. No bluetooth either but I think it's a dealer installed device. No LED's or HID's.

I wonder if you'll be able to retrofit the Bluetooth into the 07' model.
  • carbuyer11carbuyer11 Member Posts: 114
It's more than a little disappointing that most of the "options" that cost me an extra $3200 on my Limited will now be standard. I'll be very interested to see what happens to the sticker price. This may help Hyundai sell a few more vehicles but it puts a sour taste in the mouth of a guy that crossed the Japanese/Korean border to pay nearly $36000 for a Veracruz one short month ago. This has been anything but a world-class rollout of this vehicle. Hyundai should have introduced this car as an early '08 like many of the other competing manufacturers.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
I agree too. This thing was debuted in Korea in the fall of last year so thats why it's an 07. It could have waited though. The 08 Limited will be repackaged in options.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
Apparently bluetooth will be a factory installed option on all trims. Thats a nice touch. Makes a great safety feature for states that require hands free.
  • winedogswinedogs Member Posts: 102
    Carbuyer11,

I was thinking the same thing. The is a big negative for those that purchased a 07 loaded, but is an incentive for us that are waiting for the 08's. The Veracruz was not on the top of my list, but with the new standard features, it is moving up fast.

    hi,
i looked over that news release for the veracruz 08 and it looks very appealing that the limited will have some of the extras as standard but my question is whether the saddle/black leather option will be available w/out having to get the ultimate package? is the ultimate package even going to be an option? i didn't see it in the bulletin. if anyone's heard anything, please let me know , thanks :confuse:
  • johntowjohntow Member Posts: 2
Good question. I don't know what would be included in the ultimate package.

The main reason that has kept us from buying a Vera Cruz was the double talk on its towing capacity. Will Hyundai sell the '08 with a towing package (hitch, larger s/view mirrors, oil pan, transmission mods)? For 3500lbs?

The dealer I spoke with said he wouldn't answer any questions about trailering (he wouldn't even let me see the owner's manual)until we bought the vehicle. And said Hyundai never adds tow hitches--that is after market. But doesn't Hyundai offer Santa Fe or Tucson with towing?

Is the aux jack a dealer installed option? I saw this picture of it installed, but I can't seem to find anymore info on it.

In Canada, the new standard features on the Limited are already standard on the Limited in 07. There is no navi available at this time.

I am getting my 07 VC at the end of this month. It is a GLS model, but different than the US model. There are no options available. Only 2 models, the GLS and the Limited. All our VCs are AWD.

The GLS has black leather, sunroof, power drivers seat, conversation mirror, 18" wheels, auto temp driver/pass. Sort of like your premium, with a package.

The Cdn Limited adds the proximity key, 110v inverter, 10 speaker Infinity, DVD, door sill scuff plates, memory seat, pedals, electrochromatic side view mirrors,
power liftgate, chrome door handles, Homelink, LED rear lights. Saddle leather, in a reddish brown tone is also included. Love the leather, hate that colour.

Our colour choice includes the red, but not the dark blue. Mine is the Dark Bronze on black.

Cdn MSRP for the GLS is $39995, and the Limited, $46K. Hyundai, as well as everyone else, hasn't read the financial section of the newspapers to realize that our CDN $ is near parity with the US $$. So a loaded Limited is $38K US, we pay $46K CDN.

As much as I would love the loaded up Limited, $46K is just a wee bit too much for me to consider. Also, they are extremely hard to come buy. Most available around here are the owners' demos. So the very well equipped GLS will be it for me.

I have the door shown on your picture but behind it is nothing but a felt lined small storage area. I hope your picture is an indication of what will be available as a dealer option.

Finally got my VC, (limited) and love it with the exception of a few minor things. There is one issue that I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing. When driving between 25 and 40 mph and the tachometer is somewhere between 1500 and 2000 rpm (most often and likely to be in 4th gear), and on a slight incline needing some slight gas pedal pressure , I find that the car seems to buck "slightly" and run a little uneven. (this is a condition most often experienced when just doing city driving where we slow up and speed up continuously.....(25-40 mph). I first thought it might be starving for gas, but now my thoughts are that it's just not in a low enough gear and is just struggling (in that too high of a gear). Kind of like what you might feel if you were driving a stick shift and you were in 4th when you really should be in 3rd. If that indeed is the case, then having a 6 speed might be great for highway driving, but sucks for city driving. (If that's the case) Has anyone felt this or have any thoughts on what it might be?. (maybe Arumage....one of our more informative participants)

Also. Anyone tried getting a third "proximity" key? What happens if you have 3 people who want to have keys for the car.....Hmmmmmmmmm. I've had no luck in finding a parts or service person who knows how to get me a third key. Asked about 5 different dealerships and got 5 different answers.????????

