Scott, I agree with you. I don't think it would be worth it to trade in a practically new '07 just to get the '08 X Sport.

Cadreamn, I'm about 95% sure on the '08s being out late August or early September. If you take a look at the Infiniti web site, they're currently advertising their year end sale, and the FX and QX are already '08s with the G37 to follow August 21st. I think all of the '08s will be in showroom by then, besides the EX, which will be out in December.

When the X Sport will be available is more of an estimate. But to me, it only makes since that it would be available around the beginning of the winter season. If anyone else has some further info, please let us know.

I thought the 3.7 displacement is going into the 08 sedan.

I am shopping too and would consider a slightly used car if the discount is good. So far it hasn't been enough.

By the way, many of the slightly used '07 sedans are former rentals.

You'll fall for it and figure out a way...one can always manipulate numbers ($$) to convince themselves it's a win-win...as pro-G as you have shown yourself to be, the human mind works and works and works on that 08X Sport...you can just see it in your driveway or behind the wheel with those cool magnesium paddle shifters and maybe in a color which is new and even drop dead better than the color you have. Think about it, Scott........

Hi everyone. I am a first time poster to this forum. Reading through it has been a great help to me. I am looking to buy a new G35 sedan sometime in the next month, but am considering holding out if Infiniti offers incentive financing for the 2007 models. I've noticed that for all the models where the 2008 is available, Infiniti is offering low incentive financing for the 2007s. What are the chances that the same thing will happen for the 2007 G35 sedans?

Should I buy now or wait a little longer to see?

    Thanks,
    David

    50-50 chance...wait.

    David,

Assuming you have good credit, the APR of your loan is just as negotiable as the price of the vehicle. Especially if the rate you want is being offered on other vehicles. If you're ready to buy the car now, go for it.

    Check out this article: http://autos.yahoo.com/consumerreports/article/financial-services-hidden-fees-autoloan-markups-405.html

Once you have the price of the car set, tell them you want it at the special APR. If the dealer wants to sell the car, i'm almost positive you'll get it. I've definitely seen it done before.

    Good luck!
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
I agree. When they are throwing incentives in, there is a reason. Once new model year comes out, last model year loses substantial value (Something you will be on the short end of in the event of an insurance loss or if/when you resell/trade in). You also have an asset that is depreciated, and the longer you wait, the more of them are on the road. Best example is the 07G coupe...they are giving them away...for a good reason. As I've told people in negotiations before "You want my money a lot more than I want what you're selling". Even if that's not true, use that mindset and get one ! !

    Nope.

I've learned some more on what the changes to the navigation and technology packages will be for '08.

The rearview monitor will become part of the navigation package. The technology package will obviously lose the rearview monitor but gain pre-crash seatbelts that will use a motion sensor on the brake pedal.

Infiniti is making some really smart moves for '08...

Other than my test drives, I have no experience with RWD vehicles. We don't get much snow in Houston, but as anyone here knows all too well today, we do have plenty of rain, and I'm wondering if the G35 sedan will be noticeably slippery in those kinds of conditions. I've considered AWD, but I've been told I don't need it.
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
If you plan to race in that rain....get awd, otherwise let the myriad of computer systems keep you in line with rwd. Sport adds LSD rear, and my traction / stability control is incredibly fast to jump in to keep me straight. Snow will prob be another story, but time will tell (NJ gets all weather).
  • desidoggdesidogg Member Posts: 26
I live in Houston too and I've had my G35 sport for 6 months now. I wanted an AWD but I was told that there were no AWDs available in the whole southeast. If you want one, you will have to order it.

There is significant slippage on wet roads. I drive very conservatively when it rains. I would have preffered the AWD.
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
We should all drive conservatively in the rain...it's slippery. Awd doesn't help you stop, so if we all drive slower, less of us will crash. We have lots of SUVs crash here in NJ in the snow for just that reason. My traction control goes off plenty in the dry...it's a 306hp car. Wait for the X sport and kill both birds. Current X suspension is too soft for the drivetrain.
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
Current X suspension is too soft for the drivetrain

Okay, now you've gotten my attention!
The X suspension is NOT too soft in this car... not at all.

I've driven both and I will say that I can feel a difference in ride comfort on back country roads, but this is only caused by the 17" vs 18" tires.
There is no noticable difference in handling unless you're going top end through a curvy track with 4WAS.
The X and Sport come with the exact same suspension, minus the wheel size.

