They have not shared any MF/residuals with detailed quote with me yet. If people can post their local quote then that will be appreciated.

So as it turns out, I got some quotes and after some back and forth with dealers on transparent quotes what I can now say is that dealers are charging an average markup of $3000 on top of MSRP, so your $46k will be $49k. And on top of that MF can go up to 0.0025 as opposed to 0.00143 standard VW. That way your lease at least in bay area may be in the ball park of $600-$700 per month + $3000 out of pocket cash.

Coming from traditional leasing experience and getting good deals in the past, I am hesitant on getting into this now. Given the hot market, I could have accepted may be a $1000 mark up but both markup and higher MF is just way too much to accept. I wonder if others have similar experience or it is just me.

If you think you'll want to get rid of the car in three years, then lease it. Otherwise, buy it.

There isn't a great financial benefit to realizing the $1900 in extra incentives. As you note, you'll give back $700 immediately via the acquisition fee. Also, the MF is equivalent to paying 3.5% interest on the amount borrowed.

Maybe, you have some way to realize some capital gains that might raise your tax bill, to capture the full amount of the tax credit?

Can you tell me how a buyout on a lease is calculated? Would I pay for all three years of the money factor if I did this or only the months used? Thank you. Just trying to weigh options. I like leasing because as EV technology evolves, it gives me flexibility.

I reserved a ID4 today. I drove one and VW did a great job on this car.

Generally, you don't pay unrealized finance charges on a lease.

Instead of taking money out of the IRA, you could convert it to a Roth (same tax). That way you don't lose the future tax-free growth.

Seems like you are in a pretty low tax bracket (12%?) It might take a substantial conversion to come up with $1900 in additional Federal tax.

If you are going to buy the car out within a few months, it won't matter what term you use, as your buyout will be close to the adjusted CAP cost, for which term has no effect.

Will the payment be lower for 24 months? Maybe. It depends on the dealer discount. Working against you is amortizing the fixed costs (dealer fees, acquisition fee, etc) over fewer months.

If your goal is to own this car, I'd work on a Roth conversion to get my Federal tax bill up to $7500. Then, buy it. Win/Win.

The RV at 24 months isn’t high enough to make it worth doing — 56% for 24/10 vs. 49% for 36/10. As @kyfdx said, if you are sure you want to buy it out, better to do a Roth conversion to maximize your use of the tax credit vs. leasing and having to waste $700 on the acquisition fee. In my opinion, the lease only makes financial sense if you truly want the option of walking away at the end of it — or if you do a single pay, since that makes the implied interest rate a little more in line with financing rates.
