Is a little different - they have very few options that you can order from the factory (when you compare with other car companies). The DX, LX & EX models with / without automatic w/wo leather, anti-lock brakes and maybe a sun roof. Other than these few selections -and of course the - what color do you want decision. So it is not that big of a deal to buy off the lot.
Toyota & Honda started as 100% imports so they had no choice but to sell this way. IMO this is a carry over from the days when all the cars came from Japan. It is also why they both have so many dealer or port installed options. I work with Japanese companies on a regular basis - The best way to describe most of them is they are manufacturing driven, most USA companies are marketing driven. In Japan they sell what they make, in the USA companies make what they can sell. Not saying one is better than the other -but that is just the way it is.
I found with the purchase of my Tundra that I could get a much better deal on a truck that is already built. In my case the truck came from another state. It had a couple options I didn't want and the color was not my first choice, but I got it for invoice. The dealer was not willing to bargain at all on a pre-order.
I ended getting my truck with a couple extra options for less than a pre-order would cost and got it months earlier.
The Sequoia is a brand new vehicle with a lot of people in line waiting to pay full sticker if not more. Good luck getting a deal on one let alone on a pre-order. Of course, price may not be a big factor for you.
my truck ordered from the factory with everything exactly as i wanted. AND had it delivered to my house. AND had my trade picked up and taken away. AND paid only $365 over invoice. overall, i'd say that's a pretty decent deal. especially considering i never had to see a salesman (except when i went to a different dealer to test drive various options on various trucks to help me decide what i wanted.) i got what i wanted for less than anything else i could have taken off of any lot i visited (five all told).
I factory ordered my chevy silverado just the way i wanted it nothing more nothing less (wanted blue with the flares none on lots just for the toyota guys to know haha)and paid about $500 under invoice. Id rather have paid a little over and got what i wanted (options, color) then paid invoice.
I think some trucks from the Big 3 are hard to order also. I know someone who's been waiting for his F250. Ordered his back in Nov. Latest word he got was it is on it's way. In Kansas City right now.
Me and tim talked about pics yesterday. I told him as soon as i get my tail light guards and i snap some photos ill get em on here. 2 wks minimum 4 wks max hopefully. Thats my only delay. Sorry i apologize.
you could always paint on the tail light guards temporarily (latex paint) or we could make believe that they were there...it really doesn't make the truck and we've all seen em before....
against the Tundra as the title of this topic suggests. Why would the big three want to pick on a non full size truck. I'm sure Toyota could have built it a little larger to truely compete witht the full size. But actually, they say full size but mean mid size and sell their Tundra in both markets. Maybe they will build a true full size and call it the Tundrasaurusrex. Don't quote me on that tho...
they should call the tundra a 1/3 ton...or a 2/5 ton?? It's probably a nice truck, but rumor has it the next generation S-10 will be bigger and have the 4.8L V-8, so it makes me wonder...
The s-10 will be bigger than what? If it's as big as the silverado and has the same engine, what would be the point? Maybe chevy hopes it won't vibrate? Personally, I think your smoking the same stuff rublutoo and trucksferme inhale.
Does anyone know about this truck availible this fall. 6.0 V8 325 HP 370 lbs tourque at 1600 rpm, special ratio transmission for launching, all wheel drive and an extend a cab.if you check out www.gmc.com and click on the sierra there is a small write up about gmc's big secret.I would be the first in line if its priced right and I would throw a supercharger in it.I don't know the specs on it but it's got to be pretty quick maybe near the lightning times with a supercharger in it.
Tundra sales would be up in June over May. That is about when Toyota dealers started offering $5,000 discounts on the Tundra. That thud you hear is the bottom dropping out of Tundra resale values. If on the other hand Tundra sales are down in June - even after the large discount (for Toyota anyway) - what does that tell us about the success Toyota is having penetrating the "full size" (used very loosely to include Tundra) truck market?
Toyota really did a number for themselves with the Tundra. They made a mid-size truck to compete with full-size truck market. Yeah, that's really gonna be a success. All it did was plummet the sales of the Tacoma (Tacoma and Tundra are closely priced now with all the Tundra discounts). With the Tacoma reduced so much, and the Tundra not selling the numbers that it was suppose to, Toyota seems to have really got their niche in the big three sales, huh?
Chevrolet and GMC sold more trucks in may than Tundra will sell all year...
I was following behind a Tundra this weekend on the freeway, when all of a sudden I noticed a LOT of water let loose from the truck--I do believe she blew a hose. I pulled up next to the truck and pointed toward the hood and to pull over, but the nice lady just smiled and waved back at me...hope Toyota has the coolant loss protection like GM does, cuz there was one owner needing it.
...i'd go back in this topic and find the posts that stated something to the effect of, "you'll never see tundra's discounted because toyota has them on a limited first year run and they expect to sell all 100k of them. because of their reliability, they will EASILY sell all 100k, and ramp production up to 200-250k per year." don't see that happening any time soon guys. toyota dealers in columbia, sc are all but giving their tundras away. the real reason this topic is dying is because the big 3 has no competition in the full-sized truck realm.
robbie - as for the vibe problems, gm ain't the only ones that have it. go take a look at that tundra solutions board. bunches and bunches of tundra owners complaining about vibrations that "holier than thou reliable toyota" can't seem to fix. i'd bet that if you conducted an unbiased study, a greater ratio of tundra owners have experienced vibration problems than gm owners. there's even a guy over there who's collecting emails from other tundra owners who are experiencing vibration problems because when he tries to present his case to toyota, they blow him off! i think you're all going to see pretty quickly that the jd powers initial quality award that the tundra won this year ain't going to be worth the paper it's printed on...