My X takes 25 mph winding exit ramps at 80 mph, and the only reason I don't do it faster is because it's just too darn dangerous. If someone broke down around a corner, I'd never stop in time.

The G's suspension is fantastic and certainly not too soft for the drivetrain.

    Sorry John (lol)
You and I have always had each others back in this forum, but this was like a pebble in my shoe!
    :P
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
Sorry for the pebble ! !
It may have been the tires...or the fact that I drove my S2000 to the dealer...but it did feel soft/shakey. Not towncar soft, just kinda soft for a car with that sort of power. Being a skyline fan from BEFORE it was in gran turisom and got popular...I would have got an X if it felt better. I actually prefer your wood over my aluminum...but sport is only aluminum. 4ws is the only option I didn't get. Those same tires that feel so good in the dry are prob gonna suck in the snow...so we'll see. As I told the dealer, when I chose the sport....there goes the idea of four wheel drifts in a big parking lot ! ! !
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
Okay... I'll caulk this up to the fact that you took your S2000 in and immediately hopped into a luxury sports sedan.
I'm not sure what the deal was with the car you drove but with all the words I could use to describe my car, "soft" & "shaky" are definitely not in the list.
I test drove a lot of cars before deciding on the G and with my choice of the X model, I definitely don't feel like I lost anything in the performance dept.

The 18's will come as soon as I get my money's worth from the stock 17" rubber.
The seats are a personal preference, I like the X/Journey seats a little better.
Only other thing I'm missing is paddle shifts and if I really, really needed them, I'd go buy a Honda Fit!!! :P
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
: ) I should have probably pointed out that my test drive consisted of a few 80 + MPH bursts and some "Rapid" lane changing on a 3 lane road. I test them how I'll drive them!!!
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
    lol
I had a very similar test drive.
I thought I was scaring the salesguy until he took over.
After we had returned to the dealership, I asked if I could walk through their inventory lot to check out all of the color/interior combos.

He drove... and let's just say.. he showed me the very limits of the car's capabilities.
Test drives like that should come with a free change of shorts.

After that test drive, I would never buy a "new" car with a few hundred miles on it!!!
Oh, and my purchase decision was made too! :shades:
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
It's funny you say that. I knew I was getting navi (For the stereo), so I asked to test an X and a Sport without navi....just to make sure I didn't beat on my future car ! !
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
When driving around, if I hit the Info button and then choose "Where am I?", it brings up a list of three streets.
#1) The one I was last on.
#2) The street I am currently on.
    #3) The next upcoming road.

I want details like the Town/City & State that I am currently in.

My Acura MDX gives me details like this by just touching the screen.
I don't need things like Latitude/Longitude/Altitude... but knowing what town I'm in would be really nice.

Anyone know if the Navi in the G can do this?
I can't seem to find how.
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
I think you're out of luck. I went to meet someone recently and they asked where I was...meaning what town...and I had no clue...although I found the info you listed.
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
I guess the only option to to find the nearest point of interest and assume from there. :(

I bought my G35sedan a few weeks ago and those guys would not offer anything better on the financing. They wouldn't even match the 5.25 i got from my credit union. Even when I told them its a no go and got up, still no budge. Apparently the parent Nissan corp. who does the financing is in control. You want any other car at infiniti, they will play ball, except the g35 sedan.
  • steverestevere Member Posts: 14
Got my g35 a few weeks ago, love it. Some data points for those folks who are considering the car.

1st the car is really amazing. Just a really nice car.
I got my car at $500 below invoice. This was through my company. The dealer was not giving discounts until June as the demand was so high, they did not have to give a discount - so they didn't. Go figure.

Interest rate was 6.55% - it was better than credit union. They shaved off .5% when i got the $900 protection for the pain and interior. Pays for itself.

The compact flash card is really cool as i need not use a mp3 player. But it has been a pain trying to figure out. Here is some data. You can store a max of 512 files, if you go beyond this, it will just drop off your music files. The music is sorted by the order you copy to the flash card. Ie, copy item X 1st, and it shows up first. supports WMA and MP3 formats, BUT only supports WMA 192kbps, nothing higher, and only v 9.2.

The A/C is really amazing. Gets super cold, super fast.

Car just hugs the road - handles like a dream

The car requires PREMIUM - SUPER UNLEADED. 92 octane. Basically the expensive stuff. The manual lists this, the actual tank where you fill up lists this, so I would not recommend med or low grade fuel.

The rear camera is cool, but if you get water on the lens, can't see out too well:)

The navigation is great, better than the one from Ford, the view is great.