    Will it be:

    August
    September
    October
    November

My guess is September! While some feel the Navi option is a waste of money we want it for not only the navi but the backup camera, bluetooth and great radio interface. Cant wait for the '08's to arrive!

This was one of the biggest reasons I liked this car. That and my youngest daughter thinks it's the perfect vehicle. Need I say more?
  • austx37austx37 Member Posts: 18
I looked up rear crash results on this website link you provided and for the Veracruz it noted "failed" in one column. But it also gave it an acceptable rating in another for the same rear crash test. I couldn't find an explanation for the failed column but one of the things that I worry about with the Veracruz is the closeness of the third row to the back of the vehicle. I love the way the Veracruz looks but I wish there was more data on rear crash safety so I can be confident my children are safe in the 3rd row. :confuse:
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
If you take a look at the IIHS rear crash test, you'll see it has nothing to do with the car itself, or how close the seats are to the back of the vehicle. The tests are just of the seats (maybe just the driver's seat?) and are actually done sans car. So "rear crash test" is actually a misnomer.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
Navi is expected to come in Oct/Nov. But it could come early 08.
  • selooseloo Member Posts: 606
Maybe a misnomer until your child is injured or killed.
  • rfreeman06rfreeman06 Member Posts: 5
does anyone know about the amount of space behind the third row in other competitors with the third row up?
  • austx37austx37 Member Posts: 18
I've read that it is 6 cubic feet.
  • joe97joe97 Member Posts: 2,248
It's a mis-print and I am not sure why Hyundai still hasn't corrected such. The space behind 3rd row is more than 6.5 as stated (I haven't gone to the website in a while but that's the number I recall when I was there the last time).

Others (competitors) are bigger but then again, the overall length is also a lot longer than the Veracruz. I'd prefer the shorter car in this case for ease of parking. I think Hyundai shifted more on driver/passenger comfort then storage space, if needed, there are generous space with the third row down.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
I think that response was uncalled for.

If you'll re-read my post, you'll see I was only trying to point out that the "rear crash" test conducted by the IIHS is not done on the vehicle itself, but on the seat, mounted to a test frame. So this test won't tell you, for example, to what extent the Veracruz's structure will protect occupants in a rear crash. The test only tells you how well the seats protect an occupant from injury (especially injuries of the neck). In fact, I think the test is only of the driver's seat, not the 2nd or 3rd row (in the Veracruz's case). So it won't tell you anything about how your children or my children are protected in a rear crash, unless they are driving the car (or maybe sitting in the front passenger seat if it's identical to the driver's seat).
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
Ok some navi features. It will be touch screen with voice prompts hopefully. Maybe voice recognition. It will always come with the logic7 audio system. I wonder if you can order both navi and DVD player together w/bluetooth. That would make an ideal replacement for our 01 sienna.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
This is a very important announcement to prospective navi buyers. The Navi system can't be ordered with the DVD player. So for those who want navi and dvd player buy a dvd player equipped model then a portable nav system. Or buy a portable DVD player.

I just received an email response from Hyundai PR and the aux jack will be available in about 1 month. I sent the picture you posted of it to them to get verification that is what it will look like.

    I have three questions.

    1. Is the 07/08 Veracruz manual available online as a PDF?

    2. Has the 2008 Veracruz pricing been released yet?

    3. Will there be a towing package option for the 08? If not, can anyone provide a picture of what a third party option installed looks like?
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
    Answers:

    1. Umm I dont think they reveal the manual to the public. Unless you are on their owner link.

    2. Yes they did release it already. Pricing has been released for a week or more ago. Some 08 Veracruzes are already at the dealers with some having to wait an extra 1 to 2 weeks. Navi that wont come til later in the year. Maybe early next year.

    3. Towing package could come. I dont have any pics of it. Ask your dealer or hyundai.

Here's where to find an owners manual but I didn't drill down to see who can look at one, or if the '08 is even out there:
