    Thank you very much. Of course I do much more research after the fact to confirm that I got somewhat screwed. Reverse engineering the lease the best I could on LH, the residual is 62% (this is also clear on the lease itself) but for the rest of the numbers to add up, the MF is 0.00206 (4.94% APR with Tier 1 credit). I think from what I read here the maximum that Chase would've allowed them to increase it to is 0.00216, so I guess that is something.

    Deal terms:

    2024 Forester Limited
    MSRP: $37,785
    Selling price: $36,075 (4.53% off MSRP)
    36/12
    Technically $4,000 down, but $3,802 to reduce cap cost because $198 went to Etch
    One other add on, $239.25 for key replacement, also ended up in the lease
    NJ = 6.625% sales tax

    $466 monthly payments

    LH calculator gives me a 5.8 years score which actually doesn't seem that bad for Subarus given deals posted there. I've read that Subarus aren't the greatest value to lease, especially the higher trims - not sure if that bears out here. A couple other lease value calculators split - LeaseGuide's gave it a "good" rating and RealCarTips' gave it a "bad" rating. So who knows; I probably shouldn't focus too much on such things.

    Any comments from the brain trust here are welcome and appreciated. I hardly do any lease negotiations in the first place (this was on behalf of a parent; I buy used) and I walked out of there giving myself a "not bad, I think we didn't get shafted" rating. Admittedly was not aiming high and because the parent was renting a car, I needed to get a deal done ASAP because the rental costs were going to start eating into any additional savings I might have haggled. The dealer also included 6 oil changes and tire rotations with valet service to/from so that's not a bad ~$700-800 value around here.

    I'm no expert but generally speaking you don't want to put money down on a lease. If the car is totaled that money is gone. If you take that $4k split into 36 months that's an extra $111 monthly, so the lease payment would've jumped to $577 - seems very high, even for a limited. For what it's worth I recently got quoted as low as $439 on a premium (msrp around $33k) with zero down, taxes and fees rolled into monthly, in Nassau County NY.

    @Brick_City one more thing, I believe the allowable MF mark-up is 0.0005, so 0.00256 for your deal. And if you didn't explicitly negotiated the MF mark-up then they most certainly took their full allowance.

    I walked away from that $439 offer by the way. I have to think there's more wiggle room (hoping to get it down to low $400s).