XM is wonderful - i liked the xm radio so much that i put it in 2 other cars

The traffic feature is cool - you can use the arrow keys and view all the traffic ahead. Pretty cool.

I would recommend this car to anybody who is thinking of it.

Thanks for the info! Looking forward to the 2008 model.
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
Congrats ! ! Maybe I'll have them look at my AC at my 3K visit...mine drags its feat at idle getting to a true cold. That being said, it's 95+ here in NJ now..but my old TL handled it no problem (This used to be TL Vs G35 forum). I don't think anything in this price really compares to this car...if you are objective and not brand loyal. I will say infiniti finance sucks...they made a mess of my first lease payment (To the point where I have a free oil change/service and got a $20 credit from them), but I don't hold that against this amazing car ! ! Gotta love the "Bubble-eye view" of the rear camera in the rain..
  • billyperks1billyperks1 Member Posts: 151
    Me too.
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
John, You really do need to get the A/C looked at.
You've mentioned many times how you are unhappy with how it doesn't get that cold and every time I read that, I'm like :confuse: :confuse: :confuse: .

    My A/C is BLAZING cold.
So cold, that I have to turn off the driver's side vent, as frostbite starts to kick in on my left forearm soon after I get in the car.

I'm in MA and the summer here is just like yours in NJ.
    Hot and Humid

Have it looked at, it should be VERY cold!
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
Love the confused car icons ! ! Oil change/service is due soon....I'll have them check it. Works fine once I start moving and get some air through the condensor...but lags from initial start. Works similar to my old 92 accord ! !
  • yourockyourock Member Posts: 8
Just wondering how many people get the Accessories Basic coverage. It says it's 4 years ("if purchased at time of sale"). Do you recommend it?
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
Just put in 1200 miles (Way upstate NY from South Jersey + sightseeing). Other than the poor gas mileage (Total average was 22.1 / highway was about 24), the car is wonderful. Quick review of R&T comparison has it quieter at 80 than either lexus or acura, and I believe it. Cruising 90 - 100 seems the same as cruising 65-75. Has ANYONE figured out how to bypass the nav lockout once rolling for most of it's features? This showed itself to be an incredible nuisance while trying to look up places (Other than 4, of course). Car had 3K miles when we left...fresh mobil one oil change, but the mpg still sucks. Def recommend this car to anyone wanting a fast smooth luxurious car.
  • ocg35manocg35man Member Posts: 52
I can't believe you are complaining about poor gas mileage with 07 G35. A car with 3.5 6cyl,306 HP, quick and excellent
handling with Hwy mileage of 24 and combined avg of 22.1, that isn't bad at all!

Also with 20 Gal tank, G35 has longer range than most sedans
    in its class.

My point is just enjoy your fabulous ride and don't worry
    too much about MPG. :)

I test drove a G35 Sport yesterday but forgot to test one thing...
Do the paddle shifters work while in D?
I use this a lot when I'm on D on my wife's RDX and need a quick downshift (e.g. for a pass). I find this nice because you can downshift without having to change to S mode.

Is it the same with the G35-S?
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
I might agree, had I not come of a TL. TL highway would have been high 20's with an overall of 26ish on a similar trip. There are do-it-all sedans, and an MPG at least close to what they advertise would be nice. Z06 Vette gets like 30 or so on the highway. As for the paddles in the sport, yes they override the trans while in drive. I use them sometimes for a quick surge, or to actually upshift after a hard stab at the gas...the trans will hold the gear thinking I want to play. Neat stuff. By the way, anyone changing their own oil bring a 10mm ratchet down there to remove the full bellypan. Impressive stuff underneath...big hunks of aluminum everywhere....looks like it's built to handle 400+ hp.
  • steverestevere Member Posts: 14
You have to push the shifter to the left while in drive, then you can shift as you mentioned. IE, if you are just in Drive, it won't magically work, but if you are in Drive, shove the shifter to the left, it will work great.
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
Not so. Shifter in left position will hold it in manual mode. Either paddle, at any time, will force it into a temporary manual mode. If left alone, it seems it kicks back to D in 30 -45 secs.
  • steverestevere Member Posts: 14
Figured I would share some of the compact flash issues i've learned re the G35.

I love the compact flash, but the limits suck and I can not understand why Nissan did such a great job on the car and gave these limits.

