I just wanted to ask you before i do it if its alright to give your website address to my saleman. He might be able to answer questions you guys have. Let me know if it is cool. I wanted to ask you first
I often cherish the times that I get to rap with salespeople....especially ones that know the technical aspects of a vehicle. Not too many around though....
I doubt he knows the tech stuff. Hes a yr older than me which makes him 21. But with him if he doesnt know he will ask someone who does know. That is why i bought from him. Hes a cool guy dont give him a hard time if he starts to post stuff
I would like to get some opinions re the Zaino products. I know people on this board are pretty independent. I saw a post from Kyle on the Zaino board that appeared to be saying he was not that impressed. I am getting a black/pewter and from what I can read, Zaino seems to do good on black. Any thoughts appreciated. Denny
I have indigo blue. I used the cleaner (Z1) then the polish (Z5). The truck looked better after i did that then the day i picked it up. It stayed looking great till saturday morning when it drizzled and left water spots i ran my finger across the hood and to my amaizment the water spots were gone. it was inbeded into the clearcoat like before i put the stuff on. Now i just wash and dry with no spots. I really like it its the best stuff i have used to date. My suggestion by 1 bottle of Z1,Z2,Z5 and try it yourself only like $8.95 a bottle.
I just got a chance to read your posting of the "rules of the road". Absolutely freakin-hysterical! Although the Italian in the Monty maybe should have been in an IROC. Awesome job!
My '99 stripper didn't come with molding (it was an option in the appearance pak). I only have one dent in my truck. You guessed it, right where somebody swung their door open and it dented right on the ridge where the molding would be.
Saying that, still didn't order molding on my stripper 2001 2500HD crew cab. May have to rethink this.....
Suggestion for you. Dont order it. Ok for my suggestion now. When i had my scratch they had to take off the molding from the fender flare to the end of the bed (next to ext cab). This one piece cost like $8 i think. Why not just go to your parts dept and see how much the molding would cost you and determine if its cheaper than ordering it with it. Also you might just need to put it on the door and not the whole truck. Just a suggestion.
Oh if anyone wants to be really cool you can get a Z71 sticker and put it on your truck (maybe someone should do this with their 2500??)
fyi - i've since put the third coat of zaino on my truck and everything's finally come clean. sooner or later (if it will stop raining around here) i'll get some good digital pics of it clean and post them. bottom line - zaino gets my stamp of approval - whatever that's worth!
one thing i would recommend however and it may be the reason it took mine 3 coats. do the "dawn and clay" method before starting with the zaino. i did NOT do this first, and i think that's what caused my problems initially.
Ooooh, good idea. Maybe I'll add the molding's now! Hopefully my ability to stick on the moldings straight is better than my ability to stick on dirtbike numberplates which I usually screw up pretty badly.
It's easy. Just measure from the ground with a tape measure or yardstick, and put the edge of a piece of masking tape at the mark. Do this in several places. Then take one long piece of masking tape, and stretch across the marks so you have a continuous edge.
Start at one end with the molding, working it along the edge, peeling off the adhesive backing as you go. When finished, you remove the masking tape. Even a neophyte like me can do it.
I did not get an order # as I didn't think about it. The dealer where I'm ordering is the largest and most reputable in our area. The salesman would have no reason (I hope)to lie to me about the target production week (8/14/00).
I think if I were you I would call a couple of larger dealers in your area and see if they could order your 2001 two tone if you came in that day.
From what I've learned the dealers receive their allocation of vehicles on Tuesday and they have until Thursday to enter the order or amend the order.
The small dealer where I first tried to order said they could not even get the GM order system to accept a two tone. The larger dealer said they get plenty of allocation. I think larger dealers have a lot more pull with GM.
Lots of luck - I know how frustrating this process can be. I still don't have my truck and I first put down a deposit 11/99 (small dealer).
One thing to consider when using the method that quad suggested, and that is if your truck body is parallel to the ground. Some truck beds are higher in the back when they are empty. You could try quad's method but before actually applying the moulding, just tape it up and step back to see if it looks like it is level with the truck. If it isn't, then you can adjust it before it is too late and stuck on.
Dooh, I'm running really big tires on the rear and small on the front for improved gas mileage since that way the truck is always going downhill. Guess I'll have to park facing uphill to make the truckbed level.
I really like the Zaino as well. I've got a 2000 Black Z71. I didn't let the dealer touch it. Started with Zaino from day 1. I've not used a lot of other products over the years and I don't know its true protection qualities long term, but it delivers one of the best shines I've seen.
Here is a link to a good forum - http://www.ls1.com/ls1forum/ls1_forum_main.htm . Read the Showcars and Detailing. They are biased just as I am, they are all Zaino zealouts, but several there have years of experience using the product. Just read along a while. If you've got specific questions and want undoubted answers, ask Sal at Zaino, he is very quick about getting back to you and he created the products.
Hey man i cant post (reply or start my own) anything on your site. Is there something wrong or is it me? When i reply and hit post it goes to the same screen as i was at but it is all blank in the text boxes. Whats up with that???
If you have not received your approved username and password, it is too late. Tim's is going to control the quality of his site by limiting the user to one's who have something to say about trucks (only GM trucks no toys etc). No music discussions, no Zaino post, etc. Dustyone
Hey, anybody know of a decent tail gate lock/ or have any opinions? i saw pop&lock for about $35. any one heard of it? there are also some ones that work with the power door locks (cost about $70), not sure if that is the route i want to go. open for input. thanks pat
...the Pop&Lock is the only inexpensive locking system out for the Silverado. Another solution is a few of the hard tonneau covers such as Gaylords or SnugTop incorporate a locking system that will secure the tailgate.
I have set up a link that will email both GMC and Chevrolet from my home page. If we all email them from this link I think it would make "help" understand we would like our vibration related defects cured by whatever means necessary. Take a look at all the new frame bracing added for 2001. Then ask yourself, would adding the frame braces and transmission crossmember be more difficult than the steering TSB? I don't think so! If you agree than...Please click the EMAIL GM link you see in the center of my home page and tell GM your story and how you think they can best resolve the problems with your truck.
jerry so which do you or youre friends use. the pop & lock or others. my buds have already had their tailgate stolen. i am willing to spend $35 for the inconvience. thanks pat

Hmm. Sells Herbalife for health, but smokes cigarettes constantly. Then he wonders why I don't buy any Herbalife products ... or sell them ...

Does anyone know how these would compare to the BF Goodrich shackles? The poster said the cost was around $125.00.
