I'm in the Portland, Oregon area and I would love to get a price like that. I'm looking for a Grand Touring AWD model with just about everything. GT Asst Pkg, Moonroof/Bose Audio Pkg, Towing Pkg, Auto-Dimming-Mirror/Compass & Homelink, Roof Rails, All-Weather Floor Matts. According to Edmunds, the invoice price for all of this should be $37,272. My problem is whether the Blind Spot Monitoring System is included in the Grand Turing model. Mazda's brochures claim this is a standard feature on the Grand Touring model (if not it is a $172 invoice price add-on -- of course the dealer will add it on for more than retail). Most dealers say there is an additional charge for the BSMS -- is this correct. Additionally, I can't find all the options I want. I come close, usually everything but the Auto-Dimming Mirror which the dealer wants an arm and a leg (more than retail) to install. Not one dealer has offered to order me the car with all options despite my telling them I can wait. Heck, by waiting maybe there will be a factory rebate offer. So far I have walked away from every dealer. With this high of a price I don't expect to pay one cent over invoice. I would love to find one at $500 to $1,000 under invoice but I have not been as fortunate as others. Anybody any suggestions?
Just picked it up last week 2008 CX9 Sport with Bose/ Moonroof/ ALl Weather Mats /Compass Package/ Power seats/ MSRP $ 33,895.00 Purchased the car for $30,500.00. (3395 off), but the kicker is they gave me $ 12,000 for my 2001 F150 with a KBB of about 9,000.00. Also the dealer beat Mazda's financing by .6%
Actually, two weeks ago, I found a CX-9 with EXACTLY what you want in Sacramento. I ask my dealer (in San Jose) to do a trade with the Mazda dealer there for free. He only wanted to do a trade for free with an Oakland dealer which had a CX-9 with fewer add-ons. I took it. The CX-9 in Sacramento may still be there. Go to Mazdausa.com and search dealer inventory. Enter Sacramento as city. Good luck.
For GT AWD, you are mostly getting $500-$600 below invoice in SF Bay Area. I would skip some of the simple add-ons for after market (such as Roof Rails, All-Weather Floor Mats). Auto-dimming is difficult to DIY because GT with rain-sensing wiper cover is very hard (nearly impossible) to disassemble perfectly w/o breaking something. Mine does not come with one, I have been doing research on it. So far, no action yet. I have purchase many add-ons and plan to do them this weekend. You can get add-ons at mazdaparts.org or mazdagear.com (both are selling at nearly invoice price). The former has free shipping (no tax if out of state) for order more than $100.
On Blind-spot monitoring... Every CX-9 produced for 2008 has it. The $200 is included as an option. You cannot find a 2008 CX-9 GT w/o BSM. So, in that sense it is standard option, but on the invoice, it shows as an option.
Where is a good place to get after market add ons (cross rails and floor mats)? I have never purchased these after market and would be interested in a few dependable sights. Thanks!
If you want the OEM accessories, mazdaparts.org (>$100 free shipping, maybe no tax depending on state) mazdagear.com Both places (both Toyota dealers) have about the same prices (both near invoice).
If you want the all-weather mats, I would say the weathertech.com is the best. But I have the Mazda one. They are less expensive and they fit very well with the railing system of the 2nd and 3rd rows (snap-under the rails and lock in).
The risk of "breaking something" is a real concern when installing stuff like roof-rack and auto-dimming mirrors. Be careful of the trim pieces of the roof-rack when trying to snapping them in. If you are not handy, ask for help from others.
I have a GT AWD and I have installed the following - roof-rack with cross bars - bug deflector - side molding (from sportwing.com) - mudflaps (front/rear) - all weather mat - cargo net - cargo area mat
My next plan is to install auto-dimming mirror, but I am researching the complexity. The dealer quoted me $477. With 15% off coupon, it costs $405. The parts together cost about $214 only. It is an easy money to make if I can figure out how to install it w/o breaking anything....(the one w/ rain-sensing is much tougher)
If you happen to have S-plan pricing, I was offered invoice minus $500 for a GT.
Without S-plan, I was initially given $1500 off MSRP without even asking for it. Reading other forums, people are getting invoice with a little haggling, slightly under invoice with a lot of haggling.
Thanks for the reply. I do have S-Plan pricing so I'll see what I can get. I plan to wait until the last week of the month to see if there's any dealers in our area willing to go lower since they may be near their monthly sales goal for bonus from the manufacturer.
Use caution when pulling your deal together with this dealer - what was negotiated on paper with the saleperson did not match what the sales manager actually put into the computer. I recommend to meet with the sales manager AND with the sales person before input into the computer and credit is pulled. This will ensure everyone is on the same page and there are no misunderstandings or confusion.
I am no expert when it comes to car buying but this site helped tremendoulsy in getting what I believe is the right deal. Hopefully this information can assist others as negotiate their deals.
Nice job on the negotiated price. One question, did you say you were able to get the power lift gate (auto close hatch) without getting the Nav system or did you forget to list the Nav system? Thanks
Thanks, I knew it had to be to good to be true; to be able to get the power lift gate as a stand alone option and not have to get the Nav system. Oh well, hope you enjoy your new ride!