512 file limit - if you have the nav system. Without i believe it is 999 file limit.
No sorting - the files are in the order you copied them to the compact flash.
    No playlists
Only supports 192 bit rate or lower.

I've talked with the dealer and they said they would talk with Nissan, but no word yet.

I ended coding a tool to work with the Windows Media player playlists to get around some of the limitations. But still, should not have to code a tool when you are working with at 34k machine.
  • steverestevere Member Posts: 14
I was unaware of it. So while I am in drive, i an shift the sucker? As long as i do not press the button moving from D N R?

I will give it a try.
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
You got it. I think my logic program in my transmission thinks I speed too much, so when I goose it from a stop (Love the instant torque of this thing), it will hold 1st gear for too long regardless of throttle position...quick tap upshifts it into 2nd, then it puts itself back into D in time for 3rd. That sucks on the CF card...I loaded mine up once, put it in, saw the order of everything was all over the damn place and went back to the music box. I actually made a few cd's from mp3s to in turn rip into the music box as not to deal with the card.
  • black00black00 Member Posts: 48
Bummer... I was hoping it was the same as in our Acura RDX. The RDX when in "D" mode, will let you downshift, which puts it temporarily in "manual" mode... it'll go back to regular "D" once it detects you don't want to play anymore.
It also has a "S" mode, not available on the G35 which is like "D" but will hold gears into higher rpms for a more spirited drive. While in "S", if you tap the paddle shifters, then it goes into "full manual", i.e. it won't shift unless you do, like in the G35 (when pushed to the left).
Having said that, the G35 paddle shifters are much nicer with the leather and all (cheap plastic in the RDX).
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750

The G has the 'S' mode as well. As soon as you shift to the left, it will get into the 'S' mode. It will change to manual when you shift up and down. :shades:
  • steverestevere Member Posts: 14
It did not work for me. On my g35x, i put the shifter in D, and i have to push the shifter to the left before I can use the paddles. Otherwise, it just moves to Neutral.
  • black00black00 Member Posts: 48
That's good to know that the G has the full auto Sports mode too. And it goes to show how much these salespeople know about the cars they sell... I asked specifically about that and the guy told me no, that once I put the shifter to the left I had to use the paddles or the back and forth on the shifter to shift... which I did and so didn't try to just leave it there to the left. It had made sense to me, because on my A4 once you push the shifter to the right, you do have to shift, otherwise it'll hold whatever gear it was on.
  • black00black00 Member Posts: 48
    Stevere,
I suppose you meant your G35-S? From what I know only the 07 Sports model has the paddles. I did read somewhere (maybe here at Edmunds) that for 08 they'll have the G35x Sport.
  • johninnjjohninnj Member Posts: 243
X, as far as I knew (Where's scott?) does not have paddles. Sport model (At least) will go to pretty much full manual once shifter is pushed to the left. It will downshift itself as you slow though when the rpms make no sense. As far as I know, it won't upshift though without input.
  • steverestevere Member Posts: 14
Maybe I have my terms confused. If I put my shifter in to D, then push it to the LEFT, I am able to manually shift up and down - like a stick shift (minus the clutch).

This is on a 2007 G35x Sedan. I think it is the paddle shifting, but maybe it is something different.
  • steverestevere Member Posts: 14
Is 25 mph considered poor gas millage? My 2000 olds (that we threw out) was getting 22 and it only had 220hp.

I get a solid 25 one road trips. Doing solid 19 around town.

I figure at 306hp, that is pretty decent.

Granted, it ain't 45 like my 150 hp (450lbs) Yamaha FZ 1 Motorcycle, but that carries only 2, and not so fun in rain:)

As for the bypass, i "could" be wrong, but I have 2 types of units - 1 is in the G, the other is a Pioneer unit. The pioneer unit require(d) you to have the parking break pressed before features would be available. This really sucked and I could buy-pass - just push the parking break wire to ground.

But in the G, it seems to be related to you moving or not moving - no relation to the parking break. They could be using the actual GPS data thus no real way to bypass.

One item to note, you can use the Voice commands to do stuff that you can't do on the screen while driving. Perfect, no, but it is better than nothing.
  • black00black00 Member Posts: 48
    Stevere,
The 07 G35X does not have the paddle shifters behind the wheel like the Sport model (on the left of the wheel for downshifts and on the right for upshifts).
You can manually shift as you said, by pushing the shifter back and forth. This can also be done on the Sport.

Thanks to all that replied. So, it's confirmed that the paddles (behind the wheel) do not work when the G Sport is in regular D mode.
