thanks for the get-back...was beginning to think you had to belong to the "click" to get an answer, regardless of how simple it sounded. I'll look into that color magic stuff. Was that the name of it? Really got me irate when I saw those scratches. As for cab resonance, can't comment just yet. Just started my own research into SEMI-LOUDER-than-factory mufflers. I gave my Blazer to my son and he's gonna put louder pipes on it. My wife said his or mine...not both. May have to piss her off a little . Wish "Brown-eyed Woman" hadn't been mentioned...sitting here tapping my fingers with it rolling thru my head. Again, thanks.
that's a good point about wearing gloves...did my '91 Nissan truck and did not wear gloves...ugh what a mess...did work pretty good though. After 6 months gave in and sent it to Earl Scheib.
do you notice how your posts are ignored in topic #2799, unless you respond to a newbie? To receive recognition in that topic, you need to do two things. First and most important, you need to go out and buy a Yukon. Second, and this may actually tie with first is donate money to CWMartin's website. I guarantee you will be acknowledged once you do the two things I've listed. Other than that, like I said the only people who will acknowledge you are the newbies. Good luck!!! BTW, red is right on this one...what a bunch of LEMON LURDS!!!
I didnt ask him to make a website thats all him. No money from me i dont have much to spend nowadays. Gotta finish paying off the truck my goal is by august. Only 2K to go.
What the heck ill go buy (order) a tahoe tonight after work. They do ignore me maybe i need to start a controversy. At least here you guys talk to me.
I've been following these posts for months, but the only acronym I have yet to figure out is LURD. By asking, I'm sure I'm settting myself for something...
Did you see when CW tried picking up one of the female posters a few weeks back? His big mistake was showing a picture of himself earlier on.
I used to keep up with that topic in earlier versions until the lurds (then newcomers) started giving their life story with every post. Here's an excerpt which is pretty close to the real conversation:
"Got up in the morning, looked out the window at my baby Yukon, went for a dump, went outside to sit in my baby Yukon, started it up, drove around the block, got out of my baby Yukon, farted, got back in my baby Yukon, drove around the block again... yada, yada, yada"
function before beauty, eh? Know of any running boards that are wide enough to actually stand on without doing a balancing act? Always wanted something to make it easier for the older poeple to get in and out. Never found anything though, other than carrying around a small stool.
The ones that came with my Denali are a joke, at least the paint matches.
I got careless and bumped the fourth door with a blue broom handle. Now I have a 3 inch long streak of blue on peweter. I do not think there is a scratch, but I can feel it when I run my finger over the mark. It may have gone through the clear coat. This is not my forte and I need suggestions. How can I get it off with the least damage to the pewter? Thanks, Bob
the noun LURD was first used by redsilverado, I believe it was a name given to him in high school by some of his friends...said that it really had no meaning. When I first heard it one thought came to my mind was a "lame turd".

