Congrats on the cx-7!! I don't even think you can get a base CRV or RAV4 for that $17k price and besides, the cx-7 looks waaaaaaay better!

Did you get a warranty with the cx?

    hi fishhop,
thanks! ;) we're still pretty smitten about the purchase. new $24k sticker cx-7 for 17k was pretty much a no-brainer. heck, i imagine i could take it up to carmax, and they'd offer me more than i paid! :P

funny you should mention the RAV and CRV, as we were looking hard at those... in addition to the mitsubishi outlander. you're spot-on about not being able to pick up ANY of those for under $20k! Plus, I agree about the looks of the cx-7 blowing away the other options.

I did go ahead and purchase the "total care" warranty. I bought the 10-year, 100K warranty, and paid $1300. I checked at a couple out-of-state dealers who sell these warranties online, and the lowest offer from them was $1300, so I think we did ok. I figured it was worth $130 / year to have pretty much everything covered for 10 years.

    lockloop,
I would recommend etrailer.com personally. I install Hidden Hitch for my CX9 w/o tow package. I only used it as bike rack anyway. Installation is very easy but you might need a second pair of hands to hold it up for you or use jack stand.

If you tow frequently (even if less than 2000lb), I would recommend you have the TSB (list in another thread as THROTTLE PROBLEM) fixed if the CX9 was produced BEFORE May 1, 2008. That TSB specific applies to carrying heavy load and climbing hills. Just for peace of mind. :)

    rob,
Rain Sensing is standard on GT, I believe.
Auto-dimming mirror is an accessory which is independent of rain sensing. The fact that the root (attaching point to the windshield) is located together with rain sensor makes it confusing.

I installed the Auto-dimming+Homelink+compass mirror myself. Parts+kit bought at mazdaparts.org ($0 shipping & handling). It comes with instructions.

    Thanks again.

From what I read in that forum, many complain about the wire showing and not looking factory. Any comments on this?
  • locklooplockloop Member Posts: 15
    ceric,

thanks for your help. I went to that site, it even has a video instruction on how to install the hidden hitch on a CX-9. The procedure seems very simple.

If anybody else know how to install the wire harness thing next to the hitch, please let me know.

    What dealer did you use?
  • cericceric Member Posts: 1,092
I thought about installing the wiring for towing, but I really don't use that. So, I gave up. I did found some T-connector wiring for CX9. Search the web (eBay, eTrailer.com, Amazon, etc.) I saw one with installation instruction. It did not seem that difficult, but you might need to take off the rear bumper and run the wires all the way to the front engine bay. Good luck.
  • cericceric Member Posts: 1,092
No wire showing. Some people used the wrong kit. Workers at the port also made mistakes too. They are humans. There are a couple steps that you need to be careful, and might be challenging, but it will be fun when all is done. That is why some enjoy DIY. Save $$$ and have fun. Even if you broke somethings (try not to), cover/fix it up and don't tell your wife. ;)

I suggest that we take these accessory questions to another thread. I will answer them as much as I could.
Let us not hijack this one ("buying experiences").

I got a lot of good information from posters here. Thanks.

I went to a Mazda dealer yesterday. I didn't intend to buy a car. I was just looking and feeling around.

I intended for a base Sport 2008 CX-9 with no option. But when I sit inside a grand touring, I was overwhelmed by how luxurious it felt for the interior.

What do you guys think about the interior difference between the Sports, Touring and Grand Touring?

The interior for the grand touring is amazing. Unfortunately, I was not able to try out the interior of a Sports model because the stupid salesman can't find one on the lot.

As impressive as the interior looked, I was not impressed with the exterior paint scheme.

The Black Cherry Mica looks like dark gray rather than purple as seen on Mazda's web site. The Copper Red Mica looks like a dull red rather than fiery orange red as seen on Mazda's web site.

My wife was very disappointed (this car is for her).

But later on, one of my friend told me to go back to the dealership to look one more time in a sunny day. He told me that some cars looks very different between a cloudy day and a sunny day.

I will let you know my experience when I go back.

