It's been a minute or a minute and a half since we've talked appliances.
Guess we are getting a new refrigerator delivered next Monday. Wife finally got tired of the noises the original one to the house was making (GE, 9 years).
A Frigidare is coming - side by side on top, then a small pull out drawer that can be set for cold or freezer duties, and a pull out freezer at the bottom.
Ice and water dispenser in the door.
Felt like the entire house was measured to ensure it can be delivered and installed.
Fun times.
@stickguy - close, but the MSRP was a tad bit higher. I just looked at the Monroney, and the bottom line MSRP was a tick over $38K. I know I got a bit of a discount from that.
And, from the "Really?" file, I've got a situation very similar to those BMW folks who have to "register" new parts. I bought a new printer last fall, and installed the cartridges that were shipped with it. I am on the HP Print subscription, where I pay a flat monthly fee for x number of pages, and the new cartridges are shipped automatically.
Turns out the cartridges from my old HP printer fit the new printer, but guess what? I can't print because they weren't registered to the new printer. Since I don't print all that much, it's not a big deal, but I've got to get it resolved. On top of that, I sent the starter cartridges back to HP to be recycled, so they aren't in my possession anymore. Gonna have to give them a call and see what can be done.
sounds like the Frigidaire profile fridge we got. They may have a few different levels in the same config. Only regret is we went with counter depth so it does not hold as much. Hence the need for a FS (18 CF) one out in the garage!
printer cartridges sounds odd. Not all that surprised if you pulled used ones out of the old printer they might not work (though it is a really silly concept) but new ones out of the package certainly should. I had a problem with a printer (not sure if it is our current one or the prior) where I was using aftermarket (probably reman) cartridges since they were much cheaper. Worked fine until I made the mistake of doing a firmware upgrade. After that, printer would not work with anything but OEM. Not sure what I did with the large supply of ones I had that no longer worked!
when this printer goes I am getting a laser instead. I can live without color.

HP makes it so your new printer won't work when you set it up. You phone the 1-800 number and they ask if they can go on your computer and set up the printer. In our case they did a complete cleanup so the computer works faster, and they got the printer going. And then they sold me a program where they will fix your computer for and all HP products for about $500 for 3 years. I refused but they kept offering discounts if i was a senior and it worked out to $100 a year I think. It was worth it because they help us about 6 times a year.......but the printer not working is a way for them to sell you on a maintenance program...beware!
@qbrozen Thanks for the vinyl wrap recommendation! I was able to install it today on the back of my office door... and it works just as I had intended. Sadly, I didn't actually have the correct tools to install it, so it looks absolutely horrific, but hopefully I can fix it up in a few weeks and get it looking presentable.
After this, though, I don't think I'll ever try to wrap something as complicated as a car!
———————————————— I imagine wrapping a football or a basketball should be fun too.

I didn't have any problems getting the printer to work, right out of the box. When my print jobs stopped printing, I had to dig deep to uncover the root cause of the problem.
The cartridges I put into the printer were brand new, not recycled from the old printer. Pulled the wrapping off each of them.

when this printer goes I am getting a laser instead. I can live without color.
I’ve had a laser printer for the past 10 years. Bought it from HP and it was $299 on sale from $399. Cartridges are a bit steep - $69-$89 a piece, depending on sale. So because the laser printer is 10 years old, I bought 2 cartridges a year ago since they might discontinue them. I print very seldom, but one of the main reasons I use laser instead of inkjet printers is the number of copies each cartridge can print - 1500-2000.
Just recently bought a new HP tower because my 12 year old tower died. The new one uses my older monitor, audio (stereo w/woofer) and the old printer. They are not wireless but get the job done.

I've been there about a dozen times, but not in the last 15 years. It's old school fancy Asian dining. They are still going strong. Their food is really good.

As someone who lives alone, my refrigeration needs are few. About 18 months ago my old fridge became intolerable after about 15 years of service and I decided to replace it. Unfortunately the pre-renovation space for a fridge was just under 30" in size so my options were limited. I ended up with a 28" wide Frigidaire which is simple but looks handsome and works well. Now that my renos are done the space for one is larger, up to 32", I may replace the old Frigidaire but that is no sure thing just yet. I think I may ride the existing one for a bit.
Speaking of printers, I have a Canon all-in-one inkjet which I got for a song. It works fine with one exception. If you unplug it or more likely if the power goes out, when that returns and you go to use it I swear it takes 5 minutes for it to do some sort of reset with all sorts of gyrations and sounds. Once it finally goes through all that it works quickly until the next time the power fails.

