They were nice. Wyler, as mentioned before, kept wanting to grind it out. Matter of fact, I told them I already signed papers and they kept texting wanted to know if I took delivery yet because they would like me to come back in. They texted me again. this a.m.

Just realized, it's end of quarter. So, the pressure is on for them.

I made them my one offer. Told them I was only making one offer. Didn't matter. They kept wanting to play the "if we can get you to XXXXXX, will you buy today?".

While I was at the selling dealer, I also test drove an EV9. THAT'S a BIG vehicle. If I had a family, I would have considered it. Just for grins, they said they could make a deal on the EV9 ($70-ish?) for $50-$75 more/mo.

For good or ill, they also have an Alfa Romeo store attached to them. They had this in their showroom...

My experience with getting a lawn to grow from seed is, you can water, water and water for week and barely see any growth. Then you’ll get an overnight rain and wham, you’ll see the lawn you were looking for.

That’s why when we built our house in SC in 1992 I had sod put in. I got more than a couple handfuls of comments from nearby neighbors and folks walking by. In my case it cost about 20% more to get a better grade of sod compared to seeding which I thoug

I'm a fan of the old-school approach to lawn seeding. I shape the space, spread the seed with a hand-spreader, go through with a couple bales of straw and just sprinkle the straw across the seeded surface, then gently water it in well and apply water every other day for ten days. At that point, the grass is sprouted and, within a couple of weeks, is ready for the first mow. No need to ever pick up the straw as it'll mulch with the mowing(s) and time.

I do that plus I add a thin layer of bagged topsoil to cover the seed maybe 1/8 inch at most.

A funny story about using a triple mix of a fescue that I'd never used. When it came up, there were all these large, round starter stalks. I called the company and asked for help. One question the person had was what did I put over the seedbed: wheat straw. I had gotten a bale of straw with lots of wheat seed in it. I had a crop of wheat growing among the thin strands of new grass, overshadowing the grass starting. I mowed it when they hit a couple inches and that killed back the wheat.

I looked at the asparagas stalks in bundles above the bin of green beans I was getting. The Kroger sale tag said "Home grown in Michigan." The labels on the bundles of asparagas said "Product of Peru." Hmmm.
Kroger wouldn't lie, would they?

You're 75 miles, an hour and a half North of me, I'm in Sun City/Ruskin.
I have heard of Hernando Beach but usually they use the Spring Hill name....say on traffic or weather reports.
We are in a mostly residential area, not a tourist area, but our neighbours say they like it when the Snowbirds return too....it is too quiet and empty when we aren't there.
It's good to know I help liven up the place

The Pacifica hybrid has a range of 520 miles. At work we do 600 miles in a day with two or three coffee breaks, a half dozen bathroom breaks and lunch.

Since Asparagus is a spring crop I’d go with Peru. Maybe the homegrown sign was referring to the beans.

I plant grass every fall. I can get it to grow without rain, but the rain, for some reason, makes it flourish. Must be there is no chemicals.

spend a chunk of time experimenting today with different configurations. and got really tired of dragging hoses around. But seemed to have managed to get most all the ground wet to some degree. I have no expectations that it will get done thoroughly or consistently. So hoping for the best, and yes, my usual plan is let the rain do the work. Unfortunately, they seeded the day after the last rain in the forecast for 10 days or so. Not supposed to be any chance until about next Wednesday. Completely screwing me over.

but I will drag the sprinklers around until the first decent rain. By then, hopefully some germinating should have happened (they said 5 days or so to see it start) and at that point I will let nature take over.

If I was doing it, I would probably have gone old school with seed and a spreader and rake it under then fertilize on top. Might not be as quick as hydroseed, but IMO comes in better and less sensitive to initial watering. I would have also priced sod, though I think these days that is brutally expensive and more sensitive to getting watered. The fertilizer guy estimated about 10,000 SF of lawn under seed. Could get pricey in sod (online estimates were quite varied but seemed like $2/SF installed was bare minimum.

hopefully in a few week I see actual grass to keep the dirt in place. And if we do get a few rain days middle of next week, could be perfect time to really set the grassing growing into high gear.

The mother of three brothers I've been friends with since the 1960s died and she had specifically asked that the boys who hung around her house when her sons were young should be the pallbearers- so I was asked and I accepted. Two of the guys had owned SS396 Chevelles (one kept his and is restoring it) while the other brother had a 1969 SS350 Camaro and later a 1978 Z28. It's sobering to think we are all in our mid to late sixties, but time inexorably marches on.
One funny aside; I drove the C43 and one of the funeral directors was staging the cars in the funeral procession. He directed me to a parking spot and when I got out he said, "Boy, that sure doesn't sound like a Mercedes." And I even had the exhaust set to quiet mode in light of the circumstances...

Yeah....some of their styling cues and feel of the switchgear has a definite "Audi-esque-ness" to them.

A lot of similarity between the KIA EV and Sportage interiors. I’m curious, does the EV6 still have a start/stop button? It looked like it from your pictures. The Blazer did away with it, a la Tesla. I’m so used to it now that I have to remember to turn off the Kia when I’m driving that car.

It does have a start/stop button.

I really liked the feature of no "start button" of the Equinox EV. I think it makes no sense in an EV.

I know there was a way for the Chevy EVs to turn off when you got out of the car, but I didn't dig far enough into the settings to set it. There was an "off" icon on the big screen, though.