AWD CX-9 Touring rear entertainment back-up camera towing package MSRP $37,300
24 mth lease residual 65% MF .00042 miles 10,500/yr zero down monthly payment including sales tax, NJ guzzler tax, $595 bank fee $468/mth out of pocket, $360 + 1st month
I want to share some knowledge with you all to "level your minds" when interpreting your deals against others it is called the "lease per dollar ratio (LPDR) ". The factor basically takes into account 5th grade division applied to graduate school economics. With all things being equal in your Down Payment. Here is how it is done:
LPDR = MSRP / lease payment per month.
The closer to 90 > the better. Use it to measure the total benefits gained vs. the total cost.
For instance I get a car for $30,000 and pay $350 a month my LPDR is 85.71. Which means for every dollar I pay is equal to $85 of the MSRP. You ultimately WANT to get more VALUE of the MSRP per dollar spent.
To "level" the down payment comparison in order to do the LPDR. add or subtract $27 per 1000 down (for a 36 month lease) from the variable being compared.
John's lease: MSRP - 30,000 Down - 2000 Per month - 350 LPDR = 85.71
Doug MSRP - 40,000 Down - 1000 Per month - 410 (add $27 to make down payment equal) = 437 LPDR = 91.51
Doug's lease is better as his benefits outweigh the cost of John. 1 dollar paid = $91 of the MSRP.
Got this deal from the dealer Touring AWD White/ Sand with Bose/ Moonroof - MSRP 35360 (Same as edmunds) - Invoice (according to dealers sheet) including the destination charge and NY assessment fee ($411) is $33,082 - Quoted: 31082 (2k off invoice, with 2.9% APR financing) If I dont want the 2.9% APR, then he is willing to go 3k off invoice (30,082). Is asking for a 295 processing fee besides the tax and title.
Any comments? If anyone wants, mail me for the dealer name and person name.
I am looking at the Cx-9 as a replacement for my 05 odyssey. I like the sporty handling and styling, good reviews, etc. Also looking at the usual challengers, Outllok/Acadia (which I hear are slugs to drive by comparison, but I like the extra interior space). 2 questions:
I can find about 70 CX-9s (all versions) within a reasonable radius (I'm in RI) and a grand total of ONE has the DVD player. Are these simply not being imported or do they get snapped up, or both? My 3 kids will have withdrawal if I don't get a dvd, and aftermarket solutions seem weak at best.
I am reading about the amazing deals people are getting: more than $1000 below invoice, along with reasonable residuals and money factors on leases. If this is such a great car, why the huge discounts? Did Mazda just import too many? Are they not selling well?
I must be one of those unlucky people. I bought a 2008 Grand Touring model, which the salesmen assured me had BSM. I told him I didn't see any "dots" on the mirrors. Again he assured me all 2008 GTs had BSM. The day after purchasing the vehicle I met with the service department to have the Home Link interior mirror installed and asked if he would check to see if this car has the BSM system. It didn't. I am asking that they install the system or take the car back. They said it is impossible to install and it was doubtful they could take it back. The car was bought 3 weeks ago with 190 miles on it. I have limited my driving the car to keep mileage below 300. Any suggestions as to what recourse I may have.
Not all 2008 models have BSM: it came in as a "mid-year" option. Mine was build in December or so, and has it. Check the build date on your car just to make sure.
As for Mazda dealers, many don't know much about the CX-9, so you might want to check with another dealer about the possibility of installing BSM. Else, take it up with Mazda customer service (not sure they can do anything...)
BSM became available after fall, 2007. Check the door sticker to see when yours was made. BSM became a "must-have" option on 2008 only recently. If you have "proof" of what your salesman promised you, if I were you, I will take it up to the BBB to complain. BSM could be turned off. Make sure that yours was not turned off. There is a BSM button (together with a couple of other buttons) near your left knee when sitting in driver seat. If not, your CX-9 definitely did not come with BSM.
Is that 2008 model? You got $3000 UNDER INVOICE? Unbelievable! Such a great deal. I doubt dealer made money out of your deal. I can believe it if that was for a 2007 left-over.
35360 MSRP 33082 Dealer Invoice ( Which includes 635 destination charge and 411 NY Assessment fee) 31082 Quoted 295 Document Fee Option of either a 2.9% APR OR a further 1000 rebate (This is coming from the manufacturer for the month of February)
So end of day, Edmunds Invoice = 30435 (Base for Touring) + 1514 (option Moon/ Bose) + 635 (Dest. Chg.) = 32584 Comparable Dealers Invoice = 33082 - 411 (NY Assess) = 32671 (97 more) Non Edmunds Dealer Fees: 411 + 295 = 706
Summary: Net Dealer Quote is "1207 below edmunds invoice" + TTL only (no BS fees) , with 2.9 % APR. If i dont want 2.9% APR, it would be 2207 below edmunds invoice.