The business bought her a MacBook Air that will be delivered tomorrow.

Met Mike Wong several times. My late Father owned a Poultry Plant (read, slaughter house). His specialty was high quality poultry items for the restaurant industry in the area. Oriental Wok was a regular customer.
Mike was a super nice guy, as was his entire family.

I have a Canon all in one that's 8 or so years old from Microcenter. It was under a $100, far under. Only quirk was it did NOT come with a starter cartridge even though the box indicated it should have had one inside. LOL
Ink cartridges are relatively cheap at Walmart and still available. I buy new ones after trying a refilled from Office Depot early on.
My experience with a laser at the same time I bought the Canon was that the cartridges are fused and when they print the allowed number of sheets, a switch is burned turning it off. Even if toner remains, can't print beyond that. I used to buy refilled cartridges for my laser printer when I had my Macintosh computer. I liked having the ability to print a high quality sheet with the laser or I could print with the inkjet printer.
No more HP printers for me after they started the subscription nonsense. Reminds me of Office 365 from Microsoft. Don't even get me started on my experiences with the Epson printer. Never again. Just like when I said I'd never buy another Ford in 1977, I quit Epson.

It's going. Trying to stay positive about the whole thing - some days that's easy, some days not so much.
Our printer recently stopped working for no discernible reason, and we asked ourselves, do we really need a printer? So far the answer is no. I get tired of the random hangups and reboots they all go through.

Years ago, we had an Epson 3 in 1 that stopped working for seemingly no reason. Did some looking on the internet and found there was a button sequence to reactivate it. They were designed to stop printing after specified number of pages. Tried the sequence and it worked. It was replaced sometime later with a similar HP. My printing is mostly window stickers when I looking for a new vehicle.

That is the problem with Epson’s. After my first firmware update it would no longer accept generic cartridges. The Epson branded ones work well but cost approximately $75.
I use cheapie Amazon cartridges in my HP without issue. Is this something with the newer printers? Mine is about 6 years old
———————————————— I’ve been using the 123 Refills brand for years with no problem. However, when I install them in my 5 year old HP all in one inkjet, I get a pop up that non-HP cartridges have been installed but when I click on continue everything works fine just like the previous HP job I had.
Before I got the HP I have now I thought the cartridges I put in from 123 Refills were bad and when I called them about it they thought it was my printer but they sent me replacements just to satisfy my complaint. It turned out they were right. When I realized it was in fact my printer (I can’t remember how old it was but it was getting up there) I got the one I have now. I wanted to get one that took the same cartridges as my old bad one but HP discontinued making any models that still took those cartridges.
FWIW, I don’t agree to any online updates so they can’t play around with it. It will work wirelessly but I have it hard wired and never had a problem.

sounds like the Frigidaire profile fridge we got.
Even color laser printers are a huge savings over the inkjets. Costco has a nice HP unit that is somewhere around $300-400 out the door, and a full set of cartridges are about $125... but they last for many, many thousands of prints. I think it took my family about three years to even use up the starter cartridges that came in it from Costco, and my children do homeschool!

@oldfarmer50 - carvana must be getting desparate. They sent me a $1400 bump on my 10 year old Outback ($12,800 now)
I’m tempted, only $5k depreciation for 10 years use.
How much do you think I paid for it new?
I was talking about me. I bought the Mustang for $31k and change in 2015 and Carvana offered $27,200. So I guess that’s less than $5k. What did you pay for your Subaru?

A Frigidare is coming - side by side on top, then a small pull out drawer that can be set for cold or freezer duties, and a pull out freezer at the bottom.
Ice and water dispenser in the door.

I would return the printer for one that doesn’t hold you hostage.