That said, it took me a minute to remember to turn off my Accord because there was no sound or vibration reminding me it was still on. Now, I'm used to it.

The instant torque and lack of traditional transmission is a different (and welcome) addition and something I'm getting used to. Also, to be that fast and that quiet at the same time is a different driving experience.

EV6 seats are really comfortable. When I test drove the EV9, I liked those seats, too.

I am not sure how far away you are from me, but our forecasts sound pretty much identical. We've had extremely high humidity all this week, which is supposed to continue, and the morning dew is HEAVY... it's gotta count nearly as much as rain.

So, I was out early this morning because I received a message from my son last night. He said that he bought a parts car from a Copart auction, and it was supposed to show up at my house (he's not even here!) early next week. Except.... the shipper contacted him last night and said he would be here at 0900 this morning.

Well, I go downstairs at a few minutes after six to see this sitting out front:




Apparently, the shipper arrived at about midnight and just hit the sack with the truck parked like that! Thankfully, we have a weird spot in the road there; it sorta looks like it may have been a culdesac at some point in the distant past, and then the road was extended off one side of it, so there was probably enough room for cars to access driveways or travel on the main road, but it sure got some looks when people did drive by!

Anyhow, my wife wasn't thrilled with this sitting there until 0900, so I waited until 0710 to call him (and woke him up for sure!), after which we set to work.

Just picked up a level 2 charger from a house that was being demolished. My neighbor, who is a big TESLA guy (has a Model X and a new Model 3) installed his own charger. Says he can help me do mine.

On the surface, doesn't look that difficult. I called my power company (Duke). They actually sent out a guy to see if I my electrical can handle the additional load...for FREE! Nice surprise. It will.

Going to run a line from my breaker box through the walls into my garage. Where it's mounted (the shortest path) means I'll have to back into the garage, but no biggie. Figure it will take a couple of hours this afternoon....barring any nasty surprises.

Re: turning off the Blazer/Equinox. Once you put it in Park and get out of your seat, it turns itself off.
If you wanted to keep the car on for some reason — like fiddling with controls — you just stay in your seat. That’s when the off icon appears on the screen. I really like that system.

Guys, I had more questions than answers on this whole fiasco, too! All I know at this point is that I have a good-running, immobile car that my wife really, really doesn't want to have in her driveway. LOL

My son is flying into PIT tomorrow afternoon, so we're driving down to pick him up and should have him home (here) by 8pm. He can come inside when the car is gone.

I think what he really wants is the six-speed manual transmission and rear differential for his Forester. I blame myself for putting that idea into his head! He has ideas of selling off the other good parts (lots of them, excluding body panels and seats, which are a little not so wonderful after sitting in the weather for the better part of a year, I'd guess), but I don't know that he has the time since he flies home on the 28th.

I think he was thinking that we would haul the tranny home with us in the Crosstrek, but I don't think that is practical because we are extremely limited on weight. I mean, we don't have much space either, but we traveled pretty light this time in terms of the quantity of stuff, but it all added up to a pretty good load:

We have someone nearby (0.4 miles) that has decided to leave a 15 foot skeleton up, all year round. Just bad neighbors.

And done.....interestingly enough, the charger is the same model that GM sells for its EVs. Getting a real education about Level 2 chargers. It was obviously used, but it works. And, it charges the EV6.

Installation was easier than I thought.

-install new breaker in breaker box
-connect (impossibly heavy and stiff) wiring
-Run wiring through the wall one story into the garage (it was a straight shot)
-Mount 220 plug to wall and connect wiring
-Hang battery terminal and connect to plug

Would have preferred to run it to the front of the garage, so I don't have to back in. But, that was a much longer wire run through more 2x4s.

Total out of pocket?

-$75 for the used charger
-$30 for wiring, breaker and receptacle
-6 pack of Bud Light

So, that was me. I'm the old guy with the silly hat. The driver wanted to drive the car off, but it just wasn't happening, so we went back with my method: Tether the car to my wife's car and pull the trailer out from under it. The right ramp slipped off as the front wheels were coming down, and it looked like it fell a bit in the video, but it felt smooth inside the car. I wouldn't have noticed if the driver had not seen it in his mirror.

As far as the method goes, though, I'd rate it 9/10; would recommend!

If you are in Ohio with the parts car how is it getting back to Alaska? Or is your Son down there?

Guys, I had more questions than answers on this whole fiasco, too! All I know at this point is that I have a good-running, immobile car that my wife really, really doesn't want to have in her driveway. LOL

My son is flying into PIT tomorrow afternoon, so we're driving down to pick him up and should have him home (here) by 8pm. He can come inside when the car is gone.

I think what he really wants is the six-speed manual transmission and rear differential for his Forester. I blame myself for putting that idea into his head! He has ideas of selling off the other good parts (lots of them, excluding body panels and seats, which are a little not so wonderful after sitting in the weather for the better part of a year, I'd guess), but I don't know that he has the time since he flies home on the 28th.

I think he was thinking that we would haul the tranny home with us in the Crosstrek, but I don't think that is practical because we are extremely limited on weight. I mean, we don't have much space either, but we traveled pretty light this time in terms of the quantity of stuff, but it all added up to a pretty good load:

What you need is another tow-along. If you kill your Crosstrek doing that, use the engine/tranny your son was going to swap out.
