I got the scoop on my son-in-laws truck. He stopped at my house while I was outside.

The one with 400 miles on it was a 2024 XLT. The one he has now is a 2025 XLT. They are both F-250's.
The 2024 was a crew cab (the big back doors) with a 6.5" bed and the 2025 is a super cab (the little back doors) and an 8" bed.

He said the 2025 stickered for almost $10,000 more than the 2024. He got the 2025 with no money changing hands.

I don't get it either. Just reporting the facts as I hear them.

Weird. But if I was getting a beast like that would absolutely want more space in the bed instead of the back seat for the same overall length.

Just an update on my Kia Optima sale from last week. As you may recall, the buyer and I met Saturday at my bank to have the title notarized. The buyer would then transfer in her name when her county clerks office opened... sometime this week, which turned out to be today. I know this is not the recommended way to transfer a title, but this young lady buyer seemed legit.

Anyhow, the buyer just contacted me saying she could not transfer the title, that the bank teller had me fill out the wrong section of the title. At the time I thought it should have been on the top section of the back of title, but teller said it was the middle section. So, I'm suppose to meet tomorrow morning at County Clerk to transfer the title. Future transactions of Jipster's Private Party car sales will be at county clerks office only.

When I used to handle real estate closings, I absolutely hated it if there was a mobile home title involved because there are so many different places to sign for different purposes. I photocopied one and made a "cheat sheet" of which sections needed to be filled out for a normal transfer.

My F-150 is trying to figure stuff out.
Did first fillup the other day. It has a 36 gallon tank.
After MPG read as 16.0, 510 miles DTE was zero and I put in 31.9 gallons after 510 miles.
Have just under 30 miles on next tank MPG reads as 17.5 and DTE reads out as 622.

It might not be resetting when you fill-up. I think it’s probably extrapolating just the last 20 miles (or some other distance) of fuel efficiency for the rest of the tank. No matter what your average is since the fill-up.

I'd concur with that. I think my Outback does the same thing when I fill the tank.

I haven't driven enough to check the odometer accuracy.
My Explorer under measures miles by 2 1/2 percent.

Some cars zero out the DTE when you get below a certain fuel level, or otherwise have a reserve, but my Maverick doesn't, so far as I've been able to tell. I think the Tundra had a 38 gallon tank and eight of it was in reserve, so when you had zero range left, there was still (supposedly) eight gallons in the tank.

I’ll never have the tank get low enough to tell! Plus I’ve read the maverick hybrid can potentially hold more than the rated capacity since it’s the same tank as the economist just with a bladder.

The Acura I think is a couple of gallons pessimistic. I had to fill up to get home from Boston and did it with about 100 miles of range left and 25mpg average. And it took about 7 gals (maybe 6.5) less than capacity. So based on the it has 2.5-3 gals of reserve built into the DTE

Those DTE gauges can be strange. I’ve driven vehicles that started out with 100 miles range, driven 50 miles and had 150 miles range when i arrived.

Had an unexpected surprise
Last night. Became a grandpa. 5 weeks before we expected to. Thankfully baby girl is in good shape. Has to be in the NICU at least for a few days but seems to be nothing concerning. And mom is fine.

5 pounds 10 ounces, so not tiny.

That’s outstanding GRAMPS. Becoming a grandfather is, at times, more exciting than becoming a parent. No diapers, no 3:00 AM feedings, no pediatricians, etc. because now you get to spoil them with no regrets, visit them while the sun is still shining, and you continue to get a full night’s sleep.

This was all quite unexpected. I found out at about 10:30 that they were staying at the hospital so had to drive down to their house to retrieve the dog and bring him here since they have left him home assuming mom would get checked out and sent back home. Oops.

Not quite the same but when we sold our park model trailer and used the proceeds to buy our shore house the bank really had issues with where the money came from.

Took me several emails, statements, etc to get it through.

Not sure why it was such a problem. I had copies of two certified checks from the buyer, a lien release from the bank and a signed title.

Congrats @stickguy, the fun is just starting. I know you’ve heard it before but they grow up fast even faster than your own kids.

I have 5, the youngest is a girl that got her permit several months ago. I don’t know how that’s possible because I could have sworn she was born just a couple months ago !!

Just got a phone call from my oldest grandson (24 years old) about his forthcoming trip with the love of his life to visit me. He’s flying American Airlines out of Ontario California with a change of planes in DFW (Dallas/Ft. Worth) and then a flight into FLL (Ft. Lauderdale). Supposed to get back to me with exact dates and times for the first part of May. I’m taking care of their airfare and whatever else they need.

I forgot that you need to be 25 years old to rent a car at FLL, so I am going to put my upright walker in my condo and free up the back seat so I can seat passengers. Then I’ll let him use my car if they want to go anywhere.

I haven’t seen him in over 4 years and I’ve never met his girlfriend. We talk and text each other frequently but California is a long ways away from South Florida. Besides, I can’t fly any more due to my back.

I have a feeling this trip is being used to provide me and my daughter (she lives up in Port St. Lucie) with an opportunity to meet the love ❤️ of his life. I can’t wait to see them.

I would think the connections to FLL would be crappy on American. I don't think they fly direct to FLL from DFW.

They have 6-7 flights a day / DFW to FLL / FLL to DFW.

I just went online and found 7 flights from DFW to FLL on 4/30/2025.

went down to the hospital tonight to see the happy (and completely exhausted and shell shocked) new parents. And got to see the baby briefly in the NICU. she will probably need to be in there for a week (hopefully not more). But she is in very good shape for 34 weeks and improving quickly. So hopefully being there is just a formality.

Can't wait until they can take her home and start trying to settle into a normal routine (as normal as possible with an early term newborn, or any baby for that matter!)

Our first grandkid was pretty much full term but Daughter had late term Preeclampsia, he was only 4 lbs 2 oz when born, emergency C section. Could have lost both of them during birth.
At 5 1/2 he's still skinny(my genes) and not as tall as the other kids his age.
His 3 year old brother weighs just as much, if not a little more than him.
Mentally, he's way ahead of just about all the other kids.
Emotionally, he drive me nuts. HA HA.

Like me, my son will get married later in life so I'm not expecting a grandchild anytime soon. It's a family tradition.

My BIL and his wife did the same thing only their daughter was in Florida. They got lucky.

Why would a bank care where the money came from unless it was a brown bag filled with cash?

Money laundering is a big thing with financial institutions and can be done many ways.

It occurs in industries and businesses people don't give a second thought about. In South Florida it's cell phone stores, in the NYC metro area it's delis and precious metals dealers. It cannot always be prevented, but financial institutions are under tremendous pressure to have robust internal controls and detective measures in place.

It also helps to have good systems in place. Read about a situation where Citi credited $7B (yes, billion) into a customer account accidently and it took them 90 minutes to spot and reverse the error.

Yep, then read about what happens to those that don't. TD Bank, USAA, Wells Fargo (still!), Bank of America, etc. We have an internal working group that I am part of that assesses enforcement actions to gauge whether we have exposure to any of the citations, whether we need to enhance controls, etc.