The salesman told me that he would get me any color (exterior/interior) combination in any trim level and it would only take one day. I was a little surprised. I had been using mazdausa.com web site to look for inventory at each dealership.

I had always under the impression that each salesman can only sale their cars on their dealership lot. Clearly, that is not true. Do any of you know if there is a central Mazda depot in Houston that any salesman can get any CX-9 they want?

I also wonder if I would be able to get a good deal if the car is not from their lot?

I think its pretty common for dealerships to trade vehicles btwn one another, so the fact that they can get what you want does not surprise me.

Regarding a good deal, I would stay firm with whatever numbers you're expecting, whether it's in stock, or they trade for it. I suppose they can always say, "the discount only applies to vehicles in-stock". But I would call BS on that!

I also had 1 mfr (Subaru)/dealer tell me they could get any car for me, but it would cost an add'l $100 to get it to the dealer. This sounds a bit more realistic to me.

Regarding preference, I did not sit in the GT. Did not even look at them, as I was trying to get out for as little $$ as possible. I would hope (& expect) the GT to be nicer than the Sport... roughly $4000 nicer, to be exact! ;)

    Good luck with the decision!

What do you guys think about the interior difference between the Sports, Touring and Grand Touring?

The GT & Touring's interior are pretty similar - only real noticiable difference would the leather and gauge illumination. The Sport model comes with a cloth interior - IMO noticiable diff in feel.

Provided that one is available within a certain search radius

They can trade an existing inventory car with another dealership, provided the other dealership is willing to do a trade.

    lockloop,
Some dealers would charge you extra for having to get the vehicle from another dealer. Don't buy that story. My dealer wanted to charge me $500 for it. I said NO. He backed down to $0. However, it put 50 miles on the odometer since someone drove it for 50 miles to my dealer. Anyway, don't let the salesperson charge you extra for it. In the worst case, tell him/her that you will go to that dealer directly and bring your business there. You can get on MazdaUSA.com to search inventory of all dealers. The time lag is only about 1 day or 2. After I bought mine, I saw my vehicle (by VIN) disappeared from my dealer's online inventory the next day!

Again, thanks for all your replies.

    I have another question.

    sel0511, derrickson, and others,

Both of you got the Total Care MEPP 10 years/100k miles from Russell Smith. If I recall, derrickson got it for $1300 while sel0511 got it for $1450. But what are the deductibles for your plans? I went to the internet and see that prices are different for different deductibles.

    thanks,
  • fishhoppafishhoppa Member Posts: 30
The semi fire sale is about to begin in Norcal! Some dealers are offering 10k off loaded GT's and just saw an ad for a sport FWD - no options, for $22500, representing ~7.5k discount from an msrp of $30050.

Does anyone think it might be a possibility that discounts for loaded 08 GT's might edge upwards of $12 to $15k closer towards the end of the year? or will the dealers just let them sit in inventory?
  • nastacionastacio Member Posts: 370
As sad as it may be for such a refined and interesting vehicle, I can see $12K discounts towards the end of the year. Local dealers have not ordered 09' models. Some have stopped ordering loaded 08 GTs since May.

I don't like seeing businesses losing money, but $10K discount for loaded 08 GT's is just the norm right now.
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131

    hi lock,
to be honest, we did not discuss deductibles when i purchased it! that said, while i was doing some 'buyers remorse' after-the-fact pricing, i learned the $1350 price i paid has the $100 deductible. i think the same 10/100k with no deductible was around $1800-ish. whatever it was, i remember it was significant!

No. Some dealers still have a 2007 or two lying around. They will sit on a car for a long, long time before they go up to 12k, 15k is fantasy.

There are no more 2008s being made. If you want one that does not seem to be common, you may miss out. Then again, we haven't seen yet what the prices are going to be on the 2009s. Should be interesting.

Then again, we haven't seen yet what the prices are going to be on the 2009s. Should be interesting.

The pricing on the '09 CX-9's is already out there. Prices are up about 1.5% from the '08 model year. Discounts in this area on '08's are running about $6,000. I got a quote on an AWD 2008 CX-9 Sport with power seat option. $25,100. Very tempting!