bottom line: i can only assume that those of you tundra fans on this board are bragging about your trucks for the same reason i'm bragging on mine. that is, because we haven't experienced any problems with our trucks. all that said, tundra is still less truck for more buck and will be until it gets through adolescence...
yeah, it's suppose to be Dakota size. I can throw out name just like you. My point is, that if compacts grow to Dakota size, where does this leave the Tundra?? It's probably a good alternative to a compact, but not really much difference in size, power, etc., over the Dakota. Besides, my lawnmower has a posi rear end that isn't even available on your Tundra. LOL...
maybe you shouldn't post unless you have something useful to say. By the way, I don't smoke anything. Your name calling is really entertaining, but can't you do any better?? Well, you bought a Toyota so I guess not...better luck next time robbie. How about responding to the questions instead of calling childish names - reminds me of dodge50 - two of a kind...
that when you show robbie some facts that he doesn't like...he tends to change the subject? or maybe just ignore what you're saying in favor of calling names.
just curious rob, since you love criticizing the silverado for it's vibrations, what do you have to say about tundra's experiencing the same vibes, and toyota doing nothing about it? if you're not familiar with that of which i speak, go to: www.tundrasolutions.com
oh, but don't go there thinking it'll be a quickie. you're going to be there a while reading about all those tundra vibes now...
I quote all these for you. Facts not fiction or made up took from the tundrasolutions board:
"I think I have developed the same problem: intermittent rattle just aft of driver's door, just a little higher than my ear level. But it only rattles when my window is all the way up.
there's a wicked rattle that comes from somewhere deep inside the dash board-- a sticky creak that makes you want to claw your eyes out. I noticed that it acts up only when it is cold outside or I am running the AC. When the truck it hot she's nice and quiet... At about 200 miles, the dealer didn't want to create other rattles and creaks by taking the dash apart to investigate. They also suggested that over time parts might settle and stop making noise
Service manager just informed me that a new TSB is forthcoming in August re., REAR wheel vibes....a new "star" adjuster and new drums from what he can tell...
Hate to burst your bubble, but, been there done that. The front brake TSB is to address the shakes when you apply the brakes. The front brakes are not engaged when you don't have your foot on the pedal. Of course disc brakes drag a bit. I had the TSB preformed, absolutely no affect. My truck may have a different causality than any other, but the design seems stress prone rather than stress resistant. At least as far as vibrations.
I am getting a vibration, roar when I am under a very hard load or acceleration. You feel it through the seats and truck, not really in the wheel. It kinda sounds like a fan clutch but defintly doesnt feel that way. Is this what people are feeling with an out aligned driveshaft?
I have a SR5/Access/V8 with 1K miles on it. Since day 1 I've noticed a "growl" or moan at 1200-1400rpm under a load. It correponds with a change in the way the truck feels in the seat of your pants, you can't really hear it as much as you feel it Reply yo above: I have had the same symptoms on a few vehicles and it turned out to be a heat shield vibrating
Sorry this is so long but i thought i would highlight a few problems i found while looking in that tundrasolutions website for about 10 min.
As you can see toyota is also having problems like any other vehicle or peice of equipment that is mechanical.
insert break here for slander and name-calling from tundra owners who refuse to believe anything can go wrong with their trucks. gentlemen, the next five posts are for you to be immature and dodge the issues. incidentally, if you want to do some real name calling, stop on by tim's site where your posts will not get deleted for doing so...
LOL!! Out of the thousands of posts on Tundra solutions, that's all the dirt you could find? Definetly pales in relation to the many, many serious problems which affect tens of thousands of Silverados. Keep these compares coming...makes the Tundra look better all the time.
See i told you denial and excuses. RWELL I took 5 minutes of my time. i didnt dig far just scracthed the surface. You want me to keep going? I will just Wait till about 12 while im on my lunch.
tens of thousands where did you get that number? From the 50 (just an estimate maybe low maybe high) of the silverado owners who have posted about vibes??? Please i would like a factual source. Thanks
"O.K. - I now have the serious vibration when braking!! As several of you may remember, I was certain that the vibration problem was NOT associated with the brakes - I now believe that it is at least a part of the problem
Now my Tundra vibrates at low speeds, highway speeds and during braking. The low speed and highway speed vibrations is at worst an terrible inconvenience; however, the braking problem really has me concerned - REALLY concerned. My Tundra goes into the shop immediately and I won't take this as being "normal"!!
I am taking my 2000 SR 5 "Vibrating" Tundra on the first road trip tonight. It only has 2000 miles and been back 8 times for the vibrations
I left work friday night and by the time I got home, not only were the brakes doing the "warp" thing.....I had smoke coming from 3 of the 4 wheels. Now that looks real classy for a $30K truck!
I have a passenger that witnessed the vibrations all the way from Jackson to Nashville
I've noticed that I'm having the vibration when I stop .... but not always and not to the same degree
My rear leafs were not lined up, dealer lined them up and retorqued the U-bolts to spec. Just looked last night, the springs are not lined up now. Is this a cause or effect of the vibes
I have owned my SR5 regular cab 4wd for about 10 days. When I first tried the truck out I noticed the very viberations talked about in this topic but was unaware of the extent of the problem. I was taken up by its overall performance and workmanship. I told the salesman that I felt some shake at different speeds but he blew-it-off. He said would have the wheels balanced and aligned before delivery. Now, 400 miles later the same problem exists.
It appears some of you have started the arbitration process to settle the complaints you have with your Trucks. If that's the case, please start a separate thread to discuss the process. Thanks. ------------------ My Tundra Solutions Messenger ID is tundrasolutions@hotmail.com "
