Question: My current 30 month lease expired. My payment was $377. I can extend the lease but Mazda Financial (Toyota) wants to ADD SALES TAX on the current payment bringing it to ~409 (Tax rate in my county is 0.8625%)

When CHASE was the finance company anytime I extended a lease (up to 6 months) the payment STAYED THE SAME - there was no additional tax charged.

Is it Proper or legitimate for Mazda Financial to charge me additional sales tax on my existing payment?

I am considering extending my current Mazda Lease held with Mazda Financial (Toyota). They said to extend lease (at 3 month intervals) I need to provide a REASON which would then be reviewed and an extension agreement would be made. (On previous Mazda leases finance was done through CHASE and you could extend no questions asked)

1. What is a REASON that they would find acceptable?

My reason to extend are that current new lease pricing is still higher than I would like and with possibly lower interest rates in next 3-6 months perhaps the lease prices will come down.

New lease money factor for model/trim/miles of new vehicle is 0.00120 which is 2.88%
2. Would the FEDERAL RESERVE lowering interest rates 0.5% have impact on the MONEY FACTOR in a lease?

1) No idea, but tell them you are thinking of leasing another Mazda, but not ready to make that decision.

2) No. Generally, interest rate direction will eventually affect lease rates (generally), but it's never in a linear fashion, and never immediately

On the original lease, did you pay the sales tax up front, rather than roll it into the lease payment?

If so, then yes, it makes sense for the bank to assess sales tax on the payment extension.

What is your location? NY?

You paid the sales tax for your lease term upfront in NY. Even if you opted to roll that amount into the CAP cost, it was paid upfront. When you extend your lease, no tax has been paid for that new portion. It makes sense that they'd collect again.