At the risk of beating a dead horse there’s always the rental car gig. Easiest job I ever had. Also, you have experience running a business with the cooking school, have you ever considered going independent and starting your own driving school? I assume you have all the credentials required from your current job.

some things need to be. My weekly Sunday crossword puzzle. Boarding passes. And copies of my tax forms. Plus the occasional recipe or other miscellaneous document.
Boarding passes are on my phone. Recipes are stored in an app. You can scan a lot of stuff and keep it in your photos. Nowadays very few items need to be in a paper format. If I need to print anything, very rarely, I’ll head over to FedEx. I don’t even remember the last time we had to do that. One more way to simplify my life.
I like printed recipes when I cook because doing them on the phone is a hassle. and I will always have a paper boarding pass, and I prefer having it when I get there so no need to stop at a kiosk.
The insurance company I just left was still using paper files. In 2025. All emails had to be printed and put in the basket to be filed. If an email came in without a claim number, you had to write the claim number on the printout because the file clerk didn't know how to look it up.

I didn't have any problems getting the printer to work, right out of the box. When my print jobs stopped printing, I had to dig deep to uncover the root cause of the problem.
The cartridges I put into the printer were brand new, not recycled from the old printer. Pulled the wrapping off each of them.

Yes, the cartridges I put into the printer were also shipped from HP, as part of my subscription with my old printer.

I felt the same way, but since we use their $100 a year help-line 5 or 6 times a year it has actually worked for us. I wasn't going to buy HP again, but I have had great service from them, and 5 or 6 help line fixes a year for $100 has worked out better than paying $50 an hour for a remote fix....and i call and they are there ready to help.
I was at Staples tonight so browsed the printer selection. They had 2 aisles of them. Must have been 2 dozen models or more. So somebody is buying them! I saw a Canon with the "megatank" color injet. Actually looked nice. Claim that the included bottles of ink should last 2 years and be good for 6,000 B&W and 7,000 color copies. That should cover me until long after I am dead. Given the absurd cost of cartridges sounds like a much better option (and from what I saw replacement bottles are no more expensive than snap in cartridges).
One of my retirement projects is thinning out my collection of hundreds (my wife claims thousands) of car magazines. I found this in the April 2018 issue of Car and Driver and I think it also explains why I love my C43 so much.

That, I cannot answer. At least 6 months old, if not older. The test page printed just fine when I installed them, however.

There's a chip HP puts into their cartridges that communicate with the printer. I've called and chatted with HP several times about what sort of "communication" the chip enables. I've always received some sort of "gobble de [non-permissible content removed]" answers that never made any sense. Came to the conclusion those chips allow enable the printer to work only with HP cartridges.
Solution? remove the chip and put it into 3rd party cartridges. It's actually pretty simple and you save a bunch of money by not having to buy HP cartridges. Been doing that for years. 3rd party cartridge makers show how to do it.
This is for laser printers. Not sure about inkjets.
Had an Epson Inkjet prior to the HP. Yeah, the ink lasts a long time but the print quality is dismal and they are a mess to deal with. Plus, the ink replacement is limited to EPSON's ink.
some things need to be. My weekly Sunday crossword puzzle. Boarding passes. And copies of my tax forms. Plus the occasional recipe or other miscellaneous document.
I'll add warranties I print on paper to store in the boxes of my ever increasing bevy of tech and audio equipment. You register on line. But, it never seems to fail that my warranty information "could not be found". Yeah....well buddy, here's a paper copy of it. Problem solved.
Something a lot of people overlook is what happens when you die. Someone has to pick up your estate and deal with it. In the old days fairly simple with a paper trail. Now, if everything is paperless, if the executor does not have access (or even know where anything is stored) it might as well not exist. Heck, just finding a lot of your own stuff (medical records, important financial stuff) can be difficult online especially if a vendor goes away.
At minimum you need a printed list of all the important contacts and sources (and login credentials). And if you don’t have access to the deceased cell phone (for multi factor) still might not be able to access what you need.
Went to the dentist this morning. When he popped into the room before asking about my teeth he asked if it was my Maverick outside and how I liked it. The man has his priorities straight!

They were designed to stop printing after specified number of pages. Tried the sequence and it worked.
It was replaced sometime later with a similar HP.

That is the problem with Epson’s. After my first firmware update it would no longer accept generic cartridges. The Epson branded ones work well but cost approximately $75.
I’ve been using the 123 Refills brand for years with no problem.

At the risk of beating a dead horse there’s always the rental car gig. Easiest job I ever had. Also, you have experience running a business with the cooking school, have you ever considered going independent and starting your own driving school? I assume you have all the credentials required from your current job.

Solution? remove the chip and put it into 3rd party cartridges.
