It looks like the residual for the 2022 Touring is about 10% less than the residual for the 2022 Sport. It seems like a penalty to pay more for the additional features offered on the Touring and on top of that get a much lower residual value than an EX or Sport model.

Would you consider a lease for a Touring still a "good" lease option given the fact that the residual for the Touring is lower than the other Civic trims?

I don't know the numbers for the 2022 model. I highly doubt the residuals are 10% apart.

I think you are mixing up the lease term.. The 75% on the Sport is for 24 months, while the 65% for the Touring is for 36 months (according to the article)

It appears the Sport trim is wildly more popular than the Touring trim since the residual for the Touring trim is so much lower than the residual for the Sport trim.

Is it the case for most vehicle models that the higher end trims have a lower residual value than some of the mid-tier trims?

No, not a lower Residual Value

The actual Residual Value isn't necessarily lower. Residual is calculated as a percentage of MSRP.

Example (not the actual numbers)

Sport: 69% of $24,000 MSRP = $16560 residual value
Touring: 65% of $30,000 MSRP = $19,500 residual value

I realize this forum is for the 2021 Civic, but since only a few people have posted in the 2022 Civic forum, I thought I would post this 2022 Civic information here in the 2021 Civic forum.

These are the responses I received from 2 Southern California dealers that I reached out to for a 2022 Honda Civic Touring lease:

Sell Price $32,694.00
$3000 down / 36 months / $483 a month for 12k miles per year
MF - .00150
Res. – 64%

Money Factory is 0.00150 Residual is 64% = $19001.60 for 36 months based on 12K miles a year. Payments are $537.98
For 24 months Residual is 65% =$19298.50 based on 12K miles a year . Payments of $761.98

I didn't bother to negotiate with either dealership since these monthly payments are way more than I would pay for a Civic.