BTW, another dealership bettered that by $200 since i posted. So am at "1407 below edmunds invoice" + TTL only (no dealer fees) , with 2.9 % APR.
I appreciate the thinking here, but it does not seem to take into account the term. A longer term reduces the payment therefore increases the LPDR, however without knowing the term the LPDR comparison is a mute point. unless of course you are saying that the ultimate deal is a very long one, and some point the ultimate depreciation of the vehicle will negate leasing vs ownership.
For the record, we signed for an 08 GT AWD + RCK, 1MC, & 2PA in Bay Area. We took a vehicle with a few miles on it and negotiated well under Invoice.
MSRP = $39,760, 10.5k mile PA, 3 years x $468.02. All cost rolled in, we paid first month only for drive off ($468).
Whilst this only equates to an LPDR of 84.9 and change, I am more than happy with the deal for 3 years.
I don't know if it is area-dependent, but your deal is very good compared to what we got SF Bay Area. Here, typically, $500-$700 below invoice. The local assessment fee is about $200 for SF-SanJose area.
LPDR takes into account the industry average of a 24-36 month lease (click on my name to see my previous posts on this topic). It is a comparison ratio of consumer demand that equals value. There are some things not considered in the dominant variable for sure such as miles per year and "throw ins" such as free oil changes etc...
I appreciate your thinking here as well Mav in refute however I assure you the ratio is real. You have incorrectly leveled your costs in comparison to the field as there are fixed costs at play such as money down. You have to equate 2500 down in order to get your ratio.
In your case another 2000 down = -54 per month.
Your sign and drive deal was a good one and your gut has done you well without applying a demand ratio.
I didn't get a detail quote, just the car price ($30,000 to $30,900) and out of door price ($32,200 to $33,200). These were quoted by 4 dealers in town, using edmunds internet price request.
There is no trade involved. Do I need to get a detail quote in order to compare the different quotes?

They are having the Backup camera installed at the dealer, since they can't find the car on my color with it in Texas.
Am I being offered a good deal? :confuse:
They have to drive the car 300 miles to get it here, since nobody in town has my color, is this usually OK? :confuse:
I have been looking to purchase a new vehicle to replace my '02 Honda Odyssey. I've looked at Cx-9, Highlander, Pilot, Sequoia, Arcadia. I love the room of the Sequoia but feel a little glutenous with the gas consumption etc. I have 3 kids ages 5-11 and a huge dog that goes everywhere with us. Anyway, I am getting way off topic. I am leaning toward the CX-9. I am looking at the GT AWD '08 model. I really don't care about the color although I do like the Crystal white pearl. For options I would want:
GT Assistance package Moonroof/Bose Roof rails (for the bubble/skis that I know we will need with this smaller car) All weather floor matts (for obvious reasons/messy dogs and kids) Cargo matt Auto dim compass homelink mirror Blind spot monitor (which is standard on late model '08's I think)
So what should this bad boy cost me? I live in MA. I will be buying in March/April, no hurry though. I will not be trading in my minivan.
You really need details, but with the information you have provided these deals look to be any where from $500 below to $500 above invoice, but that is before they hit you with all the extra fees.
You should be at least $1K under invoice and without any fees.
I think you can do much better. Take a look at the last 50 or so posts.
Are you saying that the "car price" of 28930 is being offered if you take 5.9% and that they would give you 2.9% if you agree to a car price of 32670?
According to the dealer, Mazda has a special going on that they will give me a cash back OR a special 2.9% rate. So I can choose the cash back and drive out price of $31,000 and secure my own finance (or dealer standard: 5.9%) OR I get the special rate of 2.9% but the drive out of $32,670.
Does it make sense?

LPDR = MSRP / lease payment per month.
The closer to 90 > the better. Use it to measure the total benefits gained vs. the total cost.
For instance I get a car for $30,000 and pay $350 a month my LPDR is 85.71. Which means for every dollar I pay is equal to $85 of the MSRP. You ultimately WANT to get more VALUE of the MSRP per dollar spent.
John's lease:
MSRP - 30,000
Down - 2000
Per month - 350
LPDR = 85.71
Doug
MSRP - 40,000
Down - 1000
Per month - 410 (add $27 to make down payment equal) = 437
LPDR = 91.51
Doug's lease is better as his benefits outweigh the cost of John. 1 dollar paid = $91 of the MSRP.
If John got Doug's deal/ratio he would have paid:
30,000 divided by his LPDR of $91.51 = $327 a month instead of $350
If Doug got John's deal he would have paid
40,000 divided by his LPDR of $85.71 = 470 instead of 437.
So now you can see how you can systematically compare your deal to the demand market.
Got this deal from the dealer

- MSRP 35360 (Same as edmunds)
- Invoice (according to dealers sheet) including the destination charge and NY assessment fee ($411) is $33,082

$706 in fees?
What is the NY assessment fee? Please ask them to explain it.
If it is not part of the TT&Ls charge to the state and local Gov't it is most likely just a extra profit for the dealer fee.
$295 is high for a processing fee.
With the 2.9% that would be $1300 off invoice.
Get rid of the extra fees.
