If I've posted this in the wrong forum, please re-direct where I may do so.

Our lease on a 2019 Niro EV ends next month, and are seeking advice on how to proceed. It has 18,641 miles on it and ordinarily we would either extend the lease to weigh options or purchase the vehicle if doing so makes financial sense. However in the last two weeks the car suffered some damage to the right front fender after hitting a dislodged mud flap on Interstate 5. We have an open insurance claim, but have not had it repaired as yet.

I estimate the equity to be at least $3,000 over residual value based on offers from dealers in the last 6 months and some preliminary research with Kelley Blue Book.

This might be entirely without merit, but I'm thinking we can return the vehicle without repairing it, take the hit in the form of lowered equity value, and get in to a 2023 Niro EV. Is that possible?

You could, but then you'd never get your money back for the insurance claim, and you have no way of knowing the hit you'll be taking from the bank for returning the car damaged.

Get another offer, and see how much they hit you for.

No, we don't have access to any state level incentives. The $5000 is from Kia Motors Finance

Thank you for your consummate help. Is there another forum where buyers have posted their actual purchase prices or completed lease deals? I'm running numbers in a spreadsheet and am wondering what dealers have been charging for the Corporate Activity Tax in lease deals...?

I just came across this helpful information after today's update from Plug In America:

The gist of it is more manufacturers are jumping in on passing through the $7,500 lease incentives that can't be offered for buyers due to the new restrictions:

$5,644 on 22 Ford Escape PHEV
$5,255 on 22/23 Kia Niro PHEV
$7500 on 23 Kia Sorento PHEV
$6,179 on 22/23 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
$4,480 on 22 Toyota Prius Prime
$6,689 on 22/23 Toyota RAV4 Prime

Also Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Polestar, BMW and Subaru...

Today in the course of pricing email traffic with a dealer I question what a $529 Added Equipment cost is for. He responds with:

"The $529 Blink charger is an accessory for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. It's a Level 2 home charging station that provides faster and more efficient charging compared to a standard wall outlet. This charger will help you get the most out of your electric vehicle by reducing charging time and maximizing the benefits of owning an eco-friendly car. Unfortunately we don’t have the option (to remove it), they are billed to everyone of our EVs from the manufacturer."

What a load of bunk. Has any one suffered the amateur-hour attempt at swindling this so obviously reeks of?
