Apologies if this is not the appropriate place to post this but looking for some advice. I purchased an Audi A6 55 Prestige on Friday. Original plan was the trade-in my car for 12k, put down 14.5k and then finance the rest. As I was finishing up the paperwork the finance mgr mentioned a lease which I hadn’t considered. Below are the details. I have a few days to decide if I were to switch to the lease. If I were does this look like a good deal? The sales price is what I already negotiated.

MSRP: $74,075
Discounts: $10,977.80
Sales Price: $63,097.20
Trade-in: $12,000
Processing fee: $695
Tax: $2,675.80
Non tax fee: $960.75
Balance: $ 55,428.75

Monthly payment: $657 36 months/10k miles residual value: $36,297

If I were to switch to a lease it sounds like I should take a check for the trade-in not pay down the lease. I guess my question is - does it look like the payment terms are good based on what they’re quoting at this point? I’d probably switch it to 36 months/7500 miles and then obviously take the 12k cash back so the payment will change. Leasing is equivalent to renting - at the end of 3 years, you turn your car in and start over.

If you keep your cars longer than that, you should just buy it, and skip leasing.

You are correct that you don't want to use your trade equity as down payment if you lease - that money would be lost if the car is stolen or totaled during the lease, and, it doesn't change the cost of the lease.

If they are quoting you $650/mo with the trade equity included, then that's a lousy deal.

I don't think you'll be able to negotiate $10K+ off the sticker price, TBH. Inventory is short for almost all makes and models, and reports from members are showing little, if any, discounting, along with MF mark ups.

Let us know what the dealers come back with.

Will do. I’ve already got the 10k off MSRP. The car is in my possession but they said if I wanted to switch to a lease from financing that I could as long as it was by the beginning of this week. Bigger question I think is whether I can get the 5,000 lease cash at this point as well.

You've signed and taken delivery, and now the dealer is giving you the option of reworking the contract to a lease?

I wouldn't assume you can get the same discount if you switch. And, you've indicated you want to hold back the trade equity and get a check, instead.

You're basically starting from square 1, IMO.

Yea not really sure. He brought up the lease as we were finalizing the financing paperwork. I was short on time so I asked if I could come back in a few days if I wanted to go that route. The quote he gave me to take home included the 10k discount off MSRP I had already negotiated as a sales price. But you’re right, I’d be going back and asking for a lower MF and to be paid out for the trade. Seems unlikely and I’d probably just stick with the financing contract.
