Supposedly we are in the middle of a blizzard but only have about 3 or 4 inches of snow on the ground. It is cold, 19 degrees and windy, but not a lot of snow. Supposed to get 10 or 12 inches but I doubt it.

Right after I posted the above it really started to snow. Looks like we will end up with about 14 in. Temp won't get above freezing all next week with lows -4s and -5s, etc. Wife says she will just kill me outright if she ever sees me pick up a snow shovel again, so I'll have to call the man. I don't even get to play in the snow any more. She is probably right as I am diabetic, have mild heart failure, and just turned 82.

At your age I would have thought you’d know better than to yap before the last flake hit the ground. I don’t know about the others in here but I’m disappointed in you. :'(

FWIW, I haven’t broken out the snowblower for a few years because my driveway is flat, very flat for around here. So, I just let the Subie plow through it and pack it down. In a few days it melts. It took me awhile to wise up but like they say, “better late than never”. Maybe wisdom comes with age. You otta try it. :D

Mrs. venture would never let that happen. She shovels a few times during snowfalls. I tell her to wait until it's deep enough to get the snowblower out. She can't wait.

I learned a long time ago that power equipment has more HP than I do. A snowblower…a good bit more. Using the car to plow through it…infinitely more HP than me.

Today, I wished I had a snowblower. About 8" on the ground so far, and more still coming. The damage to the power grid seems to be not as bad as feared, so far, although what's coming down right now is sleet. No idea how accurate the data on this site is, but it's interesting to observe:

it is going to be cold her for the next week, but then again, it always is now! just a flurry today. Don't think there is anything big forecast until potentially next Saturday. But we have been getting a dusting seemingly every day for weeks now. Will take that over what y'all are getting in the midwest.

We got about 6 inches of snow over a couple of days, so I shoveled it over several trips outside.
My hands got cold after about half an hour, need better gloves, but wasn't close to being tired after an hour.
Pretty happy about that, considering I'm going to be 70 in just over a year.
Snowblower is ready to go other than not being started yet.

I spend a lot of time (wonder why?) thinking about retirement, and reading articles/watching videos. one of the themes the "watch out for retirement!" fear mongers trot out is losing your identity/structure/etc. that going to work gives you.

But I think that is much different when you are permanently remote worker, and don't go into an office and have co-workers (or clients) that you interface with daily in person. I can see going from that to getting up and kicking around the house could be a big change and take some getting used to. But going from WFH to retired just means you don't have to wander into your home office and spend the day in front of your computer slogging away on work stuff, with inane conference calls mixed in.

instead, you can spend the day in front of your computer (if that is still what you want to do) slogging away on sites like this, or watching videos on YouTube! Unless you want to do something else instead.

all that really changes is who you spend time conversing with electronically.

That “fear mongering” is probably what happens when you don’t have a life out side of work. I had no problem when I hung up my retirement shingle. I don’t think you will either as long as you keep paying your Edmunds dues.

I always find it interesting when areas much to the south of me get such snow events. Currently we have just a coating of snow that came in during a squall on Thursday and some areas missed even that. I’m sure we’ll get ours before too long but until then I feel your pain.😢

When I retired at 65 I had to wait 6 months before going back to work due to social security restrictions and as I recall it wasn’t that bad. Of course I was still running the farm on a limited basis so I still had a reason to get out of bed. I think having some sort of project or goal to occupy your time is important for both your physical and mental health.

Vermont is known for snow, but it has wide valleys and mountains. The snow can miss the valleys and hit the mountains. Here in the Champlain Valley we have maybe about 1/2" of snow. But less than +/- 45 miles away the higher elevations at Jay peak and Mt. Mansfield got 3' the other day. Skiers are happy!

8.6" yesterday in Cincinnati. A record for Jan 5th. 4" more expected today.

Louisville got 9". A record for January! And, the 12th snowiest single day on record! I don't have their local news, so that might have been updated.

I think this is a real thing for a lot of people. I retired 8 years ago, after 30 years with the same company. I didn't really have any issues, but for a couple years, I did identify with who I worked for..

But, now? nada.. The only concerns I have is the company stock price, from when we had an ESPP. :o

A couple of days ago the Charlotte area was forecast to get snow today. We haven't had anything but a dusting of snow in the past several years. The forecast changed. The snow is north of us and it will rain most of the morning.

The company we're being acquired by has an ESPP, but I think they only offer a 5% discount on the stock price. You still get the lower of the two prices at the beginning or end of the purchase window, so it's probably still worth doing.

We were getting groceries today and one of these went by. Can anyone explain the reason for buying something that looks like this? It has so many elements of bad design I don't know where to begin....but small windows might be a start. Is it because someone wants a car that looks macho, or is it to be obnoxious, does it say, "I don't care what you think", or is it a car for techies, or people who hate cars......

Sorry if it offends someone, but tastes vary, just want to know what goes through someone's mind who would buy one.
We had one guy at tennis and when someone showed up in a new car, he'd say, "How come you bought such an ugly car?".

Hey it's better looking than the Aztec.

I'm not so sure about that, especially if the Aztek is a single color.
And I'm a recovering GM addict in the 10-step program.
I still have a plan to buy up every Aztek I can find and sit on them until they become quirky classics worth big money.🤪🤪🤪

Nope, been retired about 17 years. Loved my job, and love my retirement even more. I have been playing golf since the summer after I graduated from H.S. so 65 years or so. Fun trying to master something that really can't be mastered. Three holes in one over the years and shot my age first time at age 72, countless times since then. Made many very good friends over the years.
My dad retired at 55 and played golf for the next 15 years - he worked at the course as a marshal, so most of his golf was free. Had two regular foursomes - one on Monday mornings, the other on Wednesday mornings. He was also the handicap chairman for the men's club.

We're supposed to get 8" to 12" by the time it's done tomorrow. Single digit temperatures most of this week, as well..

That cold air is going to hit Tampa soon too. &5 tomorrow but only in the mid 50s for a few days. The people around here are in panic mode. :D
I noticed that. When it gets into the 40s in Florida the ski parkas come out.😂
I was spending Christmas in Orlando a few years back and they had the TV on and gave a cold weather waning they said "Get your winter coats out as it's going to get cold out there" I heard that and I started to pay attentions seeing that normally in northern Illinois as when they say that they mean it. However they went on "It's going to get down to the low 60's tomorrow". So the next day the wife and I were out walking in shorts and shirts among people wearing heavy winter coats.

It's an easy time of year to spot the tourists around here! Cold snap coming later today, and everyone apart from visitors from up north will be bundled up for the next week or so.

During the 70s, 1970s not 70s F., I visited my older sister in Boca Raton. She took
me to the coral sand beach and explained all the older women wearing jackets with
fur in some cases as typical when temps went below 75 or so.

When I say the Aztek wasn't as terrible as painted out to be, I refer to the single color models where
the cladding doesn't show up as a contrasting Accent.

I'm shoveling my 25' driveway 10 minutes at a time. 5 inches or so with a couple more possible during today's storm. The media terrified everyone predicting possible feet of snow.
To the south of Dayton, folks did get more snow.

The hill on southbound I71/I75 in Northern KY was blocked by semis not able to climb the hill.
That's in @kyfdx country. I saw picture but couldn't capture it when I went back.

That hill has been there, so I'm not sure why it wasn't salted, sanded, congo-line plowed.

Food for thought. Good in snow?
