So i just came back from the dealer and i was trying to lease a grand cherokee limited 4x4 for 0 down 39mo 10k. The sticker is $53,890 but when i calculate it my monthly is $725.34 and they are coming up with 748.84. This is the print out he gave me and said he don’t know why the numbers are different and that the auto calculators aren’t right . Can someone please look and tell me what i am missing or what they are adding in there . Thanks

You are attributing the full $2500 to CAP reduction, in your calculation, but part of that $2500 is being used to pay the first payment and the fees. Paying the first payment out of the $2500 would account for the difference in calculation, almost by itself.

Actual capped sales tax is less than your calculation, but I don't see where you have made any allowance for 1st payment and fees.

$2480 tax actual vs. $2695 on the calculator
$0 Due at signing actual vs. $723 due at signing on calculator.
$428 in fees, actual vs. $0 fees in calculator
-$1214 in CAP reduction actual vs -$2500 in calculator

$1694 net actual vs $918 in calculator
= $776 higher actual CAP cost.

$776/39 = $20/mo. higher payment

That's not exactly the difference, but I was rounding things off..
And, it's not really more expensive, because you don't have the first payment out of pocket.

After almost 4 months of inquiring about numbers, I finally picked up my new vehicles on Monday and owe you guys some numbers:

On the MY23 Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve 4xe, I paid $2k at signing, 39 months/10k miles, with $8,730 negative equity from the old and a $1,300 service contract for the new vehicle, the monthly payment is $1,183.94 incl. tax (Sticker: $86,960).

On the MY23 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe, I paid $1k at signing, 39 months/10k miles, with $450 positive equity from the old and a $1,300 service contract for the new vehicle, the monthly payment is $890.73 incl. tax (Sticker: $73,225).

Usually, I'm not a fan of rolling a high amount of negative equity into a new lease but the discounts, rebates and credits on the Summit Reserve were $20,000 so I could do this with the monthly payment only going up by $90 - for a newer and better equipped vehicle.

Thanks again to all contributing members on this forum - you guys helped a lot in evaluating the deals.

Landed a lease on a limited 4xe for my brother this afternoon.

Probably could have gotten more off, but he opened his mouth and gave numbers that worked against where I was going. (I was shooting for 7.5%-10% from the dealer + incentives)

Nonetheless, here’s the terms

Ok, so nightmare afternoon dealing with the dealer… my brother went in to finish paperwork after getting loan approval this morning.

Despite explicitly telling the salesman yesterday that we wanted the equity out of the trade multiple times and selecting a zero down term, they secretly rolled the equity in anyway. If we pull equity out, price will increase ~$143/mo

They’re also telling us that there’s an extra $1650 for a vehicle protectant and glass etching which we also explicitly said we don’t want and won’t pay for.

So if we pull the equity out and pay the extra $1650, the pre tax payment goes to ~$643/mo instead of the ~$500-$507 we were expecting (which after calculating should have been more like $470)…. Should have really done the math out in detail sooner; that’s on me

If we leave equity in and pay the extra ~$1650, per tax payment would go to ~$516.

Very convoluted…. Deal is on hold at the moment, and obviously we’re pretty pissed off.

Not feeling like this is a good deal anymore.

I don’t see why we couldn’t change dealers at this point. What makes this even more frustrating is that we’ve used this dealer multiple times before (just not this salesman) and nothing to this magnitude has ever happened.

I normally do run the numbers myself, but guess I just gained enough trust in this dealership that I let it go.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still not a bad deal, but it’s no where near as good as we were initially thinking.

643/639.9 = 1.004, so just very slightly above the 1% rule. Plus there’s also a $3750 federal tax credit that isn’t factored in and would reduce the effective payment.

You are leasing though, right? If so, the $7,500 tax credit is going right into the lease and there will be no additional $3,750 tax credit.

The $3,750 only apply if you buy (finance) the vehicle. In that case, however, you won't get the $7,500.

It's either/or...

We don't have the Stellantis lease programs available to us, only Chrysler Captial.

However, the dealer is correct in that the bank (whichever it is), is offering the $7500 as a lease incentive, since the bank would receive the tax credits as the owner of the vehicle.