    From MSN Autos:
The 2009 Mazda CX-9 receives updates including Bluetooth phone compatibility for CX-9 Sport, heated seats and outside mirrors for Sport with Power Seat Package and trip computer standard on all trim levels. The CX-9 Grand Touring now includes an auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink and SIRIUS satellite is included in the Moonroof BOSE Audio Package and Rear Seat Entertainment System Package.

I have been researching cx-9 grand touring & am particularly interested in GT front wheel drive with Navigation & Moon roof options. MSRP with the options is $38,450. I have visited a few local dealers and was trying to get it for <30K out of the door (30K is max). But no luck so far.
I went to another dealer today and told him what I was looking for & asked him if there are any promotions/incentives. The sales guy out right told me that there are no promotions for cx-9 (2008)?? May be he thought I'm dumb or he himself is dumb.
I'm a serious buyer and the sales guy did not look serious at all. He did not even ask my name or phone#. It seemed odd especially in this market as he has atleast 10-15 cx9's on the lot. But he told me that there could be some incentives in November. Could there be more incentives coming? If so, I can wait till november.
Any similar news from other dealerships??

In addition to what ryster said,
From what I read, for 2009, the Bluetooth on the GT has A2DP support, meaning you can stream your audio (dual channels L/R for stereo) to the stereo of your CX9 w/o going thru aux jack. The Touring and Sports has no A2DP.

Also possible new accessories for 2009,
stainless steel rear bumper guard (in place of the plastic on top of the bumper) - US
    side step tube - Canada

I have read the posts and it seems that 10K discount for loaded 08 GT's is what folks are getting.
I have two questions: The lowest quote i have received is
    2008 Mazda CX-9 FWD
    Grand Touring Model
    Blind Spot Monitoring System
    GT Assist Package
    Rear Seat Entertainment System
    With Bose Sound
Compass Auto Dimming Mirror with Homelink
    Tinted Windows
    Wheel Locks
    Copper Red Mica
    Sand Leather Seats
    Price $31,089

    1) I calculated the MSRP for the options above and it comes to $38415, this does not include the Wheel locks & Compass Auto Dimming Mirror with Homelink. Are they standard on the GT Touring or additional options? Does anybody know how much do these two options cost?
    2) Based on current market conditions, how much should be the ideal price for the vehicle above? Should it be $38415 less $10,000 plus cost for Wheel locks & Compass Auto Dimming Mirror with Homelink?
    3) What are the financing options made available by Mazda for October?
Will really appreciate any replies to my questions.
    Thanks in advance

On the 2009, the streaming bluetooth is part of the navigation package. It is not standard on any model and not available at all on the Sport. For $2300, I'm fine with using the plug than a potentially lossy bluetooth connection for my music.
  • nswartzbnswartzb Member Posts: 40
    1. you should not have to calculate the MSRP. use the window sticker, or get the vin# and look up the vehicle using the search inventory function at mazdausa.com. but w/the extra features (mirrow/lock, which are not standard) it should be 39,590MSRP. mirror is $240, locks $50.

    2. you should get $10k off 39590.

    3. financing is 0% for 60 months, but you'll have to give up $4000 -- run the numbers on the edmunds calculator, but it's probably better to take cash.

after waiting a few weeks, the dealer gave us a great deal on the demo car (our OTD price was >30% off MSRP). It had 7500 miles on it but was in excellent condition. THe TMV estimate if used was ~$8,000 over the actual price paid.

For all intense purposes you got a used car.

$10K off MSRP on a loaded (no mileage) CX-9 is a better deal, period.

I was quoted $26,900 for a new 2008 brilliant black CX-9 GT with wheel locks and blind spot monitor (List $34,255). Is this a good deal? should I push for more? seems to be only $7k discount when others speaking of $10k.

    Thanks in advance

I am jumping the gun here.

Just given a $30K offer online to a dealer in MA for a Stormy Blue CX-9 GT with wheel locks, GT assistance package (navi and camera), moon roof, and towing package. MSRP is listed at $40k. I wish it has blind spot monitor, but it doesn't.
The car has been "on sale" online for more than two weeks. I am actually not that crazy about the GT assist. package because of the not-too-great review about the navi (resolution) and the usefullness of the backup camera.
    Will see what happen.

