Putting aside tradition, and range/recharging fears (a reasonable consideration) functionally EVs seem to offer a lot of benefits. No gas being one, but they are quiet and smooth usually, great for stop and go around town type driving, and have tons of torque and most are obscenely fast. All things which are big pluses for most drivers.

The Motormouth couple in Vancouver recently bought a 3 or 4 y-o Chevy Bolt for their newly licensed son to drive to school or work, not sure. Even with depreciation supposedly being steep on EVs, they still paid about $30K in worthless Canadian dollars. That seems a lot for an electric econobox.