I guess the picture of CW Martin made Bill Gates look like a stud...LOL
your excerpt of a typical post is on the money. I'll follow the postings for entertainment purposes only. I mean how "anal" can a bunch of people be. I'm glad they congregate in that topic...wouldn't want them spreading out like Aids... . I think this post will probably get scribbled by our host but I had to post it anyway.
bob332
using a good polish will a lot of elbow grease should remove the broom handle paint. Meguire's or any of the decent brands should work. Do not use any type of compound...
Dean, I don't need them for getting in and out of the truck. I just think they add to the appearance. But, you do raise a good point that I need to consider before going out and spending money on something that might make getting in and out of the truck more difficult for everyone, regardless of age. I have never had running boards on previous trucks, but have seen several on the highway and think they look good so I have been thinking about doing a few things to this truck that are different for me.
Any other people out there who have or have knowledge of running boards. I am interested in all views, pro and con before making a final decision. Thanks, Bob
You're right of course. I guess the brain was in neutral this morning. No exuses. And I knew that.
I need to go back and measure my shocks, because the Firm Ride (36mm) shocks on my 2500 are at least as large as the Z71 shocks for the 1500. And the 1500 Firm Ride shocks are puny by comparision. I don't have standard shocks to compare to.
I'm a little suprised that no one wanted to discuss the 2500 vs 1500 thing. It sure looks like the 2500 is a much better deal and a better truck at the same time.
Dont armoral your step pad on your nerf bar. if you do dont step on it right away. I had my nike flip flop sandals on one day after i armoraled it (looked very nice by the way) i stepped onto it to get up in the truck and i slid forward only thing that caught me was the side mirror which saved my life. haha just wanted to warn you guys.
Question: Just wondering. If the running boards on your Denali are too narrow for practical use, do you find yourself sliding you leg past them by placing your foot directly onto the ground when getting out. If so, is there a problem in getting pant legs dirty or wet if the edge of the running boards have road dirt, water, mud etc on them. If this is a problem, then I need to keep it in mind on my Silverado. Thanks again. Bob
I took the suggestion of Kyle Werking and purchased the Westin CPS nerf bars. Best of all (IMHO). Easy to install, no wiring, easy to clean and keep clean. No mess on trouser legs, etc. Would give added protection in the event of a side collision. Never rust, never tarnish, etc. Dustyone
Yes, I do slide my legs past the boards and directly to the ground. Fortunately it is not the rainy season or it may become a problem with getting dirty, not to mention snags which would ruin the pants. If anything, I'm looking at the boards/nerf bars that Tim installed. Not quite a board and not quite a nerf bar, kind a combo of both...was expensive though, slightly under a grand.
ryan you just crack me up. I wouldn't have thought any one would armor all their steps after experiencing what it does to your seats...you are truly an exceptional person and thank you for sharing that experience with us...LOL
we talk to you because you have a Silverado....or at least lead us to believe you do...
Actually the Yukon/tahoe is more the Yuppy type and they are not usually too friendly...you know..cuz they are too good for us. They would rather be around themselves and compare how much material things (hiding behind debt) they have.
2500 debate....come one...we have already had that one before....and we all know it's the superior choice!!
2500 is the portly choice. Besides, I can still put more of the things I need to carry in my long bed 1/2 ton than I could put in a short bed 2500. And the 600 mile unrefueled range of a 1500 with 34 gallon tank is something you don't want to be reminded of in these days of tight fuel supplies.
Like Red (anonymous) suggested to Ryan, I use the all-season variety. You can get it in 35 psi, or any pressure you want. Level at any load I carry. Never needed more than 50 psi to bring it level, right up to the GVWR, on the scale. If I hauled cement, or crushed rock, or top soil, I might feel differently. But Home Depot delivers.
Yeah RYAN, it was Van Morrison, 1967 I believe, I was just starting college. '67 was a good year as that was when Sgt. Pepper came out and music changed forever. First time I heard Brown Eyed Girl I thought it was a new Rolling Stones song...still think it sounds like old Mick. Next question...what ever became of Van Morrison? RYAN, get back on the 'net', I want an answer before midnight!!
JIM: Nah, no one will ignore you, we just don't have that good of a memory any more. The name was Color Magic but I have seen the same product under different names. I just bought the white color today and used it on my wife's jeep, and it did a great job of getting rid of some scratches she picked up somewhere. I liked the job it did so well, I did her whole car in it, came out very nice. Again, wear those surgical gloves! Also, it's cheap, the bottle I just bought was like $7.00.
TIM: How long do you think it will take Ryan to research that answer?
One more thing: You guys ever used http://www.google.com for a search engine. Try it, it really is fast and has a HUGE index. It also gives you lots of options for a search.
Are the calibrations for the computers the ones that are available or the ones that have already been performed. The website wasn't really clear on that.
The other day parked in lot with 3 spaces on either side....you guessed it....some vern in a rice burner parked next to me. As I was walking out of the store, I saw him open the door and BAM! right into the side of the truck...but wait the contour of the door edge of that Toyota Camry perfectly matches with the ding on my driver's side NERF BAR! Totally missed even the rub/bumper strip on the lower side of my door. The two tone paint was saved and the ding in the bar adds character. Fiberglass step....hmmmm...would have needed more boat-in-a-can and repaint...glad to have nerfs. Matt
After checking with a friend at Milford, Mi center, the part numbers indicated are what your VIN is programed with at time of build. The N/A looks like it refers to an update. If there is an update necessary from factory build, then there will be a TSB ref number in the Bullitin column. The only way to verify the numbers is to get the GM Tech 1A or Tech2 scan tool to read the info in the vehicle computer. Snap-on or OTC won't give the whole list. Kind of like flashing the BIOS/CMOS in your desktop computer. Matt
they use the tech 2. The dealer will be able to tell you which updates are available for your truck and which have already been performed. They will also tell you that they will not perform any updates unless your truck shows the symptoms that the updates will resolve. They say in some cases it may make it worse. So...I asked the service advisor what are the symptoms of an item. He tells me, then I tell him "Yep, got that problem", looks at me kind of strange then tells me that they have to verify. So I tell him when was the last time they were able to verify anything that I told him was wrong with my truck. He laughed and authorized all of the updates. So he says...cause I still got the trans growl...
I think the only person that I will actually believe is the tech. Because of the way the service manager and advisor are, the tech is always the person who writes cannot verify. What this is actually telling you is to TEST DRIVE with the tech cause he is not going to go out of his way to find a problem when he has 5 other trucks backed up waiting to be worked on... my $.02. BTW, did I get a little off topic??...hmm..maybe the babblin part is rubbing off....
If I remember correctly, you had 4 guys taking about 4-6 hours to install the running boards? If I had the truck up on a rack, would it shorten the time? Just thinking cause I ordered a new exhaust and may as well order the boards and install both at the same time...
I wouldn't use it on anything. It doesn't help things last (and can in fact shorten the life of certain materials) and it attracts dust. I stopped using it about 15 years ago.
It did get me to use seat belts before they were required, though. I found I could drive my Camaro faster with seat belts on after using Armor All ... I wouldn't slde into the passenger door ...
I use Protectant 303. This stuff does not contain silicone, attract dust or film up the inside of your windshield. It also helps preserve the plastic/vinyl that is inside the vehicle.
For those interested, the latest edition of Motor Trend (August, I think) has a 1/3 off your first purchase coupon on about page 128 or so. Full page add colored mostly solid green.
We had 4 guys..(2 too many) and a hoist and it took about 11 hours?....
We could have sped it up and took a few less..uhhh.."breaks"...Not all 4 were doing something at the same time...so 2 would have been fine...I think the other 2 had nothing better to do that night?
The hoist we used was a drive on rail type...so once up..we couldn't take the tires off...it may have helped some for the rears to take the tires off?....but wasn't really that critical...as they mount before them...just would have gave some more room for fat old me!
Remember..you can't be a baby about not drilling holes. You need a few in the ricker lips..2 in the mid frame for the front boards..and 2 on each side in the rails the bed sits on for the rears.
Use this stuff to protect where you drill. It's good stuff.

Works best when done on a motorcycle.

Short bed? On a truck? Sounds like a car with a big open trunk.
With 2000lbs (rated capacity) in my 1500 the rearend was riding on the bumpstops. Way low in the back. Had to add AirLifts to get it up to level.
With 2000lbs in the back of the 2500 it is almost down to level, but not quite. And it rides great with the load.

I sure hope the long box comes in a 2500 some day...geee golly wiz..