If I don't get that, I will counter withanother offer -- $27K for another CX-9 GT minus the GT assist package but has the blind-spot monitor.

    Comments?

really don't mean to be smart here, but...... didn't you sorta answer your own question? :confuse: ;)
  • nastacionastacio Member Posts: 370
Your $30K offer is reasonable for an 08, not sure you can get that kind of discount on a 09. My hint is to go after the ones that have been in stock for more than 3 months.

Be on the lookout for the mileage, many of the loaded CX9 GT's have been sitting on the lot for several months. Our local dealer had two of them with nearly 6000 miles on the odo. If your dealer tries to blindside you all the way to the where you sign the odo statement, my hint is: let it slide and act surprised when the moment comes, it is yet another chance to threaten to walk away and another chance to get more discounts. If the dealer insists on it being all the same, let them spend all the time they need to make their case and then transfer the same offer to an equivalent unit without the mileage. It works all the time.

The navi resolution is great on mine, and it is super simple to use (I work with computers though.) It just guided us back and forth on a 100 mile stint to a remote farm. The backup camera is indeed useless, but I think it may be a matter of getting used to it after 20+ years of looking over my shoulder while backing up.

The BMS is almost a must in this car though. The rear-right corner is a liability if you have someone sitting on the right of the middle seat.

$27K would be an excellent price for your alternative, but bear in mind you are taking away $3K from the table for roughly $2.3K worth of options (2500 - 200) . Combined with the lower vehicle value, you are trying to go from a 25% discount to a 30% discount. At that point they may try and steer you towards a $25K Mazda5 GT. :-)
  • buzzlybuzzly Member Posts: 6
My offer of $30K for an "internet special" of a CX-9 fully loaded priced at $31,300 (MSRP @ 40k) was REJECTED. It is only $1,300 difference. The dealer told me that they would hold firm on the two "internet special" deals. So I don't even brother to give them a offer

Oh well, need 24 hours to think it over.
  • nastacionastacio Member Posts: 370
If you made the offer online, I say take your checkbook and drive over there. Stop by over the weekend, take note of the registration dates on all windshield stickers to get an idea of how many units have been sitting on the lot for how long.

If it is more than 5-6 months, chances are they will let it go for $30K. Sorry for the Mazda dealers reading this, it *is* a wonderful vehicle, but with 18mpg, high gas prices, a set of tires costing nearly $1K, and this economy, very few people are going for a near-luxury SUV.
  • buzzlybuzzly Member Posts: 6
    I agree.

CX-9 is a wonderful car. But with the gas price and the economy, this car moves up to the luxury category, at least for me. Also I think 20-25% off from a inflated MSRP at the last days of a model year is not unreasonable. Besides this dealer (and others around here in MA) consistantly has 18-19 of '08 models CX-9 in the lot, accordingly to the mazdausa inventory website. I think I have more time to wait than this dealer has.
  • billyk1billyk1 Member Posts: 16
On Long Island, my offer of 10k off msrp for a black cherry mica 08 GT AWD was rejected as well. Dealer came back with offer of 7k off msrp. I passed. He stated that Mazda's web site is inaccurate and there isn't nearly the number of 08 cx9s out there. He said there are 8 black cherry's in Pennsylvania, none in New York, and he might be able to get me one. Funny stuff. That's ok. As I told him, time is on my side. I'm sure he'll be e-mailing me again. And when he does, 10k might not be enough.
  • jay13jay13 Member Posts: 9
I have a dealer offering me S plan on a $40,845 CX-9 (2008). This drops $3100 off the price to $37,700. If I am buying, she says there is $5,000 of cash from Mazda which takes the car down to $32,700. Is this Mazda cash how everyone is getting these quotes of $7-10k off? I don't see it on the incentives page.

If I want zero percent for 5 years, the $5k goes away and the payment is $685 per month, which is $38,800 for the car before sales tax. What gives? Seems really high.

