But, if you don't pay the taxes up front, you have to add the tax amount of $1608 to the cap cost, then recalculate the payment. You'll pay rent charge on the tax if you roll it in.

I'm not sure I'd add the government fees to the cap cost; normally, those are not taxable, and if you add them to the cap cost, they then become subject to tax.

Sorry to keep passing this back - you had suggested not paying the taxes up front and rolling it into the cap cost which is what I did with the calculation above.

Is there a different way to calculate/structure this to make the taxes part of the monthly payment, but not include them in the cap cost?

NJ taxes the sum of the monthly payments, and collects the money up front.

You can choose to pay that amount at signing, or roll it into the cap cost and make it part of the monthly payment.

We recommend the latter - if the car is stolen or totaled during the lease, do you think the state will refund you the sales tax you paid but didn't use?

Also, is this quote for a P+ or Prestige trim?

So total cap cost was $48350.81 (sales price + fees + registration/title)

I used the $48,075 number you provided as the cap cost.

What's been added to take that number to $48,351?

Sales price = $47000
Acquisition fee = $895
Doc fee = $179.81
State License/Title/Transfer = $276

That got me to $48350.81 or 673.96/month.
Total taxes on that would be $1607.89 or $44.65 month meaning the monthly lease including paying the taxes monthly would be $718.61

But, if you don't pay the taxes up front, you have to add the tax amount of $1608 to the cap cost, then recalculate the payment. You'll pay rent charge on the tax if you roll it in.

I'm not sure I'd add the government fees to the cap cost; normally, those are not taxable, and if you add them to the cap cost, they then become subject to tax.

Sorry to keep passing this back - you had suggested not paying the taxes up front and rolling it into the cap cost which is what I did with the calculation above.

My total cap cost above was
sales price + doc fees + state stuff + taxes.

Is there a different way to calculate/structure this to make the taxes part of the monthly payment, but not include them in the cap cost?

Seems like a better bet just to pay them upfront then. At least you're not paying interest on the taxes....

True - but, if the car is stolen or totaled during the lease, it's doubful you will get the state to refund you those taxes you pre-paid.