Oh, and a 39 month lease with 15,000 miles per year had, get this, a 44% residual value!!!! $564 a month for an '08? I don't think so.
  • locklooplockloop Member Posts: 15
Just to add to the common theme here, I am not getting close to $10k off MSRP that other Houston area members are getting.

The offers I am getting is between $3.5k to $8.4k off MSRP from the same dealers that were reported offering $10k off from other Houston area members.

I guess all Mazda dealers decided to hang tough.

Not exactly sure what are they thinking. The stock market is crashing. The housing is going down. The cars are just getting older as days go by. Do they honestly thinking that time is on their side?

Anyway, I am going to wait for November 11th. That is when the newest issue of Consumer Report annual reliability report will come out. If CX-9 is ranked below average, bye bye CX-9 and hello Highlander.
  • jay13jay13 Member Posts: 9
IMHO, the constituency that CR bases its ratings on is not representative. But you raise an interesting point. Does anyone have an extended warranty on their CX-9? If so, who dod you go through and how much was it.

My general opinion is that these are a scam, but just asking. I would have about 10,000 miles at the end of my lease where I'd be out of the bumper-to-bumper.

Hi lock... quick fyi, i was one of the ones who received $10k off offers on 08 cx-9's in houston, HOWEVER, that offer expired back on Labor Day weekend (end sep/beg oct). After that, those same dealers changed their promo to $9k off. they claimed it was due to a 'change in incentives'.

I stopped pricing the cx-9 after that, and switched to the cx-7, which i ended up getting for only $17k ($7k off msrp).

I hear ya (and agree) about the highlander. i shopped those pretty hard as well. i just wasn't willing to fork over the extra several thousand they were asking (aka Toyota premium) compared to the zoom-zoom mobiles...

i went ahead & bought the 10yr/100k "total care" ext warranty when i purchased mine. for the cx-7, the cost was $1300, and that's with a $100 deductible. think they had the $0 deductible for $1800-ish. the 'total care' is the closest all-inclusive warranty they offer.

fyi, i believe there's a separate forum to discuss mazda warranty info...

People keep asking how do I get $10K off.

Some earlier posts explain this but I summarize again below:

    1. Dealers should start by dropping from MSRP to "invoice" that will take about $2500 off a Sport, $3000 off a Touring, and $3500 off a Grand Touring. (You can find the invoice price on Edmunds).

    2. Dealers should then take off another $4000-$4500 in dealer cash back. YOU CAN'T GET THIS AND 0% FINANCING. It's an either or, and usually you'll be better off taking the cash back -- unless you're own financing is wway high. You can use the Edmunds calculator to decide which is better for you.

    3. SOME DEALERS will give you up to another $2000 off. This is based on whether they meet sales goals and get incentives back from Mazda for meeting those goals. NOT ALL DEALERS WILL MEET THESE GOALS, SO NOT ALL DEALERS WILL BE OFFERING THE XTRA $2000 -- ALSO, THEY MAY TRY TO KEEP SOME OF THE MONEY FOR THEMSELVES (MY DEALERS SAID "OH THE BONUS WE GET IS AROUND $250 PER CAR". DEALERS ARE MORE LIKELY TO GIVE YO THIS AT THE END OF THE MONTH WHEN THE KNOW OR THIK THEY WIL MEET THEIR GOALS.

    So,
    for a Sport -- $2500 + $4500 + $2000 = $9000 (w/o bonus $7000)
    for a Touring -- $3000 + $4500 + $2000 = $9500 (w/o bonus $7500)
    for a Grand Touring -- $3500 +$4500 + $2000 = $10000 (w/o bonus $8000)

Hope this helps -- as always the specific options of the car may make a dealer give more or less depending on whether they think it will sell sooner or later.

In your opinion what should be a good deal for those of us who also have S-plan pricing?

I have one dealer in LA that will to go from 34K(MSRP) to 25.5K on a 2008 FWD CX-9 with moonroof but i have told him i i want the 8.5K off the s-plan price of 31.4K for a price of 22.9K.

    Is that reasonable?
